Trouble setting up a wireless IP camera

I have a Foscam wireless IP camera that I got working easily. I just bought a new GOING model IP camera and am having problems. My AirPort network's IP is 10.0.1.1. When I got the Foscan, I just ran IP Camera Tool and the cam showed right up. From there it was easy to set up. Now this new cam does not show up. I emailed them and they said the default IP for the cam is 192.168.1.10, They told me to add a 192.168.1.x address to my Mac. How can I do that? I see you can change DHCP range in Network options, but won't everything on my network stop working? My Foscam cam is on 10.0.1.4. The web server running on my Mac is at 10.0.1.5 and my Apple TV is at 10.0.1.13. What options do I have here?

Make sure the correct encryption mode is supported. Many times people confuse the different encryption types. Best bet is to not have any encryption set on your router and see if that works first.

  • Trouble setting up my Wireless network

I have just purchased a Wireless-N Broadband router WRT300N and trying to set up a wireless home network.  My ISP provided a Dynalink RTA1320 modem and uses internet configuration type “PPPoA”.      PPPoE sounds close but this didn't work for me.  When I try to open an internat page I get “This page cannot be displayed" The network appears connected and when I run ipconfig  the IP address, Subnet and Gateway are all listed.   I thought it might be password issue.  I tested my isp account user name and password and they work.   When I connect as admin to 192.168.1.1 with only my modem I use a different password from the one I use when I connect to the same from the router.   Does that matter?   Yes I am a wireless novice.   Any suggestions?

  • Trouble setting up my wireless internet with Built-in ethernet plug?!

I purchased a MacBook (OS X 10.5.5) in August 2008 and have been able to connect to a wireless internet until mid February (I live in an apartment and the owner of the network moved) so i went to Telus and purchased a wireless internet port. I have the Siemens square box. When i used the set up CD it kept asking to connect the the wire from the port to my Ethernet plug however when i called Telus they said that my computer's port is wireless and I would need apples assistance to set it up.
So after this much phone tag and frustration I called apple, and they said they could help me out but my phone assistance warranty is up and it would cost me 60 dollars to get them to help me for a few minutes or they suggested coming online and looking around in apples support department
I'm sure someone else has had this problem so any kind of helpful explanation as to what i am to do or a link to a previous explanation would be great!
    Thanks

Try pressing and holding the reset buttonfor ~30 sec.
I had trouble too, but I was using the setup CD that came with the router. Kept stopping at step 7 when it asked for a password. Tech support suggested using the on-line install. www.linksys.com/easy
But the password problem kept persisting until they advised on a 2nd call to use the reset button on the back of the router.

  • Wireless Network Camera

Hi there, i'm in need of some help.
I need to set up a wireless network camera for some home security.
I've been recommended some software called Security Spy, i just need a cost effective indoor camera which is pointing outside through he window. Ideally it needs to have motion detection, but to be honest I really don't know that much about them and I'm getting desperate. Can anyone point me in the right direction of someone who sells Mac network compatible cameras please, any help or advice will be massively appreciated thank you all.

    evocam isn't bad...
it uses your inbult isight cam or a web cam
you can set up either static shots or constant video feed over http:// or even ftp
otherwise there are lots of IT/electronic companies that sell basic IP cameras ~AU$200 pretty easy to set up and often come with software based motion detection

  • Airport base Station and Wireless Web cams

I just tried to take a free CNET online course that purported to show me, step by step, how to set up a wireless Web cam with an Internet connection. Yea, right. I found that it was totally geared to PC users and almost no information was provided for us. Even the suggested hardware manufacturers (Linksys) said they didn't support Macs.
I have Airport card and base station and need to set up 2-3 outdoor security cams around a home in a remote location. Can anyone advise me along these lines?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you considered using Security Spy? http://www.securityspy.com/
They claim to support many wireless cameras....but it doesn't appear Linksys is one of them. Linksys historically doest not provide any Mac support, and I have personally learned to no longer support companies that don't provide some type of Mac support. (I've been a fan of Linksys historically, untill recently)
I hope Security spy works for you - let us know how it works out.

  • Trouble setting up wireless printing between my Macbook Pro w. Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and my HP C4780 Printer

    Hi all,
I'm having a frustrating problem trying to set up the wireless printing between my Macbook Pro 13" to my HP C4780 printer. I had no problem installing and configuring this before on my previous computer, a Macbook. However, when I got my new computer (the Macbook Pro), my wireless network wont show up when I try and install the wireless capability during the printer setup. I had to buy a new router and set up a new network around the time I got my new computer, so I wonder if this has something to do with it. My wireless network is a WPA/WPA2 personal, but so was my old wireless network with the old router and I didn't have a problem installing the wireless. I thought I might not have had the most up-to-date driver for the printer software, but I do. So, i'm stuck! Any thoughts??

Go here and download all the manuals and read them on how to set up your printer.

  • Airport extreme wireless ip camera wlan details

i am trying to setup a wireless ip camera. i can connect to camera with ethernet cable plugged in. i am having trouble setting it up to connect wirelessly. i need to set a wireless ip address, subnet mask and gateway, how do i find these setting on my airport extreme so i can connect camera wirelessly?

You need to create a wireless network on the AirPort Extreme, and then you probably will want to assign a compatible static LAN IP address to the camera so that you can port-forward from the router to the camera.

  • Trouble setting up my WRT54GS

I've been having lots of problems setting up my Wireless Router Model #  WRT54GS. First of all I followed the steps here:
     http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3686
I got to  the part where I was told to Access the Web-Based Setup Page here:
     http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3676
I attempted to enter the router's IP address using the default "192.168.1.1" but I had no luck; only a Page not found message.  Afterwards I attempted to reset the router by holding the Reset button for 30 seconds (  I actually tried holding it longer on a 2nd attempt cause I noticed no changes in the behavior of the lights). After repeated attempts at resetting it to the default, I could still not access the Web Base Setup Page using the default address. I then attempted to check the router's IP address using the following instructions:
     http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3997
I completed the step of Checking if the Computer is Set to DHCP exactly as I was instructed but I could not complete the step "Checking the Router's IP Address." After typing "ipconfig/all" and pushing enter in the MS DOS prompt, I discovered I did not have a Default Gateway address. So I then followed the instructions here:
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4736
After running the "ipconfig/release" and then running "ipconfig/renew" I received an Error Message that said "An error occured while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
I want to reiterate that I checked, double and then triple checked to make sure that I followed the steps in the Checking if the Computer is Set Up to DHCP section correctly. All the right boxes are checked. There was no where else to go with the help from there so I came to the forums.  Please help. I would really like to get my wireless connection working in my home.
    Thank you,
     CWood834

Your WRT54GS should work with your SB5101 modem when the WRT54GS is reset to factory defaults, however, in some cases, you might also need to "clone" the MAC address of your computer into your WRT54GS.  (Note:  If you clone the MAC address of your computer, be sure to use the same computer that provides a working Internet connection when wired directly to the SB5101.)
To fix your system, please do the following:
First, reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, then power down your entire network.  Leave your computer wired to the WRT54GS.   Next, using an ethernet cable, connect the ethernet port of your SB5101 to the Internet port of the WRT54GS.  Do not connect anything to the USB port of the SB5101.  Power up your modem and allow it to fully boot (1-5 minutes).  Power up the WRT54GS and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).  Power up your computer.  Try to get on the Internet.  If this does not work, temporarily turn off your computer software firewall, and try again.  If you still have trouble, power down your entire network again.  Temporarily disconnect the SB5101 from the WRT54GS.  Login to the WRT54GS and clone the MAC address of your computer into the router.  Exit your browser and power down your entire network.  Reconnect the SB5101 to the WRT54GS.  Power up your network and try again to connect to the Internet.  It should work.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is likely dead. Report back with this problem
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. Report back with this problem.
If you need additional help, please state the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Trouble setting up a network printer

    Hello,
I'm having trouble setting up the new printer. It's an HP ColorJet 2600n and it's connected to a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. According to the limited instructions that came with the printer, I should be able to just plug it into the router and it will work. That's not the case. We have 5 computers that will be using the printer.
    1GHz Imac PowerPC G4
    Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5
    Dual 3.0 Xeon Mac Pro
    a 5 year old G4 laptop
    2.0GHz MacBook Pro
All of the computers are up to date with OSX and all other updates. the laptops and the Imac are on the network wireless. What do I have to do to get this printer working? Networking and whatnot is not my area of experise so I don't really know where to begin or what to look for.

the 2600n is a Bonjour-only printer. When you Add in Printer Setup, you just look for it to appear in the Default Browser window and select it.
Because HP installers usually screw up permissions, you should repair permissions (Disk Utility) and restart the Mac(s) before attempting to Add the printer.
I don't have a Linksys router - it is possible it blocks mDNS (Bonjour). Maybe there's a firmware update? I would check several sources before updating the Linksys firmware - they have been know to have negative effects on Macs.
Just checking - do you only have one router or a router plus wireless base station (like Airport Extreme)?

  • Having trouble setting up my comcasts wi-fi

I just got the MacBook Pro and I'm having trouble connecting to my wireless network at home (Comcast).  I had no problem at work with it.

No. Your CNAME setting is not correct. The CNAME and web.me.com are correct with web.me.com being your host. However, your domain name is incorrect - don't understand why you have put mobileme before it? You just enter either your domain name on its own so domain.com or you need to set up two separate CNAME entries, one being for www, CNAME, web.me.com and then one being @, CNAME, web.me.com. The @ stands for your domain name and the www is your sub domain.
Try altering this and it should work okay.

  • Having trouble setting up Time capsule...

I just bought a new iMac last night. I also picked up Time Capsule and Apple TV. I'm having a problem setting up Time Capsule correctly. I'll go through what I did step by step and hopefully someone can help me as I've never tried to set up a wireless network before.
I'm connected to the internet via Comcast. I have the outside cable coming into the modem and the ethernet cable from the modem i have plugged into TC's WAN port (the one with the gear logo).
I start by opening Airport Utility ( I upgraded to the most recent version using the install disc that came with TC) and it recognizes TC in the left side of the window. It says it found TC with default settings and gives a name for it and an Airport ID. I click continue.
The next window prompts me to name the TC and assign a password. I do so and click continue.
The next window gives me some options about setting up a new or existing wireless network. It says it found some existing networks which I assume are my neighbors. I select "I don't have a wireless network and want to create one". I click continue.
The next window prompts me to give a name and security level to the new network. I provide a name and select WPA/WPA2 Personal and enter and verify a password. I click continue.
The next window asks whether I'd like TC to be in Bridge mode or Share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT.
If I click Share a single IP, a popup tells me "This will cause my TC to continue to blink amber and do I want to ignore this and continue?". So I figure this can't be a good thing and I click on Bridge mode not really knowing what it means.
The next window asks me to enter the TCP/IP info from my ISP. It also says to choose "Using DHCP" if I receive an IP address automatically. So in the box where it says "Configure IPv4", I select "Using DHCP" and there is an IP address and Subnet mask with numbers after each. Below that is Router Address, with fields for DNS Server, Domain Name and DHCP Client ID. These fields are blank. I click continue.
The next window says TC will use these settings:
TC name - Jim's Time Capsule
Wireless Mode - Create a wireless network
    Network Name - Jim's Network
    Wireless Security - WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Connect Using - Ethernet
    Configure IPv4 - Using DHCP
    IP Address - (Provided Automatically)
If settings are correct, click Update to finish setting up your TC or click Go Back to change settings. I click Update and a box tells me that the device and its network service will be temporarily unavailable and do I want to continue? I click continue.
The next window tells me that the settings for TC have been updated successfully and its being configured. I then get a window reporting a problem. It says-
"Problem 1 of 1: Internet Connection
Your Apple wireless device does not have a valid IP address. Make sure your Apple wireless device is connected to your broadband modem or local network, verify your settings and try again. If you still can't connect, call your ISP."
There are two boxes with options. The first is "Connect Using" and "ethernet" is selected with "PPoE" being the other option. The second box says "Configure IPv4" and "Using DHCP" is selected, and "Manually" is the other option.
Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, but I don't have a clue. I'm getting online fine when I plug the ethernet cable into the back of the iMac. I've reset the modem by hitting the reset button. The light turns green on the TC but I can't connect to the internet. Any ideas? Feel free to call me a big dummy
    Jim

Thank you, Jim Somoygi. I had a similar multi-hour odyssey with a AE and a Comcast cable modem.
This solved the seemingly endless blinking amber light:
    1. unplug power from the modem and AE (or time capsule). Go get a beverage of your choice (wait a couple of minutes).
    2. My modem has a battery backup (Comcast phone service). So, I pressed a tiny reset button on the back of the Comcast modem (it's made by Arris). With the battery backup, I'm not sure I would have been able to reset the modem simply by unplugging.
    3. Make sure there is an ethernet cable connecting the cable modem and the AE or TC
    4. Plug the modem back in, wait for the lights to come on. I also had to press a "standby" button on the front of the modem to get all the lights to come on.
    5. Plug in the AE (or TC)
    6. Green light on the AE (it's not easy being green)
    7. Choose the appropriate Airport network & surf away.
I will say that the problem seems to be with the modem, rather than the AE. Once I reset the modem, I could configure the AE with ease. Once the AE is configured, it is absolutely rock stable. Before I fiddled with the network & brought this on myself, I enjoyed shockingly stable networking with the AE -- much better than with previous attempts with Netgear or Buffalo products (although I do like the ease with which Buffalo products can be configured together, using their proprietary handshaking protocol "AOSS").

  • Having trouble setting up network

    Hi guys,
I just recently moved to a new house and am having trouble setting up the network with my airport extreme. There is a cable modem that is networked to the house so that every room has an outlet.
I connected the airport to one of the outlets with my macbook and when I create network, I cannot connect to the internet wirelessly even though the macbook detects a network when I set it up with bridge mode. But hard wired through the router I can surf the web as I am doing right now.
When I hit share an IP address, the internet does not work at all. It seems to work fine with my old netgear router, but would prefer using the airport.
I've also reset the airport as well with still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried powering down the modem for 5 min and then turning on with the ethernet connected to the WAN port of airport extreme?

online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?

  • Frustrated trying to set up a wireless network with Bellsouth Fastaccess's Westell Wirespeed modem.

Today, about 6 hours ago in fact, I came home with a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. It took me a while to get a grasp on how to connect it. I had no network port on the back of my PC, as far as I knew, and I had been connecting my Westell Wirespeed modem to my PC via USB for years. In the end I ended up spending an hour digging up the old Ethernet cable that came with the modem, and finally managed to do everything the Router setup program asked of me.
One hour after restarting multiple times, experimenting with different orders of plugging in things, and countless resettings of the Router AND the modem, it finally set up the network. It ran for an hour.
One of my cats ran behind my computer, jarring one of the cords and causing the PC to turn off. It happens twice or thrice a year when they get rowdy. When I jiggle all the plugs back into place and turn on my computer, the connection was dead! Gone! And there was nothing in my Program Files that said "Start Linksys Network" or anything convenient like that. I suppose that would be too easy, right? And my internet didn't work either! So with no other choice, I opened up the installation program again - there was no trace of any sort of folder or application on my PC linked to the router. In fact, as far as I can see, I still have no way to get into ANY sort of router-related application aside from the install CD.
So I stuck that back in there.
I've spent the last three hours grueling over this thing. I connect it all before turning the PC on. Nothing. I disconnect everything and plug it all back in meticulously step by step according to the program. Nothing. The install program always gets through the PC checking, and lets me fill in the PPOE (or whatever) information. As it tries to update the router configuration, though, it tells me one of two things.
1 ) If I have just done a reset of the router, it gets to 99% in the router configuration progress bar before telling me the 'router configuration failed'.
2 ) If I exit the setup program and reopen it, I get a generic "So and so has caused an error in 4746545x48345675 (or some other random number)," and asks me to either Cancel or Debug.
My hands are sore and I'm stressed to the limits. I bought a laptop a week ago for the sole purpose of alleviating the battles my kids have over the only source of internet in the house, but it's just been sitting there. I'm really at the end of my wits. Between the errors that don't tell you what went wrong and the perfectly-connected router that keeps pretending it's not connected, I'm just about ready to return the laptop.

This happened to me when I was setting up the wireless router for a friend.  The issue is with the Westall modem.  You need to go in and setup the "bridge" option on the westell modem.  The link below gives directions or you can call bellsouth dsl support (this is how I learned about it).
    http://help.bellsouth.net/bellsouth/asp/contentview.asp?isbrowse=true&sprt_cid=3f993409%2Ddff7%2D422...
    Good luck
    Solution:
    Method 1 - Hard Reset
Restore the modem to default settings by pressing the Reset button on the back of the modem and holding it for 3 seconds. (Bridged mode is the default setting for the Westell).
After the modem regains sync, it is in Bridged mode. Do not attempt to surf into the modem as surfing into the modem will enable the Easy Login page and convert the modem from bridged mode to a PPP mode.
    Method 2 – Bridged Mode
Access the Westell interface using http://192.168.1.254 or http://launchmodem.
Click on the Broadband DSL Line button.
    Click on the Protocols button
Select the radio button to the left of Option 2 (Bridge)
Click the save button. Once the modem has restarted it is in bridge mode.
    ALL STEPS COMPLETE
