This is the significant message:
*utdevmgrd[14281]: [ID 331289 daemon.error] dm getpeername: Transport endpoint is not connected*
*utdevmgrd[14281]: [ID 273529 daemon.notice] Quit 1*
This implies that the Device Manager (utdevmgrd) is not starting up properly.
The rest of the messages are coming from the various daemons that rely on the Device Manager (utstoraged, utseriald, utparalleld).
It implies to me that your network may not be configured properly, or else your /etc/opt/SUNWut/utadmin.conf file is specifying a hostname that does not match your local host (admin.server.name).
I would check the value of admin.server.name in /etc/opt/SUNWut/utadmin.conf, and /etc/hosts to make sure the same hostname is there, and then 'ifconfig -a' to make sure that IP address is configured and active on an interface that is UP and RUNNING.
Have you changed your hostname since you ran 'utconfig'? Or did you copy this file from another system? Either is unlikely to produce the expected result. If you've done either of these, what are you trying to accomplish?

  • What is the significance of /var/adm/siebel/vdp.properties file

    Can you please Tell me the Significant of /var/adm/siebel/vdp.properties file...
    What is the main purpose of this File..?
    Regards,
    Balaji

    Balaji,
    vpd.properties file is created by installshield embedded in siebel installers, other software that also uses installshield may also use the same vpd.properties. Good practice is to take backups after/before each siebel installation, including patch install. Doc ID 476955.1 in support.oracle.com has some information about this file.
    Hope it helps,
    Wilson

    So we've been running with the default value (0) and have not really had any "problems".  I haven't done any testing but I'm ok with faster, like everyone would be, but am also a bit risk averse so want to know what exactly I'm turning off.
    I also saw this advice from Rob Tiffany:
    Use the appropriate x64, x86 or ARM version of SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 to take advantage of the
    PostSyncCleanup property of the SqlCeReplication object that can reduce the time it takes to perform an initial synchronization. Set the
    PostSyncCleanup property equal to 3 where neither
    UpdateStats nor CleanByRetention are performed.
    Here: http  robtiffany.com/microsoft-sql-server-compact-3-5-sp2-has-arrived/
    So, is the best advice to use that parameter and set the value to 3 or 2
    I don't really know what I'm losing to "not performing" UpdateStats or CleanByRetention and does making that change need I need to do something else on the server or client to "clear out" or "clean up" something that this is
    doing.

    There is no solution other than uninstalling the software, then notify Ambrosia of the problem so they might fix it in a later version. Of course I am assuming you are using the latest version of the software.
    As for the firmware update you can find the information here: EFI and SMC Firmware Updates. Perhaps yours is new enough to have the update already installed.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
    Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
    Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
    Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
    Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
    Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
    If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
    There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
    Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

    REPLACING an HP Deskjet 3845.installing the softwre disk,was succefull,upon complition got a message "Device is not listed"and another message "specify device manually" now what is device name and how to specify the device manually ???

    Hi @BOLDEAGLE,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I noticed that you are getting the error, "Device is not listed," while installing the software for your HP Officejet Pro 6230. I am happy to help!
    Some questions for you, if you do not mind:
    How is your printer connected? Wireless, Ethernet, or USB?
    Do you see any blinking lights on the printer?
    Are you able to print a status report? (To print a status report: Load plain white paper into the input tray, and then pull out the tray extender on the output tray. Press and hold the Cancel button for five seconds, and then release it. The test page prints.)
    In the meantime, I would recommend to go through this guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X.
    Hope this guide helps, and hope to hear from you soon!

    I tried to install the Watch ABC (a free app) on my iPad from the AppStore. It would not download. I attempted to install it a second time, and got the message "You've already purchased this, so it will downloaded now at no additional charge." Any advice? This is a fee app so I do not understand the message referencing a purchased app. I get the cloud symbol, but it will not download. I closed the App Store app and restarted my iPad, but to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    You are aware that there the app may have downloaded and been placed on the second screen.  Not the main one.  Can you swipe to the right to see if it is there?

  • Var/adm/utmpx: value too large for defined datatype

    Hi,
    On a Solaris 10 machine I cannot use last command to view login history etc. It tells something like "/var/adm/utmpx: value too large for defined datatype".
    The size of /var/adm/utmpx is about 2GB.
    I tried renaming the file to utmpx.0 and create a new file using head utmpx.0 > utmpx but after that the last command does not show any output. The new utmpx file seems to be updating with new info though... as seen from file last modified time.
    Is there a standard procedure to recreate a new utmpx file once it grows too largs?? I couldnt find much in man pages
    Thanks in advance for any help

    The easiest way is to cat /dev/null to utmpx - this will clear out the file to 0 bytes but leave it intact.
    from the /var/adm/ directory:
    cat /dev/null > /var/adm/utmpx
    Some docs suggest going to single user mode to do this, or stopping the utmp service daemon first, but I'm not positive this is necessary. Perhaps someone has input on that aspect. I've always just sent /dev/null to utmpx and wtmpx without a problem.
    BTW - I believe "last" works with wtmpx, and "who" works with utmpx.

  • Need to understand the relation between ManualResetEvent and thread

    please help me to understand the below code
    what is resetEvent.Set() and WaitOne() ? what it does ?
    var resetEvent = new ManualResetEvent(false);
    ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(
    arg =>
    DoWork();
    resetEvent.Set();
    resetEvent.WaitOne();
    again help me to understand the below code
    var events = new List<ManualResetEvent>();
    foreach(var job in jobs)
    var resetEvent = new ManualResetEvent(false);
    ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(
    arg =>
    DoWork(job);
    resetEvent.Set();
    events.Add(resetEvent);
    WaitHandle.WaitAll(events.ToArray());
    why this line WaitHandle.WaitAll(events.ToArray()); is required ?
    why adding ManualResetEvent instance to list ?
    looking for discussion. thanks

    WaitOne() will cause the current (main) thread to wait until the thread pool thread has called the Set() method. If you don't call the WaitOne() method, the code line below ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(...) will get executed before the delegate that you
    pass do the ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem method has actually finished its execution because the threads are being executed simultaneously:
    var resetEvent = new ManualResetEvent(false);
    ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(
    arg =>
    //this will be executed simultaneously on thread B
    Thread.Sleep(10000);
    //tell thread A to continue
    resetEvent.Set();
    //thread A waits here until thread B calls the Set() method...
    resetEvent.WaitOne();
    string s = "abc"; //this line won't get executed until thread B has called the Set() method provided that the WaitOne() method is called by thread A above.
    >>why this line WaitHandle.WaitAll(events.ToArray()); is required ?
    It causes the main thread to wait until the Set method of all ManualResetEvent objects in the events list has been called. Othwerwise the execution of the main thread would continue immediately after the foreach loop has been executed. By this time the DoWork
    method of all jobs has not yet been completed because they are being executed on another thread.
    WaitHandle.WaitAll(events.ToArray());
    string s = "abc"; //this line won't get executed until all the Set() method of all ManualResetEvent objects in events has been called
    >>why adding ManualResetEvent instance to list ?
    Because you (appearantly) want to wait for all objects in the list, i.e. you want to wait for the DoWork method to complete for all jobs before you continue the execution of the main thread (and go on to assign the string s to the value "abc"
    in the above example).
    Hope that helps.

  • Email notification of warning messages generated in /var/adm/messages

    Im using mdmonitord to periodically check status of my disks in RAID 1 (using Solaris Volume Management) If/when problem occurs the errors/warnings will be logged to[b] /var/adm/messages file. What do I need to configure/enable to monitor /var/adm/messages for particual WARNING messages and to notify me via email.
    Similar utility on LINUX is Logwatch: http://www2.logwatch.org:81/index.html

    Check /etc/init.d/dtcp , i guess it would be copyrighted to fujitsu-siemens if its the fujitsu dtcp. You can also9 do a pkginfo -l SMAWdtcp, which seems to be the name of the fujitsu package. Hmm, odd name for a Fujitsu package.
    Actually i found the following Fujitsu bug:
    A0559315 Fix flood of messages like dml_send DB_PS_Udp_Con_Remove_List failed
    - caused by trying to send the message to a node that is down.
    .. which seems rather familiar.
    Its fixed with fujitsu patch 901199-08
    Other Fujitsu DTCP patches are
    901191-08 and 901244-01
    Note that to get Fujitsu patches you need a special account, once you have an account you can download them from http://patches.ts.fujitsu.com/

  • Different msgid shown in /var/adm/message as opposed to command line.

    I've been trying to investigate an issue of how the /var/adm/messages alarms which has a message ID is different from a command line msgid output but have not been successful.
    The test I have done is as follow:
    logger -p local0.error -t TEST "Test Alarm for message ID"
    The output I get in /var/adm/messages is :
    May 3 14:00:28 hostname TEST: [ID 702911 local0.error] Test Alarm for message ID
    However, when I compare the ID generated with /usr/sbin/msgid, the ID seems to be different.
    bash-3.00# echo "Test Alarm for message ID" | msgid
    *231001* Test Alarm for message ID
    As you can see, the ID generated is different. Because of this, it's causing some issues on the alarm monitoring system and everything seems to fall under ID 702911. Anyone know how I can solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    The source code for logger is available:
    http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/onnv/onnv-gate/usr/src/cmd/logger/logger.c
    You could try fixing it... Looking at the syslog() calls it clearly has "%s" as one of the options. I guess you could find another piece of source code that makes syslog() calls and figure out what construct "should" be there.

  • Sun logs: /var/adm/messages vs. /var/svc/log/*

    On Solaris 10, is /var/adm/messages still the "gold standard" for startup and shutdown log messages, or have the critical logs moved to /var/svc/log/$service_name?
    It's not like I can't look in one or the other, but I'm trying to gauge the relative importance of the two.
    Is there another location that I'm overlooking?

    aaron.m wrote:
    On Solaris 10, is /var/adm/messages still the "gold standard" for startup and shutdown log messages, or have the critical logs moved to /var/svc/log/$service_name?Depends on what you mean by "startup" messages. There are two types I can think of.
    During boot the kernel might generate a few messages about drivers and buffers and stuff. This is stored in a kernel buffer that is visible when you type 'dmesg'. When syslog starts up, it dumps the contents into the messages file so you have a static copy. I don't think this behavior changes between Solaris 9 and Solaris 10.
    For the actual startup "scripts" (SMF, /etc/init.d, /etc/rc?), Solaris 9 and earlier didn't have any sort of capture location. It was common for scripts to print to STDOUT/STDERR, and that would be delivered to the console only. Since many of the scripts are running before filesystems are mounted read/write, it didn't try to save the output.
    Now with SMF, it does more work to capture that output and you can find that in the service log files that you mention.
    So none of the logs have really moved, but you now have more logs than you did before.

  • Monitoring /var/adm/messages

    Hello to all,
    we are developing system for monitoring of the servers trough reading of the /var/adm/messages file.
    Since there are numerous messages in this file we are wondering what regular expressions to use in order to extract serious/critical alerts from this file.
    Does anybody have set of regular expressions to search for in this file for serious/critical events?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dejan

    Hi ,
    You can try to play whit /etc/syslog.conf . In this way you can made a filter for emergency and critical problem and redirect it to a specific file .
    For example , the following line will redirect all the the emargency and critical message to /var/adm/message.critical
    *.emerg;*.crit;* /var/adm/message.critical
    I hope this help to develop your tool

  • /var/adm/messages regopen warning

    Hello,
    I am observing a warning message in the /var/adm/messages
    file of my Solaris 2.8 machine after I have run my application
    for several hours (under a load). The resulting behavior is that
    my application no longer responds to external requests and essentially
    appears to hang.
    The warning is the following:
    Aug 23 16:44:07 eas1nc2 reg: [ID 286125 kern.warning] WARNING: regopen: failed, attempted to open > 1000 streams
    Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this
    as well as possible resolutions.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hello,
    Take a look at /etc/syslog.conf. I think that by deafult this file should contain two entries that make the system log into /var/adm/messages. Are there these entries?
