Universe on Bex Query with Condition

Hi,
I'm working on creating a WebI version of a Bex Report. I've created a universe on top of the Bex Query and then a WebI report based on the Universe. The Bex Query contains 4 conditions. They allow optional filtering of two measures, Less Then or Equal and Greater Then or Equal. The conditions are applied at the employee level of the results set, so for example, if an employee's total sales is greater than 50 and the user enters 50 for the condition then none of that employee's rows of data will appear.
A single filter was created in teh Universe containing all four conditions. I had to update the syntax as they were all brought in using Equals instead of the GreaterorEqual and LessOrEqual. I also updated the filter key to use the @Select and the correct dimension.
In the WebI report, only the two using LessOrEqual are functional. The two conditions that utilize GreaterOrEqual will only remove individual rows, not the enter set of rows for that employee. I've set the aggregation to sum instead of Database Delegated for the two affected measures.
If anyone has any input on how to get the GreaterOrEqual conditions functioning properly, or a workaround that will remove all rows for an employee when their sales are not above a cert number, it would be greatly appreciated.

SubStr function in Universe on BEx Query

Hi SAP BO experts,
We have a universe based on SAP BEx Query with an object "WBS Element", a 24 Character field from which we need to resolve certain sections as different objects for reporting purpose. One of the objects required is first 8 chars (WBS Project No.) Following code is used in object definition.
<EXPRESSION>Substr(@Select(WBS Element\WBS Element), 1, 8)</EXPRESSION>
Parsing is OK at universe level.
Webi query without "WBS Project No" is running OK but when "WBS Project No" is used, I get an error - invalid MDX command (WIS 10901).
What is the correct syntax? Any input will be appreciated.

You can-not return characteristics via <EXPRESSION> tag.
In fact right now it is not possible to do substring and similar operations. You can only create objects which returns numeric
value.

Performance of APD with source as 'Query with conditions'

Hi,
I have a question regarding the performance of an APD query with conditions when it is run in the background.
I have an infocube with 80 million records.I have a query to find Top 15 (Condition In query) Customers per territory.
With the help of an APD Query (Source) i wanted to populate the details (customer category , etc) of the Top 15 Customers into a DSO (Target)
Right now it takes 6 minutes to run the query in web.
I wanted to know how feasible it is to use an APD (run in backgrnd) to dump the results of the BEx query (which has conditions Top 15) into DSO.
Also , what other options do i have ?

Thomas thanks for the response. I have checked the file on the app server and found that the lines with more than 512 characters are being truncated after 512 characters. Basis team is not aware of any such limits on the app server. I am sure few on the forum would have extracted data to a file on the application server using APD. Please note that the file extraction to the client workstation is working as expected (posts lines more than 512 characters).

Report on BEx query with 2 structures (one in rows and one in columns)

Hi, experts! I have to make Crystall report on BEx query with 2 structures, one in columns (with KF's), and one in rows. Is it possible to create such report? Because when I create such report, I cant see fields in structures, only characteristics fields.

Happy to hear that its working now.
Answering your question, again its upto the connection and report format you are using. Based on your question i hope you your report output should be like this.
You cannot map to two labels for the series, again this report format is possible only in cross tab through Webi. I would suggest you to concatenate the material and month in a dimension in webi like below.
I have done the concatenation in excel level, i would suggest you to do that in webi. Try to reduce the formula as much in excel.
or
If you are using Query browser connection, then i would suggest you to create a separate report which will display the actual vs plan material wise, here you need to pass the material as a prompt.

E.g. I've got this table

the new column "price" has to calculate: (End-Start)* $25.00

the "price" column has to calculate: (End-Start)* $20.60

I tried it with the case statement but I didn't know how
to calculate my values and display it to the virtual column "price".
Something like

Or is it not possible?

Universe on BEX query - Measures Question !!

Hello All,
I am building a Universe on BEx Query.
We have the following environment:
SAP BOE XI 3.1 SP2 FIX Pack 2.5
Integration KIT SP2 FIX PACK 2.5
SAP BW 701 Level 6
I see that in the BEX query the KF have technical names as "ZZRKF_Amount".
But, when this query is brought into Universe, I see the tech names as
[[4J922TWKO24NHTROOEY3WXK72]].[[4J922URARWJHKBXHBR7H15F26]]
I would like to see this as [[MEASURE]].[[ZZRKF_Amount]].
Does anyone know how to do it?

In the Universe Designer, select Tools ->options. In the OLAP tab, there is option to select as generate technical names as details.

Refreshing Hierarchy node variable in BEx query with change in hierarchy

Hi all,
We have used a hierarchy node variable on Characteristic ZECCSAC (user-defined) and used it in a BEx query with default value set to a particular node value. Upto this, it is working fine.
The hierarchy used in the query, with the hierarchy node variable, was later changed ( and in future it can undergo changes ). Since the number of records in the hierarchy are changing, the nodenames of the hierarchy nodes are changing. But the hier node variable default value is still set to the earlier nodename for that node description. So at runtime it is giving an error "ECCS Account Number is invalid"!
Can anyone suggest how to refresh a hierarchy node variable default value each time a query is run so that the latest nodename is always taken ?

BO Universe on BeX Query in Lumira

Hi All,
I have a requirement of accessing a BeX query in Lumira and do visualizations on it. As Lumira is not capable of accessing BeX query directly, I think, I would need to create a universe on InfoCube, for that BeX query, and then consume that universe in Lumira. Thereafter, I would need to create different datasets for different queries.
Now, I have two questions:
1. Is this approach correct? Is there any other more efficient methos than this?
2. Can I create a universe on BeX query directly? Is it possible?
When I'm following first approach (universe on InfoCube using IDT) and trying to consume that universe in Lumira, I am getting below error:
And when I'm following 2nd approach (universe on BeX query using UDT), I am not able to view that .unv in List of Available universes in Lumira.
Please help.

Explanation on the error you faced:
The data acquisition of medium-large, large, and very large datasets from UNV or UNX universes is not supported on default installations of both SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platforms 4.0 and 4.1.
It is recommended for customers that want to acquire such datasets to install a SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform (SAP BIP) server dedicated to SAP Lumira and significantly increase the value of the Maximum Character Stream Size of the Web Intelligence Processing Server on that particular server. Note that increasing this value on a running SAP BIP server can impact the memory consumption and performance of any BI clients tool running on that installation, particularly Web Intelligence. While this practice is not formally discouraged, we advise customers implementing this solution that they might face memory consumption increases and longer document data refreshes so they will need to monitor the SAP BIP server's behavior adequately to control the impacts.
Can you try to place some filters to limit the data volume retrieved?

BEx query with variant from ABAP

Hello,
I'm looking for possibility to start BEx query with variant (variant is created with tx RSRT) from ABAP. There are some funktion modules, which start queries (launch excel), for example RSAH_LAUNCH_EXCEL or RSSEM_QUERY_LAUNCH, but they are ending with short dump, when there are variables in the query. Is there any standard FM, which starts the query with variant or accepts parameters?

the short dump was my fault, I've passed query name instead of genuniid to the RSAH_LAUNCH_EXCEL.
What I'm trying to do is to I'll start BEx query with parameters (I don't want to get selection-screen from the query, I need to fill it from ABAP).

BEx query with keyfigure rank in row, chars and other keyfigures in columns

Hi All,
    I have a BEx query with Plant and Region in rows and two keyfigures(% and rank calculation) in the column. Now my requirement is to display rank in the first column, plant and % cal. in the next columns in query output.
Query ouput should look like :
rank plant %
1     XYZ    63.00
2    ABC   76.94 and soon.
Is any way possible to achieve this and if yes can anyone explain in detail with steps, I apprecaite your help with points.

Refresh BEx-Query with variant

Dear all,
i have a question about refreshing Queries with variants.
To refresh a BEx-Query (BW3.5) in a Workbook with VBA is no problem.
For example:
Run "SAPBEX.XLA!SAPBEXrefresh", False, myRange
But is there a possibilty to refresh a BEx-Query with a variant (also with VBA)?
My target is to create a VBA-Tool:
1 which user can select a single Query and the available variant.
2 Then push a VBA-Button
3 After the selection no Variable-Screen will pop-up
and the refreshing is completed.

What i need is to refresh a Query with variant (saved variable-values for a query e.g. the name of the variant is "ZMYVARIABLES").
The user should not select an existing variant (ZMYVARIABLES)
manually with Shift+F5 (Get Variant) on the Query-Variable POPUP-Screen.
What i need is a codefragment which implement that all.

MDX for a BEx query with a characteristic structure

I have a BEx query with a characteristic structure in the rows.
Material     Structure     Measure1

I am looking to run the query via MDX. Is that possible? If yes, how should be the mdx statement.

it will work, so long as you also include the Structure object in the WebI Query panel as a results objects.
the SELECT syntax is much the same as a 'normal' MDX statement.
the quickest way to tell them appart is how the Measures are called. normally, it starts:   SELECT [MEASURE.ABC123] NONEMPTY(CROSSJOIN( ...   ) )
however, when you have a Structure, all the declarations from the start of the statement looks like : SELECT [ABC123.ABC123] NONEMPTY(CROSSJOIN( ...   ) )

SBO SQL-parser sometimes kidding. My solution is to use temptables/views/storedprocedures.
It's faster then "unbugging" parser <b>:)</b>
in your case that can be like the following:
SELECT T0.CardCode INTO #temp FROM OCRD T0 WHERE T0.CardCode = N'[%0]'
SELECT qq.CardCode FROM #temp qq FOR BROWSE
BTW: registration data error is usially says us about %-argument reason

SAP BEx query's Conditions and Exceptions on BO Universe

We are planning to create Conditions and Exception on SAP BEx Query. And provide this query to BO team for their development
Could anyone tell me in what form will these BEx objects be visible in BO-Universe ....as detail objects...or query filters and a.s.o?
Will they be Invisible? If invisible will they be atleast applied to BO-Universe.
For e,g: I know that, BEx Query filter will be applied to the underlying query but are not visible in OLAP universe.

Hi,
Conditions and Excpetions are not supported by OLAP BAPI tehrefore they are not generated in universes or consumed at query level.
You have to create conditions on measures in universes (except top end bottom exceptions that are not supported).
Exceptions need to be done at cliient level (Webi, XCelsius, etc).
I BOE CI 4.0 conditions will be supporte by the Semantic Layer direct acces with BICS but exceptions will continue to be created at client level.
