Updating deployed EJB definitions

Hi, all,
Imagine the following scenario. You develop an EJB webapp and launch it. A few months go by and you enter a significant amount of data into the app's entity beans -- data that is mission-critical and must not be lost in the future under any circumstances.
Then suddenly the need strikes for you to modify or expand your entity EJBs' class definitions -- say, change some of their fields' types or add totally new fields... How do you then upgrade your EJB class definitions without losing the data that has already been entered into the old definitions, but rather migrating that old object data to your new class definitions? Has anyone had to deal with such a situation in practice?
To give you an example, suppose our web app has an entity bean class named "ContactPerson" but a few months after deploying the application and creating hundreds of ContactPerson instances we realize we need to associate a new attribute with each one of them -- like their Internet telephony ID. We want to append this new attribute to every existing and future ContactPerson bean instance -- without losing any contact person data the application already contains. Any ideas on how to do this?
Thanks for any suggestions,
D. P.

1) changing and recompiling the EJB classes (to make
them include new fields),This shouldn't be a problem. It's the usual stuff. The only thing you need to ensure is that all the old fields and their functionality doesn't go off during changing something.
Still the major part would be the actual DAO stuff... EJBs would not be containing all the backend logic, or is it? Of course, you will need some change in the front-end too, if they are displaying something from the new fields.
2) updating the back-end database in a way that
reflects the new object structure but still contains
the old dataThis can be done by means of loader scripts. And there shouldn't be a problem if you aren't removing any columns or changing their datatypes.
3) making the new EJB's recognize and work seamlessly
once again with the new database. This is a question of some testing. I bet you wouldn't be testing on a production box... so why worry about that right now?
Cheers!

  • Update deployment plan definition with WLST

    Hello,
I would like to write a script in order to get the existing deployemnt plan of my deployed application (Deployement plan is yet modified, I don't want to use loadApplication). Then I would to update my deployement plan (update/add work manager constraints).
I can't find any WLST api to do that. The Weblogic console doesn't record the actions when I do it through the console.
I would like top the the same as this link http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15051_01/wls/docs103/config_scripting/updateplan.html
But with a deploymenPlan got from the server and not from the filesystem
The only way I see is to use a Java parser un Jython to update the existing deployemnt plan and then, redeploy the application but This solution is very heavy in term of developpment. It should be more efficient when a built in parser
Could you please help me giving me some information about how to update deployement plans of a yet deployed application with WLST ?
    Thank you !
    C.

    Thank you for answering.
In fact, I have found the solution for my use case according to the previous html link
The WLST plan seems to be accessible only by file system.
If your application is yet deployed with a deployment plan and you want to update this plan, you have to login on the admin server via WLST,get the application absolute path and the plan absoluth path :
    cd ("AppDeployments/" + INTERNAL_APP_NAME)
    appPath  = cmo.getAbsoluteSourcePath()
planPath = cmo.getAbsolutePlanPath()and then, load the existing plan :
plan = loadApplication(appPath, planPath)after that, you can use the api described at the following link http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15051_01/wls/docs103/config_scripting/updateplan.html to update the plan.
Then, you have to redeploy the application :
    redeploy(APP_NAME)Thank you for helping !

  • Dynamic update of EJB/Web deployment descriptors

In 8.1SP3, is there any provision to allow for dynamic update of EJB/Web deployment descriptors? I'm specifically looking at env var changes.
I noticed that there are some mentions of the ability to dynamically update deployment descriptors, but it appears that the general facility has been deprecated, and they've incorporated all of the WebLogic-specific descriptor information directly into the console.
When I dig through the JMX namespace and some of the MBean classes, I also see mentions of "deployment descriptor editors", but it's not clear how to utilize that.
I'm aware of the fact that my application would have to be aware of possible dynamic updates to the descriptors, so I'd have to be able to implement some sort of listener for that.

I have the same question but for a different purpose. I am part of a hosting group and we have app teams that have defined init-params in the web.xml that have to be changed as the app is promoted up through test environments and ultimately to production - only we need to be able to do this WITHOUT "cracking open" the archive.
I was hoping to be able to script something to do the update after deployment.
So any help at all would be appreciated. In the meantime will continue to poke around in the WLST and MBean docs.
    Thanks,
    Ed

  • Problem in deploying EJBs (More than 390) in weblogic-BEA says JDK issue!!!

Our application had 390 EJBs before the current build. It was running fine on Weblogic 6.1-SP4 with JDK 1.3.1_08.
In the current build, 3 EJBs were introduced and the Weblogic server started giving deployment problems. We then came across the Weblogic Bug stating the magic Number of 390 and delegating it to a SUN Bug. But, contrary to the SUN bug which says of a OutofMemory issue, we were not getting any OutOfMemory error.
Then, just to test the 390 number, we cut downed on the number of EJBs reducing the number to 388, in a test environment. EJBs got deployed without problem. Then we added 3 EJBs (increasing the EJB count to 391), and Weblogic server started giving Deployment problem in a EJB which was one of the 388 that were running fine earlier. But, now also there was no OutOfMemory error. Then we removed one of the newly added EJBs to bring the EJB count to 390. The Weblogic deployed the EJBs without error(even the one which was giving problem when EJB count was 391).
So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any OutOfMemory error.
My questions to the JAVA community are:
1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?
2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be done to fix it?

So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA
problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN
Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug
as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any
OutOfMemory error.Did you check the server logs? There might be an OutOfMemoryError logged.
My questions to the JAVA community are:
1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?Apparently, the problem is with the Weblogic. Did you try deploying the same number on some higher version of Weblogic? (7.0 for instance)
2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be
done to fix it?Check the bug database for the same bug id. There is a workaround posted. The evaluation comments are also hinting at using the suggested VM options.

  • How to calculate the compliance for an software update deployment

    Hi All,
I am trying to find as how do we calculate the compliance for an software update deployment.
Scenario, We have about 4000 machine in the domain. but we have some stale records in the domain which is about 1200. The AD cleanup for the stale records is planned for sometime in March.
So total number of machines in a collection (including the stale machines) are 5200.
The current compliance of that deployment shows the following status:
    Complaint : 1156
    In Progress : 1724
    Error : 38
    Unknown : 2462
And in the unknown, we have :
    Client check failed/Active: 2
    Client check failed/Inactive: 6
    Client check passed/Active: 732
    Client check passed/Inactive: 1722
Can you please suggest in understanding the formula that should be followed to get the compliance.

Your Compliancy, should be based solely off of the number of computers within CM12.
There are no “if”, “and” or “but” able it.  This is the only way to truly and reliably provide numbers to management.
Again it should be very simple calculation:
(Total outstanding  Security SU, Total outstanding
Critical SU, Total outstand Service packs, Total outstand Update Rollups, Total outstand Updates, Total outstand Definition Updates, Total outstand tools, Total outstand Feature packs) Vs Total applied SU (all Classifications)
    Or
Total # of 100% patched PCs vs Total # of PCs as seen by CM12.
If you use any other calculation then you MUST include a disclaimer that you are filtering out computers because they might be invalid. Or you MUST define exactly how you are calculating the number. Therefore any compliancy rate that your calculate maybe
invalid too or at least it will change once you clean up AD.
I will never hide low compliancy numbers to management, I will always show it to them.
In many case I will ask to give a presentation to Management to explain why the numbers are so low.
Provide them with a list of action items that need to be done in order to bring up the number to more reasonable level. I also set their expectation on what a reasonable level is.
100% is unachievable; there is no exception to this!
95-99% Very excellent but expect to spend lots of $$$s to obtain these percentages.
90-95% is really, really, good; expect to spend $$s in this range.
85-89% is good; expect to set strict procedures
81-84 is ok but you could do better
    Below 80% is bad
In your case, I would start by saying AD is dirty and need to be clean up, this has been schedule for March 2015. I would follow up this to say, in order to keep AD clean the follow procedures need to be define / updated / followed. You should also define
exactly what you are doing to ensure that all computers are management by CM12.
IMO these is no simple answer of this.

  • Updating an EJB jar file on WL7.0

    Hi
Iam attempting to update an EBJ jar file without taking down my WL7.0 server.
When I copy the jar file to the applications directory, I see the server accepting
the update but when I run my client the update is not visible! Iseem to be still
    accessing the old ejb.
From my understanding, if the server is running in development mode I should be
able to copy the jar file with my update directly to the applications directory(
overwriting old jar file) and be able to access the udated ejb.

    Hello Ron,
An alternative would be to modify a REDEPLOY file if your application is deployed
in exploded directory format. However, updating the EJB JAR should also do the
trick. Try going into the Admin console and explicity redeploying the EJB JAR
file after copying over the new JAR file. Let us know if any errors appear.
    Best regards,

  • Deploy FEP definitions with WSUS without SCCM.

    Morning,
Possibly a silly question but better to find out now than after configuring a VM with WSUS and finding out it won't work.
One of our clients can't migrate from XP right now, to minimize risk we've denied their access to the internet on these machines. Now we are faced with FEP not being able to update anymore. I've looked up the IP adresses to allow them but they are many and
    constantly changing.
WSUS could be an option for them but do we also need SCCM to deploy FEP definitions and updates via WSUS? I will find out myself how this works but I want to make sure it is possible.
    Thanks ;)

I know Forefront Client Security definitions are in WSUS. FEP definitions should be available also. FEP 2010 is listed in the Proucts list in WSUS Products and Classifications. When using FCS definitions, I altered the frequency of WSUS checking with Microsoft
for updates. The frequency I use is one check early in the am, One at 8 am, one at 1 pm, and one at 4 pm.
So looks like all you have to do is choose that product in WSUS and sync. Let us know if the FEP product definitions get synced.
    Hope this helps.

  • Generate every hour event 2331 for each DP after Software update Deployment Package deletion

We have an organization build on SCCM 2012 R2 with 270 DPs configured with DP Pulls function. The centralized point contains DP sources available for all DP Pull.
We have some problems with Windows Update deployment package, and we decide to delete them. We first remove them from all DPs. After more than a month we delete the deployment package. From this day, we see that the SMS_Distribution_Manager service generate
every hour logs for contacting each of the 270 DPs to ask them for deleting the package.
Remark: At the time we run the delete, some of the DPs were not connected. After 3 weeks all of them were connected. A month later, the SMS_Distribution_Manager
generate always these events every hour.
Each DP responds with a 2331 event that seems OK. Every hour the system begin with two events (2301 and then 2300 for this package, after a 2331 for each
DP). All these events are also present in the application log of the Event Viewer. After the last DP connection that respond with 2331 event, there are no event that generalize a task for the package to definitively remove it from the database.
Could anyone help me to correct the system?

There are no error messages. There are only messages generated in Distribution_manager logs and Event Viewer, showing us server processing and network activity on package that was deleted over 40 days, and that happened every hours. The Microsoft support
give us directives to delete orphan records in 4 tables
    pkgServers_L,pkgServers_G,PkgStatus_L,PkgStatus_G)
At this time the correction has positive effect.

  • Deploying EJBs to SilverStream

    Hello all,
I am having a problem with deploying EJBs to SilverStream. I am trying to deploy a BMP Entity bean to the server and for some reason, when I try to access any methods within the ejb, I get the following strange ServerException:
"Error: RemoteException from the server; nested exception is: java.rmi.RemoteException: null; nested exception is: javax.ejb.EJBException"
Has anyone run into this problem before?
    Thanks

Never mind!!! I was trying to do an INSERT in the ejbStore instead of an UPDATE!!! Doh!

Does anybody knows what must be going wrong?
Can't I deploy EJB 1.1 jar directly on Weblogic 10.3.0.0 or I need to change or configure something before doing it?

Does the ejbCreate() method of the com.package.ejbimpl.RemoteServicesEjb class have an exception on it's throws clause that is not present on the ejbCreate() method of your home interface? If so, does the error go away if you add the exception to the home's ejbCreate() method? In general, you want checked exceptions in a throws clause to match between the interface declaration of the method and the implementation of the method on the bean class.

  • Problem deploying EJB to Oracle 8.1.7

    Hi,
I'm facing a problem while deploying EJB on to Oracle 8i.
I'm using oracle 8.1.7 under Linux (RedHat 7.0).
Also I'm using JDeveloper 3.2.2 (working under Windows NT)
JDeveloper came with JDK version 1.2.2, but I'm using
    JDK 1.3(to use connection pooling).
Classes compiled and says it is error free.
But when I try to deploy this it gives me an error message saying
Compilation errors in oracle/aurora/ejb/gen/dbAccess_dbEJB/EjbHome_DataAccessEJBHome:ORA-29535: source requires recompilation

Later I copied aurora_client.zip from Linux on to JDeveloper version.
Still I get the same error.
    Any idea?
    Expecting your valuable suggestions.
    Thanks,

I am wondering about the classes in the database. This is from metalink.
    SELECT count(*)
    FROM dba_objects
    WHERE object_type LIKE '%JAVA%';
If the above query returns a number < 4000, the installation was not
    successful.
The query below checks for any invalid Java classes using a Java stored procedure:
    SELECT dbms_java.longname(name)
    FROM sys.obj$
    WHERE type# = 29 and status != 1;
If the above query fails or returns any rows, then something is wrong with the JVM installation.
You can also test the Jserver by using the examples in
    $OH/javavm/demo/examples/corba/basic/helloworld
    or
    $OH/javavm/demo/examples/ejb/basic/helloworld
To compile classes in the database
    Alter Java Class " Name of the java class" compile;

  • Calling a newly deployed EJB from an EJB gives a NoSuchMethod Exception if the jar of the newly deployed ejb is not in the classpath

    Hi ,
I have an EJB A which is already deployed when the server starts. A second ejb
B is deployed at a later time.
EJB A calls methods in EJB B. I use reflection in EJB A to call methods in EJB
    B.
I get a NoSuchMethodException when I call the create method in the Home object
of EJB B. If I add the ejb jar file to the classpath before the server starts
then it is able to resolve the method.
The problem is the EJBs which are called from EJB A is not known before the server
is started. New EJBs can be deployed at runtime and EJB A should be able call
the methods in newly deployed EJB's.
I also use the URLClassLoader to load all the classes in the jar file of the newly
deployed EJB in EJB A and it still gives a NoSuchMethodException because it cannot
    resolve the stub class.
My error log is shown below.
    This is an urgent issue.

    Hi,
I am attaching a test case. This test case actually demonstrates a security bug.
Unzip the file and modify the StartWeblogic.cmd in domainA to not refer to the
SampleRemoteEJB.jar in the classpath. If u run the test client under the client
dir u will see a NoSuchMethodException.
The reason is it is not able to load the dynamically generated stub file.
Initially I had the getMethod and it didn't work. You might have to modify the
files to suit ur env. The easier way is to run th edomain wizard and create 2
domains. Run the servers in development mode and place the jars under the applications
    dir

    Hmmmm. That's an interesting problem.
Why is it giving you a NoSuchMethodException instead of a

Can you post the code from SampleConctorEJB.java, line 181?
Try changing your call to getDeclaredMethod() to getMethod().
getDeclaredMethod() searches only the class you called it on, whereas
getMethod() traverses to the superclasses and interfaces. You onlyneed
getDeclaredMethod() when you're accessing a nonpublic method.
Not sure if this will help, but it's worth a shot.

With JDev 3.1, we only support deployment to OAS 4.0.8.2.
JDev 3.0 supported deployment to OAS 4.0.8.1.
I believe most of this restriction is due to internal changes in OAS that we were only able to integrate with 3.1.
