Trouble Running Built Applications in OS X

Hello,
I am running Labview 8.2 on OS X and I am having trouble with the
LabVIEW run-time engine. The application I built runs fine on the
machine it was built on, but when I copy the application over to a
different computer it does not work. I'm a little unclear on how the
run-time engine is supposed to work. When I double click on the .app
file, the LabVIEW 8.2 spash screen appears followed by a "Select a File
to Open" dialog box. I'm not sure what file I'm supposed to select, but
I assumed it was the .app file. However when I selected this file it
gave an error message saying that it was not a valid LabVIEW file.
I upgraded to 8.5 and got the run-time engine for 8.5 and the same thing happens.
Am I missing something? Is there any documentation for the run-time
engine? Most of the stuff I've found seems to only apply to Windows.
Thank you,
Mike

I'm not sure that I am building the app correctly. I made an extremely
simple, one VI project and compiled that, but it also said that was an
invalid LabVIEW file.
I'm a little unsure about your reply André. The
compiled program is a .app, so there aren't any VIs. There are four
files that are created by the build: program.app, program.aliases, a
preferences file and a preferences.bak file. When I double click the
program.app file, it shows the LabVIEW spashscreen, then asks me to
select a file. If I select the program.app in this file select dialog,
it says that it is an invalid LabVIEW file.
Thanks for your reply,
Mike

when I try to run my built application, but it will run fine as a vi. I am using the Report Generation Toolkit with the Excel functions. I am opening an Excel template, adding data, and then printing. When I run the built application it looks like Excel is not opening up, but when I run the vi, I can see excel open and the report is sent out to the printer. I am running both the built application and the vi on the same computer.

    Hello,
I found a similar problem some month ago. I solved including in the application the excel vi's library, that you will find in the labview directory addons.
I hope this info will help you!

This is using a cRIO 9074 running CompactRIO recommended software set  14.0.1 .
These errors happen right at startup. Memory use is steady in interactive mode, about 20 MB contiguous memory is unallocated out of 128 MB. I have taken pains to prevent allocation and follow cRIO besta practices non concatenated strings array building in loops etc). CPU is 50-60% when running interactive mode.
Really at my whit's end here, I have tried the various combination of enabling / disabling debugging in the RTEXE, disconnecting typedefs etc. I have not noticed a pattern.

    Hello MarkCG,
What minor changes did you make to the serial communication code? Posting the VI or a screenshot of the VI with the modifications which caused the RTEXE to stop functioning could be useful to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Error when trying to run an application that worked when built with 8.6

I have a simple program that I wrote in version 8.6 that I never had a problem building and running applications built with it in 8.6.  Two weeks ago I got 2009 in the mail because we had very recently purchased 8.6 and I am getting errors when trying to run an application built with the same code using 2009.  The error has to do with the Mean.vi.  It claims it cannot find it.  The error I get reads as follows:
An error occurred loading VI 'NI_AALBase.lvlib:Mean.vi'.  LabVIEW load error code 3: Could not load front panel.  I don't need access to this vi's front panel, so I am wondering if it is a problem with the runtime engine and not my code.  Please respond as soon as possible as this will quickly start to impact my testing schedule.  Thank You.

    Hi!
    The same problem ???
I discussed it with my local NI technical support team. The application works without any problems now.
Basic rule: when creating an installer be sure that option "Run Time Engine xxxx"  in "Additional Installers" category is checked in spite of the fact that Run Time Engine is already installed.
    Best regards.

  • Trouble Forcing an Application to Run

I have a bit of a problem I'm having trouble solving. I'm trying to force an application (McAfee Total Protection's silent installer) to run at startup. So I created an application object and associated it with a test machine, also checking "Force Run." The test machine will not run the installer at startup, however it will run if I execute the object from the Application Explorer window.
I've experimented with the force run order, even though I don't have any additional applications I'm trying to install on this box. I also turned on the Reporting feature and checked the log file. Each time I log in, I can see an entry made in the log file as if some kind of attempt is made to run it. McAfee Total Protection also keeps a log of every install attempt, whether it's successful or not and I don't see any entries there.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Glad to hear that helped.
If you don't have that box checked, the instll will try to run Prior to User
logon which could act quite differently depending on the software.

  • I am running Mountain Lion and have trouble installing Adobe Application Manager

I am running Mountain Lion and have trouble installing Adobe Application Manager

    Hi,
Do you receive any specific error message when Adobe application manager is being installed?
    Thanks

  • An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running the application again

I Have erased the hard drive of my MBP in order to perform a clean reinstall of OS X Mavericks, according to these instructions.
When I tried to reinstall, my internet connection stopped (was broadcasting via another MBP and the cable from that one got disconnected), so I restarted the erased MBP to try again. Holding command+R, it booted in internet recovery (as the recovery partition was erased along with the rest of the hard drive), but could not connect over the broadcasted WiFi, so I created a bootable USB flash drive according to these instructions on the other MBP.
This installation went smooth without any hiccups, but due to an oversight I had to do it again the next day.
I took the same steps, with the same bootable drive (I did not create a new one the first time) but this time I couldn’t get through the prepare to install phase. At the end, where the “about a second remaining” message stays for about 20 minutes, I get the “An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running the application again” message. When I quit the installer (only option at that stage) and return to Disk Utility, the internal drive on which I tried to do the installation is not visible anymore.
I tried this (after a reboot every time) with a new bootable usb drive with the same download of the OS X Mavericks installer and with a new one, each ending with the same error. The installer was downloaded on an MBP on which Mavericks is also installed, with the same Apple ID. The App Store did not allow me to change Apple ID for the Mavericks download. Can this pose a problem? It did work the first time, though.
Note that this error occurs at a different stage than the one with the same message due to the wrong date (this discussion amongst others). I also checked the date in terminal and this appears to be correct, when I consider the timezone.
Here are a few lines from the installer log (omitted similar lines and lines that could contain personal information). The most important line is the last one, indicating the error.

    Jun 22 02:45:55 localhost Install OS X Mavericks[423]: Got error in writing to /Volumes/schijf/OS X Install Data/minstallconfig.xml
That last line indicates the error that occurred. (The internal drive on which I try to install Mavericks is called “schijf”, it also already has been called Macintosh HD, with no effect. This time I tried another name during the reformat to see if and when the installer renames the disk. Does it do this, or should I call the disk “Macintosh HD” myself?)
By now I also got past the internet recovery issues, being able to get the progress bar under the spinning globe and the option to install Lion (not Mavericks, but I suppose that’s because the MBP shipped with Lion). When I choose this option, the installer first spends a few hours downloading additional components. This eventually took less time than first indicated, but still about 4-5 hours. After this, the installation of about 24 minutes starts, but this takes much longer than the indicated 24 minutes, each minute taking about 15 minutes. When it was less than a minute, the internet connection got disconnected (but I don’t suppose it still needed an internet connection at this stage, having downloaded all additional components) and now the “Less than a minute” message has been there the whole night (about 9,5 hours), the last 9 hours with a spinning beachball on the screen after I accidentally clicked somewhere on the screen (nowhere in particular, he shouldn’t do something because of the click. After unplugging the power adapter, the battery icon on the screen wasn’t updated, and the WiFi icon simply disappeared, instead of showing no bars like it should when there’s no connection).
Does Anyone know how I can fix the error, because I would prefer installing with a bootable drive. Is it worth it to continue waiting on the current, apparently stuck Lion installer to finish or should I force a reboot?
Can I try using the Recovery Disk assistant (OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0) to create a recovery disk with the other MBP? I think not, as this might cause trouble with 2 different MBP's using the same license.
    Thanks in advance!

Since this thread seems to be gaining more speed than the other one i'm working on, i figured i'd add these images to help you all out detailing the exact problem.
I'm having the same issue and I wanted to provide some info specific to my mac, and some info in general to help with diganosis.
    First, my specs
Secondly, I am running an aftermarket 500 GB drive.
Third, not sure if this is realated, but this screen suggests the proress will take 3 minutes, then it abruptly umps to the restart phase after about 1.5 - 2.5 minutes.
And finally, here is the seeminly unavoidable error message.
Also, other things I've tried now are
installing it from the "show package contents area",
mounting said DMG and trying to install from there.
installing a package file called "upgradeos.pkg"
    no luck.

  • Xcontrol does not work in built application

I can't seem to get my custom xcontrol to work in the final built application.  It works perfectly fine when the top-level .vi is started from the development environment.  But all I get is the broken control image when I run the built application.  Is there something I'm missing in the build definition?
I tried puting the thermometer xcontrol example into a built application and everything works fine.  The build definition only included the top-level file, so I don't think it's a problem with support/dynamic files...
By the way, is there some trick to maintaining these xcontrols?  I love the concept, but man they are a pain in the butt to work with.  One wrong move in the project manager and they're messed up for life.  I finally learned to back everything up on a regular basis so I wouldn't lose everything if it one decided to go psycho on me.
    TIA,
    Greg

I've got it working now, but I'm going about it in a round-about way.  My application has (had) a splash-screen/launcher vi that dynamically loads and launches the actual top-level user-interface vi.  The top-level vi was included in the build definition as a dynamic file.  This is the ONLY dynamic call in the entire application.  All other vi are called the normal way on the wiring diagram.  I could never get the xcontrol to work this way.  I even tried including ALL of the relevant files as dynamic/support file and could never get it to work.  In one experiment, I placed an xcontrol on the top-level vi (the top-level vi doesn't have any of the xcontrols, only a couple dialog-box sub-vis that it calls).  Again, everything worked fine from the development environment.  But, when compiled, the top-level vi would fail to start completely.  I never bothered to check what the execution state of the top-level vi was before I called it, but I assume it was "bad" so the dynamic call would fail.
I got it working by eliminating the dynamic call and calling the top-level vi as a normal sub-vi from the wiring diagram.  BUT, it still had problems and would always ask me to find a couple files from the 'XControlSupport.lvlib', specifically 'Action.ctl' and 'Container State.ctl'.  The xcontrol also uses the standard 'eventkey.ctl' from the 'event_ctls.llb' and it would ask me to find this file every time as well.  I tried including the libraries in the project and including these libraries in the build as dynamic/support files, but still no good.  To fix the problem, I copied these files into my project folder, specifically included them in my project, and then replaced all of the controls wherever they appeared with the corresponding controls included within the project.

    Hi Timo,
I was using the wrong version of the tutorial. It works fine by following the example from the correct version. The version of the tutorial used is http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/learnmore/fod1111-407812.html.
    Thanks.

  • Optimizing built application performance in LV 2012 (and earlier)

There's a new help topic in the LabVIEW 2012 help called Optimizing Execution Speed for Built Applications.  If you're interested in the runtime performance of your built applications (EXEs, DLLs, etc.), I'd recommend taking a look.
Most of the steps apply to earlier versions of LabVIEW as well - just ignore the steps that mention the "compiler optimization threshold".

If the application is running on a standalone computer with no access to the internet, then the aplication may be taking a really long time to load. This is because Windows is trying to check the applicaton's signature over the internet when there is no internet connection.

  • How to run Java application involving DOM3 in a command shell?

    Dear all,
I am currently in a testing phase on my Java implementation (in JBuilder 2005) utilizing DOM3(built 2 .jar files from Ant via CVS thanks to dmbdmb). It seems working properly. To experiment its capability of handling big size files, it is essential to do a bit testing by running the application in a command shell (got 'OutOfMemoryError: Java heap size' when run it in JBuilder), something like:
Java -Xmx256m MainHowever it gives out another error of
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.w3c.dom.Node.setUserData(Ljava/lang/String;
Ljava/lang/Object;Lorg/w3c/dom/UserDataHandler;)Ljava/lang/Object;All fine in JBuilder because I configured its 'required libraries' and added up the 2 DOM3 .jar files. Now how should I do to make them working in a command line? I already added the paths of these 2 .jar files to CLASSPATH and also tried to put a copy of them under the same directory as 'Main'. Unfortunately the 'NoSuchMethodError' is not going away...
    Thanks to any help

I managed to include these 2 DOM3 jar files into a jar file, xml.jar, together with all other class files. (I put a copy of these 2 DOM3 .jar files and the JDBC connector file, mysql-connector-java-2.0.14-bin.jar into the same folder as with other class files, then run something in the command line like:
D:\>jar cmf manifest.mf xml.jar xmltree/*   //xmltree is the folder/also the package nameThe resulting xml.jar can use the included 2 DOM3 jar files, however another JDBC error occurs when attempting getting a connection to MySQL( details also on http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=642812 ). Why do these jar files behave differently, as 2 DOM3 files do well in the xml.jar, whilst the JDBC connector jar does not like it?
Another anomaly is that, though they work well by double clicking xml.jar, the 2 DOM3 jar files still do nothing if executing the jar from a command line as follows:

    Deploy Web Services.zip ‏20 KB

    Hi,
long time ago, but I can remember. You have to copy a folder.
    e.g. I have the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\2013\LVWS , but there is no LVWS folder in \Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\2012
(I have a new computer, and for some reason I'm also missing the file in the LV2012 folder now.)
Try to copy from another version to 2012 U(or download my fzip). I also don't now, why it is missing. Maybe something during the LV2012 installion was wrong.
    Hope I could help,

    Hello captfoss!
The Linux video drivers are buggy. If you give them video they don't like, they crash. You seem to repeat this statement quite often......but I don't think s/he is using Linux. S/He is using Solaris10 !!!
I don't know if Linux and Solaris are same OS.............
Thanks! And please don't take it as a comment! :-)
