Two Facts & 4 Dimension

Hi,
My Requirement is like this :There are two facts F1 & F2 which shares two dimesions D1,D2. Fact F1 is linked to Dimesion D3 and Fact F2 is Linked to Dimension D4.
ie the total joins for F1 is D1,D2,D3 and For F2 it is D1,D2,D4.
There are two scenerio where i am not getting results ,
1)if i pick column from D3,F1,D1,D2,F2 -- column from fact F2 will be empty.
2)If i pick colum from D4,F2,D1,D2,F1 -Column from fact F1 will be empty.
Please advice as to how to proceed .
Thanks in advance.
John MV

Hi friend,
you need to create a map between dimensional shared tables and fact tables. For example, supose you have table D1 shared between F1 and F2, but D1 is physically joined with F1. To use D1 with using fields of F2 you must create map between D1 and F1 and other between F1 and F2. To achive this, go to sources of D1 table in BMML, in general tab press 'Add...' button, and create map between D1 and F1. Then Add another map between F1 and F2 fact tables.
Good luck.

  • Report based on two facts and dimensions

    Hello All,
I have a report that comes from two facts say F1 and F2. There are certain conformed dimensions, and certain non conformed dimensions.
Now say Product is a conformed dimension.
Now these fact tables are at a very detail level and have millions of records.
I need a report with F1,F2 and product. F1 can have data for certain products and F2 can have certain products. Now to get all the data without dropping any product... I have done outer join. This is causing performance issue. Is there any other way... that I can design to avoid this...
Also what happens to prompts... if i have product and some other dimensions which are confirmed. It would go to only certain fact... and not pull data when the product doesn't have data for fact F1 and has data for F2. Is there any solutions for this?
    Please help...
    thanks,
    deep

    Hi deep,
You have did it right way, giving outer join fetches you all records....there is no other way to get this details.
Let all records be fetched. But take a prompt on product,so when user selects a particular product only the data of that product details are fetched and there wont be any performance issues.
    hope helps you.
    Cheers,

  • Using two facts of two different star schemas and conformed dimensions

    Hi,
I've been working as developer and database designer for years and I'm new to Business Objects. Some people says you can not use two facts of two different star schemas in the same query because of conformed dimensions and loop problems in BO.
For example I have a CUSTOMER_SALE_fACT table containing customer_id and date_id as FK, and some other business metrics about sales. And there is another fact table CUSTOMER_CAMPAIGN_FACT which also contains customer_id and date_id as FK, and some  other business metrics about customer campaigns. SO I have two stars like below:
    DIM_TIME -- SALE_FACT -- DIM_CUSTOMER
    DIM_TIME -- CAMPAIGN_FACT -- DIM_CUSTOMER
Business metrics are loaded into fact tables and facts can be used together along conformed dimensions . This is one of the fundamentals of the dimensional modeling. Is it really impossible to use SALE_FACT and CAMPAIGN_FACT together? If the answer is No, what is the solution?
Saying "you cannot do that because of loops" is very interesting.
    Thank you..

When you join two facts together with a common dimension you have created what is called a "chasm trap" which leads to invalid results because of the way SQL is processed. The query rows are first retrieved and then aggregated. Since sales fact and campaign fact have no direct relationship, the rows coming from either side can end up as a product join.
Suppose a customer has 3 sales fact rows and 2 campaign fact rows. The result set will have six rows before any aggregation is performed. That would mean that sales measures are doubled and campaign measures are tripled.
You can report on them together, using multiple SQL passes, but you can't query them together. Does that distinction make sense?

  • One dimension and two fact report in OBIEE

    Dear All,
I have one dimension "region" and two facts (Sales value & Gross margin%). Gross margin% is logical column which has been derived from two other facts column and it's value is in range from Zero to 100.
Now, I want to generate below report. For each gross margin% range of 5%, I want to sum the sales value for each region. Please assist (Just a small snapshot of report)
    GM%     Region_1     Region_2
    <0     254      619
    0-0.05     524      799
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
Create Bins for Gross% fact column and go to pivot view place Gross% fact column into rows area, region column into columns section and sales value into measures section
    hope it works

  • Querying against two fact tables with non conformed dimension

I have two fact tables and I have this set up in RPD :
Fact1 joined to DimA and DimB
    Fact2 joined to DimA
On Front end I build two analysis:
    Analysis 1:
    DimA.A, Fact1.1, Fact2.2
    Analysis 2 :
    DimA.A, DimB.B, Fact1.1, Fact2.2
In the results of Analysis 1 , I am seeing correct values for Fact2.2
In the results of Analysis 2, I am seeing Fact2.2 as empty column. I think the reason is that Fact2 is not joined to DIMB.
Is it possible that I should be able to report against both dimension tables (DIMA and DIMB) columns for FACT1 and FACT2 measures.... Even though I don't have join between DIMB and FACT2.
    Any response would be helpful!!!

    Annu

    Hi,
Go to the LTS-- Content Level of the fact which does not have join with Dimension and put Total level for that Dimension and total level on Column(Measure also)(Double click --Levels)(Assume Dim Hierarchy is  already set up)
Pull everything(D1,D2,F1,F2) You will see results.
    Update Me

  • Need to pull the information from two facts and associated dimensions

HI All, i need to pull all the columns from the two Facts and their associated dimensions, get the results.
    here is the example:
    Fact1 --> D1, D2, D3
    FACT2--> DA, DB, DC, D1
D1 Dimension has a Join with two fact tables, as long as i'm using columns from D1 and FACT2, DA, DB, DC report works.
but my requirement is to get the results when pulling the columns from all the dimensions and two facts like Fact1, FACT2, D1, D2, D3, DA, DB, DC
how to achieve this requirement, can someone pls help me with this.
    your responses are much appreciated.
    Thanks
    rar

    Hi RAR,
I assume you have created proper dimensional hierarchies for all the dimensions in your subject area. Also, ensure that all of them have a Total Level created.
Assuming the above, since D1 is a conformed dimension, if you create a report having columns from only D1,Fact1 and Fact2, the report should show you proper results.
For creating a report having columns from all tables, ensure the following:
    1. For all measure columns from Fact1 to be included in the report, set them to be calculated at the Total Level of dimensions DA, DB and DC
    2. For all measure columns from Fact2 to be included in the report, set them to be calculated at the Total Level of dimensions D2 and D3
The physical sql will fire separate queries for the 2 star schemas and then join them using the conformed dimension.
    Hope this helps,
    Gaurav

  • Unable to join two fact tables via one common dimension in RPD(Repository)

I have created two fact tables F1 & F2 and one dimension D.
F1 is joined to D and F2 is also joined to D in Physical layer as well as in BMM layer.
I created one report in OBI Answers using these three tables. It Showed me the following error.

How to cope up with the issue or can anyone tell me the alternate workaround for this?

That is what i have tried.
I have made a logical table TEST and dragged two fact tables f1 & f2 in source.

  • One DIMENSION, Two FACT Tables - One WEEKLY grain, one DAILY grain

All the OBIEE gurus, thanks for checking out this post.
Background: We have a common DIMENSION referencing two FACT tables having different granularity.
    DIM = Customer Dim
    FACT = Forecasting (Weekly granularity)
    FACT = Sales (Daily granularity)
There is a need to report from the Customer Dimension table AND access the Forecasting FACT (weekly grain) & Sales FACT (daily grain).
Example of query is listed below:
Give me customer = 'ABC' and the forecast and sales for a specific time period.
What will be the best way to handle something like this? I have seen examples of handing multi-fact table access in OBIEE but the granularity of both the FACT tables is different (weekly vs. daily).
Any help with an example is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sunshine

  • Joining two fact tables with different dimensions into single logical table

    Hi Gurus,
I try to accomplish in Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.3.0:
    F1 (D1, D2 and D3)
    F2 (D1 and D2 and D4)
    And we want to build a report F1 F2 D1 D2 D3 D4 to have data for:
F1 that match only for D1-D2-D3
    and data for
    F2 that match only D1-D2-D4
all that in one row, so D3 and D4 are not common dimensions.
    I can only do:
    F3 (D1, D2)
    F4 (D1, D2 and D4)
    And report
F3 F4 D1,D2,D4 (all that in one row, and only D4 is not a common dimension)
Here is the very good example how to accomplish the scenario 1
    http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/08/joining-two-fact-tables-with-different.html
But looks like it does not work in 11.1.1.3.0
    I get
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail: [,,Clients,,Day,ROI,,,,EW_Names,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,]. (HY000)
I am sure I set up everything correctly as advised in the blog but it works with only one not a common dimension
Is it a bug in 11.1.1.3.0 or something?
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Thanks for all your replies.
Actually, I've tried the solutions you guys mentioned. Generally speaking, the result should be displayed. However, my scenario is a little bit tricky.
table Y's figures are not the aggregation of table X for D dimension. Instead, table Y's figures include not only D dimension total, but also others (others do not mean A, B, C dimension). For example, table Y stores all food's figure, while table X stores only drink's figure. D dimension is only about drink's detail. In my scenario, other foods' figure is not provided.
So, even if I set D dimension to all/total for table X, table X's result is still not the same as table Y.
Indeed, table Y does not have a column key to join to D dimension's key. So, if I select D dimension and table Y's measures at the same time in BI Answer, result returns no data. Hence, I can't compare table X and table Y's results with selection of D dimension.
Is there any solution to solve this problem?

  • Problem: two fact tables and one conformed dimension

    Hi everyone!
I need to solve this situation:
I have two fact tables, let's say F1 and F2, that are both linked to D1, my conformed dimension
I just need to select fields from D1 but I know that, when querying, OBIEE links it to a fact table anyway..how does it choose the fact table? That is, if I only want fields from D1, does the system queries also from F1 or F2? Is it a random choice?
Is there a way to "force" this choice, telling the system for example to choose only from F1?
Is there a workaround to solve this situation? Remember, I only need fields from D1.
    Thanks!!

The solution of your problem is "Implict Fact Column"
Go to presentation layer and double click on your subject area. then you will see Implict fact column option. click on set. give corresponding fact column there( in your case give F1 fact column)

  • Two FACT Tables, Some Common and Non-Common Dimensions

Hello all, a question i am sure you have faced in the past but still wanted to get your feedback.
I have a few FACT tables and some dimensions that are shared (common dimensions). Rest of the dimensions are related to one or the other FACT tables.
What is the best way to present a view where users can pull information from both the FACT tables?
I am successful in pulling the shared (common) dimensions across BOTH FACT tables having the same grain but this view breaks down when i pull information from one Dimension that has not much to do with the other FACT.
What is the best way to present this? Should this be broken in three subject areas?
Subject Area 1 --> Some Dims --> FACT Table A
Subject Area 2 --> Some Dims --> FACT Table B
    AND
Subject Area 3 --> ***Only Common Dims*** --> FACT Table A & FACT Table B?
    Your feedback is always appreciated.

  • Two fact tables with same dimensions

    Good Morning,
I am just assigned to a new project. This is my first maintenance request: two fact tables F1 and F2 that shares same set of dimemsion tables D1 and D2. In the Answers report, if I use a foreign key in either F1 or F2, for example F1.k1, I get an error of meta data inconsistency. But if I use same column from dimension table D1.k1, then no error.
Your help is very much appreciated.

  • Two Fact tables with Different set of Dimension Tables

    Here is my scenario:
I got two fact tables: X and Y (actually, they are the same tables, but with different level of data)
    and four dimension tables: A, B, C, D
    X joins relationship to all dimensions (A, B, C, D).
    Y joins relationship to only A, B, C, but no D.
When I select dimension A, B and C together with fact tables X and Y in BI Answer, result is displayed and compared.
However, if I select dimension D together with fact tables X and Y, only data from fact table X is displayed. There is no result displayed for fact table Y. I know that this is because fact table Y does not join to dimension D.
If the above relationship unchanged, how can I display both X and Y's result in BI Answer when dimension D is selected?

    Thanks for all your replies.

  • Confirmed Dimensions. OBIEE Not able to pull data from two fact tables.

    Hi Experts,
I have a very simple set up of Star Schema with two fact tables and 1 dimension. Both fact tables joined to the dimension at the same level.
When i pull a column from both fact tables and the dimension table in OBIEE, it has to create simple SQL like below:
    select FACT1.column1,
    Fact2.Column1,
    Dim.Column1
    from FACT1, FACT2, DIM
    where FACT1.ID = DIM.ID and FACT2.ID = DIM.ID
but instead it creating a query in a very complex way:
select case  when D1.c2 is not null then D1.c2 when D2.c2 is not null then D2.c2 end  as c2,
         D1.c1 as c3,
         D2.c1 as c4
    from
         (select FACT1.Column1 as c1,
                   DIM.Column1 as c2
              from
                   DIM T1287863,
                   FACT1 T1287945
       where  (DIM.ID = FACT1.ID)
           ) D1 full outer join (
            select FACT2.Column1 as c1,
                   DIM.Column1 as c2
              from
                   DIM,
                   FACT2
              where  ( DIM.ID = FACT2.ID)
         ) D2 On isnull(D1.c2 , '1') = isnull(D2.c2 , '1') and isnull(D1.c2 , '2') = isnull(D2.c2 , '2')
I even tried setting the levels for both the fact tables and it still creates the query in avove way. Any thoughts on this will be vary helpful.

  • Joining Two facts with one dimension

    hi,
Hello Experts,I am reporting out of 2 fact groups.
    Mailing History and Booking.
The only common dimension between the 2 is the Person Dimension. I have created the hierarchies and defined the aggregation content in the LTS.This helps me in reporting using any column from the Facts or any one dimension from either of the fact groups. But if i select 2 or more dimensions , one or more from each fact group , then the report gives and error. A general error has occurred. For Example : BookingDim--BookingFact-MailingHistoryFact (ok) MailingSourceDim--BookingFact-MailingHistoryFact works (ok) but BookingDim--BookingFact-MailingHistoryFact - MailingsourceDim (Fails ).
When i am applying the filter from the fact 1 . i am getting this error.(which is the column in the second fact table 2).I checked all the joins in the BMM layer.
    Please help me!!!
    Thanks,
    Surya

Surya did you set the levels properly for two fact tables and also for metrics.
When ever you are using two fact groups with non confirmed dimensions you have to make sure all the content levels set for the fact tables and as well as for metrics.
in your fact tables/ metrics - For related dimensions set the level to Detail. and for the non related dimension set the level to Total. This way obiee server will understand what is related dimension and whats not related..
    hope this works for you.
