Updating tables in Cloned Database

I have a cloned of my production database on another server, let say server 2. I will like to, on a weekly basics copy update made to all tables on the production database on server 1 to this cloned database on server 2.
What is the best way I can go about to accomplish this? Right now I am manually copying table over old table using data pump.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

If it is all of the tables in a set of schemas, then you should be able to do this:
iexpdp user/password schemas=a,b,c,,... content=data_only ... directory=my_dir dumpfile=my_data_only.dmp
If you want the data overwritten then you could use:
impdp user/password directory=my_dir dumpfile=my_data_only.dmp table_exists_action=truncate
If you have ref constraints you will have to disable those ref constraints.
If you want to do this in one command and you have a network link created on the target database pointing to the source database then while on the target database issue this command:
impdp user/password schemas=a,b,c,... directory=my_dir network_link=source_db_link content=data_only table_exists_action=truncate
This will eliminate the dumpfile, so you don't have to copy it over, and you also can do it in one command.
Hope this helps.

  • Updating tables in external database

    Is there a way to update tables in an external database using an HTML-DB process?
    I want to make my "Apply Changes" button process script update an external table in database x.
    Example:
    update x.tracking_locations@x
    set location = :P7_LOCATION,
    description = :P7_DESCRIPTION,
    IN_USE = :P7_IN_USE
    where tracking_location_num = :P7_TRACKING_LOCATION_NUM;
    I get the following error:
    ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column ORA-02063: preceding line from x
    None of these columns is type long! (they're varchar2)
    Both databases are 9iR2.
    I had a similar problem INSERTING the data (CREATE button) which I got around by posting to a table in my HTML-DB schema, inserting into the database x table as select from the HTML_DB table then deleting from the HTML-DB table all within the "on submit" process script.
    example:
    insert into tracking_locations
    (DESCRIPTION, LOCATION,IN_USE)
    values(:P7_DESCRIPTION,:P7_LOCATION,:P7_IN_USE);
    insert into x.tracking_locations@x
    (DESCRIPTION, LOCATION,IN_USE)
    select description, location, 'Y' from tracking_locations;
    delete from tracking_locations;
    This INSERT trick works, but seems like it should be easier! Nevertheless, I can't get updates to work.
    Any ideas?

    hey tony--
    neat issue. i just reproduced it on our development box and will log it in a minute. for now, though, an easier way to get around it would be to assign the values from your page items to local variables declared in your update procedure and use those local vars for your update. so instead of...
    update x.tracking_locations@x
    set location = :P7_LOCATION,
    description = :P7_DESCRIPTION,
    IN_USE = :P7_IN_USE
    where tracking_location_num = :P7_TRACKING_LOCATION_NUM;
    ...you could set it up like so...
    declare
    l_location varchar2(200) default :P7_LOCATION;
    l_description varchar2(200) default :P7_DESCRIPTION;
    l_in_use default :P7_IN_USE;
    begin
    update x.tracking_locations@x
    set location = l_location,
    description = l_description,
    in_use = l_in_use
    where tracking_location_num = :P7_TRACKING_LOCATION_NUM;
    end;
    ...and things should work fine. i'm also pretty sure that you could avoid having to declare the local variables if you referred to your items in your update statement using the v('ITEM_NAME') syntax, but you'd have to have global_names set to true and it might not be as performant a workaround.
    hope this helps,

  • I have a problem when update tables with a database link (APEX)

    Hi, I search answers for my problem and I not found a solution. My problem start when I open page with database link statement in APEX. I drop tables and execute this for update the tables in APEX.
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE TABLE XXXXXXX
    AS
    SELECT A1,A2,A3
    FROM AAA@BBB';
    I use Mozilla Firefox and isn't always updated the tables because it shows dialog for downloading file "f". I rename the file to txt and I see the text "IBMPC/WIN_NT-8.1.0"...
    In the explorer always show a window only the text "IBMPC/WIN_NT-8.1.0"...
    What is the solution for my problem? I need update this tables.
    Thanks. John.

    It's easy. It doesn't work a database link, on apex, with a pl/sql code or store procedure.
    I saw that many people had the same problem but I don't see a solution.
    As I put up, I want to remove my tables on APEX and copy the table of my Oracle database with the update dates.
    The posts are from the same problem as my English is very bad, it got to help explain the problem.
    I have a page with a pl/sql code. This code in Oracle is correctly.
    For example, with this code I update the table PRUEBAS with the data of TABLEX.
    BEGIN
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP TABLE "PRUEBAS"';
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL;
    END;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE TABLE "PRUEBAS"
    AS
    SELECT AAA,
    BBB,
    CCC
    FROM TABLEX';
    END;
    But, in this code, I have the problem.
    BEGIN
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP TABLE "PRUEBAS"';
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL;
    END;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE TABLE "PRUEBAS"
    AS
    SELECT AAA,
    BBB,
    CCC
    FROM TABLEX@DB_LINK';
    END;
    I sometimes get an error. Sometimes it works fine, but half of the tries Apex returns "IBMPC/WIN_NT-8.1.0" in the browser and I am not using an IBM PC or Win NT...
    And i read that In the alert_xe.log file there are a error of core dump... ... :S or that the application return corrupt headers.... Is a problem of versions?
    I used a synonym and I have the same problem.
    Even if I run the code on SQL COMMANDS (SQL WORKSHOP) it shows dialog for downloading file "f". I rename the file to txt and I see the text "IBMPC/WIN_NT-8.1.0"...
    The problem is in Mozilla Firefox and in IE.
    I have the OracleXE 10g (Application Express 3.0.1.00.08).
    And the question is.. ... ... ... ... What is the solution? :)
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi,
    You have to put the following code in the PBO of screen 1000.This code would make the fields editable to make changes in the table control fields directly.
    Here there are 3 transactions.For create and change transactions, the fields will be in editable mode and for display transaction,they will be non editable mode.
    DESCRIBE TABLE tb_line LINES lin.    " tb_line is the name of the internal table for the table control

                MODIFY SCREEN.
              ENDIF.
            ENDLOOP.
          ENDIF.
    Once the fields are edited and the save button is pressed,the entered values have to be populated into the Z tables.The code has to written in the PAI of the screen 1000.Here the values from the work area of the internal table are moved into the Z Table. The code will be.

  • Help with UPDATE table and database RELATIONSHIPS

    HI there, I have been trying to create an update table for
    weeks now and keep getting error messages.
    The database has a table named:
    "books" in the table cells are "idbook" and "book".
    "suppliers" in the table cells are "idsupplier" and
    "supplierName".
    "category" in the table cells are "idcategory" and
    categoryName"
    They all have a relationships with this table:
    "results" in the cells are "idbook", "idsupplier" and
    "idcategory".
    This "results" table brings all of the above tables together.
    When I try to do an update, i am doing one to the results
    table. Is this correct?
    The updates have problems because when drawing the text to
    the update table to view it comes in text form.
    When trying to update, it wont becuase all of the cells in
    the results table are numeric. This is because of the
    relationships.
    Can anyone suggest where i may be going wrong.

  • Updating data in the database table

    Can any help me in the code for updating data in the database table.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,
    A slightly longer procedure that i'm adding here...
    1.) Create the component (i'm sure you have this covered)
    2.) Next on the button click that updates the database - add an action.
    3.) double click the action so that you are taken to the methods section of the view.
    4.) next you need to add the code that is required the update the database - this will be in the form of the above two posts.
    5.) compile and test the application
    Let me know in case you need further information on how to do this with a function module or something.
    Thanks.

  • Updates to the table from the database level.

    Hi Dear All,
    If we do some updates to the table at the Database Level, like i deleted some records from the table at the Oracle level. But I'm still able to see the same deleted records from the Data Dictionary(SE11) at the application level.
    Can you pl explain the mechanism, that how it is possible and why.
    best regards
    Mahesh

    transparent tables store data directly....if you delete some data from transparent tables, the same is reflected in the database (oracle) but the reverse is not true...if you modify the database table contents directly...the dictionary table remains intact...
    transparent tables have a one-to-one relationship with the database tables....
    hope that clarifies a bit....

  • Update a table content in database MS access

    Hi
    In my application i am using Database toolkit to write a table in to MS access.
    i am able to write a table in to database but i am facing problem in editing a perticular cell in a table which is there in data base, how this can be achieved?
    When i use insert data vi, a row of data is being inserted. but in my application i need to keep updating the data in the same field.
    Ex: If i have writen a data in the 1st row i should keep updating the values of the 1st row basically i need to edit table contents.
    regards

    Anil
    You can DB Tools Execute Query to run an UPDATE query. Take this example where I use the example labview.mdb database in ...\examples\database directory. This VI allows the user to UPDATE the PhoneNumber field for record with CustomerID=23311 which is the first record.
    Hope this helps

  • Automatically update table when database make any changes

    Hi Experts,
    I want to create one table in the database that table
    but values get inserted into that table automatically when the database make any changes (i.e if you insert/update/delete any values in any table in the database)
    how should i create this type of table into my oracle database
    please give me some script to create it
    reg,
    jel

    Why not simply enable audit? Then you can query SYS.AUD table to track inserts/updates/deletes and even selects. Other than that, you would have to create a trigger on every existing and newly created table.

  • Updating tableview back into database table

    I am trying to display a recordset from mysql database table into a tableview in javafx. Maybe let's say get all records where invoice number is 101 i n the master table from the child records in the child table.(This is a typical master detail scenario.) After this I update the tableview add, delete, edit some records AND then I want to save this Tableview or rather update it back, synchronise into the database table.
    I request you to kindly help with sample code or any guidelines that will help me in this objective.

    Here is the tutorial of tableView : http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/ui_controls/table-view.htm
    You can use the Java Class that mapped the database for ObservableList. Get all the record in the database and cover it to the java object. Then add them to the ObservableList to show on TableView. After add, update, edit,... Get the item in the ObservableList and update back to your database.
    I can't tell in detail. You should try this tutorial and if there are any more Specific Issue you can post another question here.

  • Database trigger cannot read the updating table

    I want to create a database trigger :
    after insert or update on EMP
    for each row
    begin
    select sum(EMP.salary) from EMP WHERE .....
    end;
    However, I got an error is that I cannot read the updating table if the trigger is 'for each row'. Can anyone help me to to this?
    More, I must use 'for each row' trigger for this case.
    null

    I think the SQL statement should be
    strSQL = "SELECT * FROM MaterialLotJobJoint WHERE JobID=" & _
    tempvars!JobID & " AND MatLotID=" & tempvars!MatLotID
    This assumes thatJobID and MatLotID are number fields.

  • Get the list of table's last Inserted/Updated date from a database

    Hi All,
    Good afternoon!
    Please help me to find the last inserted/updated date from different tables in a database.
    Consider I have a database called testDB, which contains 20 tables. Most of these tables will get data inserted/updated daily. But sometimes it may not happen due to some issues . We will not be knowing about this issue until we check  in each table
    manually. Now, somebody should be daily checking for the issues in this db. So, we have decided to make an alert mail to send this informations to us.
    We need to check whether any of the table's in TetsDB has got inserted/updated data in one day difference.
    I have tried this..
    SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) AS Object_, last_user_update,*
    FROM sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats
    WHERE database_id = DB_ID( 'TestDB')
    Thanks,
    Julie

    The solution depends on the version and edition of your SQL Server.
    If you use SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005, please visit these links:
    How do I audit changes to SQL Server data?
    Table Auditing with SQL Server 2000
    If your SQL Server 2008 or above (only on the Enterprise edition), please have a look at this link:
    Change Data Capture
    If your SQL Server 2008 or above (all editions),
    you can use Change Tracking, but Change tracking captures the fact that rows in a table were changed, but does not capture the data that was changed.
    more info:
    Comparing Change Data Capture and Change Tracking
    Saeid Hasani [sqldevelop]
    HI,
    I've read about change tracking change data capturing now.
    We need to track the data daily and we need to know whether any modification happens in those tables.
    Will it make any performance issue if I enable change data capturing on multiple tables.. lets say 20+ tables.?

    The user needs to print a report multiple times for the day but needs to knwo whether or not the data was already printed so that it is not printed again...therefore I have a y/n/all field on the report to allow the user to choose what subsets of data to print...
    Problem is, how do I actually update the data base table and the subset of records currently printed as printed from the report runtime....how do I code this ...
    Please help......

    oyu can use the following to insert or update in data base from reports
    CMD_LINE := 'insert into Table values
    ('''||:toDate||''','||a||')';
    SRW.DO_SQL(CMD_LINE);
    CMD_LINE := 'update Table set net = '||a||'
    where ddate ='''||:todate||'''';
    commit ;

  • Updating metadata in OWB after modifying tables in the database

    Hi All,
    In our data warehouse, one key field will suffer a change in data precision, from number(4) to number(5). This field exists in several tables across the database and I have created a procedure to alter all related tables in Oracle (10g). Is there a way to create a similar procedure or script to modify the metadata in OWB in order to reflect the changes in the altered tables from the database? I think the script should refresh the tables in the metadata but I'm not sure if it would be necessary to sincronize or validate the related mappings.
    I'm newbie in OWB so I'm not sure whether this is achievable or not.
    Thanks in advance for your guidance.
    Regards,
    Mauricio

    Below is a OMBPlus tcl script to set the precision and scale of a specific column name in all tables of the current oracle module
    Prerequisite is that you have made the connection to the OWB repository in OMBPlus (OMBCONNECT) and have set the context to the right oracle module (OMBCC and set OMBPROMPT ON, the latter to display your current context in the prompt)
    Happy scripting.
    proc set_nbr_len {p_objtyp p_col_name p_scale p_precision} {
       set tbls [OMBLIST ${p_objtyp}S]
       foreach tbl $tbls {
          set cols [OMBRETRIEVE $p_objtyp '$tbl' GET COLUMNS '$p_col_name']
          foreach col $cols {
           set dattyp [OMBRETRIEVE $p_objtyp '$tbl' COLUMN '$col' \
                         GET PROPERTIES (DATATYPE)]
           if { [string first "NUMBER" $dattyp] != -1 } {
                puts "Column $col scale & precision reset in $p_objtyp $tbl"
                    OMBALTER $p_objtyp '$tbl' MODIFY COLUMN '$col' SET PROPERTIES \
                         (SCALE, PRECISION) VALUES \
                   ('$p_scale', '$p_precision')
       OMBCOMMIT
    set_nbr_len TABLE <your column name> <your precision> <your scale>

  • Difference in select for update of - in Oracle Database 10g and 11g

    Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience):
    DECLARE
      v_ename bonus.ename%TYPE;
    BEGIN
      SELECT b.ename
        INTO v_ename
        FROM bonus b
        JOIN emp e ON b.ename = e.ename
        JOIN dept d ON d.deptno = e.deptno
       WHERE b.ename = 'Scott'
         FOR UPDATE OF b.ename;
    END;
    /While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

    It seems that my question was answered here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2736426/difference-in-select-for-update-of-in-oracle-database-10g-and-11g

    The behaviour seems like it really is a bug and can be avoided using non-ANSI syntax. (It makes me wonder why Oracle maintains two query languages while dumb me thinks that this is just a preprocessor matter and query engine could be the same).
