Upgradeing oracle 9i Windows 32 bit to Oracle 10.2.0.3 Windows 64bit

I have a DB in oracle 9.2.0.5. I have two questios
1 ) How can I upgrade this to Widnows 64 bit oracle 10.2.0.3 without doing an export import.
2) Is it possible to upgrade 9.2.0.5 straight to 10.2.0.3 Windows 64 bit without export import.
My plan is to copy the 9i DB to Windows 10.2.0.3 64 bit server , startup upgrade, then run utlip.sql and utlrp.sql.
Thank you

Just copy the datafiles and upgrade your database directly onto your target system, that'll convert automatically your db in 64-bit :
"+If you are installing 64-bit Oracle Database 10g software but were previously using a 32-bit Oracle Database installation, then the databases will automatically be converted to 64-bit during the upgrade to Oracle Database 10g except when upgrading from Release 1 (10.1) to Release 2 (10.2).+"

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.

    It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle Client 64-bit and Oracle Client 32-bit on the same server

    Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 server 64-bit with Oracle Client 64-bit and Oracle Client 32-bit installed on different directories (D:\Oracle and D:\Oracle32)
Is it possible to define for certain applications to use the TNSNAMES entry from the 64-bit Oracle Client
and for other applications to use the TNSNAMES entry from the 32-bit Oracle Client
Once I installed the Oracle Client 32-bit (Oracle Client 64-bit version was already installed) and restarted the server I performed a TNSPING and it defaulted to the Oracle Client 32-bit installation path
    Thanks,
    Barry

    Hello,
When you install a new client on a server, it will update the PATH variable, and add the ORACLE_HOME\bin path to it, at the first place. That explains why the tnsping use the last installed ORACLE_HOME.
What you can do if you want only to change the default path to the tnsnames is to set the environment variable TNS_ADMIN to the path where the tnsnames you want to use is located. You can modify this variable in your application if you want to use another tnsnames.
If you want switch from 32 bits to 64 bits client, then you have to modify the PATH variable.
    Hope this will help.
    Best regards,
    Sylvie

  • Difference between Oracle 10g 64 bit /Oracle 10g 32 Bit Windows

    Hi all
We are using 10g Oracle 32 Bit windows as well as Oracle 10g 64 Windows at some installations.
Now we tested these two systems in our office for Testing purpose on two similar machines i.e
Intel i3 with 4 GB RAM. Database size approx 4GB
We had the feeling that :-
    a) Oracle datafile Filesize limitation may be there in 32 Bit system but we saw that physically around 3.5 GB datafile size
is created in 32 Bit windows also
    b) Data Fetching Speed -.We thought that data fetching speed would be higher in 64 Bit machine. But we proved to
be wrong. Our sample data had approx 7 Millions records (based on Client Live data for 3 years) total in around 20 transaction tables. Further there were other additional 100-150 tables but very smaller ones just master tables
We used the same client end machine and same Front end and same queries on both servers. To our surpriise - We got the almost similar results in terms of data fetching time in both the 32 Bit as well as 64 Bit windows with similar Oracle 10g 32 bit and Oracle 64 Bit respectively
Further we find that Anti Virus Programme which may be any say Symatentic or other - troubles much more in Windows 64 Bit environment as compared to Windows 32 Bit environment from settings point of view.
    Kindly advise as to
    a) Whether our above observations are correct
    b) Now under what situations should we use Oracle 10g 64 Windows as compared to Oracle 10g 32 Bit windows

  • 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade in Windows x86_64 on Oracle

Please suggest an approach for 32 bit to 64 bit migration on Windows/Oracle combination 9i.
PAM indicates that, Oracle runs in 64bit mode only in 10g version
This would require an oracle upgrade.
Please suggest an approach when your database size is huge.

    Hi Markus,
Let me cleary explain the sceanrio,
I have a Sandbox 4.6C , Oracle 9.2.0.8 with Windows 2003 Server on 32 bit with over  1 TB of data.
Now i have a brand new x86_64 bit hardware with Windows 2003 Server 64 bit OS install.
I have to use this to make a System Copy of the current Sandbox and upgrade it ECC 6.0.
How do i plan this, it is quite confusing???
    There are two things here
    a) 32 bit to 64 bit migration
    b) Oracle 10g upgrade
    Plan a)
Make an Export of the current 9i 32 bit database , fresh install of Oracle 10g  64 bit on the new 64 bit server and import the whole data
But the only problem is huge data to export.
    Plan b)
Make a homogeneous sytem copy since it is Windows 32 bit to Windows 64 bit and then upgrade to Oracle 10g. This requires me to install Oracle 32 bit 9i on a 64 bit hardware, is it SAP recommended??
    How do i do this??

  • SSIS Oracle 11g 64 bit client upgrade Issue

After the oracle client upgrade from 10g to 11g, the ssis jobs are getting failed for the BadImageFormatException. Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
But the same package with same system requirements and same sql agent configuration is wroking fine in DIT. Please find below the system configuration in both environment.
    DIT
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode since we are using the are using the .Net Provider/OracleClient Data Provider connection manager to the database .
    UAT :
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode
In UAT, Everything looks as DIT but the job is not working fine in DIT.
I have gone through all the thread related to 32 64 bit, .Net Oracle client provide but i haven't found any solution for this problem.
Can you please tell me the missed out configuration in DIT and UAT? the exact problem for this issue ? what is the oracle components required for this connection? Its urgent.
What is missing in the oracle end?
    Thanks

32 bit apps will need 32 bit Oracle client software installed.

  • STW00064: Installing BO XI 3.1 on Windows XP 64 bit with Oracle 64-bit

    Hi all
I'm trying to install BOE XI 3.1 on a Windows XP 64-bit machine running Oracle 10g 64-bit and a SAP Netweaver System.
(The customer wants to run BO on the same machine as BI.)
After entering the Oracle connection parameters I get the Following error:
    STW00226
Database access error. Reason Loading shared object failed. First tried to load library oci and failed because of error: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.
]. Second tried to load library oci.dll and failed because of error: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.
After some trying we've put the 32-bit Oracle client to a directory with the environment variable CLIENT_ORACLE_HOME pointing to it. Still the same error.
Has anyone an idea what I could do to fix this?
    Thank you!

    Hi Philippe,
BO XI 3.1 is a server product and it cannot be installed on on Windows XP 64 bit.
Try using Win2k3 to install BO XI 3.1 or anyother platform as mentioned in the suported platform guide.

  • Connect from Windows Client to Oracle 10g for Windows 64-bit

Have an environment currently running Oracle 10g 32-bit on Windows 2000 Standard, and need to migrate to Oracle 10g 64-bit for Windows. Users connect to the 10g 32-bit database using the Oracle Client for Windows 10g loaded on remote PC's. If we migrate to the Oracle 10g 64-bit on Windows 2003 Server Enteprise Edition 64-bit, what type of client do I have to install on the PC's to access the Oracle 10g 64-bit database?
Any ehlp/insight will be greatly appreciated.
    Eduardo in Michigan

In addition to install 32-bit Oracle client to 32-bit Windows OS, you need to know whether your application is compiled to run in 32-bit or 64-bit.
This is critical because 32-bit application can not see 64-bit Oracle ODBC and OLE DB provider.
For example, MS SQL Server 2005 uses 32-bit DTS, and SSIS, which needs 32-bit Oracle client
If you don't know, get a copy of both 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle client, and try one-by-one to know for sure. Please be aware that if regsvr32.exe in the Windows has been overwritten by older software installation, it won't register some DLL properly, and Oracle ODBC, or OLE DB won't show up as well

the application interacts directly with the oracle client software. The application should not know or care about the word length of the database.

Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

12154 means the client couldn't resolve what you filled in for Data Source. What did you fill in for Data Source when configuring the OLEDB connection? It looks like "nitro" should be the correct thing to fill in, based on your statement that the ODBC DSN you configured works with it.

  • Windows 2003 64 bit and Oracle Client install issues

A bit of background. We are a Microsoft shop using SQL Server 2005 / Windows 2003 64 bit servers. We need to have ODBC drivers and Oracle OLE provider to connect and transfer data vis SSIS.
We have installed a package (ODAC10203x64.zip) for OADC 10.0.2.3 which we downloaded from the Oracle website.
We see the software in the program file group. We cannot find the Oracle ODBC drivers, also can't find the Oracle OLE Provider. However the Oracle installation package shows the Oracle OLE Provider has been installed even though we cannot find it anywhere.

There are MeaLink notes on how to eradicate an Oracle install from Windows, but it boils down to this:
    Stop all Oracle services
    In the registery:
    - Delete all oracle services from the register (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
    - Delete the entire Oralce folder from HKLM\Software
    reboot
Delete the ORACLE_HOME directory and any other Oracle related directories/files. Offhand, it seems like there is an Oracle directory under Program Files.
