U410 and Rapid Drive

HI All,
New owner of a u410 laptop that has the 32g ssd + 1tb HD
I removed he intel fast rebootspartition and installed win7 on the SSD.
I followed the instructions that have been posted here many times on how to use rapid drive software to combine the drives in a way that everything looks like its on the C:
It has not worked for me. Everything is on Disk 0 but there is a sepearte C and D drive. I also get an error in disk management.
Attached is the image of the error that pops up when I enter disk management as well as what my partitions look like after running rapid drive setup.
Can anyone help??

Rapid drive has been setup in your computer and it is absolutely fine. This is how the drives look exactly after setting up rapid drive.

Rapid Drive: What does it do?

I'm interested in getting an mSATA SSD for my T420 and installing Lenovo Rapid Drive. The only thing that is holding me back is that I don't understand what Rapid Drive does, which makes me uncomfortable with proceeding. The only information related to Rapid Drive that I can find anywhere online is marketing spiel. Can someone at Lenovo clarify what exactly it is that Rapid Drive does?
1) Does the SSD serve as a cache, keeping copies of certain data that are also stored on the HDD? Or, does Rapid Drive move data between the SDD and HDD without maintaining copies?
2) At what granularity does Rapid Drive operate? Are only entire files moved between the SDD and HDD? Or, may a file be split into chunks, some of which residing on the SDD and some of which residing on the HDD?
3) How does Rapid Drive decide what data to keep on the SDD? Does it take a heuristic approach optimized for the average user? Or, does it use a least-recently-used algorithm that should work fairly well for anyone regardless of usage patterns?
4) How frequently is data shuffled between the SDD and HDD?
I'm sure that answering these questions will result in many more people trying out Rapid Drive as I've seen a similar sentiment to mine echoed on other forums.

Lenovo’s RapidDrive is basically
the combination of a solid-state drive and a normal 2.5-inch hard
drive, but in separate components. To users the two will look like a
single disk, but the drives will be able to take advantage of the
performance of the SSD while maintaining the capacity of the mechanical
disk.
Your machine will have your standard hard disk drive plus for example a 32GB or 64GB SSD installed in the internal PCI-E slot. The breakthrough is not combining the two in one system. Anyone can do that. The breakthrough is using a Lenovo patent-pending technology that connects both the SSD and HDD simultaneously as one big, contiguous drive. This storage is dynamically pooled and managed. The system manages the SSD depending on usage. Programs, documents, and other files are dynamically moved on and off of the SSD so that you can always get the fastest speed possible. This also means that the system will not return an error if the SSD is already at full capacity. The program/file will automatically be installed on the HDD and moved to the SSD later in the background if the algorithm determines that is optimal.

Memory modules and hard drive not recognized

I removed and reinserted the factory installed Satellite L505D-LS5007 laptop hard drive and memory modules just as practice for installing a hard drive upgrade and an 8GB memory upgrade. The problem is obviously with the memory and not with the hard drive.
After the first practice try, one memory module was recognized. Also for a few seconds after the first practice try, I ran the PC with the battery installed, but no memory installed. I did not look in the User's Guide first to see that I should have removed the battery before removing the memory.
Now the System Indicator Lights for the HDD Activity and Memory Card Reader do not light up. The PC turns on and the display is solid black with no messages.
Before buying new memory modules, what possible ways might there be to get the PC to recognize the factory installed memory modules and hard drive again?

When troubleshooting, I always change one variable at a time. I would hate to miss a solution by being in a hurry. In this case, you may have damaged either the RAM or the RAM slot. I would stick with the Toshiba specifications for the RAM, making sure it is the correct size, speed and type recommended. I also recommend that when you replace the RAM that both modules be from the same manufacturer, size, and specification. Try one RAM module in one slot and then the other. And then try both RAM modules in both slots. After the testing you should be able to figure if this is a RAM problem or a RAM slot problem.
In the case of hard drives, the real test is whether or not the Bios sees the hard drive. If the Bios doesn't see the hard drive, it's not going to work. The Bios should see the hard drive whether or not the hard drive is partitioned, formatted or has data on it. My experience has been that many Toshiba laptops will work fine with larger capacity hard drives provided they are the same speed in RPMs, have the same interfacing connection and physically the same size.
Again, prior to doing any work on your computer, make sure that both the AC power has been disconnected and the battery has been removed. Be careful out there. A blown repair job by a non-Toshiba tech is NOT covered under warranty.

I am novice in hardware stuff. I am planning on doing it entirely by myself and on tight budget will need to compare the prices across sellers and buy a suitable peice of kit. Please help

Is your external hard drive formatted for Mac? To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Put the new drive in your MacBook, then format and partition the new drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer your OS back to the new drive.

You can upgrade from HDD to SSD drive, but will not recommend it as it will void the warranty on the unit.
Pertaining to bluray drive, you might have some compatibility issues unless you find the right model.

At some point in time, you may have selected the option to prevent that dialog from appearing again when trying to delete tracks from your library. To reset all of iTunes warning dialogs, click the Edit drop down menu and choose Preferences from the list (on a Mac it is *iTunes -> Preferences* ). When the window pops up, head over to the Advanced tab and click the *Reset Warnings* button. Then quit iTunes and relaunch it. That do the trick for you?

There is something incompatible would be my guess. Did you disconnect all your peripherals in safe mode just to check?
You might now create a new temporary user account. Log into the new account. Do the panics still occur?
I would also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. Sometimes they can be difficult to track down. Looking at each new panic log would help determine if it's cause is associated with the same extensions.

Time Machine, Mozy and external drives? Somehow I lost 300GB of data! :(

I have 2 external 500 GB hard drives. One a USB drive used for Time Machine, the other a firewire 800 drive I use for HD video/iMovie files and editing. I also have Mozy (online backup service) installed and running in the background. Not sure what updates I have been running, but about 2 weeks ago I would start getting the spinning color wheel or "spinning beach ball of death" where the mouse pointer/curser would not return. All I could do to recover was hold the iMac power button dow to issue a hard reset. After several occurrences of this event I started yanking my peripheral devices and it seemed to be caused by one if not both external hard drives. 'Cause when I unhooked them, the busy curser went away. Anyway, after this happened for a few days then my external hard drives started randomly un-mounting. Eventually the firewire drive would never remount. WelI, I yank the drive out of the case it was in and put it in another case thinking maybe the external case has gone bad... the strange thing, I could still see the drive in "System Profiler" but it would never mount, even did a PRAM reset. Anyway, I got it in another case, USB only, and it showed up in "Disk Utility" but when I checked it, is said the file structure was bad and couldn't be repaired. So I had to reformat it. Now I'm trying to download 300GB from Mozy because the DVD option from them (Mozy) will cost over $200 (this is what they are charging for the DVD retrieval option)... BTW, the free download retrieval option keeps bombing out on me too, so now I'm not sure I will ever get my files back. Oh well... does anyone have a clue what may have happened here so I don't get in this predicament again... we can start with me not screwing things up but beyond that? Oh, I did hot plug the USB and firewire drives and got warnings about un-mounting first, but with a spinning color wheel I could not do anything like that. Sorry this is partially a vent post. This makes me disappointed in Apple and/or Mozy. This was my first Apple computer purchase and had hoped for something more robust. I can get this same treatment with a PC... at least with a PC I am a little better prepare, I expect this to happen. Anyway I'm done, for now.

I'm sorry to hear about all your troubles!
In the future, if you have an issue that occurs twice or more in a short period of time, you need to start looking at what's going wrong so you can keep things safe.
With regard to those external drives:
You may want to invest in the application Disk Warrior; it can repair many errors that Disk Utility isn't able to touch.
Odds are what happened is you thoroughly corrupted the directories on the drives by yanking the USB cords instead of ejecting them properly. If the directory is corrupted, it's no easy task to get the data saved!
A few questions about the drives:
1) What are the brand names?
2) Have you used these drives with other machines in the past?
3) Do the drives have their own power supplies?
4) Were they connected directly to the iMac?
Some questions about your computer:
1) Have any other peripherals caused you troubles?
2) How large of a hard drive does the computer have & how much space is free?
3) How old is the iMac?
4) Do you have the original install discs?
Lots of questions, but the answers should be helpful.

I have a fairly new (purchased 8/2013) Lenovo ThinkPad T431s with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (updated from 8.0 -> 8.1). It has a very tricky error coming basically 8 / 10 boots:

Error details from Windows Event Viewer (a new similar error appears on every boot to event viewer):
A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume \?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984}.
A file on the volume is no longer reachable from its parent directory. The parent file reference number is 0x2000000000002. The name of the parent directory is "". The parent index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION". The file reference
number of the file that needs to be reconnected is 0x400000003db80. There may be additional files on the volume that also need to be reconnected to this parent directory.
What has been done 1st trying to fix that:
SSD disk has been changed (image from previous SSD copied back) ->
no solution, error remains
chkdsk /F /R -> no solution, error remains
SFC /scannow -> no solution, error remains
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth -> no solution, error remains after a few boots
TRIED using Windows 8.1 "Update & Recovery -> Refresh Your PC without affecting your files" -> Inserted the Lenovo "Operating System Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)" BUT Windows did not accept
that DVD claiming "The media inserted is not valid"... ???
Ended up calling Lenovo Support and they instructed me to order the Recovery DVD from
Lenovorecovery.com -> Unfortunatelly Windows does not recognice the DVD(s)...

3) Why do I have three (3) recovery partitions?

What has happened in the past days:
A) Lenovo on-site-Support changed the motherboard -> had no impact on the error (which I expected).
B) I found
instructions how to manually create USB Flash stick with a booting Custom (OEM) Recovery Image.
C) Booted with USB and performed "Refresh your PC without affecting your files."
D) Windows was refreshed but...

Now Lenovo support is proposing a full re-install (to be performed by myself) of Windows as this is SW issue.
Summary:
- Refreshing my T431s with OEM Image does not help
- The error remains on \?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984} (\Device\HarddiskVolume5; Lenovo Recovery partition) OR at least Windows thinks so...

My Macbook Pro has a black screen when running in Bootcamp Windows 7. Since I updated the mac side my windows side now starts up with completely black screen - no prompt, nothing, Cap keys still light up as does mouse and DVD drive seems to run.

I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.

Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick. I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally. I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again. I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time. Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black. I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]

you can but there may be some issues and a lot of files will be saved to your c drive, anyway.
