TS1559 wifi signal strength problem

my ipad 3 wifi signal strength  is very (increase or decrease) and some time its appear one bar
please tell me what i do for its solution
thanks

Could be a router problem or settings problem.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPhone 4 wifi signal strength meter not displaying

Please forgive me if there is already a post on this but I've been searching around and haven't found anything exactly like my problem. I'm connected to wifi with my iPhone 4. I know this because in the settings it says I am, as well as I have wifi speeds and the YouTube on my iPhone isn't compressed. However, the wifi signal strength isn't showing up and I just have the 3G icon. If I put the phone into airplane mode and then turn on the wifi it then shows up, but goes away when I turn the airplane mode off. It appears to be a software issue, anyone else having this problem?

Yes, I am having this problem as well.
I have tried the airplane mode 'fix' you tried as well and have the same issue.
I have also noticed that by going into Settings > General > Network and turning off 'Cellular Data' my wifi turns on, I'm at work and I can access the itunes account on our music server (which is usually only available via wifi - to que up tracks in itunes dj etc) however i cannot browse via Safari as it tells me i'm not connected to the internet.
If I turn 3G on and off as well the bars will appear, however it's the same symptoms, and after a minute or so the wifi drops again.
In my wifi settings it shows the wifi as ticked and in use.
I can browse the internet via Safari fine without wifi.
I'm not sure what's going on to be honest, my 3G on iOS4 worked fine yesterday at work....today I'm on my new iphone 4 and have encountered this problem.

  • I seem to have very poor wifi signal strength,is there any way to boost my signal

I seem to have very poor wifi signal strength,is there any way to boost my signal

If you gave some information on what network equipment you are using (make, model, version) and where you are experiencing signal problems it would help in giving advice.

  • Sudden Decreased Wifi Signal Strength

I recently "upgraded" my internet from 35 to 50, and since then have noticed that my wifi has been absolutely terrible.  I can't even use my Galaxy S4 because unless I'm no further than about 50 feet away, it disconnects so many times that I want to throw it through a wall.  And now I'm about to go over my monthly data allowance because it never allows me to be connected to wifi.
I walk my dog daily and noticed that before I could make it all the way down the block, a good 100 yards, and still be connected to my home wifi.  Now it doesn't even kick in until I'm literally walking in the front door.  I've been reading all of the blogs and have seen tons of similar complaints from other customers, but am just wondering if by some miracle someone on here would have some advice for me that will actually work.  I've reset the router, changed the channels, turned off my phone's bluetooth....nothing has worked.
Anyone out there have the miracle cure?  I'll owe you one!

Since nobody has jumped in with a miracle cure, let me start a dialog with this.
It seems unlikely that your wifi range would change just because you changed speed plans.   Do you have another WiFi device, a laptop, etc., that you can check your WiFi signal strength with?  As a troubleshooting step, I would want to eliminate the possiblity that it's your Galaxy S4 that has developed a problem receiving WiFi signals.
If you can confirm that your phone is not the problem, my suggestion would be add a 3rd party wireless access point to your network, Netgear, Linksys, etc.  While I've had no problem with my Actiontec router, I (and others) have found that its WiFi coverage doesn't measure up to other manufacturers' WiFi devices.

  • Wifi signal strength on 2012 Macbook Pro

Well after extensive diagnostic testing with other computers, ipad 2 and 3 generation ipad the Wifi signal strength needs some tweaking on the 2012 13 in macbook pro.  The signal and download speed is 1/2 the speed of other devices I own the same distance from my home router.  I get 10MB/s typically and my ipad gets close to that using Speedtest.net. When the same distance away from the router on the new 2012 macbook pro I get 3MB/s-4mb/s.  Way off from what I should get.  I have tried several times at different locations.  An older MBP gets similar strength and readings close to 10MB/s.
Is there a tweak or does Apple need to tweak somehow?

I would and keep bringing back until I got one that worked like the other WiFi devices you have.

  • Problems with poor wifi signal strength, need help?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated? This is a lengthy explanation. Thanks in advance.
I have a 3rd generation Airport Extreme wirelessly bridged to a 4th generation Time Capsule. I have noticed only mild increase in signal strength.  Surprisingly I have only 1 – 2 bars of signal strength when standing next to the bridged Airport Extreme. There are areas of the house that continue to have very weak coverage ranging from 0 – 2 bars depending on the day and others that continue to have no wifi coverage.
The house has Cat 5 cable in all rooms. Most rooms only have a phone jack wired to the end of the Cat 5 cable but two rooms have data ports. All the wires (phone and data) run to the same junction box and are connected to, what appears to be, a simple parallel bridge.  (There are a couple unused access points on the bridge. A few years back, I ran an additional line for a phone by simply pressing the colored wire into the corresponding site and the phone works fine)
It was suggested to plug the two routers directly into the data ports rather than have them communicate wirelessly. When doing this, I had no signal at the other end and the phone stopped working.
What is the best way to fix the weak wifi signal problem?
    1.     Do I need to tweak my current wireless set up? (FYI, In the Airport Utility, both devices are listed and have green dots)
    2.     Do I need to buy an additional Airport Extreme to bridge to the Time Capsule to cover the current dead areas? (unless there is something I should do different in the set up, hesitant to do this, since I have only seen a marginal boost with my current bridge)
    3.     Would it be better to use the existing cat 5 cable and create a functional “hard wired” network that I can use to connect the two wireless routers? (If this is the answer, is this something relatively simple that I can do myself or should I hire a professional?)
    Thanks again.

It was typical awhile back, where you have "whole-house" Ethernet running back to a patch panel to use the cable runs for both data and phone service. This works fine as long as you only wanted 100 Mbps Ethernet (or Fast Ethernet) connections for data. Gigabit Ethernet requires all of the twisted pairs in the CAT-5 cable and cannot share any of those pairs for phone lines.
So any wall outlet that is wired for both phone & data will not provide Gigabit Ethernet ... unless there are at least two CAT-5 cables going to that outlet. I am only mentioning this as to the potential for reduced bandwidth on some of your connections as all of your AirPort base stations are Gigabit capable.
As far as "weak" signals, I am assuming that you have configured all of your AirPort base stations for a roaming and NOT an extended wireless network ... correct? Even if you already have, please review the following Apple Support article to make sure you didn't miss anything. Please post back your results.

  • Problems with reconnecting and WIFI signal strength

    Three problmes
    1) Weaker signal strength
    2) Ipad doesn't connect to wifi after wake up
    2) apple.com takes forever to load. Shame.

What kind of AP do you have? What is the FW Version? Is it the latest? What is your network configuration? If you are looking for help you may want to provide more information.

  • 2g Touch's Wifi signal strength

Ok, about a week ago i posted about getting strange behaviour with my 2g Ipod touch's wifi signal meter: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8098190#8098190
I finally downloaded Wifinder (which measures the signal strenght) and find im getting really low readings in comparison to my Imac's wifi. Standing right infront of the router i get a reading of 60 (the scale being from 1 to 100) and in the next room i get a reading of 35-45 where my imac gets around 75. Im not having problems connecting or surfing (the routers if tested are all WEP) but I am concerned with the signal strength. Can anyone give me any reference of the signal with Wifinder on their Ipod Touch? Is the touch's wifi reception significantly lower than other wifi devices?
I might just go back to the apple store tomorrow, still thinking about it though (i hate having to prove to the guys at the store that my unit has an issue).
    Thanks in advance
    Adrian D

I haven't actually used that app, so I can't speak to its reliability. However, I can tell you that when I visit my parents' house (they live in suburban NJ - tons of houses about a driveway apart from each other) my Toshiba notebook picked up on a bunch of networks, my MacBook picks up on a few less networks, and my iPod touch finds only the one I created with my AirPort base station. So the iPod touch's Wi Fi antenna is certainly not as strong as what one would find in a computer.

  • Mid 2010 iMac Wifi signal strength issue

I am having issues maintaining a robust Wifi signal on my 21.5 inch 2010 iMac with 10.6.5 installed.
my symptoms are very similar to what is described in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2596933&tstart=0
in addition to that I am experiencing the following symptoms:
can't print to HP wireless printer
remote app for iphone doesn't find the iMac
mobile mouse remote app doesn't find the iMac
can't ping the iMac from Windows laptops on the same subnet or from the router itself
accumulation of send and receive errors in Network Utility
these symptoms occur after the machine has been connected to wifi for 30 minutes or so. Turning off Airport and turning it back on temporarily fixes the issue. the Mac firewall is turned off.
as reported in the post mentioned above, signal strength for my Windows laptops and other devices is consistently -25 but the iMac signal strength fluctuates wildly.
One more troubleshooting step that I have taken is to install Windows 7 on a boot camp partition to rule out the iMac hardware and physical location as the issue. While booted into Windows the iMac did not exhibit any of the above symptoms and held a steady -25 strength signal.
Lastly I am using a TrendNet Wireless N Access Point but have also tried an Apple Extreme and Express (both N). I've tried 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on various channels. I've even tried dialing down to G mode.
I've read other posts about DNS settings, Static instead of DHCP addressing, etc. and none of these has solved this issue.
    Thoughts anybody? TIA

Update concerning additional troubleshooting steps that I have taken.
    1) did a clean install of OS 10.6.3 onto an external drive and managed to replicate the issue....so that rules out apps, preference files, etc.
    2) managed to get a little bit more stability by setting up an Airport Express in 5Ghz mode with Interference Robustness turned on and the multicast rate set at 9Mbps....of course ios devices don't do 5Ghz so I still have to run another AP...so not an acceptable solution.
What else do I need to do to prove that it's a Mac OS software issue?

  • Signal strength problem on MacBook Pro

We bought a new AirPort Extreme 802.11n for Christmas. Setup was fairly easy. We have two Macs--an 2005 iMac which is plugged into the AE via Ethernet, and a MacBook Pro from mid-2006 that we use in other rooms.
Our problem is that the signal strength on the MacBook Pro is terrible. Even at just 20 feet away, the signal strength varies between 1 and 3 bars (most often just the one tiny bar). The wireless is basically unusable at that point because pages stop loading.
To eliminate interference as a problem, our daughter brought her 2008 MacBook Pro over and we carried it around the house. It had 4 bar strength with no problems wherever we went and held 4 bars for hours while she used it in the kitchen. So we're pretty sure the problem is not interference in our house, unless her newer AirPort card is far better at blocking it.
What could be causing the signal strength on the older MacBook Pro to be so lousy? The computer is a Intel Core Duo, 2.16 GHz, running 10.4.11. The wireless card is 0x168C, 0x86. The wireless network adapter is 802.11 a/b/g, so it's not running "n", but I can't believe that's the only reason it won't hold a good signal. The AE is set up to run "n" as well as the older ones. (Bear with me...this is my first experience with wireless!)
We've been trying everything we can think of to improve the signal but nothing works. When the bars are in the 2-3 range it runs the internet fine, but the problem is that the signal constantly shifts between 1 and 3. So is the AirPort card in the computer that weak?
Any ideas are most welcome. Thanks.

Sorry, posted in wrong forum by accident. Please ignore.

  • Two iPad 2s (Black and White) side by side - diff wifi signal strength

Why would two wifi-only iPad 2s sitting side by side, connected to the same router, have different signal strengths?  The 32gb black shifts between 1 or 2 bars and the 16gb white has 3 bars consistently.  Both have the same version of iOS (5).
    Thanks!

  • Any apps to measure wifi signal strength?

Want to assess signal strength in various locations.  Is there an iOS app or a Mac app to do this?

Where did you get that from? It displays signal strength and noise!!!
iStumbler does display signal strength and noise. I said that it does not display a reading for SNR.  Maybe you do not understand SNR?  Do you see a column heading for SNR in iStumbler?
SNR is the raw signal data minus raw noise displayed in dBm. The percentages that iStumbler displays are not very useful, but fun to look at.
It appears that you might be able to calculate the actual SNR by using the Inspector feature of iStumbler under the Edit menu, then do the math. Let us know if this works for you. Post back if you do not know how to do this. WiFi Explorer does this for you right on the main page.

  • Actiontec GT784WNV wifi signal transmitter problems

I purchased a Actiontec GT784WNV from Amazon three months ago and set it upwith minimum effort.   It worked well on both ethernet and Wifi until recently. My main PC  was on wifi and started having problems while the second PCworked OK on ethernet.  I moved the modem to connect the main PC to ethernet with sucess.     The second PC (now on wifi) now has a very slow and erratic connection. The problem showed up using my main PC wifi card and two different USB wifi adapters on the second PC.     In addition, my TV wifi  netflix  wifi  alsostopped working.   These tests indicate to me modem transmitter problemseven though the wifi signal bars show a strong signal.        I have reset the router which helps for awhile.  It has good ventilation anddoes not appear to be overheating.  I have tried channel 6 and 11 on themodem without helping. Any ideas on how to confirm the Actiontec transmitter  is broken or how to fix?

There are couple of settings you can try and make the wi-fi work properly. Change the security type from WPA-WPA2  to just WPA. Change the wireless mode from b/g/n  to b&g If possible, change the frequency channel to fixed mode (say 7 or 11). I have tried this and all of my wireless devices work as a charm. Hope this works for you too!

  • Signal Strength Problems - 1310

I've got a site with six 1310's installed. Prior to Hurricane Katrina we've had no problems with the setup.
Since the hurricane, we've replaced all but two of the units (those two didn't get flooded). On the units that were replaced, we also replaced the antenna's (12dBi omni's) and the cable's (100' ULL).
We are getting really poor signal strength, -85 to -90 dBm. The maximum distance between root and non-root's is about 425 feet with clear line of sight. I don't have a good calculation of Fresnel zone, but since it is 28ft at 2.8 miles, I think I'm clear on this also.
I've two non-roots that are about 200 feet away from root, on start-up they have a signal strength of about -50 dBm, but over 10-15 minutes, they degrade to -85 dBm.
The Cisco engineer I was working with was thrown in the towel, saying he doesn't know anything about antenna's.
I did a site survey and didn't come up with any interference.
    Anyone have any clues?
    Thanks,
    Westley

Thanks for the pictures, it helps a lot to see how things are layed out.
The move to replace 200' of low loss to 100 feet of Ultra low loss was probably a Very Good Thing and should have increased the signal strength considerably.
Grounding is very important, if only for the safety aspects. "Lightning Arrestors" don't stop lightning; they bleed off static electricity and (tend to) reduce the space charge that can accumulate on exposed elements.
It's always a good idea to put in a segment of fiber between the APs and the wired network to prevent the zap from killing the rest of the network (and maybe the phones too ....).
Check the coax for kinks (or places that were kinked), sharp bends, broken jacket, etc. At Gig+ frequencies, any malformed section of cabling an have a significant impact on the propagation of the signal.
Check each connector to make sure there isn't any "stuff" that is causing a casual short between the center conductor and the shield. Look closely, wire fragments from the braid can be pretty hard to see.
Also make sure that the center pin is ~level with the surrounding sleeve. Sometime the center pin is driven back into the connector (i.e., bad termination) and is not making sufficient contact.
The "starts strong and tapers off" symptom can only be something related to power, a failing component, heat (causing a component to break down), or some safety mechanism (i.e., high SWR causing the transmitter to throttle back)....
Try another known good power brick,
    Try another antenna (any antenna)
and see if the symptoms change.
Probably the most suspicious places would be the connections around the arrestor, and the connection from the coax to the antenna pigtail.
I looked at the pattern of your new antennas:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps469/prod_installation_guide09186a0080148acf.html
The "E-Plane" drawings are the "side view," the "H-Plane" is the "top view". Imagine the line from the center of the chart to the "90" (bottom) is your mast.
Anyway, the short version is: Check the cable and connections carefully (especially connections and the arrestors).
Second to that, make sure the power supply is stable.
It's not likely to be an IOS issue (but I'm a big fan of staying as current as possible).
Check it out and let us know if you find anything ...
    Good Luck
    Scott

  • Signal strength problems with n80

    hi all
have just upgraded from samsung d600 to nokia n80. phone works brilliant and have had none of the problems others seem to have had. even the battery lasts for upto 3 days with on/off usage media player etc.
my problem is that my signal is very weak in areas where the samsung was very strong. i work in a shop and the phone is next to useless as i cant even get 1 bar. outside its fine. compared to my mrs d500, if you put the phones side by side she can have 3 bars where i have 1 bar.
can any of you bright sparks explain why and what can be done. ive tried those cheap signal boosters but no improvement. please help before i bung it on ebay
