Universe, Crystal Report and WebI

hi There
i have a WebI report always fails due to transaction error even i didnot use "limit execution time" ( i didnot check that box, so i guess no limits on this option), then i create a CR report with same universe, i have no issue to get this report, it seems WebI takes more time to extract the data
can some one advise how i can fix this issue? i need WebI because it gives me multiple tab in an excel sheet
thanks

okay, thanks for clarifying.  We too suffer from "unwanted timeouts", e.g. we can run a report from a smaller, less populated table and the report finishes fine, however, running a report from a larger table, and if the run takes more than 2 minutes, we get a message that the server has disconnected and the report does not appear.  If we wait a while, like about three or four minutes and try again, we may get the report.  What is happening is that there is type of web proxy server in the network that waits for two minutes and if the web server does not get a response from the database server, then the proxy server intervenes and severs the connection.  Meanwhile, the database server continues the data run.  If we wait a few more minutes manually, and "break out" from the Webi session and re-navigate the folders, and run the report again, it will work.  What happens is that the database server finishes the run and caches the information.  If we can catch the database server before new cache appears, then the database server again forks the data over to the web server, and the Web Intelligence server, now having the data, produces the report as if there was no hard work involved.  I have used BusinessObjects for nearly three years now working under these conditions and no one in the network shop will confess which proxy server is doing the bad work and how to extend the time to at least five minutes versus two.  We have tried all concievable settings on the Business Objects servers but to no avail, the two minute timeout (we call it the two-minute drill) persists.
Thanks,
John

  • Crystal reports and web services

    Do crystal report and xcelcius need webservices?

    No, they don't 'need' web services.  Xcelsius uses Excel for it's data and you can use web services to load the Excel model with data, but it is not required.  CR has a variety of data connection options.
    Web services is a popular method of retrieving the most up-to-date data, but is not a requirement.
    Hope that helps,

  • Crystal Reports and Web applications.. what is the future?

    Hello,
    I currently create reports in Crystal 11 R2 and display them within my intranet application using an SDK and asp calls.
    I would like to know what the future holds for this method... what upgrade path do I have?
    Certainly I intend to keep things the way they are as we have a large number of reports but I would like to know what options I will have to investigate\be aware of for the future?
    I realise my question is a bit open ended...
    What does SAP\Business Objects\Crystal decsions advocate in this regard... what is their prefered methond of providing reporting for web type applications?
    PS. I am not interested in portals etc. The application provides paramters and DSN switching at run time within the application.
    Cheers,

    A team member here found this, I haven't read it, I'm not sure if our problems are related to this, but hopefully it helps someone:

    When Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is enabled, using the ActiveX control to print reports from a Crystal 10 DHTML viewer results in the following error message:
    "A communication error occurred, printing will be stopped."
    How can this error message be resolved?
    Resolution
    This is a known issue with Crystal Reports 10 and Crystal Enterprise 10 viewers and has been tracked. The Track ID is ADAPT00282199.
    This error occurs due to the receiving application performing a case-sensitive check for the HTTPS request header value "ON". When a sender application sends the value as "on" in lower case, the error occurs. The update below changes the receiving application to be case-insensitive.
    Hot Fixes or Service Packs address this issue as indicated below. With the updates, this issue is resolved.
    Unless indicated otherwise, Weekly Hot Fix updates from our FTP site have only been tested with English versions of products.
    For Crystal Reports 10 and Crystal Enterprise 10, the update for this issue is included in the Crystal 10 Viewers Weekly Hot Fix (WHF). This is available in English only at the following location:
    ftp://ftp.crystaldecisions.com/outgoing/EHF/viewers10win_en.zip
    This issue is addressed in the following components (and later versions):
    PageObjectModel.dll, version 10.0.5.785, dated 8/25/2004
    ReportRenderer.dll, version 10.0.5.785, dated 8/25/2004

  • Publishing crystal reports to web

    Can anyone give me an idea of how to publish the crystal reports to web. I know we need Crystal Reports Server for that. Apart from that what are the other steps.

    Hello,
    there are some solutions:
    - Deploy CR Server and than the users could access the Reports via InfoView (Web Portal of CRS)
    - Shedule the Report as 3rd Party format (pdf, xls, etc.) to a webserver like IIS or Tomcat so the users can view the report via a browser...but that would be very static
    - shedule the report to a network share and deploy CR Viewer to the Client PCs. So the users could view the .rpt format.

  • Crystal reports and adobe workflows server

    Hi,
    Is there a way to integrate crystal reports and adobe workflow server
    Regards
    Raja

    I believe AWS 6.2 supports Crystal Rpt 8.5, but don't hold be to it.
    The AWS appl. does come with prebuilt reports incl. You should check the documentation concerning installation, but I believe AWS requires the Crystal Engine to be installed on the same server as the AWS Web Access component.

  • Crystal reports and formatted reporting.

    hi experts,
    i have a clarification about  crystal reports and formatted reporting.in what scenarios they are used..
    points ll be rewarded...
    thanks
    baskar

    Hi ,
    Crystal Reports is a powerful, dynamic, actionable reporting solution that helps you design, explore, visualize, and deliver reports via the web or embedded in enterprise applications. It enables end users to consume reports with stunning visualizations, conduct on-report business modeling, and execute decisions instantly from the report itself—reducing dependency on IT and developers.
    The report can then be previewed on the screen, printed onto paper or exported to one of several different file formats such as PDF, Excel, text or CSV.
    It is also possible to run a Crystal Report without using the full Crystal Reports designer software. These alternate methods for running reports include locally installed viewers, schedulers, and report distribution tools. These are typically third-party software programs (independent of Business Objects) that allow you to open, refresh, preview, print and export an RPT file. In 2007 Business Objects released their own viewer, Crystal Reports Viewer XI, but unlike the independent viewers it does not allow the user to refresh the report, but only to view static data saved in the RPT file.
    Thnx,
    Srinivas

  • Reg: changing of Crystal Report to Webi

    Hi Gurus,
    We are having many Reporting tools  .

    Some (40) in Business Objects Web Intelligence.
    We would like to convert all of them to Web intelligence.
    Please suggest me the easiest way to change those Crystal Reports to Webi Reports.
    Quick Response is appreciated.

  • Crystal report vs Webi Report

    Hi Expert,
    My client  have WEBI and Crysal Report both installed in the system. They want to change all Bex reports to either in Crystal report or WEBI .
    My question is what all we need to consider while suggesting a particular type of report. When we should choose WEBI over crystal report?.
    Please answer me considering the fact that they are curently using BEX report in SAP BI environment.

    Hi
    Crystal is very flexble tool, if you want to use BW with crystal reports, you need to install SAP integration kit to get connected to your BeX queries and pull the data into report.
    If you need more secure environment you can go for WEBI reports, these reports can be based off a semantic layer wheich is very secured.
    Thanks,
    Sastry

  • What are crystal reports and dash baords?

    hello friends,
    what are crystal reports and dash baords?
    when they use?
    navagation steps for crystal reports and dash boards?
    bye
    srinu

    Hi Srinu,
    Crystal Reports:There are a lot of threads concerning Crystal Reports. Just make a search!
    Check this link:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/collaboration.sdn?contenttype=url&content=https%3A//forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa%3FforumID%3D43%26threadID%3D44917%26messageID%3D453030%23453030
    Dashboards:The Web report in BW each have specific URL. But for the users it is difficult to remember the URL.
    So they create a Dashbord which essentially displays the main page from where you can navigate to the report that you want. The dashboard typically may contain chart also. The dashboards are now designed in Enterprise Portal. The dashboard main page would be different for different users based on their role.
    Bye

  • Select multiple items from a list box as values for a parameter of crystal report and Oracle procedure

    -  I have a  Product list box (asp.net) used as multiple selected values for  a parameter.
    - The Product ID is defined in the Oracle procedure as NUMBER data type.
    -  In my crystal report, I have a parameter field allow multiple values as p_product_id type as Number.  This is the code in my Record Selection Formula for the report:
    ({?p_product_id}[1] = -1 OR {Procedure_name.product_id} in {p_product_id})
    -  In C#, this is my code
    List<decimal?> productUnit = new List<decimal?>();
    int counter = 0;
    decimal prod;
    for (int i = 0; i < lstProducts.Items.Count; i++)
                  if (lstProducts.Items[i].Selected)
                                if (decimal.TryParse(lstProduct.Items[i].Value, out prod))
                                    productUnit.Add((decimal?)prod);
                                    counter++;
           if (counter == 0)
                       productUnit.Add(-1);
    ReportingDAO rDataFactory = new ReportingDAO();
    retVal = rDataFactory.GetProductReport(productUnit);
    public CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument GetProductReport(List<decimal?> productUnit)
              CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument retVal = new rptProductDownload();
              ReportLogon rptLog = new ReportLogon();
             rptLog.Logon(retVal, "RPT_PRODUCT_DOWNLOAD");
             retVal.SetParameterValue("p_product_id", productUnit);
    I keep having the "Value does not fall within the expected range" when I debug.  My question is, is the data type I used for procedure/Crystal report/ and C# correct ?  I always have problem with the data type.  Any help would be
