Typefaces within Web Content

I'm guessing the majority of us using DPS are print designers. I'm trying to add a little HTML flavour to my magazine. So I've created some web content that functions like a mag page and in Dreameaver I've created some files that look like the pages in my magazine but behave dynamically. It's all good, my web content overlays work and publish correct on my tablet however becasue my CSS rules contain the local typefaces of the magazine (Benton, Amplitude etc) they do not publish at all. They render in times or something. :(  Dreamweaver is becoming familiar but I am a mear beginner.  So I'm hoping someone who is a little more web savy can tell me how to embed these faces into my HTML file that render correctly once published.  Best regards  YC

dear YC
it is possible add fonts to your HTML with the @font-face CSS rule and into
webfonts converted typefaces.
there is a popular fontface generator by font squirrel.
when using commercial fonts as webfonts on the web you need to check if the
licence of the webfont allows embedding (many from big type foundries need a
special licence)
this licence allows you to publicly embedd fonts on public webpages.
including webfonts in HTML stacks is technically the same for public web.
however, you HTML in the magazine could not be considered as "public" wich
would not necessary require a licence but that has to be checked.

  • Add Copy/Image Above/Within Web Content Overlay?

I'm attempting to add a 'this page requires an internet connection' line either within or above a web content overlay but can't get it to show up if there is no internet connection (aka the main point).  I'm basically trying to achieve the following from National Geographic:
Any ideas on how to accomplish that within DPS?

You may program local HTML file, that will check connection and either will display the 'this page requires an internet connection' message or will redirect user to the server's page. Then point to it from "URL or File" field for the Web Content overlay, so it will be saved inside the folio and will be available if no internet connection.

  • "Java Runtime Environment" pop up +  "Safari web Content" within force quit menu - two issues that won't go away and might be related?

    Hello Guys.
I have this Java pop up for several weeks now and no amount of restarting my Mac will make it go away. Also, when I go to my force quit menu, it insists I have this "safari web content" running, and I have no idea what it is. They might be related, I"m not sure,  but how do I make them both go away?
The java pop up prompts me to install java (and I already have installed it, multiple times, so no use there).

Oh my gosh. okay here we go.  I do see the "Facebook video calling" plug in you spoke about. I know what the silverlight plugin is (that's for an exam I needed a while back but I don't think that's the problem). What should I do now? I can't thank you enough.

  • App store icon gone missing/Web Content Filter - Apple Configurator

I am using Apple Configurator to manage the iPads at my school. I changed the settings on my school's profile, within Apple Configurator, so that the App store was not available. The App store icon disappeared and all was good. I decided to change the settings back, to allow the App store, saved the settings and refreshed a group of iPads. The App store icon is still missing and it doesn't appear that my new settings have been applied. I quit Configurator and tried again, but no success. I am running Configurator 1.5 and the ipads are running iOS 7.1.
Also, I have unchecked the "Allow use of You Tube" button because I want You Tube disabled, but Configurator still allows the use of You Tube through Safari. Is there any way to disable the use of You Tube without using the ridiculous "Web Content Filter", that when activated, limits adult content (good), which seems to include a lot of valuable educational sites (bad)? To me the only other option available seems to be to tick "Specific Websites Only" and spend the next year typing in all the possible sites that might have educational merit, ergo, my use of the word 'ridiculous'. Is there something I am missing?

Locate it in the Apps folder and drag it to the dock.

  • Out of alignment web content created in FW CS6

    Hello everyone
I have designed an entire web page in Fireworks CS6, sliced up individual components of the page and exported them as HTML and image. The page displays in Chrome and Firefox beautifully but not in IE9. In IE9, some web content appears out of alingment exposing light blue spacers as below:

Excellent. The use of ‘border: none’ in the CSS is a good solution and has been recommended previously in this forum.
As far as HTML5, it isn't natively supported in Fireworks CS6. You could easily replace the DOCTYPE or other metadata within the head of the document by hand, after exporting the HTML; on the other hand, I'm not sure the body of the document really merits it—it's pretty ‘old school’ and possibly contains deprecated features.
This reminds of a thread where a user wanted to edit the HTML Export template:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4733175
I don't know if they followed through with this or not. It'd be fun to experiment with, but not without backing up all the relevant application files first.
It might instructive for you to try building Fireworks files to be exported as HTML and CSS (choosing ‘CSS and Images’ in the Export dialog), instead of using table-based layouts. This seems possibly more significant than the use of an HTML5 doctype.

  • Cannot find the Web Content repository in test system under KM Content

    Hi Experts,
We have implemented Web Page Composer in our development landscape. I have created a web page with the required content in the development and now wish to transport this web page and its content to our test system.
However when I navigate to Content Administration -> KM Content, inside the root directory I am not able to find the Web Content repository within which all WPC content resides.
I want to know what configuration has to be done in the test system so that the Web Content repository becomes available within KM Content.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi,
I just want a confirmation on whether I will have to deploy the .SCA file for Web Page Composer in my test and production systems to be able to use the web pages I have created in the development environment.

  • Safari Web Content consuming all my memory

I'm having a problem with Safari Web Content.
I've jst re-loaded Mountain Lion in a brute forcve attempt to resolve my issue, but it's still occurring.
The issue is:  with very little running, if I run Safari and bounce around a few websites, I can easily consume all my memory.  I end up with this:
As you see, Active memory is too high (before this test I had Mail open, and Avtive memory was about 2GBm what you might expect normally).
Actibve memory had actually peaked at about 3/4 of the total, but then some must have got swapped out to Inactive.....giving us the picture above.
But look at the Real Mem occupied by Safai Web Content!  That can't be right, surely.
Nevertheless, I'm led to believe that OSX's memory management algorithm's will swap out Inactive for Free when it is required....well, this isn't happening.  I saw Free memory down to 7MB at one point, not a typo.  Everything grinds to a halt.
If I am patient, and try to Quit Safari, I end up back here:
Clearly showing that if I manage to kill Safari, the memory gets freed up again.
I understand why OSX wants to handle memory with the Inactive concept - "you've just closed Word, but maybe you'll open it again in the next ten minutes so we'll leave it in memory, inactive, so when you try and open it, it will open really quickly".  Right now, I'd rather turn that freature off and have memory behave more primitively and take the hit on re-opening.
As I mentioned, I reloaded OSX Mountain Lion and the problem persists.  When you re-load or upgrade your OS, there are many configuration settings (desktop, mail, safari) that are kept so that the upgrade looks seamless;  clearly whatever is corrupting me here has been kept also.  For that reason I'm loathe to go to Mavericks, because I presume the same corruption would exist (and also I hear Mavericks is still a bit shaky with the native Mail app).
What config type files should I look to safely delete and have the OS rebuild?  Any ideas?

OK, so I tried a Safe Boot.  It wired 5GB of memory, and for a while I thought what was left would behave itself, but within about 10 minutes I consumed everything again.
    Here's the before:
And here's 10 minutes later, after bouncing around a few websites:
I also tried firing up Safari, going to Facebook, and letting it sit for a while.  No effect.
So, the problem occurs when visiting multiple sites - memory isn't getting released properly.
I think I'm left with a move to Mavericks.

  • Were is the correct place for web content public_html or iWeb Folder?

Apologise but this is a bit of a long problem description.
I have been using iWeb for about 9 months to create web sites, i have no html training so the iweb approach suits me fine, when you create an iweb site it automatically creates a folder, using the Site name, in public_html all web content is placed inside this folder. and as i understand it the index_html file in public_html redirects access to the home page within the site name folder.
This has been working fine for me for some time until about 2 days ago, when my Google Webmaster tools account showed totally wrong set of Keywords for the site. I have been using iWebSEO Tools to manage the keywords etc.....
The new set of key words have come from the index_html page at public_html and according to feedback from the Google Webmaster Forum they say placing web content inside a folder in public_html is not a good idea.
If this is correct how do i force iWeb not to create the Site name folder?
    Thanks
    John

If this is correct how do i force iWeb not to create the Site name folder?
You don't force iWeb. To command iWeb you have to obey it. The Ancients already knew that.
Here's my solution : [Avoiding the iWeb Sitename in the URL|http://www.wyodor.net/blog/archives/2010/01/entry_299.html]
The pages are relocated but the concept still works.
    Practice.

  • Autoplay on page load doesn't work in Web content overlays

I would like an audio file to play in a web content overlay and can't manage to make it play automatically when page loads. Because of different complications I can use neither the html-stack nor the audio overlay in Indesign. When I test the html file used in the web content overlay in safari on my computer it works but not inside the app.
I have also set the frame with the web content in  indesign to "autoplay" in the overlay creator. This makes the audioplayer in the web content overlay visible on the page, but you still have to push the play button to start the music.
Has anybody had the same problem and solved it?

Apple does not allow autoplay within HTML, to avoid high data costs. There
might be a workaround using javascript, but you need to search for it.

  • Suppression of nav bars (chrome) in web-content overlays

We've started to experiment with creating interactive content within folios, using web content overlays and HTML5/AJAX.
Problem is the nav bars/chrome (whatever you want to call them) in Adobe Viewer pop up constantly, and unpredictably - for instance, the chrome will appear the *first* time an HTML button is clicked, but not on subsequent occasions. For other <div> elements that have onclick handlers attached, the nav always seems to appear.
Does anyone have any insight into possible ways of suppressing the nav bars completely for web-content user interaction? Judging by the behaviour of HTML buttons, it seems there has been some effort put into this on Adobe's part, but some concrete insight would be brilliant.
    Cheers,
    David (Boto Media).

I have already come across these "solutions".
I am on v27 and have been since its release.
I have tried method number one.  It partially works however it is buggy.  When the overlay initially loads, it flashes the Twitter URL before showing the feed in the overlay frame on the article.  Additionally, it sometimes flashes back and forth from the Twitter Feed's URL and displaying the feed itself.  This, for me is not a wholly valid solution but it will do for now since the only thing that remotely works. I suspect the URL flash has alot to do with the network connectivity of the device one is viewing the feed on.  However, to flash that URL before the feed loads makes the overlay appear buggy.
And the second method most definitely crashes ID ever single time I attempt to preview the overlay either on desktop or iPad.  And I have tried this method on several different machines, thinking it was my copy of ID.  It still crashes upon preview, so mehtod two is not a valid solution at all, unless there is something special that needs to be in the HTML file (besides the twitter widget) for it to not crash ID, that I am unaware of.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Web Content overlay crashing! Help?

Everytime I try to use the Web Content overlay, InDesign CS 5.5 crashes. Working in Mac OS 10.6.8, for what it's worth.
I have a local html file that should display an RSS feed. When I try to bring it into my InDesign file with the Web Content overlay, everything seems fine until I try to save or preview; that's when InDesign spins and spins and spins until it crashes. I've tried much simpler html (just a black box that should appear on the screen) just to test, but it still won't work.
    Here are my steps:
    1. Create local html file and test in browser. No problems.
    2. Within InDesign document, create bounding box to exact size or larger of what the html file will take up. No problems.
    3. Using the Web Content overlay, choose my local html file to go in the box. Autoplay on. No problems.
    4. Preview or save. CRASH.
Am I doing something wrong? Is anyone else having this issue? Help?

I have been getting exactly the same thing happening. I worked on this months ago and gave up eventually.
I tried again yesterday and after a few crashes I got this to work. Not sure exactly what fixed it as I tried many things but here is a rundown. I did get multiple crashes but persisted this time.
I made a new document to house my animation, it was 200 x 400 pixels (size does not matter as long as its consistent - see further on).
I created the animation in Indesign CS 5.5 and tested. Once I was happy I exported the FLA into a folder. Not sure if this helped in any way but I moved the Indesign doc into the same folder.
I used Wallaby to point to the FLA and converted it into HTML5 and saved all the elements into the same folder. I dropped the .html onto the browser and it worked fine.
I then drew a frame in my Indesign doc exactly the same size as previous, ie 200 x 400 pixels (again not sure if this had any effect on fixing the issue but it worked for me). I used overlay creator/web content to point to the .html file. I saved the folio and uploaded it to DPS.
When I checked this on the iPad it works fine.
Again, not sure how or what exactly fixed this but it works.
Could just be that the more you try it the less it crashes and eventually works. :-s
    Hope this helps.

  • Web content overlay - always "on top"?

    Hi
In my Indesign DPS doc, I have a top later with content and a second bottom layer with some html 5 animation showing within a web content overlay box.
Everything previews well, except the overlay content always seems to be "on top".  guess this makes semse since it is really just a "web window" but I thought I would ask since it will impact my designs moving forward...
    Thank you-
    S

Overlays always rise to the top, which is why they're called overlays. If you want to cover part of an overlay, you need to use another overlay. A common approach is to create a 2-state MSO with two identical images and auto play set to 1.

  • Web Content Overlay-Youtube Error

    Hi All,
I want to avoid folio bloat by using the Web Content Overlay linked to an HTML page with a Youtube embed link. Works like a charm on my iPad 2 except for something strange that happens if I tap outside the boundry of the HTML window/viewport. The video will play underneath the viewport at larger size beyond the iPad boundries.
The video window is 1280 x 720, the video from Youtube is 1280 x 720.
I have not defined a folio, just a single InDesign doc I am testing within.
I am using an HTML 5 doc with correct syntax that is being imported.
The behavior is consistent and I can repeat the same "error".
    I am using InDesign 5.5
    D.

Figured it out! totally by mistake, there had been an object that was pasted into the file that was filled with a PMS color. Once I converted that PMS color to an RGB process color that took care of the script error.
    weird!

  • Configurator not saving changes (Web Content)

    Hi.
    I am new to configurator.
I have applied a base profile (many different settings) together with a separate profile for restricted websites.
The base filter's 'Web Content Filter' is not set.
The 'TwinsWebFilter' only has one payload ...the Web Content Filter.
    I have two issues.
    1. I can limit to Specific Websites. I add http://www.bbc.co.uk to the list and apply. This seems to filter all sites except the BBC (good) AND Apple.com. It does not seem to block Apple.com even though it is not in the whitelist. How do I block it? How do I know what other sites have not been blocked?
    2. When I double click on the policy within the 'supervise' panel, it opens for editing. I click on the 'Web Content Fillter' and it shows that it is back to 'Limit Adult Content' ... even though I had saved it as specific websites only. When I choose the 'specific' option, I see the site (BBC) that I has already added. I am obviously concerned that when the iPad is refreshed next time, it will be refreshed to the 'adult' section without my knowing. Are there any other profile setting that may conflict with my choice of 'Specific sites only'?
    Thanks.

    HI Lee,
I am facing the same issue.
Were U able to resolve this Or any work around ?

  • Does Flash Player only work with web content?

Thought I'd better start a new thread on this, as my previous
    question has shifted emphasis.
Does the free Flash Player download only provide Flash
capability within the web browser? Or can it play local SWFs? If
not, do I need the whole Flash product to just play?

    > Does the free Flash Player download only provide Flash

    yes, yes, and no
YES: The player you download is the activex control and
    Netscape plug-in
that browsers use .. not a separate program. So yes it is
    effectively for
    use in the browser only.
YES: You can fire local SWFs using it by opening them within
    your browser.
It is only for web content.
NO: You do not need a stand-alone flash player (that comes
    with the Flash
product) to view SWF content (local or on the web)
