Urgent : Item source

I have a radio group with submit with a specified source (PL/SQL Function body). My process does not execute on the load of my page but when I click on debug or when I go to the edit mode and I come back to my application, it executes.
My source is "Only when session state is null". When I choose "Always...", it does not execute.
Is it normal ?
I have some problems understanding how to use the source of items...

SQL Query as Item Source/Oracle Reports w/ HTML DB?

I have successfully used a SQL Query as an item source in the past on several occasions. However, in this instance, every time I try to do this, I get the following error:
Error ERR-1019 Error computing item default value: page=3 name=P3_TEST_ITEM.
ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested ORA-02063: preceding line from [database_name]
If I use the exact same query in creating a report region, the page displays fine and the query returns the correct data. Why might this be happening, and what can I do to fix it?
Also - off the subject - is there a way to use HTML DB to deploy reports that are created in Oracle Reports Builder? I have created several employee productivity reports for supervisors and managers in HTML DB, which is great for allowing them to run them live and have fields as parameters for varying employees, date ranges, etc... but formatting them to be browser and printer friendly is an absolute nightmare so far. If I could create and format the reports in Reports Builder and then deploy them using HTML DB, while still being able to offer parameters to the user, that would be perfect. Is this possible?

Can you just setup an Excel/Essbase retrieval to get the data you need? You can't use SQL to query Essbase; here is a blog post that talks about it:

Since I made that post, I have found out that Essbase has now been integrated into the latest version of the Oracle BI Server and, technically, you could use SQL to query the data in Essbase via the Oracle BI Server if you have the right version.

Using SQL Query for page item source does not insert populated value

Hi All,
Following are the attribute details of a certain page item on an edit form:
Display As: Text Field
Page Item Source Type: SQL Query
Source value Expression: SELECT a from tab where id = 'ABC'
Although the field appears populated on the screen, but the value is not inserted in the table.
Can anyone help on this?

One solution is to define a pl/sql function that given a date will return the 'run-date'. Something like create or replace function get_prod_date(p_date in date) return date is

Page Item / Source / Format Mask - Table Column Numeric

Form page to maintain a table row, the item is for a numeric column. Selected/Entered the format mask "999G999G999G999G990D00" for the Page Item / Source. I was under the impression that this would result in the page item being formatted with the mask when navigating out of the item. I can enter non-numeric values and navigate out with no error being raised/reported ... is this expected behaviour?

APEX was touted at being a MS Access application killer and a RAD tool. If the user is presented with having to understand the complexities of session state variables, page item variables, etc. then a lot of developers/users will be switched off. APEX was supposed to appeal to the masses as the pipes and plumbing coding behind having a web application front end on an Oracle database backend was being hidden. The converse seems to apply when implementing functionality like a format mask being applied both on entry and display of several page items. So I may be able to implement the required format validation using Javascript but if I have to apply this functionality to more than one page item in now way does APEX lend itself to RAD, e.g. In Oracle Forms you could select multiple Block/Items and then change a property to apply to all the selected items.

Item Source Types Explanation and Examples

Hi all,
I have been confused about the different type of Item Source Type and how to use them.
I mean i understand for PLSQL Expression or Function, I can just put for example : NVL(:P3_ITEM_NAME,'Default'), GET_SOMETHING(:P0_ITEM_ID)
But I need example for the following types :
1. SQL Query

URGENT: Item apporvals / notifications in 9.0.2

Hi all,
are ther any known issues with portal 9.0.2 regarding setting up the approval/notification feature for items?
I tried to get it up and running without success. I read all the available help pages and compared the guidlines there with my implementation and found no mistakes on my installation.
My environment:
Fresh Oracle9iAS v2 installation. I'm using the seeded portal repository coming with the infrastructure database.

Item source: SQL Query

Any hints why does a text item does not execute SQL Query used as a source while the computation does the thing?
Both are used in Page Rendering phase. I'd like to avoid row fetch process as well. I just want a single query to populate item value without using process/computation.

Probably. The real deal here is that computation is executed before the dml row fetch despite the fact that the fetch row process is in the "After header" while computation set to "Before regions" phase.
Anyway, maybe let me tell you what I am trying to achieve and not what doesn't work for me. On a page I have a P1_IDX item which is set through URL, this is the primary key of table X. Then, I have a bunch of fields from table Y which are all of "DB column" source. First I deduce P1_IDY from a select on X. Then I would like to populate the form items with values from table Y based on the prior computation. Hopefully I'm clear enough.

Item Source Display and LOV

I have an item that is of type 'Select List'. When I branch to the page I would like the value stored in the database to be the default value displaying but instead a random value in the LOV is displaying. I have entered my sql query in the Source field but it is not pulling and displaying that value as the default when I branch to the page.

Source Query: Select status from table where id=:p500_id
Dynamic LOV: select distinct status from table
Source Query Result: Open
Dynamic LOV Result: Closed, Open, Pending, Reopened...
When the page displays, the item has the value of 'Closed' in it rather than displaying 'Open' and then listing the others in the drop-down. Is Source supposed to be ignored in this case?

Call query from database as item source

Hello!
I have a query that is too long to paste it as the record source for an Apex item. It exceeds the limit of 32K.
Is there a way to save that query at database level and call it from the apex item?
If there is, please be so kind and give a small example!

Why not put that code into a PL/SQL packaged function and use the "PL/SQL Function Body" or "PL/SQL Function or Expression" types instead?

Check for Items Source Control Status in Project Explorer

Is there a way to check what items in the Project Explorer are not currently under source code control? Perhaps through property nodes? I didn't see anything that looked like it could be done this way, but I would like to know if there are items in my project that are not in source control that should be in source control.

I do not believe there is any way to tell which files are not currently under source code control through LabVIEW. My only thought is that you could make a call into the source code control API. However most likely the API is not open to external calls and it would depend on what source code control you are using.

[Urgent] Item missing when filling Subclass Information

Hi All,
I created custom form based on TEMPLATE.fmb and all libraries needed have been attached perfectly.
When I fill Subclass Information 'TEXT_ITEM' in property class of an text item, then compile it, the item does not appear.
But in Oracle Form builder, the item still have width, height, pos x, pos y greater than 0.
Could somebody help me..

I extactly face the same issue. It started happening after I uninstalled and installed 10g developer suite. Does anyone know why this is happening?

URGENT - Items archiving in Portal - Whats the best way to do this ?

My client has following requirement -
- The client has lots and lots of content.
- The content must show on site for 6 months.
- After 6 months, the content goes to archives (meaning - it does not show on site, but that does NOT mean its deleted - its kind of hidden)
- The archive content must be searchable
- After 4 years some content expires while some of it remains in archive forever
Currently, the client stores the content on a file system and there is a process that moves the items after 6 months to an archiving area and after 4 years some content is deleted and some is retained forever.
What is the best way to approach this requirement ?
If there is a solution how to move their existing system (content valid for 6 months and archives for last 4 yrs) to portal ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a couple of ways to do this:
1. If the items are all file items and don't have extended attributes, you can just use WebDAV to move the items to an archive location (can be another page or a file system). Use a WebDAV command line utility like sitecopy, combined with the WWSBR_ALL_ITEMS view to select the content. sitecopy should be able to select items based on their last modified date, so you may not have to use the view.
2. If you also want to archive the attributes, or if the items include non-file items, you'll need to use the content management APIs to copy the items to an archive page. Currently there is no delete API, so once you've copied the items you'll have to expire the originals and then manually purge them.

Windows Phone - Cannot bind custom user controll with listview item source property

It is Windows Phone 8.1 (runtime)
I have some problem of binding custom user controll with list of data. I'll make it simple as I can.
My problem is that somehow if I use DataBind {Binding Something} inside my custom controll it will not work.
I need to transfer binded data (string) to custom controll.
It is strange that if I do not use DataBind, it will work normally. Eg MyCustomControllParameter = "some string" (in my example 'BindingTextValue' property)
Does anyone Know how to bind custom user controll with inside ListView with DataTemplate.
