Underscrore key suddenly not working

Underscrore key suddenly not working.
17" PB 3.5 yrs old. Is it one key? Entire Keyboard? Something else?
How do I replace? One key? Entire KB?
Cheers,
RS

one key can't be replaced, if it's caused by a bad keyboard, then the whole keyboard gets replaced.
sometimes could be caused by bad cable connection, but it's likely a bad keyboard.

  • Arrow keys suddenly not working!

Two arrow keys, right and up, suddenly stopped working on my black Macbook.  I had this problem a week ago, then upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and they worked again.   Not now. They won't work with modifying keys either!  Someone please help me.

If a number of keys are not working, it is probably a defective keyboard. Having a different keyboard setting would cause different characters to show up, not not work. You are going to need to get the keyboard replaced. If the computer is still under warranty, do it as soon as possible. But if they find a spill on the keyboard, expect to be charged. In the meantime, an external USB keyboard does work well on these Toshibas.

  • USB keyboard shift keys suddenly not working

For some reason, when I woke up my MacBook Pro this morning, both shift keys on my aluminium USB keyboard were not working. I'm using the keyboard with a Magic Mouse and LED cinema display connected to my MacBook. When I hold either shift key in combination with any other key, either nothing is typed, or there will be random characters typed, occasionally.
I ran AppleJack on auto to see if there were any problems. There were a few preferences it corrected, but nothing major was wrong. I connected the keyboard to a friend's MacBook Pro, and the shift keys did not work on his machine either. Caps Lock does work. I've tried canned air. I don't remember spilling anything on it.
Any idea about what I can try to get it working, or is it broken? Thanks,
    -Jeff

  • Modifier Keys suddenly not working with Numberpads

I favor the use of a numberpad and as such i have been using a third party USB Numberpad.  I also have a Apple wired keyboard that comes with the number pad.
All these while, the modifier keys (shift, alt, ctrl) works with the numberpad and the numberpad section of the apple keyboard.  Somehow, recently, not sure when, it no longer works.
I've tried to reset default on the modifier key section but it just doesn't work... This is really frustrating.  the only thing i remember installing lately is "bettertouchtool" and buying a magic mouse.
Bettertouchtool is not usually running unless i choose to run it, so i'm not sure how that affecs it, not am i sure if totally removing it via a third party app helps.
    Appreciate HELP! PLEASE!

i am having the same problem.  It just started a few days ago.  Im thinkin its a problem with the most recent update.  Im goin to contact apple to let them know.   I'll post again when i hear something.  If anyone figures it out before then please let us know!

  • Some of my keys are not working!

My delete key is all the sudden not working.. so everytime I spell somthing wrong i have to highlight it and change it... is there something at home i can do to fix it?? and also my fan is running about 90% of the time when i have my macbook on... and its very loud! what can i do for that also

Personally I would bring it to an Apple store, an authorized Apple repair store, or call Apple about it. From many posts I have seen here (and personal experience with the keys not working) the best thing to do is get in touch with Apple.
I installed SMC fancontrol so that I could monitor heat issues, and I have a widget to monitor process speeds.
    Good luck!

I have done the battery pull out thing and it hasn't helped and whenever I switch on my phone it tells me there was a problem with the key presses and it's really getting to me now because I love music nd totally love my phone . PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall.
    Shutdown the notebook.
Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

  • Tab key is not working on my macbook pro on any app including the key combos. It has snow leopard.

    Hi All,
I have a macbook pro with snow leopard on it. The tab key is not working now suddenly. It doesn't work on any browser or applications like word or excel. The key combos with Tab also doesn't work.
    Thanks,
    Daniel.

I noticed the same problem started a few days ago on mac pro with logic fcp keyboard but caps lock also stopped working. I cleaned under and around the tab and caps lock keys thoroughly but no dice. If I change usb ports the keyboard is plugged into caps lock lights up briefly and if I tweak keyboard setting tabs to force it to re-recognise the keyboard the tab and caps lock functions work while I have the keyboard system panel open and attempting to "identify keyboard" but back to not functioning when I close it. There have been a few postings about this problem but haven't come across the solution yet. Any ideas...

  • My Shortcut Keys are not Working

    Hi everybody.
I was working on a project for the past couple of days. All of a sudden my "JKL" keys are not working. My "spacebar" will start and stop a clip, but the JKL keys have no effect. Also, none of my other shortcut keys will work.
The keys work when I go to another application.
I trashed my preferences and emptied the trash... no change.
    Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance and Happy Thanksgiving!
    Brian

    Hi Stuckfootage- thanks for responding.
Should have mentioned that I restarted/rebooted a couple of times and even turned the machine off.
    No luck...

  • Few keyboard keys are not working

    I am Using Mac 10.5.8
Yesterday, when i made my laptop shut down, all the keys were working perefectly.
Even when i started it today, for few minutes ie 5 minutes all the keys were working fine, But then i don't what happned suddenly.
Pointer starts blinking.. Down arrow key was getting pressed itself.
Later i restarted it, and found Right click on trackpad was not working, and all arrow keys along with right Command key are not working.
Then i restarted it again, command keys started working, and up ,left & right arrow keys started working.
I verified my disk, then i found right click started working.
The only key was not working down arrow key.
But after 30 minutes Right key stopped working and Right command key too
Suggest me what should i do now, it seems more like some software problem in comparison to Keyboard hardware problem.

Hey i guess that's not a good idea, Could you please let me know something about some hardware check/keyboard viewer.
    Anything like that ?

  • Universal Wireless Keyboard by Palm: Keys do not work properly

4 keys on the right side of the keyboard (0, P, L, ".") do not work, and I find it very annoying, because it's been a common problem among all the Palm keyboard I have used.
I have owned 3 Palm keyboards so far. The first one was Palm Wireless Keyboard. It worked great at first, but after about 8 months of use, the keys on the right stopped working. It was not a software problem, I was sure, because I'd performed all the resets (soft, hard, you name it) but it did not resolve the problem. Since the keyboard was still under warranty, Palm replaced it with a new Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard. It worked great at first, but after several months of use, the keys on the right stopped working as well. Palm did not replace this keyboard but I got a new Palm TX around the time, and the Palm sent me Universal Wireless Keyboard free with it, so I just started using the new one, which, worked great at first, but then gave away after several months of use. And I'm TIRED of it.
The keys will work sometimes, but mostly don't, at least not promptly. If I hold down the troubled keys and wait long enough, sometimes they will start working. The keyboard makes a soft ticking noise when I press down on the normal keys, but the troubled ones don't, when they are not working, and I'm guessing this has to do with the wiring.
I was wondering how I can fix this problem. It is VERY annoying when the keys suddenly stops working when I'm taking notes in the class or just won't start working at all.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

If the following iFixit repair guide doesn't help, then it is time for a replacement.

Additionally, you can use most any after-market or pc keyboard with a Mac.
Heck' I've been using $20 MK120 Keyboard/Mouse Combo's with all of my Mac's for years.
