Uable to read imagfile with speacial character in its NAME;from a linux box

Hi, i am facing a problem in reading a image file( file name having special character {Gstehaus}) from Linux file system.[FileNotFoundException]
I compiled my code in windows machine and run the same in Linux box.
The same file, i am able to read from a windows file system.
I think there is no problem with Linux box encoding/decoding as the file name displaying as-is.
I am expecting the problem in encoding/decoding between Java and Linux box.
Help me in solving this issue.

Hi Corlettk, thanks for your immediate reply.The actual problem is with special characters [some Greek and Spanish accent characters ].
Please find some file names example below:
Gstehaus 1__154714_1157620584197.jpg
Gstehaus 2__154714_1157619047514.jpg
like this i have many...
Thanks,

  • Read Document in FileUtilities  cannot search a file with french character in the file name

    Hi,
    I am trying to search a file with french character in the file name like 'captures écran.doc' in my unix server directory, and Write the file somewhere, say in a list of documents or, write on file system to another directory.
    I am using to Read Document in FileUtilities of Foundation, but it cannot read the file due to french character in its name. Although it can find any other file name without these french characters.
    Tried renaming but that also cannot find the file with french character name.
    Please provide any idea to solve it using LC operation.
    Regards,
    Rohan Raj.

    Hi Thomas,
    Thanks for the post, but I have already found a solution to it a month ago. Sorry for not posting the solution.
    You just have to set the '-Djava.property.file.encoding=ISO8859-1' into JVM argument of your server startup, and bounce the server back to pick the new JVM arg set. And now the service Read Document in FileUtilities of Foundation will read all french characters.
    ISO8859-1refers to "Latin alphabet no. 1," consisting of 191 characters from the Latin script. This character-encoding scheme is used throughout The Americas,Western Europe, Oceania, and much of Africa. It is also commonly used in most standard romanizations of East-Asian languages.

  • Problem in dealing with special-character filename

    Hi,
    I am facing a weird problem while dealing with a file which has a special character in its name. That character is the big-hyphen, i.e. '–' (not the normal hyphen we can type from keyboard), you would have seen this character in MS Word.
    My java program is running on HP-UX OS, and its basically trying to copy this file to a Windows target system through socket. But while executing it, I am getting Broken Pipe Exception.
    I am applying UTF-8 encoding while running my program (by specifying the argument "-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8" in the java process), and I am also confirming that the file-encoding is being applied to UTF-8 properly by putting a debug in the beginning of the program. My understanding is UTF-8 supports all the characters exist in this world.
    Any suggestion / pointers would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rajiv

    Fine..... but is there any way to know which encoding has been applied on it ..
    Let's say if you create any file on unix-based system in any application, which encoding gets applied there by default ?
    This file is basically nothing but an html page created using 'Save As' from the browser.
    The person who has created the file is a non-technical .. and won't know much about this all stuff... encoding etc.

  • URGENT Problem with Greek Character from an Oracle database

    Hello, I am having a serious and urgent problem with the character settings of an oracle database (8.1.7). The database is sitting in a solaris unix server and when we run the env command we have the following in the NLS_LANG parameter: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 (I do not know if this is helpful). When I retrieve data from oracle database (through a VB.NET 2005 program)to a dataset I use a special font in order to see the greek characters (HELLASARIAL). But when I am trying to save these data to a TXT file the greek characters are like Chinese to us. I tried several encodings (System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding(869)) but without success. Can someone tell me how to convert the oracle greek characters during the selection or during the saving to the TXT file?
    Please respond as fast as you can.
    Thanks in advance

    Here is the answer of the microsoft:
    I have the information that you have a VB.Net 2005 application connected to an Oracle database 8.1.7.4 hosted on a UNIX server.
    This database has the CharacterSet WE8ISO8859P1.
    When retrieving Greek characters from this database in the application, you cannot see them.
    Could you please send me a screenshot of these characters in the .Net application?
    Are they displayed as gibberish, or as inverted questions marks (?)?
    I already had similar cases with Hebrew characters hosted on an Oracle database.
    These characters were displayed as questions marks on the client side.
    This is due to the fact that System.Data.OracleClient is using the Server CharacterSet to display the characters.
    If your Greek characters are not stored in the WE8ISO8859P1 characterset, then they won’t display correctly on the client-side.
    This is different from OLEDB where you could interact on client side by modifying the NLS_LANG parameter in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0.
    The client NLS_LANG and the server CharacterSet had to match in order to correctly display the data, and avoid SQL*NET conversion.
    So there are two solutions to your case:
    - The first one is to create a new database using the P8 characterset. The Oracle .Net managed provider will so be able to use it and display the characters correctly.
    - The second one is to use the OLEDB.Net managed provider, and then use OLEDB for Oracle provider. OLEDB will take care of the client NLS_LANG registry parameter.
    Would it be possible to test your application against an Oracle database with WE8ISO8859P8 characterset?
    Would it be possible to test it with the OLEDB .Net managed provider, and after checking the NLS_LANG client registry parameter?

    Hi ,
    as per my knowledge.....................
    When you create a WSDL with the help of a wizard. In the Integration Directory, choose Tools -> Define Web Service to enter the wizard.
    On Propose URL button, as this genertated URL default Point to Entegration Engine.. SO already proformance wise Good.
    If You want to Point your URL to adapter engine , use below given URL this will point ur incoming soap  message to SOAPadapter sender channel
    http://<host>:<j2ee-port>/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=:<service>:<channel>.

  • Problem with a character in an external table

    I have Unix Sun OS 5.8
    I received 1 file with data. The problem is that this file has a character ' ' in the end file then the charge has an error. The character in the end file is in hexadecimal: 0A, 1A.
    Then I have an External table and I put the the clause LOAD WHEN (COMARC != ' ') but when I edit the external table I see LOAD WHEN (COMARC != '.').
    And the last record with the ' ' character doesn’t filter.
    Note: the character isn't a space ' '. It is the hexadecimal: 0A, 1A
    What I have to put in the LOAD WHEN (COMARC != '??????????') to filter this character?

    I put LOAD WHEN (COMARC != x'0A1A') but I receive the error:

    I want to create material master starting with special character eg #1234  but system gives a error message as

    What special character do you want?
    your special character is probably beyond ZZZZZ in the numenclature of characters.
    enter you special character instead of the Zs in the number range definition and try again.

  • Migrating from 8.1.7 to 9.2 with different character set

    Are there going to be issues when I try to migrate from 8.1.7 to 9.2 where the character set in the 8i database was the default western european to utf8 in 9i?
    I ran the 8i scan utility to see if there would be issues importing into an 8i db with a different char set and it said that there would.

    Hi Jim,
    As your first step, I would recommend reading the white paper Character Set Migration Best Practices for Oracle9i on the Globalization Support Home page - http://otn.oracle.com/tech/globalization/index.html
    Since you mentioned that CSSCAN has already reported there are potential issues (I guess you have exceptional/Lossy data ?), I would strongly recommend splitting up the UTF8 character set change and the database version upgrade into 2 distant phrases. Probably moving to UTF8 in 8.1.7 first, then upgrading to 9.2 later.
    BTW, there is a separate Globlization Support and NLS discussion forum on OTN for further discussion on character set related issues.

  • Drawing this shape 'x' wide and with 'y' character, according to input

    I need to draw a diamond shape with the character in which the user enters. It also has to be as thick as the user enters. So it would with $ and 5 spaces long it would be something like:
      $
    $$$
    $$$$$
    $$$
      $Ican get the input and all that stuff correctly. And I figured on using a for statement to print the characters. But I cannot figure out how to put it all together with the correct spacing and correct number of characters on each line. What I have is basically:
    tnumber= (number-((number/2)-1));
    for(int i=0; i < tnumber;i++)
         System.out.print(" ");
    System.out.println(character);

    hmm I have this now, except it only works for the width of 5, because thats the number I was testing as I wrote the program. Now it only works for 5, lol - How can I fix it:
    //Begin displaying the graphic
                   tempnumber = (number-((number/2)+1));
                   for(int i=0; i < tempnumber;i++)
                        System.out.print(" ");

                        System.out.print(character);
                   System.out.println();          //Line Break
                   tempnumber = (number-((number/2)+3));
