Unbound item in mutli records block

Hi,
is it possible to have an unbound item in a block with 4 rows to be displayed only 1 time instead af 4 like a computed item ?

Set the context-property of the items that you want to display multiple times to Yes, the context property of the unbound item to No (and change te order of the items, so the unbound item is the last one). Set the block property 'Overflow' to Overflow Below (or Right whatever you prefer).
That should do the trick...

I have a multi-record block with an image item that is not in teh table, is populated in the post-query trigger with a read_image_item, from a gif file. This block is child of another block. The problem is that the first records of the block, the ones that fit on the screen, are not showing the image properly, the image appears grey, distorted. In reality, the image dont adjust to the size of the item, as it is especified in the properties. When i scroll down, the rest of records show the image perfect, but this ones still are distorted.
Forms is 6.0.8.22.1, over oracle 9i. Thank you all in advance.

Query with criteria in unbound item

Hi,
I have a block (master) related to another block (detail). I'd like to narrow the returned results by adding a criteria in an unbound item in the master block.
The value in the unbound item seemed to be ignored when I execute the query.
How can I add a criteria for my query ?

If it's a simple value then add in a pre-query trigger onto the detail block with something like :

if :control.my_unbound_item is not null then
:detail.the_item := :control.unbound_item;
end if;
end;
If you need something more sophisticated then post an example of what you'd like to do.

About populating a non-database item in a multi-records block

Hi, all
I have a problem about populating a non-database item in a
multi-records block. This block is set to database block with a
controlled item which needs to be populated after query. so I
create a post-query trigger, but my problem is when the records
listed in this block are less than 10 ( the record number is set
to 10), the trigger fires no problem. but when the retrieved
records are greater than 10, the error message is 'post query
trigger raised unhandled exception ora 01403'. anyone can help me
fix this problem?

When you have an unbound item in a block and want to fetch
some data into it you need to write a post-query trigger.What
you have done is right.But it seems that u are getting a No data
found error.I am sure about how u r populating data into that
field.If u have written a select statement to fetch the data in
post-query trigger, kindly handle an exception and find out the
problem.Having a look at ur code(pos-query) would be much more
helpful for giving a better solution.Try this a let me know.

In oracle forms I have a form with a multi-record block, with several unbound items.
One of these unbound items is a formula based item.
The formula for this item fills the others unbound items.
A procedure with several out parameters is called.
E.g.

I can write database functions as wrappers, one for each out parameter, and use these in a select.
But:
- having one procedure with several out parameters was done for performance reasons.
- I want to leave my database as is, and just replace the client.
Easy as this is using Oracle developer forms, I cannot find out how to do this in any of the APEX examples/documentation.

Check box Item property in mutiple record block

Hi,
I have migrated a number of forms from 6i to 10g. All seems to be working apart from a problem with the display of check boxes that are part of a multiple record block. The item property for the checkbox has font weight set to bold and this works fine on the 6g version. On the 10g version it is displayed as normal font weight.
Any other items in the record, text items etc are displayed in bold correctly.
As this seems to affect a lot of forms is there some patch/fix that I should have applied or is this just the way it is?
I am trying to use set_item_instance_property to set them manually but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I suggest then using dark color scheme to give you a similar effect as it was in Forms 6i. for example:

How to change the Height of item....!!!! in multi record block

Here is the problem I want to change one item height in multiple records block..
I tried to do the following
set_item_instance_property(:system.mouse_item,:system.current_record,height,50);
But this didn't work as the property for height couldn't be used with this built in..
Can any one tell me any other suggestion to move around

If you just have two sizes to display - e.g. normally the item is 1 line high but in the current item you want to show more information and want to make it say 2 lines high, then you can use a Mirror item to do this.
Create another item in the block - set the Synchronize With Item property to the base item you want to "Resize".
Set the Records Displayed property to 1 for this extra field.
Put this field on a stacked canvas that is just big enough to hold it.
The in your When-New-Record Instance trigger you can pop the stacked canvas up over the normal version of the field.
That should do the trick.

Editing record items in a multi-record block - 1 record at a time.

I have the following scenario: Currently in my multi-record block, to edit an item of a record, the user has to double click on the record to enable the 'save changes' button. However, I want to turn the navigation to all other records turned off. The only way the user should be able to edit other records is save changes first, then again double click on the desired record to re-enable the 'save changes' button (at this time navigation to all other records should be turned off). ie., the user should be able to edit 1 record at a time (At any given time, I won't be having many records in the block which the user may have to modify).
How can this be achieved?

That is pretty odd requirement, but this might work:
When the user double-clicks the record, enable the Save button, and set a value in any column of the record to its current value. This will cause Forms to set the record status to CHANGED, and will not permit navigation away from the record until the When-validate-record trigger runs successfully.
In the Save button, start a non-repeating timer to run maybe 20 milliseconds, then issue a Validate(Record_Scope); command. Check form_success then commit_form.
In the when-validate-record trigger: Do any record validation that may be necessary, and Raise Form_Trigger_Failure if anything is wrong. Then check for the existence of your Save button's timer. If it does NOT exist, issue a message like: "You must Save the changes first" and Raise Form_Trigger_Failure; If the timer exists, do not raise the error.

Get the first item value of previous record in a multi record block

If you want a distinct value in each row or to be able to retrieve the records in the same order they were written then you should use a sequence.
If you want to retrieve the records in the same order they were created in the block then you will need a diffferent solution to the one you outline here since a user could enter a new record between two others.
I posted this a while back in response to someone who was using a sort_key item and resetting it for each row when a new record was inserted:
If you make the sort_key bigger then you have much more room to insert new rows in between existing rows without having to reset all the sort_keys.
Eg. you have rows with sort_keys of 129282000000000000 and 129283000000000000 (you can have more zeros if you want) and you want to insert a row in between. if you're using oracle forms then the user would have to click on the first of these rows and then do 'insert'. in your insert process you would store the sort keys of the current record and the one below, create a blank record in between and set the sort_key of that record to the average of the other two. you will be able to insert many new rows in between the original 2 before running out of space in the sort_key field.
the method above is not sufficient, there are some other cases to consider:
1) when the user is on the last record of the block then you will just create a new record with sort_key set to a greater number than the row before. you can have the sort_key defined as number(38) and to safely allow you to enter 1000 rows each new row would normally be 10E33 greater than the previous one.
2) when the user is entering the first record then just set the sort_key to 10E33.
3) on the off-chance that you do insert a great number of records and cannot insert another in between then you would need to alert the user, process the records so that the sort_keys are evenly spaced and requery the block. this processing could be scheduled nightly to make this eventuality even less likely.
4) make sure the user cannot run the default 'clear_record' procedure. this would break my method as well as yours!

Is there a way to chek duplicate value entered in multi record block?
I have seen some solutions in this forum however nothing has worked for me till now. (using the formula, creating hidden items & creating group etc)

Is it possible to order by an Unbound Item?

I have a block in my module that requires the records to be ordered by one of its Unbound Items. I have tried using the Order By Sequence property but this seems to be ignored when the module is generated.
Any help would be gratefully received.

To my knowledge it isn't possible the way you try to achieve it, because these unbound items are populated 'post query'. What you can do is create a (database) function that returns the value of your unbound item and use this in the the 'Where/Validation property' of the table usage (enter 1=1 before the order by).
Example:
1=1
order by (PRF_CURRENT - PRF_MINIMAL) desc
(in this example I order the block on the difference between two fields, depending on your situation you can do something similar of use a database function instead)

but my problem is i cannot able to calculate all the value because for the totale value i have to
write a for loop to loop through the record

go_block() is not working in post_change .well u can use timers but no need for it u can reference block item but first u have to accumulate the values per record in WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM TRIGGER in the last calculated item which is inserted by the user and assign it to the display item in ur current multi-record block :*block_name.total_item*.. as follow...
:block_name.total_item := :item1 + .... ; Then u create a second display item > no of records property = 1 , named e.g. final_summarized_totals
In order to summarize this total values accumulated in the multi-record display item named e.g. block_name.total_item
Finally using PRE-INSERT , PRE-UPDATE,PRE-DELETE Triggers to assign the value calculated into the display item * block_name.total_item* into the db_item into the previously mentioned Trigger Block-Level Off-course.

Non-Database Item Sort Using Multiple Block Values

I need to sort the result set of a block based on a calculated item. I found several messages addressing this, however they all speak to using the columns from within the same block as input variables to the function used to calculate the non-database column value.
My problem is that I need to use values from a different block as input variables. I have not found a way to use them since I need to use the full block.column syntax. Forms does not like this and always thows an error right at the period(.). I need to do this because the column names are the same in each block. the function compares the column values and changes the record instance background a different color based based on how many of the column pairs match. Each block is mutually exclusive from each other and doing a accurate join is not really possible.
I tried renaming the block column name to something unique, however I get a variable not bound error when I try to use it in the order by function even though their values are in the top most block.
For Example:
First Block. Contains a list of cases that need to be worked because the automated process could not find a valid provider based on the values received. This list is created by a background process.
Table: CASE_MAIN
TIN
CASE_ID
FCLTY_CM
MEDICARE_CM
Unrelated Second Block (i.e., no join). It uses the TIN value in the first block to get a list of all of the providers for the TIN associated with the Case so that a person can assign the correct Provider to the case (A TIN has a provider and address associated with it). As a result there is no link to the results of this table and the CASE_ID. That's what the users needs to do manually

I need to take the values in the first block and compare them in the second block so that I can recolor the background based on matching logic in the function below.

I am able to do the coloring within the form easily, however I need to order them by how many values match exactly so the ones that match to most value pairs show at the top. Hence ordering by the result of the function. I return a 0,1, or 2 based on the matches. 0 for none and 2 for both.
I cannot create a view because the sources of the information I need to compare are NOT related to each other, yet. that is what the application is designed to do. I have a case without a
provider assigned, but I have a tax id number that possible identifies the provider. I use this TIN to query the provider table for all of the possible providers under that TIN. As a result there is no link between the case information and provider information. The goal is to get this list compare the values from the target information and put the most likely matches on top, with
the ones with the most matches first. I can create a function many ways that takes in various parameters. For example Case ID and Provider Id and query the records in subselects
individually like so;

from (select fclty, medicare from case_main where case_id p_case_id) cm
,(select fclty, medicare from provider_main where prv_id = p_prv_id) pm
where cm.fclty = pm.fclty
and cm.medicare = pm.medicare
If the number is greater than zero I know I have a match with that provider and I can sort accoringly. I can also pass in the target information from case_main and the provider inforation from provider_main and then do an if/then statement for comparing. Then I can use this function to create a column value for each record and then use the same reference to the function in the order by clause to order by that value.
The problem comes in trying to reference the case_id or target information from a different block than where the fucntion needs to be used. I get a variable bound not error message. What am I missing here. Why can I not reference a uniquely named block item as a input variable to a function in a different block? Does Forms first figure out what it needs to retrieve and then executes the SQL for each block in isolation, or does the first block's result set get retrieved, then the second, third, etc. Based on the message i am getting I would suspect the former since it appears their is no value in subsequent blocks. If so is there anyway around this? thanks.

Don't quite understand your problem completely. But this might help. I sure hope your Provider_Main is a single-record block ...otherwise, how would you supply a list of values of FCLTY and MEDICARE to the function that does the sorting? Be awere, too, that the order-by is processed by the server, and NOT by Forms.
Assuming it is a single-record block, you can put the values into parameters:
:Parameter.Fclty := :Provider_Main.Fclty;
:Parameter.Medicare := :Provider.Medicare;
Execute_Query;
And your order-by clause would be
get_vals( ''||:FCLTY_CM||'',''||:MEDICARE_CM||'',
:Parameter.Fclty,
:Parameter.Medicare) desc
By the way, the first line of your order-by looks strange. Shouldn't it be:
get_vals( FCLTY_CM || ',' || MEDICARE_CM,
or even better, get_vals should take in 4 parameters:
get_vals(Fclty_cm, Medicare_cm, :parameter.Fclty, :parameter.Medicare)
