Upgrade SSRS to 2012/2014

Hi,
How to upgrade/migrate SSRS from SQL 2000/2005 to SQL 2012/2014?

Hi S.Vijay Kumar,
As per my understanding, you want to migrate a Reporting Services native mode deployment to a new SQL Server 2012/2014 Reporting Services instance. If that is the case, please refer to the following steps:
Back up database, application, and configuration files.
Back up the encryption key.
Move the report server database and other application files from your SQL Server 2005 installation to your new SQL Server 2008 installation.
Move any custom application files to the new installation.
Configure the report server.
Edit RSReportServer.config to include any custom settings from your previous installation.
Optionally, configure custom Access Control Lists (ACLs) for the new Reporting Services Windows service group.
Test your installation.
Remove unused applications and tools after you have confirmed that the new instance is fully operational.
For detail information about migrating a Reporting Services Installation, please refer to the following documents:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143724(v=sql.120).aspx
If you want to update SSRS 2005 projects to SSRS 2012/2014, we can copy project files from report server 2005 to report server 2012/2014, the reports are automatically upgraded on first use. After you upgrade a report, you might notice additional errors,
warnings, and messages. This is the result of changes to the internal report object model and processing components, which cause messages to appear when underlying problems in the report are detected.
For detail information about upgrading Reports, please refer to the following document:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143674(v=sql.120).aspx
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,

  • Upgrade SSAS to 2012/2014

    Hi,
How to upgrade/migrate SSAS from SQL 2000/2005 to SQL 2012/2014?

There is no easy migration from SSAS 2000 to later versions. There was a migration wizard, but the architecture of the databases changed so significantly that a manual re-build of the database is the best approach.
But for going from SQL 2005 to later versions it should be much smoother and there is documentation on MSDN about this https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143686.aspx

  • Upgrade SSIS/DTS to 2012/2014

    Hi,
How to upgrade/migrate SSIS/DTS from SQL 2000/2005 to SQL 2012/2014?

Depending on what packages use it may not always be possible to do complete upgrade of packages. The easiest way to do package upgrade is by opening package within BIDS/SSDT (client tools) in the new version. Then upgrade wizard will run and do an upgrade
of packages. Once this is done package gets opened and it may report any errors which may arise due to wizard being unable unable to upgrade few components inside  package like custom third party components.
This you need to do manually yourself by either compiling assemblies against correct references in new version or installing third party component compatible with the latest versions.

  • Upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 to R2 Fails - Unsupported Upgrade Path

    Hi everybody,
I'm currently upgrading our SCCM infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 after have finished with the upgrade from SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1 CU4, thus far everything works fine, but when I try to update any
of the site servers, whether CAS or Primary, I'm getting the following error message in the Prerequisites Check:
I've gone through the system requirements and prerequisites over and over again and I can assure you that every possible update, supported OS, feature set, SQL Server, check list, etc,
etc, have been followed as per the official documentation available, however I'm stuck in this point, and surely enough I haven't been able to find out a similar case.Additionally I'm adding
the ConfigMgrPrereq log (the relevant portion of it) in case someone could kindly take a look at it.

I confirm that this one site is a secondary one that's attached to a primary site and this log is from the CAS server, I managed to tall it and delete it from that site, but still appears listed
on the CAS management console, any idea how to force the removal of a secondary site that's attached to a primary from the CAS site when it has been removed already from said primary?
    I've already tried the
Preinst /DELSITE XXX  command but it only works when the site to remove it's attached to the local site and certainly not from a CAS
Finally,  the version, build number and everything is correct, no idea what could be the problem, does anybody know a way to bypass this or force the re-evaluation of this rules, I've got
the impression that it's being cached somehow.
Any help would be highly appreciated,
    Thank you.

    Hello again everybody,
I've finally managed to fix this up, in the end I had to delete those entries manually from the database as Garry suggested. After this was done the upgrade has gone through as expected with no further ado and has finalized already, now moving on to the
    primary sites.
If anybody out there is facing the same issue, what I did was to delete those "stubborn" records executing the following statements over the CAS database:
    DELETE
    FROMServerDataWHERESiteCode='XXX'
    DELETE
    FROMSC_SiteDefinitionWHERESiteCode='XXX'
And this is pretty much about it. I'd recommend to take a proper backup first though as best practice.
Thank you all anyways for your answers and comments,
    Marcelo Estrada MCP-MCTS-MCITP-MCSA-MCSE

I upgraded my SCCM 2012 SP1 environment to R2 and reports no longer work.  I've removed the site role, waited a day, and added it.  I've also verified the account (used by the reporting site role) has access to the DB and can logon locally.  The

    Any other thoughts on this?

So to be clear you have Done both the Mofcomp and Added the correct account to the Windows Authorization Access Group?
What is version of SQL are you using?
Is SSRS remote or local to CM12?
What service account are you using for SSRS?
Bases on the error message you are getting this within the console, Does the native SSRS report work? BTW I never recommend accessing the report via the console.

I've just upgraded to Photoshop CC 2014 and it's playing havoc with my work flow.
    i)  From LR5.5, when I click edit with "Photoshop CC 2014" - it opens PS CC 2014 but doesn;t open the image
ii) Whenever I try and use Nik Viveza it crashes PS CC 2014 when applying the changes from viveza.  I've checked that I have the latest version of Nik software.  It was working fine PS CC
I'm now going back to CC until these can be resolved.
    Thanks
    Chris

I was going to reply that I have multiple monitors and have had zero problems with Viveza used with PS CC 2014.  Then I realized two things. One I didn't know if the OP was on windows or the Mac and, two, if the Mac was it a Big Cat or geographic system.  The display characteristics differ greatly between the three systems.
It sure would be nice to have a one line signature specifying the poster's system available for use on this board.

  • SQL Server 2012/2014 DBA

Hi, I have been working as system engineer for almost seven years. My primary focus is on Windows Server 2008 R2/2012 R2 technologies, Exchange Server 2010/2013, PowerShell (v2, v3 and v4), SCCM/SCOM 2012 R2, MDT 2012 U1/2013, IIS 8/8.5 and list goes on
with no MS technologies like Symantec (AV, backup products) and vSphere 5/5.5 since I am big fan of most of these technologies (honestly I am not thrilled working with Exchange Server - too much things under the hood just to send an email :-)). I
have recently decided to also dig deep into SQL Server 2012/2014 although in my company we do not have anyone whose job is primarily working as SQL DBA. Knowing that SQL Server 2012/2014 has SSRS, SSIS and SSAS beside the main
one Database Engine, I would like to find out whether SQL DBA has to know very well these three SQL components or he/she should be focused on administering SQL Server databases and querying SQL server (in case of SQL Server
2012 areas covered by exams 70-462 and 70-461). Having deep knowledge of all these SQL Server services seems like mission impossible and honestly I do not think anyone could master SQL Server "as whole" - unless, maybe, that person is working only
and I repeat only with SQL Server. It looks like SC 2012 R2 suite - mastering all products in this suite is impossible. So what should I do?

SSIS was mentioned as very powerful tool in DBA arsenal for automating many administrative tasks without too much difficulties. Since I have no experience in working with SSIS how tough is it for learning and mastering and what books/videos do you
    recommend?
SSIS is a must for a DBA. In case you have questions, there is an excellent SSIS forum:

  • Reports not working after upgrade to SCCM 2012 R2 -

I am having the same issue described in this post:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/30f185ac-c34e-44ad-87eb-7d180a0d76b8/after-2012-r2-upgrade-some-sql-queries-wont-run?forum=configmanagergeneral
When running reports after upgrading from SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2 to SCCM 2012 R2 I get the following error:
    An
error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    Cannot
read the next data row for the dataset DataSet1. (rsErrorReadingNextDataRow)
    Conversion
failed when converting the nvarchar value
    'S-1-5-21-1010966800-777871707-395339515-124623' to data type int.
I have removed the Reporting Services Point and reinstalled it with no effect.  All reports I try get the error listed above.
    Any suggestions?

The issue has been resolved.  For anyone experiencing a similar issue I will post the fix that worked for us below:
I ended up opening a PSS case and in this instance the problem was the required SQL management provider was not properly registered in WMI, which ultimately meant the reporting point upgrade/install was not able to complete successfully after the upgrade.
As a result the updated reports were not properly being redeployed to the Reporting Service Point.

The important part is the lines saying Invalid Class and then it timing out, so the RP installation was not completed.
As mentioned earlier the WMI class that was missing or corrupt was the SQL management Provider.  To re-register the class we need to compile the MOF file that is available in SQL.  In our instance the command to run was:
    mofcomp "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"
Once that was done, monitoring the srsrp.log shows that it could properly detect the SSRS service, stop it and start coping the updated reports and such.  After a few minutes the deploy completed, and all the broken reports started working
    correctly.
    Hope that helps someone else.

  • Reporting Error After Upgrading to SCCM 2012 R2

After upgrading from SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2 to SCCM 2012 R2, some users receive an error whenever they open a report.  This occurs in both the SCCM console and the SSRS web site.  What's odd is not all users receive the error.  In fact, for two
users with the exact same permissions, running the console on the same computer, 1 gets the error and the other doesn't.  Anybody else see this or have any ideas to troubleshoot or fix it?  I'm thinking this may relate to the fix for permissions
    in reporting included in R2.
The error message from the console is:Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportServerException
The DefaultValue expression for the report parameter ‘UserSIDs’ contains an error: The user name or password is incorrect.

I just wanted to share my last upgrade experience with you, in case, someone is running into the same problem:
    I've just upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 (from CU3).
Guess what? It broke the Reporting, error message as above!
So I've put the computeraccount of my SCCM/SSRS server (SSRS service is running under local system account) into the WAA group, reboot - but it didn't help. Tried also the Pre-Win2000-Compat-group. Didn't help. A colleague was not experiencing the problem.
Hmmm. So what is different between our accounts?
The difference found: My account's userPrincipalName was set to the same as the sAMAccountName, but missing a domain. The account was obviously created by a bad script.
Solution 1: Delete the userPrincipalName attribute, or
Solution 2: Make the userPrincipalName complete by adding a valid domain, i.e. [email protected]: In the Active Directory Users and Computers mmc, User Properties, Account tab, select a domain for the "User logon name".
The problem seems to be only for user accounts, that are in a different domain than the SCCM server's account, i.e. server in example.com, user account in sub.example.com. Always multi-domain problems...

  • Upgrading from SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 R2 what CU do i install? CU5?

    Hi,
I just upgraded from SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 R2. What CU version should I install? CU5?
    Thanks

  • Issues with SharePoint 2013 after upgrading from windows 2012 to 2012 r2

We have a Sharepoint with Sp1 environment on windows 2012. Recently we upgraded the windows 2012 to 2012 r2. After the upgrade sharepoint environment is completely unstable.
At first all the sites returned 401 errors. After resolving by resetting the object cache accounts the sites are back.
Then i see that none of the performance point dashboards work. I figured that claims to windows token service is defaulted to local system account. I previously configured with a domain account. I reconfigured to work with domain account.
All the dashboard pages throw error.
Some Error logs:Failed to get document content data. System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): Cannot complete this function     at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSqlClient.GetDocumentContentRow

    value)
      4.  I tried to create a new dashboard and this time the performancepoint designer wont launch. After some troubleshooting i see that c2w host file didnot have the caller  C:\Program Files\Windows Identity Foundation\v3.5.
           I added <add value="WSS_WPG" /> and now it launches
      5.  Now the Dashboard launches and peruser identity works without having kerberos enabled at IIS. I have all the spn and required delegations setup for this url . But i did not configure at the IIS level
    yet.
It looks like lot of things got messed up and reset. Can we upgrade to windows 2012 r2 with a sharepoint application inplace. what is the recommended approach and Whats happening with Performancepoint dashboards. IS there a known issue with sharepoint 2013
    sp1.
    Raj-Shpt

Thanks for the above article. Few issues are solved . One of the main issue is with Performancepoint Dashboard.
I have all the spn and required delegations setup for this url . But i did not configure at
the IIS level yet. Still per user identity works without having kerberos enabled at IIS.

  • Problem upgrading from SCOM 2012 SP1 to R2 (near impossible to uninstall SCOM agent from Management Server)

I'm trying to upgrade our SCOM 2012 SP1 environment to R2, but I have a heck of a problem getting there.
We currently have an test installation with SCOM 2012 SP1 with Management Server and Console on a single 2012 Standard server. The database are located on a remote server. The R2 setup stopped mid way through the setup, because the SCOM 2012 SP1 agent is
installed. And I could NOT remove it my any normal means. I've tried "misexec.exe /x productcode", the setup, powershell uninstall and so on. Nothing works, because the management server installation is blocking the uninstall. The uninstall says
I have to remove the management installation first. And that's not gonna happen.
I had to follow this guide to finally getting through the setup: http://www.opsman.co.za/forcibly-removing-a-scom-agent-that-cannot-be-uninstalled-by-normal-means/
In addition to searching for the agent msi install key in registry, and deleting everything. After I did this, the setup is working, and the SCOM management server, console and DB are up to date. However, the Microsoft Monitoring Agent are STILL there in
Control Panel. And this can NOT be the most healthy way of getting through the setup.
I'm about to upgrade to R2 in our production environment with 3 management servers, and I would hate to go through this sketchy process there as well. Just for the record, I have no idea why the agents are installed on our management servers.
Any of you have tips as to how I can get rid of the agents more gracefully?

    Hi
    Thanks for the replay guys!
None of those links touch my problem I'm afraid. I have followed the Upgrade guides you pointed to, step by step. But the setup does not Complete. There's problems during the actual software Upgrade of the management servers (3'rd step in the Upgrade page).
I've dived into the Application logs and installation logs, and as far as I can tell, it stops because it has trouble upgrading while the server has the 2012 SP1 Agent installed. I do not remember the actual error text right now, but I can get it in a few
    days.
Anyhow, the setup DID move on once I removed most of the registry information of the agent installation. So. that leaves me to the conclusion that the agent IS in fact stopping the setup. Either the agent are malfunctioning, or the setup do not expect the
agent to be present on the management servers. I suspect the latter to be the the most plausible. At least until Yan Li told me this was normal.
So, I'm not sure what to think. I'm pretty much forced to remove this agents, as this is the only thing allowing me to continue the setup. At least untill I'm told otherwise. But I hate to do it this way. It's so dirty. The registry is pretty much cleaned,
but there's still Application files present, and the agent is still in the Control panel and can be started. It's not something I would like to do in our prodution environment.

  • How can I upgrade Windows Server 2012 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials?

I have just installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials on my Home Network (from the installation DVD).  I have done absolutely no  configuration  Installing Server 2012 was an oversight;  I meant to install Server 2012 R2 Essentials.
I tried to correct by installing R2 from its DVD, hoping it would do an upgrade.  That didn't work.
Is there a simple way to make it possible to install the correct OS?   For example, can I just demote the existing server and remove any roles that were installed, so that the R2 disk will install over top of the existing installation?
Alternatively, is it safe to just reformat the partition and install R2?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn408635.aspx seems to imply that this is OK.
    David Pike, P.Eng, MCITP

Hi Larry.   Thanks for the reply.  It didn't work, but I don't believe you are wrong.  Rather I think there is something weird in my system.  I'm marking your reply as answer.
Some background:  I'm repurposing an older PC (Compaq SR1614X) as a home server, to manage my home network, use as a gateway to my Azure server, and to help my Server 2012 training (on MVA).  I've been messing with it for nearly two months,
on and off.  From the start, I've had trouble installing the server 2012 software (see previous threads August-27 and August-16
), but when I got to the point that I could install Server 2012 Essentials, I thought I could upgrade to Server 2012 R2 Essentials exactly as you suggest.  That was where you helped me a lot, i.e. you confirmed that my expectations were reasonable.
So when it didn't work, I spent most of yesterday trying various different procedures.   I got tantalizingly close, but still no cigar.
I can install any Windows Client and Server 2012 Essentials, but the R2 Essentials installation never finishes; it goes into an "error 0x000000C4" boot loop.  At first I wondered if it was because I was installing a server over a
server, but you confirmed that's not the issue.  I later verified that I cannot install R2 over Windows 7 either, whereas R1 over Win7 is fine.  I can only surmise one of two problems:
I have a bad installation disk
    There is a hardware issue
I plan to eliminate (1) by creating a new disk from a new download.  I have verified that the latest ISO file and the one I have been using have identical byte counts,
For (2), I had suspected that the problem was that the older system has no UEFI, but since R1 installs OK, I am discounting that.  Today's effort:  to eliminate the DVD drive, I will try booting from a Flash Drive.  To eliminate
the hard drive, I will try installing to a different drive.
I am hoping you can help with one more thing.  When I run setup.exe with the /noreboot option, I have a better chance of success.  The option suppresses the first reboot only, but that one (after "Expanding the setup files") always
fails, so suppressing it gets me almost to the end of the install.  Is there a way to modify setup.exe so the it always runs with the /noreboot option?

    Hi,
ever since upgrading from Server 2012 X64 to Server 2012 R2 X64 my dns server keeps shutting down every several minutes before having to do a restart.  When viewing the event log this is all I see..

    thanks,

    Hi,
I'm going crazy,  I've upgraded my Server 2012 Standard to Server 2012 R2 Standard and now my DNS server keeps crashing since the in place upgrade.  I have finally narrowed it down to it only crashes after several minutes if I load the data from
a file instead of the registry.  As a test I:
-1- killed all my dns data,
-2- uninstalled the dns server role
    -3- deleted the /windows/system32/dns directory
-4- reinstalled the DNS server role
-5- used the wizard to create a DNS server and a forward zone.
everything works okay, no crashes,  then I change the advanced propertied of the DNS server to load from file, restart the DNS server and once again it crashes every 2 minutes..
Please help,  this is killing me..
    thanks in advance..
