Unable to make changes to LAN Settings in IE after Group Policy Preference is applied

Hi all,
I have an IE10 group policy preference on a Server 2008 R2 domain that is pushed out to Windows 7 SP1 x64 clients. This IE10 GPP is used to push out proxy settings etc. The GPP is applied fine, however when I go into LAN Settings in IE and make any
changes such as unchecking "Use a proxy server..." these changes are not saved. As soon as I click OK and go back into LAN Settings it reverts back to the GPP settings. Are IE10 GPP's meant to allow a user to amend settings in IE? The users have
permissions to write to the Connections key under Internet Settings in the registry. If I delete the Connections key (Which includes DefaultConnectionSettings and SavedLegacySettings) I can then make changes to the proxy (Although without the original settings).
I know their are other, and better, methods of controlling proxy settings for users but unfortunately this is the way the customer has it implemented. All defaults for GP is applied such as refresh rate etc. I've tested IE10 on a Server 2012 R2 / Win8 environment
with the exact same GPP settings and I can make changes to the LAN Settings. Is this possibly a bug? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
So by now we could make it work by deleting the Connections key, in order to change the proxy settings of IE 10-Windows 7 in the Windows Server 2008 R2 environment?
Besides, could it be convenient for us to perform some more tests here? How IE 10 of Windows 7 behaves in Server 2012 R2 environment? And Windows 8 in Server 2008 R2?
Best regards
Michael

Every time I sign in, it signs me out immediately. I've tried deleting the opm file and it's unable to do so because "Adobe CC is currently running this file." I've also changed my LAN settings and downloaded something else that was supposed to help me out but nothing seems to fix the problem.

I think you'll find that the official Adobe advice here is misguided.  First, deleting bits of the program and program data is, as you've noted, perilous and often impossible.  Shame on Adobe for doing such a poor job of coding that such steps are needed.
The solution I recommend is as follows:
Restart your Windows machine and boot in "Safe Mode" with networking using the F8 key just as Windows starts.
Go to the Control Panel and select Programs. Find and Uninstall "Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop".
Reinstall it by downloading it from the website  https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
    Restart your machine.
Only in "Safe Mode" are you likely to be able to accomplish these tasks reliably.

  • How do I change my LAN settings?

I cant find Tools, its not there. So, how do I change my LAN settings.
Or where do I find Tools?

You can find the connection settings here:
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

  • Unable to make changes to your software

    Hi,
We have an SCCM 2012 client (Vista pc) which was upgraded (SCCM 2007 => 2012 via client push).
We deployed a task sequence with OSD Windows 7. This worked fine untill now.
Suddenly we get the message "Unable to make changes to your software", None of the applications you tried to install began installation succesfully.
There is no smsts.log since the tasksequence didn't even started.
    Please advise.

Found the problem. On Vista as well wifi as standard nic are enabled. Although it should not happen, the wifi-address/mac is used to download content. When we added the wifi network as boundary, problem was solved.

  • Group Policy Preferences IE9 settings inconsistently applying on Windows 7 Clients

We have two Windows 2008 R2 Domain Controllers.
We have only Windows 7 SP1 clients.
We have a mix of IE 9, 10 ,11 on the clients.
We moved to using GPP to control IE Proxy settings some considerable time ago.
We recently needed add a site the the proxy exceptions list. This appeared to work. However we discovered that for IE 10+ the setting was not effective. So we spun up a Windows 8.1 VM with RSAT and added a new IE Settings object into GP targeting IE
    11. This appeared to have the desired effect.
After a while some  (and it appears only some) IE9 machines, found their proxy settings reverting. This could be resolved by closing IE down and issuing a gpupdate /force command. However the issue would re-occur for these users, and they would be required
to close their browser and re-issue update /force again.
Furthermore (this may or may not be linked) we have been seeing JavaScript disabled warnings from OWA from some machines running IE11.
Any thoughts on troubleshooting this would be appreciated.
    Nick

Would you please let me know if the issue only occurred on all Windows 7 with IE 9 installed machines? Or
only some Windows 7 with IE 9 installed machines have this issue?
The issue is affecting about 20-25% of machines. Generally after a logon they are fine, but then after a background gp refresh they pick up 'old' settings for the bypass proxy list.
Would you please let me know how did you configure the GPP settings?
We opened up an existing GPO that contained our previous Internet Explorer GPP settings on our first domain controller (which appears to have IE11 installed) made the changes to the existing
    GPP IE Settings.
We then noticed that the settings hadn't taken on IE11 machines, so we used a windows 8.1 RTM VM with RSAT installed to add an additional "Internet Explorer 8: Internet Explorer 11" only
set of preferences. The IE8/9/10 preferences had priority of 1 the IE 11 preferences a priority of 2
I think the original GPP settings were created from a Windows 7 machine with IE9 and the Enterprise Hotfix Rollup installed.
Did you configure it in one GPO and applied to all machines?
    Yes.
Have you tried to just configure it separately on Windows 2008 R2 DC and applied it to these Windows 7 with IE 9 installed machines?
Not yet. We currently have a some LOB activities that require one of the sites in the proxy bypass list. I do not want to risk breaking that until later on this week.
How to enable Group Policy Preferences support for IE9
    http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2011/03/how-to-enable-group-policy-preferences-support-for-ie9/
We have the enterprise hotfix rollup installed on the Clients. However
it appears it is not installed on the DCs.
Further examination of the output of a gpresult /h shows that legacy settings from the IE Maintenance object within the GPO match the settings we see applying from time to time. Is that possible? How can we remove the IE Maintenence settings from the
    GPO to test?

  • Can I import a list of services into Group Policy Preferences \ Control Panel Settings \ Services?

    Hello,
We want to control server services with Group Policy Preferences via the Group Policy Preferences \ Control Panel Settings \ Services.  By starting from scratch, I don want to manually add each Service here.  Can I import a list of Services
here, then go back and config the properties?
    I appreciate the help.
    Thanks for your help! SdeDot

    > with settings, however I don't see a way to import that list.
Usually, there's no need for that. Most people only configure services
that aren't already configured the way they should be after an OOBE

  • Group Policy Preferences - Internet Settings - Trusted Sites

    hi all
I can't set Trusted Zone (Site) with GPO Preferences - Internet Settings because it is grey?
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
The Trusted Sites cannot be added using Group Policy Preferences. But you can add it by native group policy.
The group policy settings are here:
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Trusted Sites Zone
If you really want to use the GPP, please manually add the registry keys through GPP.

  • Can I make a wireless Windows domain? And does Group Policy work to limit domain accounts' capabilities?

The first, most important question of this thread is if I can form a wireless domain or if I have to do it wired.
If it matters, I have a Linksys E1200 router that does wireless and wired.
My second question refers to Group Policy. Is this the way domains limit their user account's capabilities? Because I was planning on making a domain, so that I could have unified user accounts that I could control from the server, limiting what those accounts
can access for further security. Is this what Group Policy does, and how would I move with starting that?

    Hi Adrian,
    >>The first, most important question of this thread is if I can form a wireless domain or if I have to do it wired.
Just as Alan suggested, Active Directory domains support both wired and wireless connections.
    >>My second question refers to Group Policy. Is this the way domains limit their user account's capabilities?
Group Policy is an infrastructure that allows you to implement specific configurations for users and computers. Group Policy settings are contained in Group Policy objects
(GPOs), which are linked to the following Active Directory directory service containers: sites, domains, or organizational units (OUs). The settings within GPOs are then evaluated by the affected targets, using the hierarchical nature of Active Directory.
Consequently, Group Policy is one of the top reasons to deploy Active Directory because it allows you to manage user and computer objects.

  • Can't load websites; unable to make changes in Networks

    Dear all
I am using a 2.5 yr old MacBook 2Ghz, and have had very few problems during this time. Recently however, I have been unable to connect to the internet. Airport is receiving a full signal but websites fail to load. When looking under System Preferences -> Network, I am unable to make any changes as the following message appears: "Another application has altered your connection settings". I cannot get rid of this message, nor navigate the Network settings and have to Force Quit System Preferences to close it! Could someone pls advise? Any help gratefully received!
    Many thanks

I am also having this problem, and have been for some time. Look forward to seeing if anyone can answer this. :\

  • Unable to make changes to a jpg file and then save it without the program trying to change it to a psd [was: What a Pile of Crap!]

Can't even make changes to a jpg file and then save it without the program trying to change it to a psd!!!!!  No wonder nobody like Adobe anymore.

Do you mean that PSD comes as a default option or that JPEG is not available no matter what?
Did you add a layer?  Did you change the bit depth?  Did you add transparency?   The JPEG format does not support layers, nor 16-bit images, nor transparency.

  • Administrator's name and password - unable to make changes

I just bought my Macbook about two weeks ago, created a administrator name and password, and it worked just fine. However, for the past couple of days, I'm noticing that I cannot make any changes with Software Updates because when I type in the (CORRECT) name and password, the window says "You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to Software Update. Please try again." Yes, I've BEEN typing the correct name/password. I've tried resetting the password which works fine, but when it comes to inputting it into a window, my macbook doesn't seem to read what I type in. Does anyone know what is going on here? Please help....

    Reply to maurobras.
Seems to me that you have the lost admin problem. One of Leopard'd little ways I have experienced myself. That is the subject of many posts here. Situation (if I am correct in my supposition) is not that you have entered a wrong password, but that what you thought, and what had been till then, was a password of an administrator was not because Leopard had downgraded that user to a non admin.
Look up ' lost administartor' or such in the postings. Put the Leopard install DVD into the machine when booted up.>>>Restart holding down C key. This boots from the install disk. Do not install but look into the menus for the 're set password' option.>>> Choose to re set the root password>>> Write down a good PW for root and write it down.>>>Reset the root password>>>Close the DVD and log in as root with said PW.>>>As root go to System Preferences>>Open the little lock and choose the account that should be an admin>>tick the little box 'allow to administer..'>>>log out of root>>>log in as admin>>open application Directory Utility>> choose to disable root (a safety procedure). You should find now in Sys Prefs that the account IS an admin. Some have found problems getting an option to disable in Directory Utility in that case there is a aTerminal command, disenable root, that works. Make sure of syntax in any Terminal command. Look up man disenable.

  • Unable to make changes in iCal

I've lost the ability to make changes in iCal. Any change I make is lost when I quit and restart Ical. For example: Added event disappears, deleted task or calender reappears, unpublished calender is again marked as published. All looks fine while iCal is running and is undone when iCal is restarted.
I can make changes in e.g. Mail, I removed tasks from Mail and they stayed removed.
Events added in my iPhone gets added in iCal.
    /SJ

I can't seem to find any help for this issue either. I don't have a .mac account btw. but here is what happened to me.
I've been trying to switch over from entourage so I organized my recurring events in ical, including a few calendars, a few subscription calendars and the "show birthday calendars" option. Everything was fine for a week. Then i opened ical and all my tasks and some of my events (but not all) were missing. At this point ical began to NOT save anything i entered. I would enter a test task or event and upon reopening the application the changes were not there.
I searched the internet for help. I found no advice except deleting everything and starting over. This i did last week. I even deleted my plists, library etc... Now when i relaunched, I had empty Home and Work calendars and a "Entourage calendar", which i tried to delete multiple times (syncing was turned off), but I can't seem to permanently remove. It will go away if i delete it, but if i clean up the plists and library again it comes back. maybe this is the way it's suppose to work?? In any case, i finally just unchecked it. This time things seemed to work fine for a day. So i finally turned back on the "birthdays calendar", but i was still leery of subscribing to any other calendars. Things were fine again.
Last night I entered my tasks again. No importing, just directly entering the info into ical. This morning I open i cal and i'm back to where i started. No tasks, missing events, and i can't seem to get any new events or tasks to save. I'm so frustrated! I hope someone can help. Thanks!

  • Change "rely on system fonts only" via Group Policy

    Hello,
This may take a bit to explain my problem, sorry in advance. I have a mixed network environment of Windows 7 Professional (x64) and Windows XP Pro SP3 (x32), and all of them have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, with the Adobe PDF Printer.
My problem is that ALL of these systems have a serious, game-killing problem with the Adobe PDF printer setting, "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts". If that option is enabled (or if the option with the same name under Printer Defaults is enabled), then printing in our ERP software dies. (We use Microsoft Dynamics GP). Users get an error "Unable to stop printing", and believe me it took a WHILE before I figured out that the Adobe PDF setting was to blame! This happens even if my users are printing to physical paper, and not touching the PDF printer at all. In other software we sometimes get the annoying popup message from Adobe PDF saying that we need to uncheck the "Rely on system fonts..." setting as well. In short, I HAVE to keep that option turned off for all of my users.
Unfortunately, every time there's a major Adobe update the option returns (GRRRR!), in both the Printer Preferences menu and the Printer Defaults menu. I'm trying to change the option via a group policy administrative template, but I don't know which registry settings to modify - it seems like this option exists in SEVERAL places, here are the ones I've found so far:
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData\DistillerHostFontHasMostFonts
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData\DistillerHostFontHasMostFonts
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData\DistillerHostFontHasMostFonts
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData\DistillerHostFontHasMostFonts
I've also found references in this forum that tell me to also change a long binary string in:
    - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser\Adobe PDF\Adobe PDF       (And this one I honestly have no idea how to edit a huge string like that.)
For the first four registry values, when I change DistillerHostFontHasMostFonts to 0 via a template... the checkbox isn't visually cleared in the GUI. *face palm* I'm a bit desperate - how is an admin supposed to change this option across a company network besides manually?

And, as a demonstration that this is a REAL and DOCUMENTED Microsoft bug, here's the text of the Dynamics GP KB article:
It would be nice if somebody from Adobe had an answer other than "yeah you shouldn't disable that feature, for vague reasons of our own that we won't tell you."  Microsoft clearly believes it MUST be disabled! I don't have an option there, or my company's ERP software doesn't work.
