Upgrading Crystal Reports for VS2005 Pro

I am currently using VS 2005 Pro with the 10.2.3600 Crystal Reports (CR) version.
I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade to a newer version of CR and still use it with the VS 2005 Pro IDE. I use CR to build and deploy desktop applications which generate reports.
Please advice.

Hi,
You can use RAS SDKs with CR 2008.
Please view this PDF for more information.

  • Error in upgrade Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 to SP1

    During the installation of SP1 of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 (RTM was already installed) I got an error message saying:
    Error 2753. The file "agent.exe.6ED28686_7B19_420C_B255_5B6C1BD2C705" is not marked for installation.
    After a rerun of the setup program (choosing reinstall) the message did not re-appear.
    It happens on Windows 7 x64 with Visual Studio 2010 SP1
    Is this a bug in the installation or an "undocumented feature"?
    Regards,
    Adri

    Hi Adri,
    I had that error once and one other poster also had it. Like you I just re-installed and no error on the second round.
    I believe it was some Windows Process had the file locked for some reason. It's not a bug or "undocumented feature" it's a Windows OS thingy....
    Before uninstalling anything it may be a recommendation to reboot first and not load anything that may be locking dependencies.
    How many times have you seen this?
    Thank you
    Don

  • Crystal Reports  for VS2005 causes a Redistributable error for Windows 7

    HI, I believe I also have a compatibility iossue with pre-bundeled Visual Studio 2005 (VS2005) Crystal Reports and Windows 7 using an XP development environment on a virtual PC.
    I had built and published my VS 2005 desktop application code on a virtual PC running XP.After publishing the application executable to an application server for Windows 7 Kiosks machines to use. These Kiosks machines are used for Member Check In services. I discoverd that I get an error message when I attempt to print something from the application interface which says:
    +"Please install the appropriate Crytsal Reports redistributable (CCRedist.msi) contaning the correct version of the Crystal Reports runtime (x86, x64, or Itanium) required. Please go to http://www.businessobjects.com./support for more information."+*
    In attempting to resolve this issue, I went to the SAP site for help and discovered a help page on  Merged Modules listed on one of the Web pages.
    Next, I tried the suggestion one of the articles had mentioned about using CR2008 Click Once with VS2500 applications when deploying them. So I made sure that I unzipped  this downloaded file and copied over the existing Click Once Bootstrap files, listed in the Windows 8 /Bootstrap/Packages, with those from the SAP downloaded files for 2008 Click Once.
    Finally, I then rebuilt my application in VS2500 and published it using Click Once for the Windows 7 KIOSK to use.
    Unfortunately, when I went to link and run the application's executable using the Windows 7 Kiosk in order to run it's interface, I still got the same error message when I tried to print out a member's  Check In ticket.  These tickets are created using VS2005 Crystal Reports.
    Q) Did I do something incorrect when I used the SAP CR2008 Click Once merged module on deployemnt?
    Thanks.
    Tony

    Hi All,
    I have my application developed in VS2005 . When i am trying to print i am getting the following error:

    I am using Windows 8 64-bit OS.
    Can u please guide me through the steps i need to follow to resolve this error.
    I did not understand the above threads .

  • "Load report failed" after upgrading to Crystal Report for VS 2010

    I switched to Visual Studio 2010 few months ago. Today, I needed to update my Crystal Report reports, so I installed the Crystal Report for Visual Studio 2010 on my local server. I updated my reports and it works fine on my local server.
    On my remote server, I installed the Crystal Report runtime engine for Framework 4.0 (note that my project use the framework 3.5) and published my project. But now I got the following error when I want to create a report "Load report failed". I double-checked the path of my report and its permissions (note that it was working before the update).
    Am I missing a step ?
    Thanks for your help.

    Googling 'FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS' I came up with the following:
    http://forum.sysinternals.com/topic21378.html
    So, no, that does not appear to be the issue.
    However my assertion - given that the correct dlls are loading - is still that either the report is not there (do you see it loaded in Process Monitor?) or the process has no access to either the actual rpt or the temp files that the print engine creates. Those really are the only reasons for report load errors.
    This being a web app, try a simple win app - as a test. All you need is the viewer and CrystalreportViewer1.ReportSource = <path to report> (use a saved data report). Compile, throw the exe on the server. Run. What happens there?

    If you wish to use the Eclipse IDE Software Updater:
    1. Start Eclipse 3.4.1 (Gemini) IDE.
    2. Select Help -> Software Updates...
    3. Select the "Available Software" tab.
    4. Click the "Manage Sites..." button.
    5. If you do not see the following URL listed:
    http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreportsforeclipse/2_0/update_site/
        then click "Add..." and add it.
    6. Select the above URL in the "Available Software Sites", then click "OK".
    7. The Available Software should now list the above URL.  Open the node, and you should see "Crystal Reports for Eclipse".
    8. Check all checkboxes for "Crystal Reports for Eclipse", and "Install..."
    After successful update, you'll see version 2.0.1 listed in Help -> About Eclipse SDK and clicking on the "Crystal Reports for Eclipse" icon (blue swoosh with green diamond).
    If you don't see that version listed, here's some troubleshooting tips:
    Open a web browser, and Go to the following URL:
      http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreportsforeclipse/2_0/update_site/site.xml
    You should get back a XML file listed the current CR4E plugin and language packs versions.  If you get an error instead, it may be because (1) you're in a locked down environment that won't let you access that site, or (2) the CR4E Update Site may be down for maintenance.   If the former, you'll have to download the updates by some other means and upgrade manually.

  • Buffer too small for string - Crystal Report for Vs2010

    Hello,
        I have recently upgrade my VS2010 project to Crystal Report for Visual Studion 2010.
        I have some reports that contains more than 512 characters in the Report Comments section.
        When I try to do a RptDoc.SaveAs(vPath, false) the following error is raised:
    Buffer too small for string or missing null byte.
          at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocumentClass.SaveAs in :line 0
          at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.SaveAs in :line 0
          at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.SaveAs in :line 0
        This line SaveAs was working has expected with Crystal Report 2008. Any idea on why it is not working anymore.
    Thank you.
    Charles

    Hello Don,
        I have start a little project to retest the behavior.
       I have create a new report in Crystal Report 2008 just by clicking New, Finish and Save.
       In a new Windows Application in Vs2010 ,I have added the following Crystal Report Reference.
        CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=13.0.2000.0
       CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=13.0.2000.0
    I have then try the following code and found out the limit of ReportComment is 511 but in the Crystal Report 2008 designer and runtime the limit did not apply.
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
          Dim objRpt As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument()
          Dim i As Integer = 0
          Try
             objRpt.Load("c:\temp\empty.rpt", CrystalDecisions.Shared.OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy)
             Do
                i += 1
                objRpt.SummaryInfo.ReportComments = New String("X", i)
             Loop
             objRpt.SaveAs("c:\temp\dfh_save.rpt", False)
          Catch ex As Exception
             MsgBox("i: " & i)
             MsgBox(ex.Message)
          End Try
    End Sub
         I am able to put has many characters if I insert the report in the Vs2010 Solution.
         If you prefer I can send you my little project.
    Thank you.

  • Crystal Reports for VS 2010 Keeps asking to convert how to stop it?

    I have converted a Web Application from VS2008 to VS2010.  I downloaded and installed the VS2010 Visual Studio version and the conversion seems to have gone alright and after the conversion a dialog box came up to ask if I wanted to convert Crystal reports from a previous version to 2010.  I said yes and everything seems to work including the reports in the converted site.
    However, now every time I open the solution in VS2010 the same dialog box pops up asking me if I want to convert the Crystal Reports to version 2010.  I saw an other similar question by a user but the answers he got were not applicable to my sutuation.
    The environment we have is TFS 2010 based and I created a new branch of the solution in quetsion and did the conversion using VS2010 as described above.
    It may be that I have to make some manula changes to some files to set a flag that the reports are already converted?  I may have to do this manually?
    So the question is how do I get rid of / disable the dialog box asking me to convert each time.
    P.S. I saw references to a beta version on Crystal Reports for VS2010 I have never had this on my computer.  However, I do have both VS2008 and Crystral Reports 2008 and VS2010 and Crystal Reports 2010 loaded on my computer and I will need both installed for the time being until conversion to VS2010 is complete.

    All I need to know is what it is that the CR for 2010 software looks at to determine that an upgrade is required.
    - Not as simple as that. There are all kinds of variables that may cause the issue; from runtime, to references to web.config to VS2010 and so on...
    1) make sure the config file has only assemblies of version 13.x referenced.
    2) download the [Modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip] utility and see if your project is loading any older versions of CR runtime
    3) uninstall CRVS2010, do a repair on VS2010, reinstall CRVS2010

  • Crystal Reports for Eclipse vs. Crystal Reports Developer

    We are developing a Java web application for internal use.  Since we have some people at the company who are familiar with Crystal Reports, we'd like to have them write reports that we can display through our application.  Crystal Reports Server seems like overkill for this project, but the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm#en/JRC_SDK/">JRC</a> sounded like a good fit.
    I have been evaluating <a href="http://www.businessobjects.com/products/reporting/crystalreports/developer/default.asp">Crystal Reports Developer</a> and trying out the <a href="http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/crxi_r2_jrc_web_samples.zip.asp">JRC samples</a>.  The samples don't use the tag library.  Instead, they show how to set session variables and redirect to a viewer JSP which contains a bunch of Java code to use the CrystalReportViewer.
    The samples are so much more complex than the code created by Crystal Reports for Eclipse, which simply uses the tag library:
    <%@ taglib uri="/crystal-tags-reportviewer.tld" prefix="crviewer" %>
    <crviewer:viewer reportSourceType="reportingComponent" viewerName="myreport-viewer" reportSourceVar="myreport" isOwnPage="true">
    <crviewer:report reportName="myreport.rpt" />
    </crviewer:viewer>
    I assume that I should be able to use the same tag library approach without using Crystal Reports for Eclipse, but I haven't seen any tutorials on it.  I'm trying to understand whether I should purchase Crystal Reports for Eclipse instead of Crystal Reports Developer.
    This is the difference, as I understand it:
    Crystal Reports Developer gives you the stand-alone Crystal Reports Designer and the right to run the JRC on an internal server.  It costs <a href="http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjects/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.40434600">$595</a>.
    Crystal Reports for Eclipse Standard provides a free report designer built into Eclipse.  It also includes the JRC for use on an internal server.
    Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional provides "a more powerful runtime engine" with the right to run it on one internal server.  It costs <a href="http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjects/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.52068100">$495</a>.  Is this the same JRC provided with Crystal Reports Developer?
    If the "powerful" JRC is the same as Crystal Reports Developer's JRC, could I install Crystal Reports for Eclipse Standard to take advantage of the Eclipse integration and the built-in designer, but use the more powerful JRC from Crystal Reports Developer, which would also give me the stand-alone designer?

    <p>Hi there,</p><p>     If you are planning on deploying a JRC application then you should definitely be using Crystal Reports for Eclipse for your runtime engine. It is the latest version of the JRC and includes many updates not available in Crystal Reports Developer.</p><p>As for "power" the JRC included in CR Developer is on par with the JRC available in the Basic edition of Crystal Reports for Eclipse. The Professional edition of Crystal Reports for Eclipse provides the most powerful version of the JRC available.</p><p>With the release of Crystal Reports for Eclipse, Business Objects is setting the groundwork for separating Developer needs from the Report Author needs.</p><p>A professional report author will require a professional report design tool. For these users we are recommending that they purchase Crystal Reports Professional.</p><p>The developer, on the other hand, generally needs the SDKs and a toolkit to assist with building applications. We believe that these should be available at no cost to the developer, only charging when the application is deployed (in this case a CR4E Pro license). This is different from the current model with Crystal Reports Developer where we have combined a professional report designer plus the required runtime.</p><p>So, to summarize, definitely use Crystal Reports for Eclipse for your application runtime and have your report authors puchase Crystal Reports Professional. If you need a more powerful engine, access to technical support or plan to deploy on multiple servers then I would recommend purchasing the Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional license for your development purposes.</p><p>As for some tutorials on creating viewer pages, the integration in Eclipse provides a very simple way of accomplishing this. I would suggest reading the section titled "<strong>Creating a New Viewer Page</strong>" in our Getting Started Guide found at the following URL:</p><p><a href="/node/320"><strong> http://diamond.businessobjects.com/node/320</strong></a></p><p>Let me know if you have some follow-up questions. </p><p>Regards,<br />Sean Johnson (CR4E Product Manager) <br /><strong><br /><a href="http://www.eclipseplugincentral.com/Web_Links-index-req-ratelink-lid-639.html">Rate this plugin @ Eclipse Plugin Central</a></strong>           </p>

  • CRVS2010 Beta - Licensing for "Crystal Reports for VS 2010"

    Hello,
    We have Crystal reports 2008 developer license which was upgraded from Crystal reports 11 Developer edition.
    We have migrated to VS 2010 and need to use "Crystal Reports for VS 2010". But we only need to use the runtime version of it and are not using the crystal reports designer. Do we need to purchase/upgrade the license? If yes, then could you please let us know the details?
    Thanks,
    Gulab.

    CRVS 2010 being a Beta, I am not sure that the licensing details have been worked out yet. However, going by past versions;
    Runtime is free for win apps
    Runtime is free for web apps - as long as these are used internally. See [SAP Crystal Reports Licensing Information|http://www.sap.com/solutions/sap-crystal-solutions/query-reporting-analysis/sapcrystalreports/licensing/index.epx] for more details.
    The above 2 I suspect will be carried over to CRVS 2010 - no guarantees, but this would make sense.
    Runtime for web apps deployed to 3rd parties does require extra licensing. The licensing for versions of CR that bundled with .NET 2006 and .NET 2008 are described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317789
    I'll check with Program Management if all of the above applies and confirm once I get an answer.

  • No images when deploying Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005

    Post Author: wcl
    CA Forum: Publishing
    Developed a ASP.Net web site that uses Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005, everything works fine locally.
    Following instructions from  http://support.businessobjects.com/downloads/merge_modules.asp#07 a deployment package has been created using CrystalDecisionsRedist2005_x86 merge module and the website has been installed.
    When it is deployed to a remote development server the report images are not displayed.  The report navigation works, it is the images that are not found when the report is displayed.
    Should the vs2005 key be entered some where on the remote server?

    Thnakyou very much for your quick reply.
    The directory has not been created by the merge module,  which folder should it be created in and what contetants should it have?
    <-edit>
    an example of an image it can not find is "/aspnet_client/System_Web/2_0_50727/CrystalReportWebFormViewer3/images/toolbar/upd.gif",  so does the folder '/aspnet_client/System_Web/2_0_50727/CrystalReportWebFormViewer3' need setting up?

  • Opening multiple reports in Crystal Reports for VS causes database connect limit to be reached.  Seems to be no way to force Crystal Reports to close database connection (other than exiting application)

    I am working on upgrading an application that has been in use for many years.  The application is written in VB6 and I have been tasked with upgrading the current application to Crystal Reports for Visual Studio.  I am using Crystal Reports for VS Version 13.0.12.1494.  The system's database is a Sybase SQL Anywhere 16 database with an ODBC connection using integrated login.  Each of the reports has the database connection set up from within the report.  There is only once database server, so each of the reports are pointing to the same DB.  The database server is currently installed as a "Personal Server" with a limit of 10 connections.
    I have implemented the CR viewer as part of a COM-callable wrapper that exposes a COM interface for VB6 to interact with.  Inside of my viewer component is a Winform that embeds the Crystal's Report viewer.  The COM interface basically maps the basic Crystal apis to methods that the VB6 can call (i.e., Load Report, Set Field Text, Update SQL Query, etc).  This architecture is working as designed and the reports are displaying correctly and responding correctly to changes in queries, etc.
    The issue is that after I open 9 reports, the tenth one will respond with an error indicating that the database connection limit has been reached.  The database connections used by the reports aren't released until after the application is closed.  The application is designed for a secure environment that prohibits the non-administrative user from accessing the systems desktop, so asking the user tor restart the application after 10 reports isn't a viable option.
    I have checked and database connection pooling is turned off for the SQL Anywhere 16 driver.
    I have been digging on this for a few days and have tried adding code in the FormClosed event to close and dispose of the Report Document as follows:
    ReportDocument reportDoc= (ReportDocument) crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource;
    reportDoc.Close();
    reportDoc.Dispose();
    GC.Collect();       // Force garbage collection on disposed items
    I have also tried the following (as well as maybe 20 or so other permutations) trying to fix the issue with no success.
    ReportDocument reportDoc= (ReportDocument) crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource;
    foreach (Table table in reportDoc.Database.Tables)
         table.Dispose();
    crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = null;
    reportDoc.Database.Dispose();
    reportDoc.Close();
    reportDoc.Dispose();
    reportDoc = (ReportDocument)crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource;
    GC.Collect();       // Force garabe collection on disposed items
    Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have been pulling my hair out on this one!

    Hi Ludek,
    Thanks so much for the quick reply.  Unfortunately I did not have time to work on the reporting project Friday afternoon, but did a quick test this morning with some interesting results.  I'm hoping if I describe what I'm doing, you can show me the error of my ways.  This is really my first major undertaking with Crystal Reports.
    If I simply load the report, then close and dispose, I don't hit the limit of 10 files.  Note that I do not logon manually in my code as the logon parameters are all defined within the reports themselves.  The logon happens when you actually view the report.  Loading the report doesn't seem to actually log in to the DB.
    What I did was create a very simple form with a single button that creates the WinForm class which contains the Crystal Viewer.  It then loads the report, sets the ReportSource property on the CrystalReportsViewer object contained in the WInForm and shows the report. The report does show correctly, until the 10 reports limit is reached.
    The relevant code is shown below. More than I wanted to post, but i want to be as complete and unambiguous as possible.
    This code displays the same behavior as my earlier post (after 10 reports we are unable to create another connection to the DB).
    // Initial Form that simply has a button
      public partial class SlectReport : form
            public SelectReport()
                InitializeComponent();
            private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
                ReportDocument rd = new ReportDocument();
                ReportForm report = new ReportForm();
                try
                    rd.Load(@"Test.rpt");
                    report.ReportSource = rd;
                    report.Show();
             catch (Exception ex)
                  MessageBox.Show(ex.Message);
    // The WinForm containing the Crystal Reports Viewer
        public partial class ReportForm : Form
            public ReportForm()
                InitializeComponent();
            private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
                this.crystalReportViewer1.RefreshReport();
                this.FormClosed += new FormClosedEventHandler(ReportForm_FormClosed);
            void ReportForm_FormClosed(object sender, FormClosedEventArgs e)
                ReportDocument rd;
                rd = (ReportDocument)crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource;
                rd.Close();
                rd.Dispose();
            public object ReportSource
                set { crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = value; }
    Again, any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
