Two remote users updating one site

Hi,
I have an iWeb site I've been managing on my own for the past couple of years, and I'd now like to bring another person on board to assist with blog posts and maintenance duties. Basically, I want two people, located on opposite sides of the country, to be able to work on the same site.
Basic solution seems to be:
- Copy domain file to my iDisk (coordinating "checkouts" of the domain file)
- Person making changes copies the domain file to their local Mac
- Changes are published
- Domain file is copied back to the iDisk
Simple enough, but I have a couple of questions and concerns...
iDisk is s-l-o-w and my domain file is rather large, so I'm anticipating that even simple changes are going to be incredibly painful. Is there a more efficient way to share the domain file? (Apart from, of course, sending a USB stick back and forth via the US mail...)
I have a .mac account and password, while my associate does not. Is there a way to setup my site such that we could use a shared account that would not involve sharing email, sync, etc? i.e. I want us both to be able to publish to the same site, but I don't want to share the email account.
Thanks or any suggestions!
John

If there was such possibility, you would be able to do what you want. But there isn't such possibility.

  • Trying to create two login areas for one site

I'm currently creating two different login areas for the site. One for my client to update content and one as a media/press area for downloads. Both areas work fine but it seems I can only do one login area because even if I use a different Connection script, one login area overtakes the other and you
're stuck with one setup instead of two. How can I work this so each area has its' own separate login area?

Instead of having two login forms, have one login form and utilize the user level controls. You will need to go to the login settings page and set/use the Level field on the database tab and then configure the user levels on the user levels tab.
You simply route users to different subdirectories and then secure the files for those two user directories using different user level permissions.
This removes the needs to maintain multiple connection files.
That said, do your two different login forms have different names? Different ids? Different targets/actions?

  • Two ipod users on one computer

Does anyone have any info on how to set up different iTunes for two different users? My wife and I both now have nanos, and very different tastes in music. How best to handle? Two different iTunes on one computer? Thoughts?

The best way to have completely different iTunes libraries would be to set up separate accounts in Windows for each of you. That way you can each maintain completely separate music libraries.
If you just want to have different sets of music on your iPods, set them either for manual updating or to update only selected playlists, then keep individual playlists for each of your iPods.

  • Which is better?    Two Oracle user in one instance OR  in two instances?

    Which is better?
I could not find any benchmark for number of instances per user
    in the same machine.
suppose that you have two major Oracle user, from performance
point of view it is better to make separate instances in same
machine or keep these two users in the same instance.

    Hi.
I understand that you will use oracle for two different
    applications on the same host.
Each instance has its SGA and background processes. So, using
two different schemas(users) in one instance you can share
phisical memory between the applications. Concerning background
processes, you can start as many of them as you wish, so it's
not a problem. If you decided that one DBW is not enough, you
could configure oracle to use two or more.

  • How can i prevent my user in one site about financial report in other sites

    Hi
we implement our project in 4 sites via Citrix and all of users works on head office database, we used Document Series to divide evey site financial/inventory/procurement transaction . for example one site's JE number  start 1 to 1000000 and other site start form 1000001 to 2000000 . but we see all user can see financial report like TRial balance, General ledger for other site but selecting in extend option in report without viewing them in detail. How we can make constrain for this issue, I mean user in other site cannot see other JE in General ledger report by selecting  documnet series in Extend option.
    thansk

    1) In your case, you assign Group (in Document Numbering>>>Series Set up) for each site.
    For example:
    Site 1: Group 1
    Site 2: Group 2
    2) Then, go to Authorization >>> General Authorization >>> Administration >>> System Initialization >>> Numbering series. Now, you grant full authorization in Series - Group No. x for site users.
    For example:
    Site 1 ' user:
Series - Group No. 1: Full authorization
Series - Group No. 2: No authorization
    Site 2 ' user:
Series - Group No. 1: No authorization
Series - Group No. 2: Full authorization
    Hope this help,

  • How do you merge two different users on one computer?

I created a user account on my computer, then when I used Migration Assistant to transfer some of the files off my old computer onto my new MacBook Air it transferred them into a new user account.  How do I merge the two different users? They are both me.

You can't "merge" users, you have to transfer the files using intermediate steps to deal with Permissions issues.
You found out first hand that you should use Setup Assistant, rather than Migration Assistant to perform the action that is now causing trouble, and time.
    1) Log in to the A account.
    2) Locate all the files you want to move. Move them to /Users/A/Public. Note: Don't move any System-created top-level folders, like Documents, Pictures, Music, Movies, etc. Just move their contents.
    3) Log in to the B account.
    4) Navigate with Finder to /Users/A/Public. Drag the files to the Desktop. This will make new copies of them that will have the correct permissions for User B.
    5) Put the new copies of the files away in the appropriate places in B's home folder.
    6) Delete the A user account if it is no longer needed.
Doing it this way will ensure that there are no permissions headaches with the files after they are moved.
Also, make sure that you BACK UP all of your data before starting.
Credit: to user Kiraly for the process.

  • Managing two iTunes users on one computer - a complicated scenario.

Here's my situation: I have two users/accounts on my computer. Each user wants access to all the media (music, podcasts, etc) on the computer.
However, there are a few specific constraints:
    1) Each user's instance of iTunes should only display the media they want it to display (for example, if they don't want a certain song, they can remove it from their iTunes library, but it would still exist for the other user).
    2) Star ratings, play counts, and other sort-of meta data must be unique for each user (for example, if user one assigns 5 stars to a particular song, that won't affect user two who only gave it 1 star).
    3) If one user deletes media from their library it won't suddenly disappear from the other's library because the file has been deleted.
    4) No duplicate copies of any given media file (for example, if both users like a particular song, there would not be two actual copies of that song's file laying around - each user's library would reference the same file).
    5) No unused media files (for example, if neither user wants a particular song, the actual file would be deleted and would not just sit there unused eating up space).
I hope that makes sense. Any ideas?

I'm not worried about downloads from the iTunes music store (yet)... I'm primarily concerned with existing music. I tried following Apple's instructions for sharing music:
    a) I moved both account's media folders to a shared location.
    b) Then, using "Add to library" I added the contents of each media folder to the other's iTunes Library. At this point both users had access to all music, and star ratings/play counts were unique for each user.
    c) If user A didn't like a song from user B's collection, and removed it from the library, it still appeared in user B's library. And vice versa. Great!
    d) If user A didn't like a song from his own collection, and removed it from the library, it still appeared in user B's collection so long as user A didn't also trash the actual file. Great!
That left me with two problems: First, duplicate copies of song files. This wasn't a big deal because I could slowly weed them out - but still kinda annoying. And second, unused (by either user) copies of song still had their files there taking up space. This was problematic as I couldn't figure out a way to find these files and trash them.
I figured surely there was a better solution - be it how to handle the above problem, or a completely different method of setting things up to begin with.

  • Help with two ipod users on one computer???

Ok heres a quick rundown of the problem. My girlfriend and i both have ipod minis and i am having difficulty getting I tunes to work for me. Her I tunes works fine for her I pod, but when i try to add music files to my ipod using her I tunes, it keeps telling me that my ipod is attached to another music library, then it asks me if i want to erase the music on the ipod and download her music. I thought that maybe i was doing something wrong so i decided to install my copy of itunes to remedy the problem. I tried to install my ipods i tune disc onto the computer, everything looks like it installs well but for some reason its seems as though you can't have two versions of itunes on one computer. Can someone help me? Is there an easy way to fix this?

OH good lord! Go into your start up menu and find Tour Windows XP and it will show you how. OR GO into your Control Panel, click on USER ACCOUNTS and go from there...its not rocket science, trust me

  • Two different users.  One Time Machine Backup?

I have two user profiles on my iMac. I'm just wondering if Time Machine backs up both profiles when I'm logged into one or do I have back up each profile individually?
    Thanks.

It will backup virtually the whole contents of your internal hard disk, so no worries. That's whether you are logged into a specific user account or not.
    Cheers!

  • Two Ipod users on one home computer

If two Ipod Touch users use the same computer, how do you set things up so that my contents are not loaded automatically into his Ipod and his are not loaded into mine? I didn't anticipate this when I bought my Ipod so perhaps there was something I should have done in the initial setup. Thanks for your help!

    Hello Cosiena,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways to manage multiple iPods with one computer. For more information on these different methods and how to accomplish each, see this Apple support document.

  • Two iTunes users on one computer

I just purchased a new computer to share with my partner. We both have our own iTunes accounts on our old computers that we are getting rid of. How would we both be able to use iTunes to sync our music and still have our own accounts?

Is there any way that you know of to do this by using one user account?

  • What is the best practice for setting up and migrating two notebook users on one desktop

My wife and I have just purchased a desktop iMac and would like to migrate our 2 notebooks to it.  I plan to use the Migration Application to achieve this.  I am trying to gather information on the best ways to establish a main music library merging ours together, multiple photo libraries keeping ours apart and maintaining unique user log ins.  I'm sure alot of this stuff is may appear to be pretty straight forward setting up multiple users and all, yet we individually have never established multiple users on our personal notebooks, so there will be some bit of learning.  Any advice on the hang ups or tricks users have encountered would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Step one would be to the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and migrate your account, apps, and settings from your machine, using the Setup Assistant on first boot. Then, use the Migration Assistant to migrate your wife's account to the machine. That should carry over her photos and music. Merging those libraries should be detailed in the respective help files for iTunes and iPhoto. I don't share anything and only have one account, so I can't help with those details.

  • IPhoto '09: Two Facebook users on one machine

    Hello,
My wife and I each have a Facebook account. When I want to upload pictures on my Facebook page, I get an error message saying iPhoto cannot connect to the social network. This happens afer a session where my wife added pictures in her own Facebook account. Then, I have to reenter my Fb username and password in iPhoto.
When my wife wants to upload pics to Facebook, she has to deal with the same situation.
Is there something we're not doing the right way? Can't we just provide both accounts' details in iPhoto and live a happier life???
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply.
I'm sure there would be a better way to ask an user to provide the necessary authentication information, instead of the actual error message...
Maybe someday Apple will consider the fact that more than one member of a family can use a computer and online services.
But I appreciate the reply. Thanks

  • Remote users of one Skype account

    Hi.
I have a Skype account and have just added 2 new members to my team who will be working from home. Can I give them access to use my buisness Skype account to make calls form their own PCs in their own home or do I need to setup a new account with calls subscription for each of them on thier own machine?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi, Language Angels, and welcome to the Community,
I would strongly urge a review the Terms of Use and Fair Usage policies prior to proceeding:  http://www.skype.com/en/legal/
Allowing multiple people to use one account is not only mentioned in the Terms of Use as not allowed, but could also find the account suspended as an anti-fraud measure.  Best to create new accounts and add the needed subscriptions and/or credit.   You might also research if Skype Manager would be useful:  http://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-manager/
    Best regards,
    Elaine
