Unit Test Generator - VS 2008 (Cannot add oracle data source)

Hi All,
Okay this might just be me (new to ODT for VS) - but If I start VS, go Test -> Add Test.
Create a Database Unit Test.
[Give it some name]
write a query such as select * from <>
add a test checksum condition , and try to configure the checksum condition.. (Hit configure on the properties - under misc).
I go to new connection ...
I only have SQL Server (sqlClient) available. Is the unit test generator/validator something that oracle does not currently yet support?
(Yes the ODT 11i for VS 2008 is installed, can add a data connection to Oracle systems/query oracle in VS - just cannot add a Oracle database connection for unit database tests).
Or has anybody found a way to make this very useful piece of functionality work ?

The same thing happens, If I go File -> Open -> Oracle Database Project Items -> SQL Script.
This comes up as disconnected.
When right click on the new script choose connect, only SQL Server provider is available with no ability to choose a oracle provider (greyed out to choose a diff connection provider).
Prehaps someone has seen this before?

Problem connecting Mapview to Oracle Database(Add a data source)

Im a neophyte to the mapviewer and Ive run into a very primitive problem. I cant view the sample maps in the mapviewer. I cant connect to the database where I've loaded the sample oracle data (mvdemo.zip) to the database. I have the mapviewer running. Ive checked my tnsnames to confirm the connection used by other oracle application (sql) and confirmed that the spatial files exists on the database.

After you set up a new list and hit done
Tap the info button to add date and time, repeats etc.
I don't like it.
I will use the task list attached to my calendar app instead.

I have created a linked server in a SQL Server 2005 connecting to either an Oracle Database and a SQL Server 6.5 database and getting the following error for both links when trying to query using provider OraOLEDB.Oracle, please help.
OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "finprod3" returned message "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified".

What version of Oracle client software are you using? 32 bit or 64 bit? Is the OS 32 bit or 64 bit?
12154 generally means the client can't figure out what TNSNames.ora entry you're referring to, which is the part you passed as "data source" in the oledb connection. Did you configure the client? Does SQLPlus connect without issue?
There's also a known issue where running 32 bit client software on a 64 bit OS can result in that error in some versions, due to parenthesis in the path of the executable - 32 bit apps go in Program Files (x86) on a 64 bit OS. Applying the latest patch level to the client software will resolve that issue.

SRS Browser Role Cannot Access Shared Data Sources

I've created some reports using VS and shared data sources and deployed. I can run reports (I'm a domain admin), but users I've given system administrator roles within SRS cannot access shared data sources. However, if I embed the data source, everything
is fine. I'm pulling data from three different servers, so the shared data sources are somewhat important. I'm using SQL Native userid/passwords not windows authentication. Anybody got any ideas? I'm new to SRS. Thanks.

I’m confused about the meaning of “cannot access shared data sources”. Are you saying the user cannot see the Shared Data Sources in Report Server, but he can render the report well? Or the user cannot render the report well because he have no permission
to access shared data sources?
If in this first scenario, means that the role of the user have no permission to View data sources. To fix this issue, we can add View data sources task to the current role in SQL Server Management Studio.
If in the second scenario, it is so strange. In my test, I add Browser role of the report to one user which has no permission to access the shared data sources, but he can render the report which retrieve data from the shared data sources very well.
To troubleshooting this issue more efficiently, could you tell us the scenario you occurred and the error message you received? So that we can make further analysis and help you out.

If the SQL Server Integration Services is Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server 2008, we can use
Microsoft Connector Version 1.2 for Oracle to connect Oracle databases with version Oracle 9.2.0.4 or higher, Oracle 10.x or Oracle 11.x. If the SQL Server Integration Services is Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server 2012, we can use
Microsoft Connector Version 2.0 for Oracle to connect Oracle databases with version Oracle 9.2.0.4 or higher, Oracle 10.x or Oracle 11.x.
While if we want to connect to other Oracle version databases, we can use
OLE DB provider for Oracle which has been tested in SSIS labs and is recommended by Microsoft.

How to define data-sources-alias.xml to use Oracle data source

Hi,
I created Oracle jdbc Data Source named "MYDS" in Visual Admin. I added the alias = MYDS_ALIAS. I set the Initial Connection to 2. On the Monitor tab, I see a green line running across the screen. The datasource MYDS is connected to the Oracle.
Now, I would like to define "data-sources-alias.xml" to use MYDS.
When creating data-source-aliases.xml it creates the alias by default on ${com.sap.datasource.default} which is the default DB.
I followed the link --> How to point data-source-aliases.xml to another Datasource
and my data-sources-alias.xml is now:

Microsoft Access Text Driver missing! and ...Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)".

In order to use OpenRowSet, I installded Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010. However, I could not find Microsoft Access Text Driver in Drivers of ODBC Data Source Administrator. Could I get some help with that?

Powerpivot Data Refresh Not working with Oracle Data Source in sharePoint 2013

I created a simple Excel 2013 PPIV workbook with an oracle data source and uploaded that to SharePoint 2013, but no change in the results - still getting the above error.
What is this error? We have installed Oracle client (64-bit, since we use 64-bit Excel and Sp is also 64-bit) on SSAS PPIV Server and SharePoint Content DB Server. Do we need
to install it anywhere else?

Hi Sonal,
To use PowerPivot for SharePoint on SharePoint 2013, it is required to install PowerPivot for SharePoint with the Slipstream version of SQL Server 2012 SP1. If you install SQL Server 2012 and then use the upgrade version of SQL Server 2012 SP1 to upgrade,
the environment will not support SharePoint 2013.

Performance issue with Oracle data source

Hi all,
I've a rather strange problem that I'm stuck on need some assistance on.
I have a rules file which drags data in via an SQL data source thats an Oracle server. If I cut/paste the 3 sections of "select" "from" and "where" into SQL-Developer and run the query, it takes less than 1 second to complete. When I run the "load data" with this rule file or even use the "Retrieve" with the rules file edit, it takes up to an hour to complete/retrieve the data.
The table in question being used has millions of rows and I'm using one of the indexed fields to retrieve the data. It's as if the Essbase/Rule file is ognoring the index, or I have a config issue with the ODBC settings on the server that is causing the problem.

One other thing that I've seen is that if your Oracle data source and Essbase server are in different geographic locations, you can get some delay when it retrieves data over the WAN. I guess there is some handshaking going on when passing the data from Oracle to Essbase (either by record or groups of records) that is slowed WAY down over the WAN.
Our solution to this was remove teh query out of the load rule, run it via SQL+ on a command line at the geographic location where the Oracle database is, then ftp the resulting file to where the Essbase server is.
With upwards of 6 million records being retrieved, it took around 4 hours in the load rule, but running the query via command line took 10 minutes, then the ftp took less than 5.

Can SQL*Plus connect via ODBC to NON-Oracle data source?????

I am struggling to understand something. I downloaded Oracle instance client, SQL*Plus and ODBC components with the hopes of being able to connect via SQL*Plus to a non-Oracle/ODBC compliant database.
Is this possible? Or is SQL*Plus ability to connect via ODBC only to an Oracle data source??

sqlplus only connects to oracle. you can use the odbc driver from instant client to allow other applications to access oracle via odbc (e.g. excel). if you need to connect to non-oracle odbc database (ms-access, foxpro, etc.) you need odbc driver for those sources.
you can use sqldeveloper to connect to oracle and non-oracle databases. check otn product info for sqldeveloper for more details.

How to add a data-source.xml to the project to config DB connections and to be SCM'ed

I'd like to explicitly manage a data-sources.xml for my JSP + BC4J project.
Any helps on getting the released Jdev to add a data-source.xml that would then
be what the .ear deploys to OC4J?

Is this one of those gaps like the orion-application.xml file, that has no
solution at present?

CrystalReports error in XI 3.1 with Oracle Data Source

Having trouble running Crystal Reports with Oracle data source off XI 3.1 SP3. Reports hang through CMC or InfoView. Have no trouble on identical environment (presumably) with the same reports. Basically this happened after migration.
Report can be run on designer on the server box (suggesting the connection is good) however once uploaded to CMS, it hangs with error. This is not about an specific report only reports with Oracle Data source (Oracle client already installed and connection established)
Any comments appreciated.

Help with Creating a Oracle Data Source

I am trying to create a Oracle Data source.
I was successful in creating a JDBC Conection Pool.
But I am stumped creating a new datasource that uses the Oracle Connection Pool.
It asks for a JNDI Name and I have no clue what I should enter in this box.
Can somebody help me?

Enter whatever name suits you. This is the name you will use when looking up your datasource in the JNDI tree, i.e.

Using Oracle Data Source in SSIS using Attunity

Hi,
I am using the oracle data source in SSIS.
* Created the expression that will have query to select source column.
* I need to extract only rows having specific date. This date is a dynamic one i.e Created a variable1 which will be update by function call(return type is datetime) for time being i have assigned the
value(datetime type).
* I have created one more variable2(string type) which will extract only date(dd-mon-yyyy). Below is the query i used.

* In source query expression i have used the variable but it showing "as missing expression". Though i tried a lot i cant get. some one please help. Below is thquery
{select * from table_name where ud.system_date =@[User::Date]
and... }
I have tried different formats like enclosing that between quotes(shows same error), then used to_Date() in oracle again shows same error.
If i hard code the value instead of @[User::Date] means its working well.
SomeOne please help me why that error is showing. I cant able to figure out. trying for whole day. PLEASE.

Directly in the source component, or in the expressions property of the data flow?
