Update apex report using checkboxes

I have searched the forums for some answers but couldn't find too much for my particular problem, even though my problem may seem somewhat basic. So I have a classic report that has some information. Each row of information is lead by a checkbox. The query for the report is:
Select first_name, last_name, title, person_id
From Persons
where name = 'Mike'
The person_id column is displayed as a simple checkbox which I have defaulted to be checked (checked="checked" in the element attributes section of the actual report column). I am looking to update this report. When a user see's the report, they should be able to uncheck some of the check boxes at the beginning of each row. Once they are done unchecking the selected rows, they should be able to click a 'Submit' button that takes them to the updated report with the rows that they left checked. It doesn't neccessarily have to be a new page, more so, like a page refresh. I'm not sure how to accomplish this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How to fetch data to APEX Report using stored procedure?

    hi all,
    i am making a report in APEX. user selects two dates and clicks GO button - i have a Stored Procedure linked to that result region so Stored Procedure gets called.
    my stored procedure does the following -
    using specified dates (IN) i do query and put data into a table (this table has been created only for this report) -
    i want to show all these data i entered into the table on my APEX report in the same procedure call. can i use ref cursor to return? how to do that?
    currently, i use another button in APEX which basically fetches all data from table. basically, user clicks one button to generate report and then another button to get report. which is not desirable at all :(
    i m using APEX      3.1.2.00.02 and Oracle 10 database.
    pls let me know if you need further clarification of the problem. thanks in advance.

  • Launching public APEX report using URL ...

    Greetings:
    I simply want to launch a public APEX report from other non-APEX applications. However, I'm having a difficult time formulating the url when there are parameters involved.
    This simple URL works fine:
    http://dqapps40:8091/pls/apex/f?p=108:1
    to launch the report, but if I want to include parameters which may or may not include values, i cant seem to get it to work. What format do I use to include the parameter list? Here are the parameters:
    P1_EMPLOYEES,P1_ORG_LOV,P1_SELECT_ACTIVE_APPROVERS,P1_ACTIVE_INACTIVE_ORGS:%2C32%25%2CACTIVE_ONLY%2CACTIVE_ONLY
    Here is the full URL when run from within APEX developer:

  • Update multiple records using checkbox

    Hi All,
    I have one requirement related to multiple record update using checkbox.
    HTML form has 6 columns and many rows.
    Now i want to update all 6 columns in the table for selected checkbox.
    Can any body give me some idea/code about this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ravi

    I did not understand your idea.
    multiple columns can be updated as follows...
    update table set col1=value,col2=value,col3=value where conditions;
    We are using adodb driver in our environment. So I will explain concern to it. Store all the form new values in $var array and you can pass this $var to query execution.
    A vague idea
    $rs = $conn->Execute($update_sql,$var);
    if ($rs===false) die('DB Error: '. $conn->ErrorMsg() );

    Hi,
    I am fairly new to JSF so please bear with me if the answer is obvious :D. I'm using a dataTable component to display data from a database and would like to add a commandLink component to every row in the table that deletes that row from the database. What is the most effective way of doing this?
    I'm thinking of using a ListDataModel with some function that removes the correct row (though I'm not sure how it will tie in with a commandLink and exactly where the database will be updated). I'll appreciate any pointers or perhaps even an online example of something similar.
    Alternatively I suppose you could pass an "id" parameter on with the commandLink that somehow gets read in the request and the appropriate row is removed accordingly. This solution seems cumbersome however.Yes, your instincts are correct there. Binding the data model to a backing bean to get the UIData instance for the table. Then use UIData.getRowData() to get the object corresponding to the row containing the link/button. Then execute your business logic to delete the row from the database. Then you need to ensure the data model is updated to reflect the new state of the database.

  • Report with Checkbox

    I am trying to follow the example shown at the below link but it is not working. I am modifying some of the code since I am using version 1.6. Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong. The checkbox appears and I can select and deselect items but I cannot get P6_HOLDER to hold any of the values of the selected items. Thanks!
    http://apex-smb.blogspot.com/2009/01/apex-report-with-checkboxes-advanced.html
    First I created a page item called P6_HOLDER.
    Next I created a report region (sequence 40) with the below code.
    select htmldb_item.checkbox (1, dev_obj_id, 'onchange="spCheckChange(this);"',
    :P6_HOLDER, ':') checkbox, dev_id, dev_obj_desc from edm_dev_obj where
    dev_id = :P6_TEMP_DEV_ID
    **I then created a html region (sequence 1) with the below code**
    <SCRIPT src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></SCRIPT>
    <SCRIPT>
    // Load jQuery
    google.load("jquery", "1.2.6", {uncompressed:true});
    function spCheckChange(pThis){
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$v('pFlowId'),'APPLICATION_PROCESS=CHECKBOX_CHANGE',$v('pFlowStepId'));
    get.addParam('f01',pThis.value); //Value that was checked
    get.addParam('f02',pThis.checked ? 'Y':'N'); // Checked Flag
    gReturn = get.get();
    $f('checkListDisp').innerHTML=gReturn;
    </SCRIPT>
    CHECKBOX List:
    <DIV id=checkListDisp>&P6_HOLDER.</DIV>
    I then created an application process on Demand called CHECKBOX_CHANGE with the below code
    DECLARE
    v_item_val NUMBER := htmldb_application.g_f01;
    v_checked_flag VARCHAR2 (1) := htmldb_application.g_f02;
    BEGIN
    IF v_checked_flag = 'Y' THEN
    -- Add to the list
    IF :P6_HOLDER IS NULL THEN
    :P6_HOLDER := ':' || v_item_val || ':';
    ELSE
    :P6_HOLDER := :P6_HOLDER || v_item_val || ':';
    END IF;
    ELSE
    -- Remove from the list
    :P6_HOLDER := REPLACE (:P6_HOLDER, ':' || v_item_val || ':', ':');
    END IF;
    -- Just for testing
    HTP.p (:P6_HOLDER);
    END;

    Hi
    Create a page level validation (fucntion returning boolean) and write code similar to following
    DECLARE
    v_count NUMBER := 0;
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT LOOP
    IF APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01(i) IS NOT NULL THEN
    v_count := v_count + 1;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    IF v_count = 0 THEN
    RETURN TRUE;
    ELSE
    RETURN FALSE;
    END IF;
    END;I take it your report query is similar to following
    select apex_item.checkbox(1,"PK_CLMN") Tick, col2, col3 FROM tbl_nameCheers,

  • ORA-01858 error from Apex Report on working/valid underlying query

    After two days of searching these forums and AskTom, I think I need to post the following problem.
    I have what seems to be a valid view of some data created as follows (with an apology for the formatting - doesn't seem to be a way of using a fixed font here):

    This view works, ie produces the right results when run (ie select * from ...) in SQL Developer and in the SQL Workshop section of Apex.
    But when I attempt to produce an Apex report using it as the source of data, I get the following error:
    ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
    The error is displayed before any part of the report itself is displayed, ie the Region Header is displayed and then the error message.
    So far, anything I've been able to find on the forums or AskTom suggests that it is probably due to a date conversion problem. But the aim here is to summarise dated records by month, so I'm extracted the year and month elements of the date values, converting them to strings (using TO_CHAR), and then using the resulting 'Mon-YY' strings to group the results.
    If there is a better way, I'm interested.
    But I don't understand why Apex seems to be rejecting what appear to be valid results from a valid working query.
    Any ideas? Suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Peter

    Thanks again, Flavio. I'm learning and I appreciate your patience.
    The solution you provided is very similar to the one I came up with after your previous message, but I didn't have the NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE parameter. I'll go back and try it.
    I appreciate your explanation re Apex not needing to know and Oracle assuming that the client knows what it is doing, but it puzzles me more.
    The way that I originally had things, I think, was consistent with what you have explained, but it didn't work. To make it clear:
    1 I had an Oracle view that had no parameters and contained the date literal in the where clause and worked fine in both SQL Developer and in the Apex SQL Workshop.
    2 The view did not return any date values. Aside from the column headings and the first column (of character strings), the body of the table comprised integer values only.
    3 So, when Apex called the view, I would have expected the Oracle server to independently execute the view and return the (dateless) results to Apex, which would then present the unmodified results in a standard report. This is, I think, what SQL Developer and the Apex SQL Workshop appear to have successfully done.
    My expectation seems to be consistent with at least some of your explanation (ie [Oracle assumes] "+that the client knows what it is doing+" and "+apex doesn't need to know anything about the underlying query+"), but is not consistent with actual experience, where Apex seems to know that the underlying query contains a date literal and unsuccessfully (and unnecessarily) attempts to interpret it.
    I'm obviously missing something about how Apex and Oracle interact in this situation. While I don't need to know - as I have a working solution now - it is valuable to understand how things work. Makes life easier and more productive.
    Cheers,
    Peter

  • Apex report performance is very poor with apex_item.checkbox row selector.

    Hi,
    I'm working on a report that includes some functionality to be able to select multiple records for further processing.
    The report is based on a view that contains a couple of hundred thousand records.
    When i make a selection from this view in sqlplus , the performance is acceptable but the apex report based on the same view performes very poorly.
    I've noticed that when i omit the apex_item.checkbox from my report query, performance is on par with sqlplus. (factor 10 or so quicker).
    Explain plan appears to be the same with or without checkbox function in the select.
    My query is:
    select apex_item.checkbox(1,tan_id) Select ,
    brt_id
    , tan_id
    , message_id
    , conversation_id
    , action
    , to_acn_code
    , information
    , brt_created
    , tan_created
    from (SELECT brt.id brt_id, -- view query
    MAX (TAN.id) tan_id,
    brt.message_id,
    brt.conversation_id,
    brt.action,
    TAN.to_acn_code,
    TAN.information,
    brt.created brt_created,
    TAN.created tan_created
    FROM (SELECT brt_id, id, to_acn_code, information, created
    FROM xxcjib_transactions
    WHERE tan_type = 'DELIVER' AND status = 'FINISHED') TAN,
    xxcjib_berichten brt
    WHERE brt.id = TAN.brt_id
    GROUP BY brt.id,
    brt.message_id,
    brt.conversation_id,
    brt.action,
    TAN.to_acn_code,
    TAN.information,
    brt.created,
    TAN.created)
    What could be the reason for the poor performance of the apex report?
    And is there another way to select multiple report records without the apex_item.checkbox function?
    I'm using apex 3.2 on oracle 10g database.
    Thanks,
    Niels Ingen Housz

    Thanks for your reply.
    Unfortunately changing the pagination doesnt make much of a difference in this case.
    Without the checkbox the query takes 2 seconds.
    With checkbox it takes well over 30 seconds.
    The second report region on this page based on another view seems to perform reasonably well with or without the checkbox.
    It has about the same number of records but with a different view query.
    There are also a couple of filter items in the where clause of the report queries (same for both reports) based on date and acn_code and both reports have a selectlist item displayed in their regions based on a simple lov. These filter items don't seem to be of influence on the performance.
    I have also recreated the report on a seperate page without any other page items or where clause and the same thing occurs.
    With the checkbox its very very slow (more like 20 times slower).
    Without it , the report performs well.
    And another thing, when i run the page with debug on i don't see the actual report query:
    0.08: show report
    0.08: determine column headings
    0.08: activate sort
    0.08: parse query as: APEX_CMA_ONT
    0.09: print column headings
    0.09: rows loop: 30 row(s)
    and then the region is displayed.
    I am using databaselinks in the views b.t.w

  • Stored Procedure used as a data source for an Apex report

    Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and update your profile with a real handle instead of "920338".
    When you have a problem you'll get a faster, more effective response by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
    <li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
    <li>Theme
    <li>Template(s)
    <li>Region/item type(s)
    With APEX we're also fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.
    Just wondering whether anyone has used a Stored Procedure as the data source for an Apex report. An option to select Stored Procedures(s) as the data source does not appear within the IDE (only displays Table, Views, Functions).
    Do you have to return the definition of the Stored Procedure via a function ... if so, how is this done ? When asking a question about "reports" it's firstly essential to differentiate between standard and interactive reports. Standard reports can be based on tables, views, SQL queries, or PL/SQL function blocks that return the text of a SQL query. Interactive reports can only be based on a SQL query.
    "Stored Procedures" are therefore not an option (unless you are using the term loosely to describe any PL/SQL program unit located in the database, thus including functions). What would a procedure used as the source of a report actually do? Hypothetically, by what mechanisms would the procedure (a) capture/select/generate data; and (b) make this data available for use in an APEX report? Why do you want to base a report on a procedure?

  • Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report using Page Zero

    Hi,
    I want to implement an «Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report» using a «page zero».
    I recently migrate from Apex 3.1 to Apex 4.2 and my «Custom pagination for APEX 3.1 interactive report» using a «page zero»  is not working any more.
    So now I try to adapt an excellent example of Jari Laine for 4.0 but using a page zero.
    I put the code JavaScript to Page zero but I must create an dynamic action to fire only for an interactive report region.
    It’s a good idea?
    Thank you

    Thought I would try once more with my DatePicker question.
    On the Apex.Oracle.Com website I have created a 1 page application that has an Interactive Report.
    [url http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=15655:1]
    user = 'test'
    password = 'test'
    I have 2 questions :
    (1) In IE7, press 'Actions', 'Filter'. On the Column dropdown list, select 'Order Timestamp'.
    Notice the prompt icon to the right of the 'expression'. This should change to the Datepicker, but in IE7 it does not. Try the samething in Firefox or Chrome and the Datepicker will appear.
    Is this a BUG, or does Apex 4.02 not support IE7 ?
    (2) In Firefox or Chrome, where you can now see the Datepicker, you will notice that it is the new style picker, not the old style ( called 'classic' ). I want to change it so that it shows the 'classic' datepicker not the new, but cannot see how to do it, if indeed you actually can.
    I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look and let me know if I am going mad, or if we need to get all our users onto IE8. We have now gone live with Apex 4.02 and need to resolve these issues.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to add a new record in updatable report using apex_item

    Hi,
    i am using an updatable report using the following select
    select
    aPEX_ITEM.POPUP_FROM_QUERY(2,emp_code,
    ' SELECT emp_surname, emp_code FROM hrm_employee ' ,null,null,null,null,null,'onchange="f_set_multi_items_tabular(this.value ''#ROWNUM#'''
    || ')"',null,null,null) PF_No,
    apex_item.text (32,
    NULL,
    80,
    100,
    'style="width:190px" ',
    'f11_' || '#ROWNUM#'
    ) Name,
    " REST_DATE",
    "REMARKS",
    from "roster"
    when i click on the button add row , only the column rest_date and the remarks are enable.
    why is the apex_item.text and apex_item_popup_from_query is disable ? and how i can make it enable.
    thanks
    regards
    jerry

    I could see that you are using the addRow() function to generate new blank row.
    I guess, this function(used by the builtin tabular form s) , identifies editable columns when they are marked so at the report column attributes.
    When you use apex_item API, it expects the columns to be standard report column and hence render the new rows as such.
    Some one from the development team might be able to give a better answer on that.
    As for avoiding this issue
    <li>One method , would be to define the columns editable(and display types) in report column attributes.
    <li> You can duplicate the last row using jQuery( *$('tr.highlight-row:last).after( $('tr.highlight-row:last).clone() )* ) and removing the field values, but events(for example datepicker) would remain attached to the original row , so it isn't very straightforward either.
    <li>If you want to use apex_item you would have to use a pseudo union to DUAL for generating a blank row and re-render the report either by a page load or a Dynamic Action. Sounds like a nice idea for a plugin.
    Now , if you want to add rows multiple times without saving them, then you would need to store the values in a collection at load and update the collection before adding the row.

  • ApEx BIP report using webservice: could not convert null to bean field

    Seems like a pretty straightforward problem but I don't manage to find a solution.
    I have a BI Suite implementation on one server.
    And a database with ApEx on another server.
    I want to call a BIP report from within my ApEx application using the webservices (runReport) available in BIP 11g.
    I used soapUI to test my webservice. Result : OK
    When called from within ApEx, ApEx gives me a succes message but the report isn't generated. Instead the console on the BIP server shows the following error:
    <Sep 12, 2012 10:28:37 PM BST> <Error> <org.apache.axis.encoding.ser.BeanPropert
    yTarget> <BEA-000000> <Could not convert null to bean field 'sizeOfDataChunkDown
    load', type int>
    'sizeOfDataChunkDownload' is a field of the webservice that is left empty.
    That indeed is the only difference between my soapUI test and the ApEx situation.
    In soapUI I removed all empty fields. In ApEx this does not seem possible...
    Some extra information:
    - the webservice is created on this WSDL : /xmlpserver/services/v2/ReportService?wsdl
    - it's defined as a SOAP v2
    - no basic authentication
    - the reports are defined in the BIP environment; not in ApEx

    I overlooked a not nillable field...
