Upload File in Web Dynpro Java CO and store it in the context

Hi Guys!
I have developed a web dynpro CO form, and I need to be able to upload a file in an action and then be able to download that file in further actions.. I have evaluated saving the file in the backend via RFC, in KM and also creating a CAF project.. but I think there must be a simpler way : saving it in the context of GP.
Does someone knows if it is possible to do that?
best regards,
Marco.

Hi Marco
In webdynpro java, there are UI elements File Upload and File Download. You can use these UI's to upload and download attachments. From NetWeaver 7.0 onwards, you have IWDResource interface which can be used to upload attachments. But in GP if you want to pass attachment to another action you must use Binary as a data source. Bind the File upload UI element to Binary. In addition, you should define input and out parameters in getDescription method.
Thanks

  • Reading contents of uploaded excel file in web dynpro java

    Hi All.
    I am aware how to provide facility to upload files in web dynpro java. But my requirement is that on uploading a particular file (for eg. an excel file having 10 columns), I need to read the contents of that file and store it in a table in R/3.Can anyone suggest a way how I can read the contents of the uploaded file?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Saurabh.

    Hi.
    I am having the following requirement : I have a FileUpload UI element where user clicks Browse button, selects a file from the local system and presses a Upload button. Upon pressing Upload, the name of the selected file and the contents of the file should be shown.
    In the View context, I have two value attributes: FileName of type String and FileResource of type binary.
    This is the code that I have in the Upload button action handler :
      public void onActionUpload(com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDCustomEvent wdEvent )
        //@@begin onActionUpload(ServerEvent)
        IWDAttributeInfo attributeInfo = wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute(
                 IPrivateReadExcelView.IContextElement.FILE_RESOURCE);
        IWDModifiableBinaryType binaryType = (IWDModifiableBinaryType)attributeInfo.
                 getModifiableSimpleType();
        IPrivateReadExcelView.IContextElement element = wdContext.createContextElement();
        String fname = binaryType.getFileName();
        wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("File selected - "+fname);  //Statement 1
         try {
              wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("Successful");    // Statement 2
              InputStream in = new FileInputStream(fname);
              HSSFWorkbook wb = new HSSFWorkbook(in);
              wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("Successful");    //Statement 3
              int sheetsNo = wb.getNumberOfSheets();
              for (int i=0;i<sheetsNo;i++) {
                   HSSFSheet sheet = wb.getSheetAt(i);
                   Iterator rowsNo = sheet.rowIterator();
                   while(rowsNo.hasNext()) {
                        HSSFRow rows = (HSSFRow)rowsNo.next();
                        Iterator colsNo = rows.cellIterator();
                        while(colsNo.hasNext()) {
                             HSSFCell cell = (HSSFCell)colsNo.next();
                             wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("File uploaded" +
                                  "successfully");
                             if(cell.getCellType()==1) {
                                  wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("00000"+
                                       cell.getStringCellValue());
                             else if(cell.getCellType()==0) {
                                  String str=""+cell.getNumericCellValue();
                                  wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("11111"+str);
         catch(Exception e) { wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().raisePendingException();
        //@@end
    On pressing Upload button, name of selected file is being shown(Statement 1). I am also getting Statement 2 in the output. However I am not getting Statement 3 onwards.
    Where am I going wrong? Can anyone shed some light on this?

  • File Visibility in uploading the file using web DynPro java

    hello,
    i have gone through the tutorial " uploading & downloading the file using web DynPro java".
    the upload functionalty is working fine. but i need to know thw path where these files are getting uploaded ??
    Waiting for the reply..
    Regards,
    Viren Gupta

    Hi Viren,
    Are you are refering to the below tutorial for upload and download:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b0e10426-77ca-2910-7eb5-d7d8982cb83f?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true
    If yes, then answer is that the file is stored in the context of the application only as "com.sap.ide.webdynpro.uielement-definitions.Resource" object. Please read through the tutorial to understand the full process.
    WD doesn't really upload to server automatically unless there is any explicit code written. All it does is to store the file in a temp context which you can access and write your own code to store it in a particular location.

  • Upload file in Web Dynpro and add to Workflow container as SOFM object

    Hi!
    I have a Web Dynpro for ABAP application that should send attachments of uploaded files to a workflow container. I have already managed to do this, and it works fine for TXT files, but when I try to attach a WORD (.DOC) file the file looks corrput when I open it from the SAP inbox.
    When uploading files in Web Dynpro it is as an XSTRING. I have tried out the following alternatives regarding convertion of the XSTRING before it is inserted in the SOFM object:
    1) Convert from XSTRING to STRING using codepage 4110.
    Then it is split into a string table of 255 chars
    2) Convert from XSTRING to STRING using codepage 4102
    Then it is split into a string table of 255 chars
    3) Convert from XSTRING to BINARY format
    I use function module 'SWL_SOFM_CREATE_WITH_TABLE'
    and then swf_create_object lr_sofm 'SOFM' ls_sofm_key.
    before I call some macros to fill the container.
    Anyone else who have tried to do this with success? I'm greatful for any help.
    Regards, Tine

    Hi,
    I had the same problem in the last days and finally I got a quite simple solution:
    I had a look at the FM SWL_SOFM_CREATE_WITH_TABLE an noticed that it calls another FM (SO_DOCUMENT_INSERT_API1) which has a tables parameter for HEX data and is actually able to  create a SOFM object from HEX data.
    I simply copied SWL_SOFM_CREATE_WITH_TABLE as a customer FM and applied a few changes to make it accept HEX data:
    First I added a new table parameter in the interface which gets the HEX data from the calling application (uploaded data using BIN format):
    OBJECT_CONTENT_HEX     LIKE     SOLIX
    Here is the code of the FM (I marked all additional and changed lines with a comment):

    *- set export parameter
      sofm_key = document_info-doc_id.
    endfunction.
    The returned  SOFM key I added to a container element. The element refers to event parameter of type OBJ_RECORD in my ABAP OO Class
    Using this function I was able to raise an event by using Method cl_swf_evt_event=>raise
    that invoked a workitem containing an Excel-File i had uploaded as binary file and passed to the FM z_test_sofm_create_with_table as document type 'XLS'.
    In the woritem preview when clicking on the attachment the file was opened directly in Excel.
    Actually the new lines for calculation the file size is not yet quite correct. At first glance it does not seem to cause any trouble, but I will stll check that. In FM SO_OBJECT_INSERT the size is again checked and calculated if initial, so leaving size initial might also be an option.
    I hope this helps anyone having a similar issue.

  • HI Masters , I need information for file upload program in web dynpro java

    Hi masters,
           i need some inforamtion and documentation on file upload program in web dynpro java

    Hi surya,
    You can follow this procedure to upload the file
    i) Take One Context Attribute named as "D1" of Type "binary".
    ii) Take one FileUpload UI Element in the Layout Tab.
    iii) Bind FileUpload UI Element's data Property to the taken Context Attribute. Here it is "D1".
    iv) Take one Button UI Element in the Layout Tab named "Upload" and in the Action of that Button write the following Code.
    v) The following code Generates one Folder in the Server & inside that Folder given file is Uploaded.
    File ff=new File("FolderXYZ"); // Creates One Folder with the given Name ( Here Folder name is "FolderXYZ")
    ff.mkdir();
    try
    byte b[]=null;
    IWDAttributeInfo objAttinfo=null;
    IWDModifiableBinaryType binType=null;
    File f=null;
    FileOutputStream fos=null;
    if(wdContext.currentContextElement().getD1()!=null)
    b=wdContext.currentContextElement().getD1();
    objAttinfo=wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute(IPrivateAttachView.IContextElement.D1);
    binType=(IWDModifiableBinaryType)objAttinfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
    f=new File(ff.getName()+"
    "+binType.getFileName());
    fos=new FileOutputStream(f);
    fos.write(b);
    fos.flush();
    fos.close();
    objMessageManager.reportSuccess("File uploaded to server");
    } catch (Exception e)
    objMessageManager.reportException("Unable to upload file to server, error is:"+e,false);
    return;
    The Uploaded file is stored in the folder & that folder is stored in the Server's following Path.
    <Your Server>\c$\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0
    You can access your Uploaded file from the following Path
    <Your Server>\c$\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\FolderXYZ

  • How to use Web Dynpro Java isChanged and isChangedByClient

    Hello,
    I have read thorugh a lot of documentation, threads, ... --> but the picture is not geting clearer fro me.
    We have Web Dynpro Java Application (on Netweaver 7.0 SP12) running in Enterprise Portal. We need to tell the portal work protect mode, that we have unsaved changes (how to do this is clear).
    I am struggling with figuring out, that my Web Dynpro Context has unsaved changes. I found the two change-indicators isChanged() and isChangedByClient(), which already confuses me a little bit.
    Anyway, this is what I have figured out so far:
    I am calling wdContext.currentContextElement().isChangedByClient() to figure out changes and when a Save operation has been completed sucessfully, I call wdContext.currentContextElement().node().getContext().resetChangedByClient(). This works for some of the changes made by the user.
    I then tried calling wdContext.nodeABC().getElementAt(i).isChanged() for all nodes of my Web Dynpro Context, but this results in detecting changes before the user ha done any interaction.
    Implementing an own change tracking (i.e. by adding a changed-Attribute to each context node) does not seem a viable option for me.
    So these are my questions:
    - Does anyone now a working pattern relying on those chnage indicators ?
    - Does anyone now how to reset the isChanged indicator (or when it is resetted by the framework) ?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Stefan

  • Web Dynpro Java Internationalization and backend ABAP function modules

    Friends,
    I have a requirement where I want my Web Dynpro Java application to support BRAZIL and CHINESE.
    I have been through the sample programs and tutorials and I understand how to support my application in these 2 languages. The challenge I am facing is how to communicate the language to the backend code (ABAP function modules) so that the function modules can written language specific error messages and texts.
    I searched SDN but could not find anything. Your help is appreciated.

    Prashant,
    When you are configuring JCo connection in WebDynpro Content Administrator, just left language settings blank for metadata connection (you may do the same for data connection). Now WD will supply language of currently logged-in user when obtaining connection settings from system landscape and you'll get necessary functionality.
    By default locale of user determined by parameter sap-locale (sap-locale=de_DE for example), settings of user's browser and lastly preferences of user stored in UME.
    Btw, BRAZIL (or Portugees for this matter) is not fully supported language by SAP, so R/3 side may be not  translated or partly translated.

  • Regarding Copying of Data From Excel file to Web Dynpro Java Table

    Hi
    Can any body give Suggestions that is how to copy or import Row and Column Values in the Excel file to the Java Web Dynpro Table
    Regards
    Chandran S

    Hi,
    First u should include jxl.jar API in ur classpath.
    ind a Resource variable to FileUpload UI. Then from the Fileupload UI, u can get the Sheet variable as
    InputStream fis=wdContext.currentFileUploadElement().getResource().read(true);
    Workbook wb=Workbook.getWorkbook(fis);
    Sheet sh=wb.getSheet(0);
    This can be easily read to a table by
    for(int i=14;i<34;i++)
         String bId=sh.getCell(2,i).getContents();
         String cId=sh.getCell(3,i).getContents();
         String subj=sh.getCell(4,i).getContents();
                    IPrivate<View>.I<Table>Element el=wdContext.node<Table>().create<Table>Element();
                    wdContext.node<Table>().addElement(el);
                    el.setBID(bid);
                    el.setCID(cid);
                    el.setSUB(subj);
    This example reads the excel from row 13 to 32 and column 3 to 5 and uploaded to a table

  • Jar file in Web Dynpro Java Application!

    Hi All:
    I needed a Jar file in my WDJ App.
    I am using SP16.
    Can someone provide ideas/instructions on how to do this?
    Thanks in Advance!

    Create an external library DC, and stick the jar file into the libraries folder.  Create a public part of type compilation, and a public part of type assembly.  Add the jar file to both public parts.  Specify a compilation DC dependancy between the WD application and this DC.  That will solve your compilation problems.
    You also have to create a deployable DC, so you can get the jar file onto the server.  Create a J2EE library DC, and create an assembly usage dependancy to the external library DC.  Build the library DC, and the resulting ear file should contain the jar file.  Deploy the library DC to the server.
    Lastly, you'll also need to create a library reference between the WD application and the deployed library so the class loader can find the library at runtime.  That's done via project properties / Web Dynpro References / Library References.  Create a reference, and fill in the name of the J2EE library.  If you're unsure of the name, use the Visual Administrator to inspect all the libraries on the server - find your library, click on it, and look at the name in the right-hand panel - that's the name you need to use.
    Hope that helps.
    I also hope I got everything right

  • Updating Database From csv File in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi Gurus,
    I'd like to write an WDJ where the (super-)user can upload a csv file and delta-update the content of this file witch an external database.
    Could you please give some me hints & examples.
    Thanks in advance,
    Farid
    ps. answers will be rewarded with points, of cource.

    Hi Farid:
    From your question it seems like you want to write a WDJ application which writes a CSV file after connecting to a database and everytime you do so, updates the file with the new record from the DB.
    For this, I wouldnt think to write an application in WebDynpro since its an over kill, unless you want to host this appln in a portal environment and want it accessible for  a set of people.
    Ideally you could use the JDK api to open a connection to the database and then then file api to write to files. You would need to use an identifier somewhere to know the last record read and written to the file.
    Incase you put in the type of db you want to connect to, i could be of more help
    Thanks,

    I got a WD Component with some context nodes that are mapped to some views and are filled in this views. These context nodes are the dataSource for the Interactive Forms. These forms are embedded in a view by UIElement Interactive Forms.
    My problem is, everytime when I change the structure of the context nodes (i.e. there's an additional attribute necessary), I have to design new forms to get the context nodes linked to the form. My existing forms cannot handle updated context nodes.
    The change in the context node is displayed on web dynpro side, in the dataSource view in UIElement property. But in TA sfp there is the old context node structure displayed without any change (i.e. in number of attributes).
    My forms' layout type is ZCI Layout the interface is based on XML.
    How can I easily update the forms' context node structure without creating new forms every time?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tan

    ok, got it.
    by double clicking on templateSource in UIElement properties the interface can be updated.

  • How to extract the content of a user uploaded txt file in web dynpro?

    Hi,
    I'm working on a java web dynpro component. This component consists of document upload field, where users should be able to upload .txt documents. These uploaded text documents should then be somehow read, and thir content displayed. I am already able to upload documents using the upload field, and store it in the context, but I'm still not able to extract the content of these text documents for displaying.
    Does anyone have any suggestions of how I could do this?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi Alain,
        You can do through this document on how to upload/download files in Webdynpro.
    [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/202a850a-58e0-2910-eeb3-bfc3e081257f]
    Once you have the uploaded file in your context if you are storing it as a byte array then convert it to a string using the String constructor String(byte[] bytes)  and then you can store this string in an attribute of type String which could be bound to a UI element (TextArea) to display the contents.
    If you are using an IWDResource then you will get an inputstream from which you can read the data and convert it to a string for display as mentioned above.
    Hope this helps.
