Hello Gurur,
I have two tables they are
Test & emp_op
Desc empop
- empid
-id_num
-node_num
_Desc Test
-id_num
-node_num
-name
-addr
-empid
Now i m trying to update the column empid in test table, copying as it is from empid column of emp_op table . Below is the query i have wriiten to update
update test e
set e.empid = (select t.empid from emp_op t
where t.id_num = e.id_num and
t.node_num = e.node_num );
But it gives me an error ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one row. any idea why ??
if not, is there is any way i can accomplish this task in a different way ??

Hi,
That means some row (maybe more than one) in test matches two or more rows in emp_op.
What do you want to do in that case? Post some sample data (from both tables, relevant columns only) and the results you want to see in test after the UPDATE.
If you know that all the matching rows in emp_op will have the same empid, you can just change SELECT in the sub-query to SELECT DISTINCT .

How to update multiple columns from different tables using cursor.

i have two tables test1 and test2. i want to udpate the column(DEPT_DSCR) of both the tables TEST1 and TEST2 using select for update and current of...using cursor.
I have a code written as follows :

The above code when run says that it runs successfully. But it does not updates the desired columns[DEPT_DSCR].
It only works when we want to update single or multiple columns of same table...i.e. by providing these columns after "FOR UPDATE OF"
I am not sure what is the exact problem when we want to update multiple columns of different tables.
Can anyone help me on this ?

How to store data file name in one of the columns of staging table

My requirement is to load data from .dat file to oracle staging table. I have done following steps:
1. Created control file and stored in bin directory.
2. Created data file and stored in bin directory.
3. Registered a concurrent program with execution method as SQL*Loader.
4. Added the concurrent program to request group.
I am passing the file name as a parameter to concurrent program. When I am running the program, the data is getting loaded to the staging table correctly.
Now I want to store the filename (which is passed as a parameter) in one of the columns of staging table. I tried different ways found through Google, but none of them worked. I am using the below control file:

I'm not sure if I understood what are you trying to do. But you can modify your table in a backing bean code. JSF page code for a table:

Query to get the data of all the columns in a table except any one column

Can anyone please tell how to write a query to get the data of all the columns in a table except one particular column..
For Example:
Let us consider the EMP table.,
From this table except the column comm all the remaining columns of the table should be listed
For this we can write a query like this..
Select empno, ename, job, mgr, sal, hiredate, deptno from emp;
Just to avoid only one column, I mentioned all the remaining ( 7 ) columns of the table in the query..
As the EMP table consists only 8 columns, it doesn't seem much difficult to mention all the columns in the query,
but if a table have 100 columns in the table, then do we have to mention all the columns in the query..?
Is there any other way of writing the query to get the required result..?

Your best best it to just list all the columns. Any other method will just cause more headaches and complicated code.
If you really need to list all the columns for a table because you don't want to type them, just use something like...

Get Error while update the User defined row table through DSK Code

What i understood is you have 5 lines and you are going to be update 5th line
am i correct..
while u are updating the line in child table
you have to consider like this..
line number         u have to update like
1                                        0
2                                        1
3                                        2
4                                        3
5                                        4
which means in child table treat
line 1 as 0
line 2 as 1
line 5 as 4
If you want to update the line 5 u have to mention 4 th line
