Unable to create a jar

Hi everyone,
I m trying to create a jar file for classes that are Animal.class and Dog.class
both in C:\project\classes
along with manifest.txt that says Main-Class: Dog
so in CMD,
C:\project\classes>jar -cvmf manifest.txt Dapp.jar Dog.class
but, I get this exception
java.io.FileNotFoundException: manifest.txt (The system cannot find the file spe
cified)

Try to not use .txt extension for the manifest file, ie rename the manifest file to something say manifest.mf and then run jar -cvmf manifest.mf Dapp.jar Dog.class
I found that some jar versions in windows don't like the .txt or .xml extensions for the manifest file. Not any should like it. The file is supposed to be named MANIFEST.MF. And it has nothing to do with Windows either, its all part of the Java runtime. But it seems to me that the "jar" command should take whatever file you provide as the manifest and put it into the jar under the name of MANIFEST.MF. I don't think it's a requirement that you have to call the file that -- I'm pretty sure that the docs don't say any such thing.

              System.out.println("i am EXECUTABLE JAR ");

    Main-Class: JarTest
used jar cmf JarTest.mf exe.jar *.classIt created a jar file but i can't Execute the file
    Help me
    Thanks
    AE

java is choosy about the actual manifest file format (line ending, trailing empty line, whatever).
This works for me with your example:
    posman@proli:~/ivan/aa> cat mf
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: JarTest
    posman@proli:~/ivan/aa> od -cx mf

It seems that error is caused because OSB is unable to create temporary jar file in /tmp/alsbTempJars. I looked for path and actually directory alsbTempJars is not present on disk. I had already created that directory in the past so I can't figure why it has been deleted.
Also I saw some out of disk space error in logs although I checked that it is at least 1Gb free at OSB mount point.
We've realized of this problem when checking logs after we got an error working with OSB web console.
To solve this error I had to create alsbTempJars directory and restart the node. Then error stopped and processing continued normaly. I think node activity was interrupted during error as I only see stack traces in log file.
OSB runs in a Linux machine with user Oracle that is also owner of alsbTempJars directory.
Hope someone could help us with this.
    Regards,
    Daniel.

In case /tmp directory is automatically deleted, is it possible to configure a custom directory for alsbTempJars dir in OSB to assure it is never deleted?Add the -Djava.io.tmpdir=newTempDir parameter in the JAVA_PROPERTIES section of the setDomainEnv.sh script. This new location should be outside of the /tmp dir to avoid being cleared by any process.
I think best soultion would be to have alsbTempJars automatically created whenever /tmp is purged.Doing it on the fly may not be possible however you may anytime raise an enhancement request with support and if prod dev approves it, you may get a fix.
    Regards,
    Anuj

I using tomcat4.0.2,but when I start the tomcat from %catalina_home%/bin using startup.bat, in the startup console printing "error unable to create jar cache in /tmp directory: java.io.IOException: System cant find the direct", and tomcat can be started, no problem when I access my web application.
    Why it happened?
But if I start tomcat from startup menu of the system instead of using startup.bat, no error is thrown.

anyone know it? Please tell me.
    I was puzzled about it.

Your jar is perfectly generated, but your machine has a problem with .jar file associations.
    You have two options:
    1. Play with the registry. Dangereous if you are not used to.
    2. Reinstall the jre.
Just to verify my theory, open a command prompt and the command:
    reg query HKCR\jarfile\shell\open\command
What does it say? I have executed your command , here is the output
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jarfile\shell\open\command
(Default)    REG_SZ    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*I am not getting anything from this command, can you please explain clearly.
    thanks & regards

  • Unable to create JAR in eclipse

    Hello everyone,
I am using eclipse 3.2 . I am new to eclipse.
I created a swing application which uses an external jar file.
I added the external jar file in ProjectProperties-->JavaBuildPath-->Add JARs..
The external jar file is inside the project folder. I created the jar file
for my project. While double clicking the jar file it shows an error, "Could
not find the main class.Program will exit". I had specified the main class
while creating the jar file. The Jdk version is 1.4.2 . The project works
fine in eclipse. Is this the correct way to import the external jar file ?
Please help me to solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

this is not even a Java question, let alone a Swing one
but to point you in the right direction, you seem to not have a MANIFEST.MF file in your jar. dig up a tutorial on Ant, and write the Ant script to generate the jar for you: it's not difficult, and you'll get a much greater understanding of how these matters are arranged

    Hi,
I have gone through your code and the problem is that when you create jar it takes a complete path address (which is called using getAbsolutePath ) (when you extract you see the path; C:\..\...\..\ )
You need to truncate this complete path and take only the path address where your files are stored and the problem must be solved.

  • Creating a JAR using JDIC  PROBLEMS in creating a JAR!!!

    Hi
I am trying to work with JDIC APIs in my Java application. I wish to open a browser on clicking a button in my application which uses Java Swing.
I included the location of the JDIC.jar in my class_path under environmental variables in Windows.
However, despite that I am having to compile using the classpath option with javac.
After compiling using javac, I again have to run it using java and the classpath option.
I am now trying to create a jar of my application including the JDIC.jar as well.
However I am unable to do this successfully.
Since this is my first time working with a 3rd party API orher than the standard Java API, I am stumbling about and would GREATLY appreciate some guidance

    Hi
    Thanks a lot!
    I got SOME response!!!
    Well okie..
I have the JDIC library at C:\jdic-0.9.1-bin-cross-platform
    with the jar at C:\jdic-0.9.1-bin-cross-platform\jdic.jar
    My application is at
    C:\VDApp
    The packagename is GeneViewer
So I am doing the following
    C:\VDApp> javac -classpath DOT; C:\jdic-.....\jdic.jar GeneViewer\MainClass.java
    C:\VDApp>java -classpath DOT;c:\jdic.....\jdic.jar GeneViewer.MainClass
I am trying to create a jar as follows
    C:VDApp> jar cmf manifest.mf GeneViewer.jar GeneViewer C:\jdic...\jdic.jar
The manifest.mf file contains 1 line
    Main-Class: GeneViewer.MainClass
Although the jar file is created successfully, when I try to run it, it doesnt run properly. It throws that error message. cannot find /org/etc etc...
All those hierarchy exist only in C:\jdic-0.9.1-crossplatform....
    Please guide me further
    Thanks

    Cause: AccessGate instance creation failed.
Action: See the Identity Asserter/Authenticator log for details.
    Level: 1
    Type: ERROR
    Impact: Configuration
This seems to indication my identity assertion is incorrect. My oam authentication provider is pretty simple.
I am using OPEN transport security so the provider config is pretty simple. I provided an AccessGate pwd, primary and secondary access gate servers and Access Gate name provided by my administrator.
I'm not sure about what the Application Domain field refers to. Can someone provide guidance on that?

Embedded OC4J startup time: 29125 ms.

I did what Manu suggested with no success. Alternatively, I registered the driver jar with embedded OC4J preferences > global > libraries. Still does not work. Please, note, that when I run JUnit tests against my BC4J application modules with JDBC URL as connection type, everything works just fine. The problem comes while running the JSF application when the application module is using JDBC DataSource as connection type.

The problem here seems to be that the .ENV file that you are using - e.g. Default.env does not have the correct classpath set so webutil cannot find the webutil.jar. Please refer to the Webutil doc to set this classpath up.

  • Unable to create Java Fact in JDeveloper

I'm unable to create a Java Facts for all of the classes I need to in a JDeveloper project. When I create the java fact I can see that the classpath shows my projects .../target/classes/ directory. In the classes panel I can see all my classes. However when I select classes to add as facts I do not get all the classes I selected. I do not get an error either. I have attempted to analyze the differences between classes that successfully get added as facts and those that simply do not get added as facts when selected but I can't find a method to the madness. I have done this successfully with simple "hello world" type example but when trying to expand to a larger corporate code base the wheels fall off.
    I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4, Windows 7, JDK 1.6 update 21.

I think this has to do with not having facts for all the dependent java classes in the dictionary already. I need to better understand the proper way to build dictionaries in a modular way. I don't think the "User's Guide for Oracle Business Rules" is detailed enough.
    I'll try to explain.
Project A - has some base classes, interfaces and abstract classes
Project B - has some base classes, interfaces and abstract classes
Project C - uses project A (implements interfaces, extends classes etc.)
Project D - uses project D (implements interfaces, extends classes etc.)
    Project E - uses projects A, B, C & D
When I build a dictionary for Project A it appears OK, same with Project B
When I build a dictionary for project C I like the dictionary from Project A.
When I build a dictionary for project D I like the dictionary from Project B.
When I build a dictionary for project E it appears I have to link dictionaries for projects A, B, C & D but I end up with the original problem I posted on.
I just took a class X from Project E with dependencies on projects A, B, C & D (by dependencies I mean used objects in any way, inheritance, method arguments, properties etc.). I could not create a fact for class X using the above described method.
I manually did a parent child graph of all the dependencies of class X. If create facts for all the classes at the lowest level (these classes are only dependent up on classes in rt.jar) first all the facts are created fine. If I then create facts for all the classes the next level up the graph, they are all fine. I can climb my way up the graph adding facts for the classes just fine all the way to class X. In this scenario I'm able to create a fact for class X.
This exercise is extremely slow and not maintainable. What I really need is a better understanding of how to modularize the dictionaries, ideally to match the code base and how to keep these dictionaries in sync with changes to the code base. Can anybody point me to some documentation on this or recommend a book?

  • Help! Unable to create new native thread

Ok I see this problem all over the web but most of the posts are many years old and still leave me a little confused.  Often at random times on the same tags like CFLDAP I get the error "Unable to create new native thread".  Then a few minutes later the same tag on the same page works just fine.
I have 4GB of memory in this box with 1400 MB set as the maximum Java heap size by the way.

I could really use some help figuring this out.  We are getting random errors a few times a day and usually in places where we are using CFLDAP.
    Thanks,
    David

Absolutely unbelievable that this has been going on for 4 YEARS and there are still NO definitive answers from Adobe!!
There's no definite answer from Adobe, because there's no definitive single question.  These errors come up because - for any number of possible reasons - the JVM becomes overloaded.  And it's almost always down to an issue with the application code being run, and nothing to do with CF, per-se.  So what's Adobe supposed to do?  Come and fix your application for you?  There are plenty of diagnostic tools out there - some built into CF itself - which you could use to sort the problem out.  Or you could hire someone like Mike Brunt to come and have a look at your set up.  All it takes to fix these things is to actually do something about fixing it, rather than slamming one's fist on the desk saying "why doesn't Adobe do something!"
I thought - and my knowledge in the area isn't expansive - the inability to allocate threads was down to the app being choked up: threads are a finite commodity, and if requests are queuing up faster than the JVM can clear them, you're gonna get errors eventually.  What causes this sort of thing?  More traffic than the server can process.  This could be because of server kit, or it could be due to code that doesn't scale to the requirement.  Usually the latter.  Basically one cannot polish a turd.
I have a 24x7 production server that services 180,000 clients in 300 countries around the clock that cannot afford to be down for more than a few minutes at a time.
I'm running Windows 2008 32-bit with 4GB of RAM because I have some graphics software that cannot tolerate a 64-bit OS.  Everything has been running fine for the past few months, but now it's starting to crash more and more frequently.  I have CF 8.0.1.195765 and Java 1.6.0_04
How many concurrent requests for 180000 clients generate?  The number of clients matters less than how heavily the site is used.  But, to be honest, I get the impression the implication is "it's a busy site", in which case I think your hardware is a bit on the lean side.  Also, if it's a mission-critical app, running it on a single server is probably ill-advised, just from a fault-tolerance perspective even before one starts thinking about performance.
If I was in your situation, I'd consider the following options:
    * upgrade your JVM to the most recent version (1.6.0_21?)
    * put more RAM in the box, and run a second CF instance on it.
    * get another box.
    * refactor the environment so the graphics software runs on a different box, upgrading the CF server to 64-bit (again, with more RAM)
    * run some diagnostics on the server, seeing what's taking up threads and where any bottlenecks might be
    * get an expert in to do the analysis side of things.
    * stop expecting Adode to fix "something".
One of my other symptoms I have noticed is that any work done using RDP starts getting really really bogged down.  Opening Windows Explorer and searching for files can take minutes.  Restarting the CF service will sometimes fail to complete, and you have to wait a few minutes before the manual Start option appears in the dropdown.  Maybe coincidentally, the Performance Monitor will fail to add any of the ColdFusion metrics, for example Running Requests and Queued Requests, and the Event Monitor shows an error relating to an 8-byte boundary not being maintained.
You don't, by any chance, store your client variables in the registry do you?  The only time I've seen this happen is when the CF box is munging the OS environment, and the only way I can think this could happen if it was clogging the registry.  Never store client variables in the registry.
