Updating a database record

I am trying to update a database record using the following :-
update adv_order_progress set adv_action_out = to_char(sysdate, 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') where adv_order_progress.adv_order_id = :adv_order.adv_order_id and adv_order_progress.adv_ord_number = :adv_order.adv_ord_number;
at trigger WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED but it doesn't update any at all. When I do the same from ISQL*plus it worked fine !!.
would you please advise

did you only have ISQL for testing it?
Can you debug the form and look, if someone happens - exceptions, ... ?
after the update you can use
message (SQL%ROWCOUNT); pause ;
to look, how many records were updated

  • Access is not inserting, updating or deleting records in my database table on the server

    I am having a problem with an application I developed using Dreamweaver 8 and Access 2000 several years ago which is no longer working correctly. The problem is that Access is not inserting, updating or deleting records in my database table on the server but is reflected in changes to my Web site. I used the Dreamweaver server behaviors: insert record, update record and delete record to make the changes to my Access table on the server. My Access table on the server shows all of the records I inserted or updated in the past, but not any of the newly inserted on updated records.
    does any one have any ideas as to what my problem is?
    Jim

    No, that has nothing to do with your problem. Let's make sure I understand the symptoms.
    1) Your site is online at a remote host.
    2) You use a dynamic page in your online site to update a database record (insert, delete, or update)
    3) The update then appears correctly on your dynamic content page.
    4) You download the mdb and it appears to not have any of the upates you just made.
    Please correct any of these statements if they are wrong.
    If the above is correct, then you must be looking at a cached mdb, or the mdb you are looking at is in the wrong location. Do this: search your entire drive for copies of the mdb, including in the Windows temp directories which is likely where the cached copy is located. Delete any extra copies and download again.

  • Update database records

    Hello,
    I am in the process of updating 100,000 records using Oracle 9i. Currently I am reading all records from the database using .NET, read the CLOB(which contains XML file) field and find and replace the text and updating each one. At the end I committed a transaction. But it's displaying rollback errors. Could you please help with this problem? Thanks..

    Exact error please. Error number plus text.
    From the sounds of it, your database's rollback area is too small. This is at times the case as some see this area as an "additional overhead" to Oracle and size it incorrectly. Rollbacks are a critical component of Oracle - not an overhead. And thus needs to be sized correctly.
    It also needs to be used correctly - for example committing after each row (and not at the end of the business transaction) can generate a lot more redo.
    But we need the actual error number.

  • HELP! ISSUE UPDATING DATABASE RECORDS

    Hi All
    Thank you for looking at my post.
    I have a form which interacts with a SQL database.
    The process starts with one member of the team partially completing the form and submitting this.
    xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.addnew(); on form initiaise function
    then
    xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.update(); on the submit button.
    This process works great.
    The next member of the team then gets the information by entering the requirement in two textboxes.
    var nIndex = 0;
    while(xfa.sourceSet.nodes.item(nIndex).name != "DataConnection")
    nIndex++;
    var oDB = xfa.sourceSet.nodes.item(nIndex).clone(1);
    oDB.nodes.item(1).query.setAttribute("text", "commandType");
    oDB.nodes.item(1).query.select.nodes.item(0).value = "Select * from repairform where (A4 = '" + TextField11.rawValue + "') & (A5 = '" + TextField12.rawValue + "')";
    oDB.open();
    oDB.close();
    This then populates the form with the record relating to the search term including the partially completed information from the previous team member.
    The user then poplulates the rest of the form and suibmits
    xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.update();
    This is where is fall down....
    On the final submission the form seems to update first record in the database not the one that is currently showing.
    I am relatively new to this so it may be me doing something stupid.
    Please help.

    Hi Paul
    Sorry, I now understand the global sripting
    My only issue now is updating the record.
    I can get the form to grab the information using the global variable
    I am just not sure how to update the record as xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.update(); does not work (well it still updates the first record).
    Do I still have to close the oDB from the first call to grab the specific record and then re-open odb when I want to update or leave it open the whole time?
    Do I have to create an SQL command (such as the select command given when searching for a record) to update the records manually?
    e.g. UPDATE formname SET etc etc
    as this would be a long process with 122 data fields.
    any thoughts to finish this process off would be greatly appreciated.

  • Update database record from email link or attachment ?

    Hello,
    Is there any way to send email from application with a link to update database record (like oracle workflow in selfservice).
    This is applied for approval process.
    Rather than the approval will log onto the application, he will click on the attachment or link then the update statement will fire.
    Is it  possible?

    You didn't add a forms version, so this is hard to guess. If you are on 10g and higher then you are using Oracle Application Server; in the installation there is the mod_plsql apache module included as well:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14010/concept.htm
    so you could simply call a stored procedure via a HTTP request which updates your record. If you are on a lower version of forms you could make use of the free mod_owa module which you could configure with a plain apache installation on e.g. your database server: https://oss.oracle.com/projects/mod_owa/dist/documentation/modowa.htm
    you should implement some sort of authentication as well; both mod_owa and mod_plsql also have the facility to do so via +owa_custom+
    OWA_CUSTOM
    (see the OwaAuth directive in mod_owa for example).
    Of course you could do the very same via a custom Java Servlet; however you'd have to implement the database connection pool, the call of your stored procedure, the authentication e.g. as well which you would get for free with the apache modules.
    cheers

  • How do I update all the records in a table from the contents of another table?

    Ok some situation information, I have a pervasive database that runs our accounting software that I am pulling a product list from.  I have that list stored in a table in SQL.  From time to time we update the records in the pervasive database and
    I want to be able to pull those changes into the SQL table.  I don't want to drop the table and recreate it because if a product is no longer active in the pervasive database it will not be returned by the query (if I return all the products even the
    inactive ones I will get thousands of records rather than just a few hundred) and I do not want to loose the products from the table that are now inactive.
    So what I want to be able to do is pull the list from pervasive, compare it to the list that exists in SQL and update any changed records, add any new records, and leave any now missing records alone(missing from the pervasive list but present in the SQL
    list).  I have no trouble pulling the records from pervasive (now) but I am a little stumped on how to do the rest.  I am not sure if this is a situation to use MERGE or not.  I also do not really need this to be done on a regular basis as the
    changes do not happen often enough for that, the ability to manually trigger it would be enough.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    David

    Hi David,
    lets say you want to go with the lookup transformation.
    lets say u want to move the data from server A table A1 to Server B table B1
    What you need to do is the following:
    Cofigure the Lookup options as follows:
    - In general -> Specify how to handle rows with no macthing entries -> "Redirect Rows to no Match Output"
    -  In Connection -> Set the ole db connection to the Server B and select the table B you want to lookup the values in your case the table where you want to input the changes
    -  In columns -> link the product column from table A to product column in table B. And do not select any rows to output.
    - now your component is ready next you need to input. so when u connect your lookup to the destination component You will get an option to select which output you want to use - use "Lookup No Match Output".
    this will actually just allow you to add only new items only to the table B.

  • Data not updating in database

    Friends i have table and i have created a sequence on basis of that table.
    For 1st page i have created an html region and made few items there and a save button.
    I am filling data to the fields in page 1 and clicking the save button. In save button i have passed the address of the items of 1st page to items of 2nd page which contains the same field of page 1 and few more additional field.
    the 2nd page which i have made is on basis of form on a table or view and taken exsisting sequence there. When i clicking the submit button in page 2 it is not updating my database and throwing error called unable to fetch row. Any suggestions on this?

    Lev addition to this i wanted when my create button in 2nd page get clicks my database gets updated and also a query runs which checks the same data of combination variant_type,model_code,year_manuafacture. It means if i have 2 records in database with same variant_type,model_code,year_manufacture then in the field how_many in page 2 count of 3 gets updated and the other field solution avaiable get updated with Y.
    For this in my local system in page 2 i created a plsql process and wrote this code and applied it with create button but its not working. Any idea where i am failing?
    Declare
    l_how_many Number;
    l_sol_av Varchar2(1):= NULL;
    Begin
    select count(*)
    into l_how_many
    from quality

    and model_code = :P2_MODEL_CODE --'6'
    and year_manufacture= :P2_YEAR_MANUFACTURE  ; --'2000'
    If l_how_many=null then
        l_sol_av := 'N' ;
    else
        l_sol_av := 'Y';
    end If ;
    :P2_SOLUTION_AVAILABLE := l_sol_av;

  • JDBC adapter - no UPDATE to database

    Hi,
    I have the scenario ABAP Proxy to XI to JDBC to read some data from a database and return some info back to BW. Is it mandatory to UPDATE the selected records in some way or can the UPDATE part of the adapter be disabled by putting something in the UPDATE parameter on the comm channel ?
    Cheers
    Colin.

    Hi Colin,
    if you are talking about a sender JDBC adapter: you can put <TEST> in the update statement.
    See this snippet from the help:
    <i>Update SQL Statement
    You have the following options:
    Enter a valid SQL statement that is to be applied to the database once the data (determined from the Query SQL Statement) has been successfully sent to the Integration Server/PCK.
    It must be an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement.
    In place of the SQL statement, you can also enter <TEST>. Once the data determined from Query SQL Statement has been successfully sent, the data in the database remains unaltered.
    This is recommended if the data has not only been read, but also changed by a stored procedure entered under Query SQL Statement.</i>
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/7e/5df96381ec72468a00815dd80f8b63/content.htm
    If you want to synchronously call a receiver JDBC adapter, i think you can use action=SELECT without an update.

  • Help with updating a database while in cfloop

    Greetings. I'm having some difficulties in updating a
    database using cfquery inside of a cfloop.
    Background:
    I've got a text file that I need to interpret, line for line,
    and then update an existing database with information from that
    text file. For example, the text file might say
    jdoe~103 Anywhere St.~East Nowhere~New Jersey~05784~
    asmith~8963 North St.~Crabapple Cove~Maine~01390~
    (etc...you get the idea)
    So, I use a CFFILE to read the file, and then calculate the
    number of lines (records to be updated in the database) using
    listlen / 5 (in this example). From there, I:
    <cfloop index="record" from="1" to "#numberoflines#">
    <cfloop index="field" from="1" to "5">
    <cfset position = ((record - 1) * 5) + field>
    <cfelseif field EQ 1>
    <cfset form.username =
    ListGetAt(newcontents,position,"~")>
    <cfelseif field EQ 2>
    <cfset form.street =
    ListGetAt(newcontents,position,"~")>
    (etc...through EQ 5)
    </cfloop>
    <cfquery name="updatedatabase"
    datasource="clientlist">
    UPDATE clients
    SET
    Street= '#form.street#',
    (etc)
    WHERE email = '#form.username#'
    </cfquery>
    </cfloop>
    The problem I am having is that it updates the very first
    record in the set of records to update, but then it does not update
    any subsequent records.
    Why?
    Sorry if the code is crude. Is there a better way of doing
    this? If so, great detail would be helpful :) Relatively new at
    this.

    you can use cold fusion to upload the file and ftp it to your db
    server or something like that.
    Better yet, that file has to come from somewhere. Is there a
    way you can update your db instead of generating a file in the
    first place?
    The file starts as an output generated by a web user (an
    administrator on the software) which creates a text file containing
    email addresses, one per line. An external process which I have no
    control over takes that file and generates another file containing
    information about each of those e-mail addresses (last name, first
    name, etc) one per line. I can't change that process. So, I'm left
    with an external text file that I need to parse and then put into
    the database...all through a web interface. The goal here is that
    an administrator of the software, who does not have direct access
    to the database, can (using cold fusion processing) update the
    database with new information on each e-mail address without my
    intervention.

    DEV : 29/04/03 : commit

    sure - I don't get any exception. the data just
    doesn't show in the DB. (no updating/deletion of
    records)
    as I wrote before - when the the programm commits the
    changes and does the next select command it seems as
    if the data was changed/deleted but if I check the DB
    with access or if I restart the prgoram then I see
    that the data didn't change.
    Access/jdbc-odbc has a problem where modifications are not 'commited' when the statement completes. Instead one must do one of the following:
    1. Explicit commit.
    2. Simple select after statement.
    3. Close the connection.
    Presumably you are doing 1.
    Since other than this it does work, it suggests one of the following.
    1. Something is wrong with your environment. For instance you are looking at the wrong database. Or not refreshing. Or something else like that.
    2. You are using something besides a simple connection - like opening it with 'scroll insensitive'.
    3. The complexity is causing it to lose an error message. This can be tested by doing each statement individually and verify that none produce an error.
    4. Maybe you found a bug. You can turn on ODBC tracing via the applet panel and see if digging through all of the detail provides any clues (you can also do this with 3 above.)
