  • Jar file error: could not find main class. program will exit

    I have created a jar file using following command
    jar cfm MyProj.jar Manifest.txt richa\*.class
    and I have included main class header in the Manifest.txt. The executable jar file is created but when I double click on it, it prompts an error Could not find the main class. program will exit.
    Please help. Its urgent..
    Thanks in advance

    This simply state that jvm was unable to fine Main Class file.
    I hope you have configured manifest file including your main file information and class path used by the project with proper package hierarchy,
    as described in article

  • Jar file could not find main class.. I cant see why?

    I have read loads of tutorials on this and it should be very straight forward but i STILL cant make a working jar file of my program.. please see if you can see anything wrong with what im doing..
    my program is one .java file that compiles perfectly, and is runnable both through eclipse and by using the command prompt.. i made a jar file using both eclipse and the command prompt, and neither worked.. every time i run it by double clicking it i get the error "could not find main class, program will exit". here is the contents of my jar:
    CorePackage\IPEmailer.class
    CorePackage\IPEmailer$1.class
    CorePackage\IPEmailer$SMTPAuthenticator.class
    META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
    the MANIFEST.MF file contains:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Class-path: .
    Created-By: 1.6.0_02 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
    Main-Class: CorePackage.IPEmailer
    (yes there is a blank line at the end)
    the class mentioned in 'Main-Class' has a main method that looks like this:
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        new IPEmailer();
    }the program uses 2 external jar files:
    activation.jar
    mail.jar
    and reads a file called:
    ipemailer.ini
    and writes a file called:
    ip.txt
    the program has no GUI and is intended to run 'silently' in the background
    please help me understand what is wrong with this

  • Error: "Could not find the main class: Files\NetBeans"

    I am working on a WorldWind mapping application but I think this issue is more of a straight Java question. I was attempting to add a web service reference by means of the NetBeans IDE. The reference compiled as it should have but then the application would not run. I deleted the reference, commented out all the code that used the web reference, basically restored all the code to how it was before trying to add the web service. The applicaiton still will not run with the message that it can't find the main class. I do, however, get a clean build. What should I do to fix this?
    Here is the error: "Could not find the main class: Files\NetBeans"
    thanks!

    thanks!Sounds like something (a .cmd file or .bat file, perhaps) is set up to launch NetBeans with a command line like this:
    java -classpath ... c:\Program Files\NetBeans ...
    So since the path has embedded space(s) in it, it thinks you are wanting to run a class named "Files\NetBeans", which does not exist.
    You need someone there who knows what they are doing to look into it for you.

  • Error: Could not find or load main class

    Hello everyone!
    I have decided to finally start learning Java and am currently, and slowly, making my way through the tutorials. I am only on chapter 2 in the class section. While reading I came uponJava Tutorials Sample Code and wanted to try and compile it in netbeans. This is the code that it contained:
    class BicycleDemo {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            // Create two different
            // Bicycle objects
            Bicycle bike1 = new Bicycle();
            Bicycle bike2 = new Bicycle();
            // Invoke methods on
            // those objects
            bike1.changeCadence(50);
            bike1.speedUp(10);
            bike1.changeGear(2);
            bike1.printStates();
            bike2.changeCadence(50);
            bike2.speedUp(10);
            bike2.changeGear(2);
            bike2.changeCadence(40);
            bike2.speedUp(10);
            bike2.changeGear(3);
            bike2.printStates();
    I did the following in order:
    1) New project
    2) Select Java under Categories and Java Application under Projects
    3) I type BicycleDemo in the Project Name Field and click finish
    4) I delete all the template code and paste the above code into the field
    5) I click run and get the following error:
    run:
    Error: Could not find or load main class bicycledemo.BicycleDemo
    Java Result: 1
    BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 0 seconds)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Thanks for posting ALL of the info - most posters don't do that and it makes it hard to help them.
    Your exception shows it is looking for 'bicycledemo.BicycleDemo' so the 'BicycleDemo' class is expected to be in a package named 'bicycledemo'. The code you posted and the code at the link does NOT use a package statement.
    When you create a new project in NetBeans it will AUTOMATICALLY add a package name to the start of a new class file. So, unknown to you, it created a package named 'bicycledemo' and put the class file in it.
    In step #4 you deleted the template code (which had a 'package bicycledemo' statement in it) and replaced it with the tutorial code.
    Likely you didn't notice the package statement in the template before you deleted the template code.
    package bicycledemo
    .Add that package statement as the first line of the class source code.
    You should generally ALWAYS put your code in a package. For some reasons many of the tutorials do NOT do that.

  • Could not find Main Class while executing JAR

    Hello all,
    I am having a simple Jar file that contains one java class that merely displays a window. I am using NetBeans IDE to create the JAR file. When i execute this JAR file by double clicking on the file, it works fine on the machine. However, if i try to execute this same file on any other windows computer, it gives an error "Could not find the main class. Program will exit."
    In other words, the JAR file is only working on the computer that has NetBeans and JDK installed on. Not on any other machine. Although the other machines have the JAVA Virtual Machine installed.
    I would appreciated any help on this topic.

    I had the same problem (i.e. Message-Box with "Could not find the main class. Program will exit.")
    After insuring that the manifest contained a Main-Class: argument and that the argument pointed to the right class, I started the jar via java -jar myjar.jar and read the stacktrace, which is much better than the popup-window.
    In my case the error was, that the Main-Class could not be loaded due to another referenced class, which was not on the classpath. (i.e. it was not in the same jar-File and the manifest didn't include a Class-Path: argument.)
    After adding the correct Class-Path: argument in the manifest, the problem went away.
    I now have the following setup:
    myjar.jar and somethirdparty.jar in the same directory.
    myjar.jar contains a manifest which includes the lines
    Class-Path: somethirdparty.jar
    Main-Class: my.package.and.MainClassafter the normal Manifest-header.

  • JAR: - Could not find main class

    I'm sorry, I know this issue has been posted before but I am a bit confused with my situation.
    After making a jar on my computer, I run it, and the program loads and runs perfectly.
    However, when I try the jar on someone else's computer, it doesn't work, and gives the "could not find main class" message. The other computer has JRE but not JDK, so I don't know if that makes a difference.
    Anyways, my main class file is located in a package called hw2, and the whole project is located in a folder called HW2. So my class file is located in something like C:\School\HW2\hw2\Main.class.
    My Manifest.txt file is located in the \School\HW2 directory and has the following with a new line at the end:
    Main-Class: hw2.Main
    At the command prompt, I go to my C:\School\HW2 directory and I type the following to create the jar:
    jar cvmf Manifest.txt test.jar hw2\*.class
    My jar file has the following contents:
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    hw2/Bank.class
    hw2/GUIInterface.class
    hw2/Main.class
    Did I write the manifest.txt file correctly? Am I in the right directory when creating the jar file? Am I executing the jar command wrong? How come it works on my computer but not on someone else's?

    Are you certain you're executing the jar in the same way on both machines?
    For example, are you sure you're not executing the unjarred class files when you run on your local machine?

    Getting the error " [java] Problem invoking WLST - java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find the OffLine WLST class " while building the O2A 2.1.0 PIP. I am using the Design Studio 4.3.2 for building the O2A 2.1.0 PIP. Please let me know how to resolve this issue. Here I am enclosing the log file .

    We have basically the same issue when we try to create the interpreter using the embedded method..
    I was able to use the interpreter embedded in a java client as long as the weblogic jars were located in a weblogic install if I tried to use them from a maven repository no luck at all...
    All of this worked easily in 9.2 now in 10.3 it seems more error prone and less documented.
    I have seen close to a 100 posts on issues related to this so is there a document which outlines specifics....
    We / I have used weblogic now for almost 10 years and moving from 8.1 to 9.2 was painful and we expected the move from 9.2 to 10.3 not to be soo bad but its proving to be as painful if not more painful than moving to 9.2. We seem to spend a good bit of our time working around issues in the next new release that were not in the previous one..
    Any help would be appreciated I think we will open a support case but even that is more painful...
    Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    PS: We confirmed that all jars in the startweblogic classpath were in the startup. The server we have the embedded wlst instance is a managed server and we are using the component in a war... Are there any restrictions which we are unaware of.
    Error we get is
    1 [ERROR] com.tfn.autex.order.weblogic.QueueMaintenanceUtility.addQueue():217 Error Adding Queue wowsers JNDI Name wowsers Exception: Invocation Target exception while getting the WLSTOffLineScript path

    k.m

    Never mind, I see that you intended to include b.h, c.h, and d.h in all.h.
    Many compilers do not look at template code until the code is instantiated. This code consists only of declarations, with little that can be instantiated. It's possible that other compilers would also complain about this code if they got to the point of processing all the template declarations.
    Can you add some instantiations along with template definitions and a main function so that the code can be compiled and linked?

    There isn't new doc, because the workflow didn't change.  It works pretty
    much the same as Flex3.  There is no s:Module or s:ModuleLoader so you
    continue to use the mx versions as you did before.
    The styles mechanism did change so that each module has its own styles and
    now is sensitive to a common mistake in setting up modules projects.  Folks
    accidentally reference the module class directly from within the main
    application instead of using a shared interface.  Doing so actually links in
    the module and its dependencies into the main app, defeating the main point
    of modules, but in Flex 4, that configuration also throws errors.
    Another change in Flex 4 is that the main app must load singletons shared by
    modules.  That is the result of optimizing startup a bit by not linking in
    every manager you might possibly need.   This means that if your app doesn't
    use popups and your modules do, you must link the PopUpManager into the mai
    app by doing:
    Import mx.managers.PopUpManager; PopUpManager;
    It is also possible that there is a bug.  Simplify your scenario and file a
    bug or post the test case if the simple case also fails.  Maybe you've got
    some other configuration we didn't anticipate.

  • Could not find the OffLine WLST class (WL 10.3)

    Hi,
    I am confused about this scenario, please help me.
    I keep getting the below when I run the wlst.sh script.
    Problem invoking WLST - java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find the OffLine WLST class
    So what I did was add weblogic.jar to the classpath in the script. But I still get the same error. However, if I run it from the command line without the -D option, I no longer get that error, but get one about abother missing class.
    Here is my wlst.sh
    # cat wlst.sh
    #!/bin/sh
    # set up WL_HOME, the root directory of your WebLogic installation
    WL_HOME="/exec/products/weblogic/v10.3/bea/wlserver_10.3"
    # set up common environment
    . "${WL_HOME}/server/bin/setWLSEnv.sh"
    CLASSPATH="${CLASSPATH}:${WL_HOME}/common/eval/pointbase/lib/pbembedded57.jar:${WL_HOME}/common/eval/pointbase/lib/pbtools57.jar:${WL_HOME}/common/eval/pointbase/lib/pbclient57.jar:${WL_HOME}/server/lib/weblogic.jar"
    echo
    echo CLASSPATH=${CLASSPATH}
    "${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java" -Dprod.props.file=${WL_HOME}/.product.properties weblogic.WLST $*and here is the properties file it is using
    # cat ${WL_HOME}/.product.properties

    BEAHOME=/exec/products/weblogic/v10.3/bea
    WL_HOME=/exec/products/weblogic/v10.3/bea/wlserver_10.3So to sum up, when after adding weblogic.jar to the classpath, I still get the same error if I run the script where it uses the properties file.
    However, if I run it without using the properties file, then I get
    # java weblogic.WLST
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: weblogic.descriptor.DescriptorClassLoader
            at weblogic.WLST.main(WLST.java:19)

            ... 1 moreSo any ideas on how to get this working would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    If you need access to WebLogic container code on top of WLST scripting API such as the scenario where a plain SE Java class needs to call a remote method on a Stateless/Stateful session bean for example - I find it is easier to include the generated wlfullclient.jar - just don't use this jar in an application managed servlet context.
    For non-EE/ejb/web contexts (SE) use wlfullclient.jar generated from
    $WLS_INSTALL\wlserver_10.3\server\lib>java -jar wljarbuilder.jarThen run your client with the above jar in the classpath like
    java -cp .;wls/wlfullclient.jar org.eclipse.persistence.example.distributed.Clientthank you

  • Java Virtual Machine "Could not find main method"  what do i do?

    Hi I'm very new to java and for my class we are to make an applet and make a class. I figured out how to do it but the Java Virtual Machine gives me an error when I go to run the applet."Could not find the main method. Program Will exit!" . I am using Jbuilder8 personal to compile the code. Using j2sdk1.4.0_03. Could someone tell me how to fix this? Or what I'm doing wrong?
    Here is my code.

  • Error: Could not find compiled resource bundle 'components' for locale 'en_US'

    We are porting a fairly large body of Flex3 code developed under FlexBuilder 3 to Flex4 under FlashBuilder 4.  Most of the conversion appears to be working fine, with one exception.  When I launch the Flex4 version, all my data interchanges with the server works.  Just as it is about to show the UI, the following error occurs:
         Error: Could not find compiled resource bundle 'components' for locale 'en_US'
    I am actually using a locale of fr_FR, but I assume it couldn't find that, reverted to en_US, failed again and then barfed.  If I look in
         ~Adobe Flash Builder 4\sdks\4.0.0\frameworks\locale\fr_FR
    I see a lot of swc files, and of course no 'components.swc'.  I believe the problem is that our Flex3 code is using mx components, and the compatibility mode is not properly handling it for some reason.  I think this is mostly from our in-house UI library.  The properties for that library (and for my main app I am testing now) have:
         - Use default SDK (currently "Flex 4.0")
         - Use Flex 3 compability mode
         - Use minimum version (Flash Player) required by the Flex SDK
         - Enable strict type checking
         - Enable warnings
    I also tried putting the compatibility flag in the mxmlc compile line, with no change in behavior.  This project is built by the following script:
    ruby scripts/concat_properties.rb -o resources.properties ^
         src/main/flex/locale/fr_common/res_myname_fr_common.properties ^
         src/main/flex/locale/fr_common/scout/res_myname_scout_fr_common.properties ^
         src/main/flex/locale/fr_fr/res_myname_fr_fr.properties ^
         ../../scout/common/src/locale/fr_common/mypals/resources.properties
    mxmlc -locale=fr_FR -source-path=. ^
         -compatibility-version=3.0.0. ^
         -static-rsls=true ^
         -include-resource-bundles=resources ^
         -output src/main/resources/bundles/mypals/fr_fr_resources.swf
    copy src\main\resources\bundles\mypals\fr_fr_resources.swf ^
         bin-debug\bundles\mypals
    What have I missed???

    You have two posts. I will try to answer each completely.  Second one first. You say I should change my build to include the framework resources.  I am afraid I am not sure which and what to do there.  We combine all our properties file into one large one, then use the following build line:
    mxmlc -locale=fr_FR,en_US -source-path=. ^
         -compatibility-version=3.0.0. ^
         -static-rsls=true ^
         -include-resource-bundles=resources ^
         -output src/main/resources/bundles/mypals/fr_fr_resources.swf
    I am assuming you are telling me to change the "-include-resource-bundles" line, but what to add?  The "sdks\4.0.0\frameworks\locale\en_US" holds 13 swf files.  I tried adding that entire folder (along with the fr_FR folder) to the project library path (in the project properties dialog), but that made no change.  I also tried reverting the library path tab back to "MX Only" instead of "MX + Spark", but again no change.
    ====================
    For your first message, I did a search for 'spark' in the entire project.  It only existed on 3 lines, each at the start of css files:
        @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
    I had put those in based on reading needed changes to naming in CSS.  Since I was not actually using any spark ('s') components yet, I removed these lines.  The entire project now does not have the word 'spark' anywhere in it. No change in behavior (as I expected).
    I did a search for "s:" throughout the project.  That does exist in probably 100 places, but all are legitimate. Things like (xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml") or variable names ("var matches:Object").  No reference to any s: object.  (While on the topic, why does FlashBuilder still not have a "whole word" box to limit searches??).
    Note that when I first reported this problem, the compiler was set to ONLY support fr_FR.  In fighting this, I changed it to "en_US,fr_FR" hoping that would tell the compiler to load whatever en_US items it was looking for.  We really do not want any English support in this version. (We do have another SWF created with only support for en_US, and another for en_UK, etc.  Each language is a separate node on our server, so there is no need to mix & match at runtime)
    The console shows a lot of swf loads that I do not understand...
    The console output shows (my comments after ==> indicator)
    [SWF] C:\ConnectedProducts\common-web\myname\bin-debug\myname.swf - 2,229,992 bytes after decompression
