Trying to recover deleted imessages, also wondering why there is only 1 back up after weekly syncs.

Hi All,
I am trying to recover deleted imessages from my iphone 5s .  I planned to restore the phone to a previous back up,  however,  I am only showing one back up in Jan 2014 and another in Dec. 2014, with nothing in between.  I can't understand this as I sync my phone at least once a week.
I have tried Dr. Fone (Wondershare) on trial basis but it only seems to pull up a few messages, not all.  I tried the trial of Tenorshare and it pulled up nothing except media files.
I have tried to look in my computer Library for back ups but nothing shows there, no 'messages' folder or other imessage back up archive.
I am on a MacBook pro 10.7.5  Lion

You see the backups in iTunes->Preferences->Devices.
The "sync" backups overwrite everytime. You can have an extra backup when you do not a "sync" but click the button "Backup now" (a new backup is made which will be overwritten when you do this again). That backup (with date) will appear next to the "sync" backup. There are two backups in total possible.

Hello I am just wondering why there is a message of error 1004 when i tryed to make the update on my apps. Does someone know what it means?

Yes, many know what this means.  You can too.  Just type in "error 1004" in the search box at the top of this page.  Or, just look to the right.  You'll find many links in the "More Like This" box.
Always good forum etiquette to search for previous posts on the topic before posting.

  • Trying to recover deleted lightroom catalogues

Trying to recover deleted lightroom catalogues. It appears I have found them (with help of recovery software) but in recovery all of the names have been changed to random numbers. If I choose to recover, will the catalogues not open since the original names have been changed?

Catalog name is irrelevant as long as it ends with .LRCAT. Double-click on the file to open it.
And from now on, make regular and automated backups of your catalog file(s), preferably using the built-in Lightroom catalog backup function.

How ca I recover deleted imessags from iMessage?

    Hi Toniann,
If you have a recent iCloud backup that was done when that message was on the devcie, you can restore from that backup.
No, Apple does not keep your messages, no do they have access to them. That would be a serious invasion of privacy, don't you think?

  • Why does fix capitalization work when there is only one space after the period in pages 09?

why does fix capitalization work when there is only one space after the period in pages 09?  For example:  "Turn on 3rd St. After the traffic light."  There is only one space after the period in "St."  shouldn't it only auto correct after TWO spaces..??  the word After, should be after..

You may also use a noBreak space after the period at the end of the abbreviation.
If I remember well, in such case the capitalization will not apply.

  • I've lost my Contacts, Messages, Photos etc after having IOS 4.3.2 installed at the Apple Store. I cannot locate previous back-up history, only the back-up after I synced the phone after it had been updated. How do I recover my previous info please?

I've lost my Contacts, Messages, Photos etc after having iOS 4.3.2 installed at the Apple Store. I cannot locate previous back-up history, only the back-up after I synced the phone after the update had been installed. How do I recover my previous information please?

You should have restored the backup that was on your computer before syncing. Now it is too late. However, if you followed the instructions in the manual and set up an app on your computer to sync contacts and calendar to they will still reside in those apps. Photos in the camera roll are lost, however, if you had followed the instructions in the manual to copy photos from the camera roll to your computer regularly you can restore them to the photo app from the copy on your computer. Text messages are gone for good. Music and Apps should be in the music library on your computer.

  • Can I recover deleted iMessages from my iPhone?

My friend accidentally deleted our iMessage chats. Is there any way to recover them from the iPhone 5? The phone has never been backed up to a computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If a backup exists that was created prior to the messages being deleted but obviously after they were sent/received, restore the device using that backup.

  • Is there a way to recover old iMessages?  Or is there a way to track iMessages?

Is there a way to recover old iMessages?  Are these messages held in the network somewhere?  If so, how easy is it to recover them?  I need to look up some messages for a file of mine.
    Thank You

    Look on the device.
If they've been deleted off the device, the only hope of finding them would be to restore to a backup created prior to them being deleted off the device.

  • Why can I only scan right after login?

I am using a Canon MX 850 printer/scanner and scanning only works right after I log out and back in again, after a while the scan dialog just shows a grey box.
Any idea what's causing this and what I can do about it?

I have been trying to figure this out for ages, ever since Mountain Lion I think.
The only thing I have noticed is, When I first login, these Canon processes are running:
      346   ??  S      0:00.35 /Library/Printers/Canon/IJScanner/Utilities/Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector2.app/Contents/MacOS/Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector2
      731   ??  S      0:01.11 /Users/jonathan/Library/Printers/Canon MX860 series.app/Contents/MacOS/PrinterProxy
      740   ??  S      0:00.77 /Library/Image Capture/Devices/Canon IJScanner1.app/Contents/MacOS/Canon IJScanner1 -psn_0_254014
Later when I come back (after my computer has been asleep for a while, or maybe just after some time), I come back and these are the running canon processes:
      346   ??  S      0:00.61 /Library/Printers/Canon/IJScanner/Utilities/Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector2.app/Contents/MacOS/Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector2
    1061   ??  S      0:00.21 /Users/jonathan/Library/Printers/Canon MX860 series.app/Contents/MacOS/PrinterProxy
I am not sure what happened to the other one or even if it matters.
I am really frustrated but will keep poking around I think ... This is the first time I was able to search for this issue and see anybody else have it as well.
I do run "Little Snitch" and I wonder if anybody else is as well? But come to think of it, My wife has the very same problem and is not running little snitch. So ... yeah probably not the cause.

  • So if iMessages deleted from one device are not deleted from others why not recover deleted iMessages from iCloud?

I accidentally deleted ALL the messages from my wife from my iPhone, nearly all of them iMessages.  Yet, I can see all of them on my iMac and on my MacPro.  Indeed, there is a discussion item (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21313040#21313040) that confirms that messages are deleted and maintained independently on each device, even though they are all ultimately resident only in Apple's cloud.
I would dearly love to have all of them back on my iPhone.  Yet, reading about 20 or so discussions here, the only way to recover them would be a recovery from my iTunes backup.  I have a somewhat recent backup, but I'll still lose about 100 messages that way.
So, if all the messages are still in the cloud, why CAN'T I recover them directly from the cloud to my iPhone?  Any ideas?  Any software?  Is this an App just begging to be built??
    Thanks

It depends on the type of email account you are using, not on iCloud.  If you are using an IMAP or exchange account, when you delete from one device, it is deleted from all devices.  If you are using a POP (POP3) account, it won't.  (iCloud email, Gmail and Yahoo are all IMAP accounts.)

  • How can I recover deleted folders - also - question about editing/deleting msf files

Context: My wife accidentally deleted a series of folders from Thunderbird v.24.6.0
She says that the system warned her that there was "not enough space" or something like that (she doesn't remember clearly) and asked her if she wanted to "delete them permanently" (or something like that), but she pressed "yes" anyway. She then freaked out, and when I came in to see what she was screaming and crying about, she told me the above story.
SO, after spending the last 2-3 hours reading through help articles and finding my local Mail file/structure, learning about Mork and msf and compacting and X-Mozilla-Status codes, downloading Notepad++ and poking around through some of the files to familiarize myself with their format ... here I am trying to learn how to restore the folders.
Here is where I am at so far:
    1. When I went to the Activity Manager, it shows the folders that were deleted, one below the others in a list with the title "Deleted folder foldername" with a dozen different folder names.
    2. When I look for the one of the folders that was deleted in the Mail/path/foldername" - I open it (the one without the file extension) in notepad++ and it is empty. There only exists line 1 and there is no text in it (vs. the other folders I check that have the emails in standard From_line format.
This concerns me greatly and leaves me stuck. Did TB actually delete and compact the folder? Are they really deleted, not just X-Mozilla-Status deleted?
    3. I don't understand how to restore a folder. I know I can go into a folder and change the X-Mozilla-Status for individual messages - but how to I restore the entire folder? I don't understand how the msf related to the deleted files/folders. It seems like there would be an entry/code somewhere that tells TB - "don't read this entire folder" that I could reverse/edit. I can't figure it out on my own.
    4. I understand that, if I delete the foldername.msf file, TB will compact the foldername file. I think I should NOT do this because it will permanently delete the files I want to restore - right?
Any help would be appreciated. I have an unhappy wife. Thank you.

The message she garbled I would assume is that the deletions were to large and that the deleted folder would be bypassed. So all the normal recovery from the trash is simply not possible. There is no Thunderbird magic available unfortunately. So your reduced to using operating system undelete software. I have no idea how that will go, but I just downloaded this http://ntfsundelete.com/download and it does appears to do the job, even if the close text is so pale as to be hard to see.

  • Trying to recover deleted files

The man I spoke with at apple told me to come on here and ask you guys what the best program for recovering files is. I accidentally deleted MS word and iChat. Any suggestions?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you delete the applications or their data files?
If you deleted the applications, just reinstall them.
If you deleted the data files, and have no backups, then stop using the disk they were on immediately, as in shut your Mac down *right now.* The longer you use it, the more likely it is for them to be overwritten and lost forever.
None of the +Data Recovery+ apps are cheap; the one I see mentioned here the most is *Data Rescue II.* Whatever you do, be sure that what you get is compatible with SL. Look for apps via Google, VersionTracker.com or MacUpdate.com.
You've now learned the hard way that you need to make regular backups of your system. You already have Time Machine, and there are others as well. With good backups, this could have been fixed easily, in minutes.

  • I added titles to my iMovie project and when I preview it they show up.  But when I Share--I tried downloading onto desktop and also uploading to You Tube, only the video part shows.

I haven't used iMovie in a long time and it's a newer version than I used in the past, so maybe I'm just missing something.  I uploaded 2 clips and put both into the project section.
I put in a title at the beginning that I wanted to fade and I added additional titles in a different position to indicate certain things happening in the video.  The first title bar appears as a big purple bar below the first clip.  The additional ones appear as little purple bars above it. Eventually I wanted to take the big one out but when I deleted it, the video part also disappeared so I kept it but just took out the text.
Then when I dragged the second clip into the work area, it popped into the same line as the big purple bar.  I just kept adding little title bars along that and that seemed ok.
When I previewed it all in the upper right box, it seemed to do exactly what I wanted to do.  But then when I Shared it, only the second (larger) clip appeared and no titles appeared anywhere.
I'm sure I just put somethings in the wrong place and obviously I don't know all the correct language for projects, events, etc.  Have I made any obvious mistakes that are easy (I hope) to fix?
I'm using Maverick and iMovie 10.0.3
    Thank you!

Thanks victoryhat.  I learned some new things from this very clear tutorial.  But it didn't answer my question about why the titles don't stay with the video when I export it.
He did mention something that might be a clue however.  When he talked about importing a title he created as an image, he noted that he was careful to make the image the same size as the video he was adding it to: 1280 x 720.  Since I took the video with an iPhone in the vertical position, my video image isn't the same size and orientation as the titles.
Maybe there is a way I should be setting the screen for this size???  I'll go back and play around.  Meanwhile thanks for alerting me to Gary Rosenzweig's MacMost tutorials.  Very clear.  I'll look for more.

  • Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine. Tried Proxies, but not sure what to do there. Only one box was checked, I unchecked it, and made no difference. Have also tried some other DNS numbers, nothing worked yet.

    Hi There,
Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine.
I have found some archieved discussions about this, but none that went  into detail about how to fix problem using proxies - I don't really  understand what they are/ do.
I went into the Proxies screen, Only one  box was checked, "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" I unchecked it, and made no  difference. There was also some stuff written in the "Bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains" I deleated that and nothing different happened. Have also tried some other DNS numbers,  nothing worked yet.
    Any suggestions?

I still have no idea what was wrong with Safari last week, but I opened it today, and its all working! Hurrah!
Woohoo! I'm a great fan of things fixing themselves. Fingers crossed in New Zealand for no further problems.
