Trouble downloading Mavericks

I started the Mavericks download. It said it would take between 10 to 13 hours. I left it to download. When I came back a few hours later, the screen was grey with no cursor and I got no response to anything. What's going on? Is this normal?

I'm not on dial-up. I have DSL through AT&T. However, I am between two small towns and even though the AT&T hub is only 1 1/2 miles from my house, they say I can't upgrade to anything faster. I finally decided to just turn the computer off with the power button on back. After at least 45 minutes I turned it back on. Still a locked up grey screen. What is my next step?

We should start by actually identifying your Mac,
Open Spotlight and type (without the quotes) "System Information" when it opens look for the model identifier (usually second line down) post it here.

  • Unable to download Mavericks from my list of purchases (current OSX: 10.8.5)

    Hi,
I'm currently working on OSX 10.8.5, and am having trouble downloading Mavericks from the AppStore.
I've previously installed Mavericks using my own Apple ID on another Mac some weeks ago.
When I open the App Store and go to 'Purchases', I can see Mavericks in the list of available apps. However, when I try to download, I get the message 'You have updates available for other accounts' claiming that I have to 'Sign in to (AppleID) to update applications for that account.'.
The Apple ID in question belongs to a friend of mine. I can't be sure, but he may have installed Mountain Lion on this Mac at some point. However, even when he logs in to the App Store (using Store -> Sign Out / Sign In) and tries to download Mavericks, he gets exactly the same dialog message, preventing the download from starting.
Crytpically, the dialog message still shows the same AppleID, even though that's the currently signed-in account.
I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment. I've tried varying combinations of signing in / out of the App Store (as well as quitting and re-launching it, in case that was the issue). I'm not really sure what to do at the moment. As it stands, I'm stuck with 10.8.5 with no possibility of installing the update.

I would use the Mac that already has Mavericks installed and resownload the installer. Then either make a bootable Mavericks installer on a thumb drive or just transfer the installer to the other Mac.

Apple doesn't create installation disks for OSX 10.7 and later. You can create your own disk/USB bootable installer, but this requires downloading the installation package from the app store first.
    1) Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Try directly connecting via ethernet port, versus Wifi, if you are experiencing a weak Wifi Signal or intermediate loss of connectivity
    2) From the App Store, go to the Menu Bar, Store > Sign out.
    3) Navigate to the /Applications folder and drag the partially completed download of the installer to the trash.
    4) Open the App store, sign back in, and redownload Mavericks.

  • Having trouble downloading OS X Mavericks

Having trouble downloading OS X Mavericks

I've followed several similar comments over the last few days.  Mavericks is a large file and depending on where you live and the speed of your line, you will have problems downloading at this time of the year, when the entire planet is on meltdown and with many people locked into their computer screens.  Even when the first editions of Mavericks was launched, it was slow then and I've got a 76Mb Fibre Optic connection. I think right now, the world and his uncle are downloading large files so my advice to you is frankly, get up in the early hours of the morning when the line traffic is greatly minimised.  It's worth waiting for if you don't wish to screw up your computer.  Good luck!

  • I had big trouble yesterday downloading Mavericks

I had big trouble yesterday downloading Mavericks to a Mid 2012 15" MacBookPro.  Ended up a no-start mode upon auto restart and eventually had to revert to "Command R" restart and reinstall Mountain Lion.  Anybody else have this problem on Day One?

    See:
You can use "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.

  • I am having trouble installing.  downloaded Mavericks but it will not let me install to hard drive, says that is reserved for Time Machine.  I have an external hard drive, but disconnected that before download.

I downloaded Mavericks but can't get past the install; it thinks my hard drive is reserved for Time Machine.  I have an external hard drive but dis-connected that before download.
I have Time Machine turned off.

Check to see if you have a file name Backups.backupdb on the disk drive.
If the installer sees such a file it assumes that the disk drive is being used by Time Machine.

  • Scanner trouble after mavericks download

just downloaded mavericks and now my scanner won't scan.  it's a konica-minolta magicolor 1690-mf.  any thoughts?

I have a similar problem with my CanoScan 9950F.  About this Mac can see the scanner, but system preferences Imaage Capture and CanoScan Toolbox 4.9 dosen't.  I've rebooted, changed Firewire cables and finally sent a message to Cannor help.
This seems to be a multiplatform problem.
    Any thoughts?

  • Having trouble downloading adobe update on safari

I am having trouble downloading adobe update on safari on my desktop, running maverick, and and older macbook running snow leopard

Probably Flash. If so, get the DMG installer here.

Don't think this is what you mean, but after downloading it must be installed--with all browsers closed.

  • I can't download mavericks to late 2011 macbook pro???

im having trouble downloading os x 10.9.1 - can anyone tell me why please?

    What instructions?????
In the Mac App Store there is an icon for Mavericks, in both the standard store and in the updates area. Just Click on it and the download should start, that is after you type in your Apple ID and password for that Apple ID.
Depending on your internet speed and how your Mac is connnecting to your router, WiFi or Ethernet, the download can take from 20 minutes to several hours, it is a 5+ GB download.
Going to need more info on what exactly happen when you click on this link.

  • Can't download Maverick from app store

I am having troubles downlaoding Maverick for the App Store. I click "Free Upgrade" then "Install App" and up by the forward and back buttions the spinning wheel moves, but nothing happens after that. I am running 10.7.5 on a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro.

    I'd try:
Restart and delete any partially downloaded bits of the installer that are in your applications folder. Then try the download again.
If that doesn't work, I'd restart in safe mode (restart and hold down shift until you see the Apple symbol), and try again.

  • Has anyone else lost all information listed on "Notes" after downloading Mavericks!!?

Much trouble since downloading Mavericks. Some programs not running at all. All my Notes have disappeared. Any help with retrieving them, anyone?

I was running Mountain Lion...I have cameras in my home, and the App iVMS-4200 won't let me access my cameras anymore and unfortunately, iVMS does not have anything compatible with Mavericks at this time. I believe the Notes are gone since I did not have them backed up. Lesson learned: do not download anything from Apple until you back everything up.
