TS2771 What should I do about the backspace key/delete button doesn't work?
The backspace/delete key doesn't work on my son's ipod touch. What can I do?
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

The "P" and "Delete" button doesn't work
While text messaging or emailing the letter P nor the delete button work. Any suggestion?
try your standard troubleshooting steps:
power on/off
reset
restore
if those dont work, would probably be a good time to contact apple to get it looked at (in store, if you are near one, or by phone). -
What should I know about the recent virus on apple products?
To Whom can best help,
I recently learned about the recent virus that infected more than 500000 computers. I heard many talk about the software apple uses as the safest software available. However, now that I own a few products from apple, this recent virus that got ahold of some personal information has me wondering what is the best route to protect cell phones, ipods, ipads, and macbooks? is there an AV recomended? It would be great to get some adivce from apple techies. I tried looking up some information on the recent problem that had happened, I was hoping it would be addressed on the primary page of apple but found it wasn't. I am just a little paranoid about people accessing my info and try my best to stay ahead of the virus/trojans and stuff. for these electronics are there any really really amazing security apps people would recommend?
sincerely, a concerned customerFirst, it's not a virus but a trojan. We mostly recommend ClamXav 2.2.4 as anti-virus software for OS X.
Two Helpful Links Regarding Flashback Trojan
A link to a great User Tip about the trojan: Flashback Trojan User Tip
A related link in the tip to a checker: Malware Checker Dowload Link
A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started.
The trojan attachs through Java. If you don't have Java installed then you won't be affected. Java is not installed with Lion. -
What should I know about the Trustor Rapport malware protection update?
I received a message to allow update of something trustor rapport malware protection. I did not know if I had it or if I should allow it to update. Anyone know about this?
Trojan War
If you discover a trojan program is running on your computer then look to the following information for assistance:
1. A recent discussion on the Apple Support Communities: MacDefender Trojan.
2. An excellent site devoted to Mac Malware: Macintosh Virus Guide
3. Another site for removing MacDefende, et.al.: MAC Defender Rogue Anti-Virus analysis and Removal
4. A new removal utility - MacDefenderKiller
5. And to protect against a recent variant, MacGuard.
Before you delete anything, we need your help. Some AV folks in our community need to analyze these files in order to protect others. Before you delete anything please consider doing the following: Upload either the original .zip file or the MacGuard application to http://www.VirusTotal.com. If either is not detected by ClamXAV, then also upload it to http://cgi.clamav.net/sendvirus.cgi. If you are uncomfortable doing this for any reason and can determine the URL of the site where you got it please send the link to [email protected].
Removing strange software can be a task. The following outlines various ways of uninstalling software:
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a Startup item or a Log In item. Startup items are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the Delete [-] button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Note that you must have this software installed before you install software you may need to uninstall. Uninstallers won't work if you install them after the fact. Here is a selection:
AppZapper
Automaton
Hazel
CleanApp
Yank
SuperPop
Uninstaller
Spring Cleaning
Look for them and others at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on removing software and dealing with spyware and malware.
After removing all the components of the software you may have to restart the computer to fully disable the software. This will be the case when removing software that has installed a daemon. After the daemon has been removed you need to restart the computer to stop the daemon. Alternatively, you can kill the daemon process using the Terminal application or Activity Monitor.
That most likely is just a rename of the trojan known as MacDefender. Do not download it or allow it access to your computer. -

The browser's back button doesn't work for portlet navigation
I developed a simple portlet that uses webflow navigation to navigate within a
portlet. I made this portlet visible on a portal's home page. When I view my
main portal page, the URL is "http://localhost:7501/samplePortal/index.jsp "
In this page I can see my portlet. When I click on a link inside of the portlet,
it takes me to the page I want. Then, when I click the browser's back button
to go back to the previous page(main portal page), it doesn't work. The URL changes
back to "http://localhost:7501/samplePortal/index.jsp", but portlet itself doesn't
take me to the previous page. Anybody have any ideas? I am guessing it's because
the wfevent is null, but how do I resolve this problem?Hi Jay,
I was able to get the back button to work for portals by commenting out the following
lines in the portal.jsp:
// prevent caching these pages at clients.
// response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache"); // HTTP 1.1
// response.setHeader("Pragma", "no-cache"); // HTTP 1.0
// response.setDateHeader("Expires", 0); // prevents caching at proxy
I also made sure my browser was set to allow the caching of pages.
You are having problems, because we set the response headers to tell the browser
to not cache the portal pages, and the portlet state has not changed back to it's
original state.

When I open up firefox I get the alert:
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
When I click OK I get my home page (google), but nothing works: no web sites will open. I have downloaded the new version of firefox and carried out a defraggle without success. This solution worked for me:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Could+not+initialize+the+browser+security+component
The step that worked for me was to locate and delete the cert8.db file. -
What should I do about wifi issue if reseting SMC didn't work?
I tried reseting the SMC and the wifi connection issue still exists. I've tried just about everything, from disabling bluetooth on Terminal to reinstalling the wifi. Still having issues with Wifi dropping every 30 or 60 seconds. Does anyone know of any other possible fixes for a 2013 MBP, or at this point, am I just not going to be able to use my laptop until the next update? If there is no other fix, at the very least does anyone know when the next update will be released?
I've been using my Samsung GS5 exclusively to use the internet (which I don't mind because the internet is actually faster on that device). I still prefer the larger screen and the physical keyboard of my MBP over a slight speed boost, but I can't use my MBP for anything except for music (which doesn't matter anyway because I have an iPod) and iPhoto (which I don't use that often). I really hope a fix is coming, because my expensive MBP has been useless for nearly two months now...
One last thing. I made the mistake of not backing up my computer before switching to Yosemite. Lessons were definitely learned. However, is there any way I can upgrade to Mavericks? Or am I stuck with Yosemite because I am stupid and forgot to backup the computer?Lots of users have reported this issue its a bug with yosemite and apple are working on it. If its a huge issue to you I suggest downgrading to mavericks until the problem is resolved

i need help with water damage and problems with my iphone.
Do you have a backup of your contents? When the iPhone showed the screen with the USB cable and said to connect to iTunes, it had already entered the recovery mode which means all content had been erased. So you need a backup from before the water damage and problems started to get your contents back.

What should I do if the vibrate mode my phone isn't working?
It rings and plays music. The speakers are completely fine. I have both vibrate modes switched to on and I even tried changing the vibrate pattern, but it won't vibrate.
Reset iPhone. Restore iPhone. With CDMA iPhone the vibrate motor plugs (connects) directly to the logic board. Does the external mute switch work, gives screen notification when moved? Replace vibrate motor.
If there is Warranty or AppleCare Coverage make Genius appointment and take to Apple. -
My backspace/delete button doesn't work?
yeah, basically what the question says.. i can't backspace anything.
i have a macbook air that has os x version 10.8.3 if that helps.
i've restored everything keyboard wise already, and still nothing has worked.
i've updated my software and everything else you should do before asking what's wrong.
has this happened to anyone else? is there a solution? thanks! When several keys in a row don't work my first two thoughts are that the keyboard ribbon has come partially loose or that a small bit of something was spilled on the keyboard. In either case a trip to an Apple store or repair center is probably your next step.

The "View in iTunes" button doesn't work on Chrome
When I'm looking at an iTunes Preview of an album on the iTunes web version (not the program) and I click "View in iTunes" so I can go buy the album or look at the artist's other stuff in the program, nothing happens. There's no message, iTunes doesn't open up or anything. So I have to go to iTunes myself and manually search for and find the album I'm looking for each and every time..
It works fine on Firefox, just Chrome doesn't want to do it.
I've tried going to chrome://plugins/ and clicking "Always allowed" on the iTunes Application Dector box but nope, nothing.
WHAT'S THE FIX? APPLE PLS
#firstworldproblemsJust installed the iTunes update & now the same is happening to me. Until the update I had no problems with iTunes opening up when I clicked on "View in iTunes" buttons in Google Chrome. After reading the OP, I decided to try in Internet Explorer and it worked fine. Apparently, the update doesn't agree with Google Chrome. *sighs*

Doesn't matter how many times I click it. It just does nothing.
Do you have the Ask toolbar? If you do uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
If you do not have the Ask toolbar, check for another add-on that could be causing this, for details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes -
My backspace and delete button no longer work any ideas??
I have installed all new updates and of course my extended warrenty is done any one have this issue and see I just went to back space cause I did not care for the wat way the sentence was going but NOOOOOOooo backspace
You can restore it, however you would have to perform a complete erase and install of the HD. I would first try resetting your SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 as well as resetting your PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

I am stumpted. I transferred and have all my music in my iTunes folder on my new computer and I also have it on an external hard drive. I've added the new computer to the list of authorized computers and followed the "advanced" preferences options to select my iTunes folder and still nothing happens. No music, no playlists, NOTHING. The I am completely shocked that none, NONE of the apple support pages can help me. I have Windows 8.1. Please can someone help me. I cannot believe how hard this is.
