Upgrading Server Memory - Need to adjust Oracle DB Memory?
I have created a test database under Windows Server 2003 with 1GB of RAM. Now, we are planning to increase Server memory to 4GB. My question is, do I need to configure something on the Oracle DB? I am running Oracle 10G
If it is non tunable memory there is nothing much you can do..the code may consume a lot of memory....This has nothing to do with increasing the server memory
If you hit a insifficient-memory error a with pl/sql block with 1GB of memory, then you might not hit if the memory of the server in increased...
IF you want to say this as impact then i tend to agree it can impact ....Not realy flt most of the times...

i have a mac mini mid 2011, this device have; 2,3GHz and 2 Gb Memmory.I want to upgrade the memory and i need the list of supported memory modules. i am from turkey.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US -

I want to upgrade my OS from official repository on Primary and Standby Servers. And I have a question:
Will I have a problem with my RDBMS after upgrade OS (e.g. statuses in dba_registry will become INVALID)?It's Ok.
Now I have:
$ cat /etc/issue
Oracle Linux Server release 6.4
No any problem. -
I have a mid 2010 macbook pro with 4GB memory and need to purchase an additional 4 GB to. Do I need to purchase 8GB of memory to upgrade or can a 4GB upgrade be placed next to the existing memory?
You need to purchase 8 GBs as two 4 GB modules. Must meet these requirments:

About memory issue during installing Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003
Hi, all
When I installed Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003 which the server is a virtual server, Oracle only can detect 2G memory.
But there are 4G memory with my server.
I want to know if the Oracle 11g's new feature or the virtual server lead the issue.
Also , I want to get your help to resolve the issue, thanks a lot.Let me get this straight:
You have created some virtual machine using someone's unknown VM software.
You have installed Windows Server 2003 (perhaps, but not confirmed 32-bit) to that VM.
You have allocated 4GB of memory to the VM (we guess ... not sure I'm ready to take your word on this)
You are attempting to install Oracle 11g (presumably 11gR1 32 bit for Windows) in the VM
And the Oracle (installer?) seems to be reporting that you only have 2GB RAM.
Since I personally have installed Oracle 11g 32bit for Windows on Windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM and had no issues, I would be investigating the (unknown) VM environment. -
Need to install oracle application server
i need to install oracle application server. so plz tell me how can i do this ,and i dont know about the oracle application server achitechture.
plz provide some links ..so that i can understand
developers are asking me to install oc4j containerThere are installations guides for the various Oracle Application Server offerings. So my first suggestion would be to have a look around relevant documentation section of OTN and see what you can learn.
As you've mentioned OC4J, that does indicate you are looking at Oracle Application Server 10g:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver10132.html
If you are looking for Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g, then this is the main page to start from:

I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do
Your iMac can take a total of 2 GBs of RAM Max.
Maximum Memory
2.0 GB
Memory Slots
2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
You will be able to install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and it will run, but you may not be happy with the performance overall.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and later OS X versions use more and more CPU, GPU and RAM resources.
OS X 10.6, by itself, will use between 2-4 GBs of RAM to run quickly, smoothly and efficiently.
Start running additonal applications and your iMac is going to struggle.
Just fair warning if you notice that your iMac is running slower after installing OS X 10.6.
Good Luck! -
It says I need one more gb of memory to upgrade my 2007IMAC intel to Mt lion then eventually to mavericks. can I download that memory
Memory = RAM
TheGroz wrote:

That is not how it works...
Macs can be very Fussy about RAM...
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/
http://www.crucial.com
It is Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
Those sites also have videos on how to Install RAM should you need it....

Get as much RAM as your Mac can take. You will need it. -
I have lion 10.6.8, and need to 2 gigs of memory, or 8 of gig space, or both to upgrade. Best way to do this? TIA
If you are upgrading to Yosemite, I'd add as much RAM as the computer will operate on. OWC has tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum.

Is this supposed to be the most reliable database server? A msg to oracle.
Hi, it's been 3 weeks now that I'm fiddling with oracle 11g and I am surprised with the amount of installation/startup/shutdown/management issues that I am facing. I need to evaluate oracle as a possible replacement for sql server, I am supposed to test oracle's scalability vs sql server scalability but so far I was messed up by all kind of installation/management issues. Is Oracle a product always in alpha stage?
I am not new with oracle, I've used oracle 10g in the past and I went through all the oracle library documentation (concepts, dba guide, sql reference etc). By now I am pretty confident with db concepts like control files, redo logs, spfile, tablespaces etc.
I've installed it on 4 machines:
1. windows xp 64bit, 40GB Ram
installation went ok, database + listener + dbconsole started correctly. I did a few things but after rebooting the machine the db did not start! (it complained that it tried to allocate 0 bytes of memory where it needed 2mb for some reason).
dbca is supposed to configure an instance but guess what? To configure the instance if first must start the instance and ofcourse in my case it couldn't start the instance!!!
After reading docs, googling etc, I exported spfile to pfile , manually edited the pfile, imported the pfile as spfile and the db finally started working.
Why on earth a product costing so much can't survive a reboot?
2. centos 5.3 64bit on a P4 machine with 2gb ram
installed ok, database + listener + dbconsole started ok after install. There is no script that I am aware which starts or shuts down the db nor the installer prompted me to install the db as a service (/etc/init.d). So I manually had to create scripts to start/shutdown the db by exporting ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and using dbstart.sh and dbshut.sh and also calling emctrl start dbconsole.
Which means that if someone doesn't shut down the instance before rebooting linux, will the db shut down abnormally?
I would expect a product that costs £13k to install itself properly on linux. mysql is free but comes with proper installations in most linux flavors.
3. centos 5.3, 64bit on an athlon 64 3000+ with 1gb ram.
installed ok, database + listener + dbconsole started ok after install. As you can guess, it didn't survive a reboot. Anyway to make long story short, I managed to create startup/shutdown scripts and all started working.
Then I tried to play admin for a while, i.e. tried to move tablespaces, backup/restore db, backup tablespaces and so on, using dbconsole. Oh well, I can't count the times dbconsole was failing... Are we the beta testers of dbconsole?
But then I needed to change the domain name of the machine and bang! All db services broken again. After fiddling with listener.ora and other config files that I don't remember, I managed to make db and listener work again but not the dbconsole which doesn't want to start and also I don't know where are the log files (there are so many log folders....) Anyway I am still digging into the documentation.
4. fedora 9 32 bit, 2gb ram. Same issues like #2,#3.
I've the following suggestions for oracle:
1. Less configuration files for oracle's next version.
2. Installation should "do it all" for the user in all operating systems
3. a dedicated testing team for dbconsole - it's just buggy
4. improvements on db,tablespace backups and movements. Is it so hard to create a utility that create a zipped backup of tablespaces or the database which can be used on a different server to restore the files?
I've still not worked on my main task : to test scalability. More comments will follow...
Regards,
KostasHi, found the log file, it is under .../dbhome_1/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_server.lan_orcl/log
It appears that oc4j was trying to load the encryption keys file from OC4J_DBConsole_localhost_orcl, didn't find it, oc4j was then exiting but emctl was constantly trying to restart oc4j!!! One more cool "feature" of oracle.
Anyway, I managed to fix that issue but now oc4j/dbconsole still doesn't start, dunno why, the log says:

I also got an other problem. I have a heap table and I've created the same table as index organized. I am trying to copy the data over :
insert into header2 select * from header nologging;
But after around 5000 secs, sql developer gives me this error:
SEVERE 117 1314807 java.io.PipedInputStream.checkStateForReceive(PipedInputStream.java:246)
and the dml stops running. I've run that 3-4 times and it fails from 4800 to 5200 secs so I recon a time out is in place, any idea how to remove this timeout? -
Insert data from SQL Server 2008 St.Ed to ORACLE 11gr2 St. Edition
Dear all,
I'm searching a solution for faster transmission of data of a db SQL Server (2008 St. edition) vs PROD db that is an ORACLE 11gr2 St. edition too.
Actually this operation spend 1,5 hours but I'd like cut this time because size of the data grow up in future and this time could be a serious problem ....
Looking on Oracle Enterprise Manager I've seen that main problem is about commit .. SQL Server every record insert into Oracle TBL generate a commit ... unfortunately I cannot insert when commit must be done ... If will be solved it probably may be solved situation ...
Thanks in advance for every idea.
AndreaNardo wrote:

REDO upgrade was done like first step because anyway it was too small.
Thanks for you answer and sorry again for delay !!!!
Thanks.
If you are depending on MS SQL server technology to do this, you are going to be stuck with the performance of that technology.
A few weeks ago we had a need to load institute a daily load of or DW from a MSSQL database. The MS-centric person responsible developed a procedure (using MS tools) that took 4.5 hours to load 1.2 million rows. I ran a session trace and the tkprof report revealed exactly what has already been described. Single row insert and commit. I knocked together a PL/SQL procedure that did a single INSERT .. (SELECT .. FROM TABLE@MSSQL). and it ran in 4 minutes. Using the Oracle transparent gateway for ODBC. -

PASSWORD Password for the new Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) for 64-bit Windows database. This is the password for the user connected with SYSDBA privileges. The -INTPWD option is not required. If you do not specify it, then operating system authentication is used, and no password is required.
USERS Maximum number of users who can be granted SYSDBA and SYSOPER privileges
ORACLE_HOME Oracle home directory. Ensure that you specify the full path name with the -PFILE option, including drive letter of the Oracle home directory.
Copy the 32-bit datafiles to the new 64-bit Oracle home.
Copy the 32-bit configuration files to the 64-bit Oracle home.
If your 32-bit initialization parameter file has an IFILE (include file) entry, then copy the file specified by the IFILE entry to the 64-bit Oracle home and edit the IFILE entry in the initialization parameter file to point to its new location.
If you have a password file that resides in the 32-bit Oracle home, then copy the password file to the 64-bit Oracle home. The default 32-bit password file is located in ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\database\pwdSID.ora., where SID is your Oracle instance ID.
In the 64-bit Oracle home, add the _SYSTEM_TRIG_ENABLED = false parameter to the ORACLE_HOME\database\ORACLE_SID \init.ora file before changing the word size.
Remove this parameter from the initialization file after the word size change is complete.

Go to the 64-bit ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin directory from the command prompt.
Start SQL*Plus:
C:\> sqlplus /NOLOG
Connect to the database instance as SYSDBA:
SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA;
Re-create the 64-bit control files using the CREATE CONTROLFILE command. Edit the trace file created in "Backing Up a 32-Bit Oracle Database" to change the paths to the datafiles, log files and control files to point to the Oracle home on the 64-bit computer. This creates the new control file in ORACLE_HOME\database.
Here is an example of a database named "orcl32" on a 32-bit computer migrating to "orcl64" on a 64-bit computer:
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "T1" NORESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
MAXLOGFILES 32
MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
MAXDATAFILES 32
MAXINSTANCES 16
MAXLOGHISTORY 1815
LOGFILE
GROUP 1 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\REDO03.LOG' SIZE 1M,
# was 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl32\...LOG'
# on the 32-bit computer
GROUP 2 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\REDO02.LOG' SIZE 1M,
GROUP 3 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\REDO01.LOG' SIZE 1M
DATAFILE
'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\SYSTEM01.DBF',
# was 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl32\...DBF'
# on the 32-bit computer
'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl64\RBS01.DBF',

CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1;
Alter the init file from the 32-bit computer to include the new control file generated in the preceding step.
Start the database in RESTRICT mode:
SQL> STARTUP RESTRICT;
You might need to use the PFILE option to specify the location of your initialization parameter file.
Set the system to spool results to a log file for later verification of success. For example:
SQL> SPOOL catoutw.log
Enter the following command to view the output of the script on-screen:
SQL> SET ECHO ON;
Recompile existing PL/SQL modules in the format required by the 64-bit Oracle9i database:
SQL> @utlirp.sql;
Turn off the spooling of script results to the log file:
SQL> SPOOL OFF;
Check the spool file and verify that the packages and procedures compiled successfully. Correct any problems you find in this file.
If you were viewing the output of catoutw.log on-screen, disable viewing now:
SQL> SET ECHO OFF;
Exit the RESTRICT database mode:
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
The word size of the 64-bit Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database is changed. You can open the database for normal use.This is from the link -
Can a SQL SERVER table be accessed via Oracle Forms
My boss asked me this question today. I am pretty sure the answer is "no", but thought it better to throw it out to the crowd:
"Can a SQL SERVER table be accessed via Oracle Forms?"Yes, this is possible using Oracle's Transparent Gateway. Check out the My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) document "How To Create A Form Based on SQL Server Table" (Doc ID: 564915.1) for all of the details. This document is based on Forms 10g (10.1.2.0.2) so you may need to upgrade your Forms version if you are not already at this version at a minimum.
Hope this helps,

Memory leakage issue in Oracle-DOTNET environment
Hi,
One of my customer is facing a issue of memory leakage issue with their ASP.NET application. Following are the environment details
1. ASP.NET 3.5 application (Uses some Infragistics controls for grids)
2. SSRS for reporting
3. Oracle Server as database (details given below)
The memory leakage occurs while running load testing in his test environment.
The memory is consumed (in tune of 1.2 GB) and then performance is hit.
The memory dump is analyzed and we found Oracle client eating up a lot of memory which is not released.
We tried to use 11g driver also but without any improvements.
Environment Details :
1. Oracle server version –
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Prod
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.1.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 – Production
2. Client version
We are using following oracle client version SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 – Production
(For performance purpose we have used following client version. SQL*Plus: Release 11.1.0.7.0 – Production)
3. ODP.NET version
Version of Oracle.DataAccess.dll is 2.111.7.10
It will be great if any body can help on this issue and guide us on the right track.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks & Regards,
AnoopPlease test it with release version as there may be a lot of things which are fixed after beta.
Also please note down the statement cache size your application was using earlier. Starting from 2.111.7.10/2.111.7.20, the statement cache size is automatically tuned by default. This feature is called self tuning. You may disable self tuning and specify your own statement cache size as usual. To know more about self tuning, please consult ODP.NET Developer's Guide.
I would suggest that you first upgrade to the release version 2.111.7.20. If that does not solve the problem, you may either
- specify MaxStatementCacheSize
or
- disable self tuning and provide your own statement cache size
