URGENT:Oracle Lite + Win CE + pJava + Replication

We are trying to run a personal Java application on the Windows CE device and replicate the data using the consolidator.
1) How do we access the Oracle Lite Database on the Win CE using Personal Java.
2) How do we replicate/consolidate the data from Win CE to Oracle Lite on Desktop. (other than HTTP)
Thanks in advance
Suresh

Hi,
PPC 2003 != Win CE 4.2
Pocket PC 2003 runs 'on top of' Win CE 4.2, and therefore PPC 2003 API's cannot be used on a Win CE 4.2 device. What processor is your scanner using? If it's not the ARM processor you might need to use a different Oracle 9iLite runtime on it.

    Hello you two,
    I couldn4t get the connection with Java also, I tried for one month, so do you have a solution for this?
    Second (and more urgent):
    I've got the following message on my pocketPC during the synchronization with consolidatorclient :
    "duplicate keys in unique/primary keys"
    Do you know this error and do you know a solution??
    Thanx for help

    Hello Mr. Summers,
    Perhaps you are a bit surprised because you postet your question in 1999 but I have looked through nearly all entries about Oracle 8i Lite because I have the same Problem and I hope that you have some news after the past two years...
    I am also trying to programm the OKAPI but there is a mystirious thing. In the documentation they are writing about a function called okInit. I couldn4t find this function in any of the headerfiles...

    A problem regarding set up of Oracle Lite 3.6.0.2.0 on Win 95, with JDK 1.1.8 and Java 2 SDK ( Ver 1.3 Beta)
    After the installation of Oracle Lite 3.6.0.2.0 on a laptop (with WIN 95 OS), When I run Oracle Lite Designer from start menu, I receive following error message :

    ====================================
    My ORACLE_HOME is c:\program files\ora95_2 and Oracle Lite is installed under the ORACLE_HOME in LITE\DESIGNER directory.
    JDK version is 1.1.8 which is greater than 1.1.4 installed in c:\program files\jdk1.1.8, My PATH, and CLASSPATH are set in AUTOEXEC.BAT as follows:
    set CLASSPATH=c:\Progra~1\jdk1.1.8\lib\classes.zip;c:\progra~1\ora95_2\lite\classes\olite36.jar;c:\progra~1\ora95_2\lite\designer\oldes.jar;c:\progra~1\ora95_2\lite\designer\swingall.j ar

    And, I can run JAVA.EXE from any directory on command prompt.
    With JAVA 2 SDK (ver 1.3 Beta) instead of JDK 1.1.8 I'm getting a different Error message as follows:
    =============================
    java.lang.NoClassFoundError: 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
    Please make sure that JDK 1.1.4 (or greater) is installed in your machine and CLASSPATH is set properly. JAVA.EXE must be in the PATH.
    ==============================
    the PATH and CLASSPATH were set accordingly, as with JDK1.1.8, and there was no classes.zip in classpath
    also the class file or the jar file looks weird or wrapped in the error message : 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
    Another interesting thing I noticed is if I run oldes.exe from Installation CD, the Oracle Lite Designer runs fine, and without error, I'm able to modify tables in the database of my laptop also.
    Could someone shade some light on what am I doing wrong here ?
    Thanks for help in advance .

    Hi,
    I am working on Oracle Lite , its working perfectly on the Windows, synchronizing etc. I deal with Mobile application developement with EPOC , Win CE on Psion Teklogix NetPad.
    Is any one working on EPOC or Win CE Device, trying to Deploy Java Applets , Servlets or JSP.
    It will be gr8 to share experiences.

  • Oracle Lite / Jdeveloper 3.1 / oljdbc40 URGENT

    Hello,
    I am trying to demonstrate that it's possible to develop with jdeveloper 3.1, using Oracle Lite.
    But when I try to open a connection with the POLite sample base (using the business components projet wizard), after having configured jdeveloper for Oracle Lite as mentioned in the release notes (libraries), I allways get the following message:
    "oljdbc40 not found in java.library.path"
    I tried to copy oljdbc40.dll to "jdk_root"\jre\bin and "jdk_root"\bin;
    I have installed the patch 400214.
    Why can't I get success to this connection?
    French Oracle support proposed me to download Jdeveloper 3.1, what I did with a lot of patience (very difficult to access have the connections).
    All what I have tried (I hane spent some full days now on it) didn't lead to any result... An other remark: the problem seems to be identical on Windows NT and windows 98.
    Could anyone help me now, if possible urgently, because I have now to present something working to the other members of this project team.
    I thank the person who will get me out of this blocking problem very warmly in advance, and hope there is a working solution for that... Sincerely. Alain T.S.

    I'm getting EXACTLY the same problem.
    Installation order was :
    JDeveloper 3.0
    Oracle 8I Lite
    Jdeveloper 3.1

  • Conflicts resolution methods in Oracle Lite

    Can anyone please provide the answers of the following questions?
    1_What Methods are used for Conflict detection and resolution for concurrent updates by multiple clients in Oracle lite databases?
    2_ Is there any method that extract semantic relation from the concurrent update transactions and create a global update schedule?
    3_ Does oracle lite use conflict avoidance mechanism?
    4_ What replication method is used by Oracle Lite Database?

    In terms of conflict resolution with oracle lite, which end do you mean? conflict resolution in the client database (ie: oracle lite) or on the server side when processing client uploads (this is just a standard oracle database), also not sure what you are trying to achieve
    *1_What Methods are used for Conflict detection and resolution for concurrent updates by multiple clients in Oracle lite databases?*
    I assume in the following that you are talking about dealing with uploads
    Depending on how the publication items are defined, the process is quite different.
    a) fast refresh publication items
    When the client synchronises, the upload data is uploaded as a packed binary file which is then unpacked and inserted into in queue tables in the mobileadmin repsitory (table names begin CFM$ followed by the publication item name). This is the only action that happens during the actual sync process.
    A second and independent process, not linked to the actual synchronisation - the MGP process, runs on the mobile server, and this has three phases - apply, process logs and compose that run one after the other. You can set the MGP to only do the apply phase, or all three.
    during the apply phase the data in the in queue tables for a particular user/transaction will be applied to the server database. Normally the MGP process is set to have three threads (this can be changed, but three is the default), and therefore three client uploads will be processed in parallel, but each of these threads is independant of the others and therefore should be seen as seperate transactions.
    It should be noted that even if you have 50 or 100 users synchronising concurrently, only three upload sets will be processed at any one time, and almost certainly a period of time after the synchronisation has completed (may be many hours depending on the MGP cycle time)
    As each of the apply threads is a seperate transaction, there is no concept of concurrency built in, and the only conflict resolution by default is based on the server wins/client wins setting of the publication item. where multiple users are updating the the same server record with 'client wins', the first user will update the data, and then the next user will update the data (just a repeat of the previous one). NOTE also that in the case of an update, ALL columns in the record are updated, there is no column level update.
    There are customisation options available to provide finer grained control over the apply process, look at the PLSQL callback packages registered against each publication item for beforeapply, afterapply, beforetranapply and aftertranapply, Apply DML procedures against the publication items and also the CUSTOMIZE package at the MGP level
    b) complete refresh publication items
    where the publication as a whole has a mixture of fast and complete refresh publication items, these normally work in the same way as the fast refresh described above. Where however you just have complete refresh items the data MAY be written directly to the server table on upload
    c) queue based publication items
    These work in realtime, rather than with a delay for the MGP process to pick up the data.
    When the user synchronises, the uploaded data is is written to the in queue tables in the same way, but when this is completed, a package (defined as part of the publication definition) is called, and the procedure upload_complete is run passing in the user and transaction identifiers. This package needs to be hand crafted, but you have full control over what and how all of the uploaded data is processed, but again this is a single transaction for that user. If you want to look at other sessions running, you need to find a way to implement this.
    *2_ Is there any method that extract semantic relation from the concurrent update transactions and create a global update schedule?*
    As noted above, the uploads may be processed in parallel, but they are seperate transactions, so no built ins
    *3_ Does oracle lite use conflict avoidance mechanism?*
    Only the basic oracle stuff, unless you use the customisation options to write your own
    *4_ What replication method is used by Oracle Lite Database?*
    The different types of publication items select data from the server database for download in different ways
    a) fast refresh
    change logging tables and triggers are created in the server database. These are scanned during the MGP process logs phase to determine what changes have happened since the last MGP compose, and what publication items they affect. The MGP compose then runs and this uses the same three threads to process the users in alphabetical order using the change keys to populate data in out queue tables (prefixed CMP$) in the repository. These have the PK values for the data, plus a transaction types (insert/update/delete). All the MGP process does is populate these out queue tables.
    When the user synchronises, the data in the out queue tables is used as a key list to extract the data from the actual server tables into a packed binary file, and this is sent to the client.
    b) complete refresh
    there is no pre-preparation in this case, the data is streamed directly from the server database into the packed binary download file
    c) queue based items
    in real time when the user is synchronising after the apply has been done by the uploade_complete procedure, a second procedure download_init is called. Within this you have to code the data extract, and MUST populate tables (you also need to create them) CTM$<publication item name> these are effectively out queue tables, but contain all of the data, not just the PK values. At the end of the procedure, the data is streamed from these into the binary file for download.
    Depending on the definition of your apublication, you could have one or more of the above types (VERY bad idea to mix queue based and fast refresh unless you are very sure about what you are doing) and therefore there may be a mix of different actions happening at different times
    In conclusion i would say that try and send seperate data to clients so that they do not interfere with each other, and for inserts use uniqueue keys or sequences. If you MUST send the same data to different clients for update, then the queue based approach provides the best control, but as it is real time is not as scalable for large data sets.

  • Oracle Lite ( Windows CE version ) on H/PC

    Hi to all !
    Which version of Oracle Lite for Windows CE supports Java stored procedures and
    triggers and the Oracle Lite JAC and JDBC interfaces on H/PC? I have version 3.6 and 4.0.1 but this versions don't support
    JAC, JDBC interfaces, Java stored procedures and triggers ( this is written in documentation ).
    I urgently need version of Oracle Lite for Windows CE on H/PC which
    mostly supports JDBC interface because I've developed an application for
    Oracle Lite in JDeveloper with
    JDBC interface and I intend to transfer this application on H/PC ( Velo
    Phillips ) with Widows CE 2.0 operating system.
    Does such version of Oracle Lite for Windows CE which supports JDBC
    interface exist at all?
    Please help me.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Password Probs - Oracle 8 Navigator & Oracle Lite Designer

    I have read the thread entitled "Oracle Lite Designer -
    password?", but none of the suggestions have worked.
    Whether I try to run Oracle 8 Navigator or Oracle Lite Design,
    at some point I get an alert box that prompts "Please provide
    a database password?"
    I have looked through numerous sources and find nothing on
    this. Everything I try (that seems logical) for a password
    fails.
    Can anyone shed any light on this?
    I have the following installed:
    Windows 98
    Oracle 8i Lite v4.0.0.1.0
    Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition v1.2.2 for Windows 98/95/NT
    Java HotSpot Performance Engine v1.0.1 for Window 98/95/NT

    Hello,
    I ran into that problem, too. My solution was to uninstall all
    Sun Java parts (JDK and JRE) and reinstall JDK1.2.2
    ("jdk1_2_2-win.exe")from scratch. My CLASSPATH includes only the
    standard classes you can find after a normal OLite4-Installation
    (see OLite4 installation notes or send my an email). And check
    your environment variables for references to old Java parts.
    Now Lite Designer runs with POLITE.odb and my own databases and
    yes - it is slow, but it is Java, so this should explain
    everything.
    What I do not know is where that password dialog came from.
    Sometimes it reappears, but not in my own databases.
    I hope that this will help you.

  • Trouble to connect to Oracle Lite with JDBC

    Hi.
    I have installed Oracle Lite 9i on my PC (Win 2000 Pro). Then I connected an HP Jornada 525 (WinCE 3.0) and with
    ActiveSync I installed the Oracle Mobile Client. Using MSql, I created some tables and did some data inserts - Oracle
    is working fine on the Pocket PC. The next step was to create an Java application that will run on the Jornada to
    connect to this database and edit its data. Here is the initial source code:
    import java.sql.*;
    public class JDBCEX {
    public void JDBCEX () {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    Connection conn = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    ResultSet retset = null;
    try {
    Class.forName("oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver");
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:Polite:Polite","system", "manager");
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    System.exit(0);
    This works fine on my PC, but in the Pocket PC it gave me: java.sql.SQLException: Internal Error. This after I expanded
    the jar files, 'cause before it tells me that ther is no oljdbc40 on the shared library path. I adjusted the classpath on the
    registry, but i does not have any impact ... There is no file with name oljdbc40, only JARs olite40 and olitejdbc40. I installed
    olitejdbcpj40.jar, and setting this library leads to the same error above.
    What could be wrong? Do you have any tutorial or can you list all steps necessary to bring this working?
    Thanks

    If you're attempting to use the ODBC API directly, have you downloaded the ODBC SDK from Microsoft? That will include some sample code, which is a great starting point. So far as I'm aware, you shouldn't need to configure anything in Borland C++ that you don't have to configure in any other C++ compiler to use ODBC.

  • How to cancel a transaction in Oracle Lite 10g R3

    Hi,
    I have a publication with 7 publication items (updatables), Server wins in any conclict.
    I made some changes in some records of the 7 tables of my oracle lite database.
    I synchronize the changes, without any error messages, But I cannot find those changes in the tables in my oracle database (9i).
    So, I check in the Mobile Manager, in the Data Synchronization/Repository/Input Queue.
    I find the transaction #203 with all the publication items.
    I also find an error in the "Error queue", It seems like there was a conclict in one of my publication items. So I choose the option "Take value from server", then the error disapear from the "Error queue". However, the transaction stay in the "Input queue".
    I made other changes to the tables in the database lite, and then synchronize. But It seems like nothing happens, there isn´t any other transaction in the "input queue", and I cannot fin all the changes I made in my database (9i).
    Can anyone help me????

    Dear All,
    I have a few additional queries on the question I posted before
    ADditional queries :
    ==================
    1) What software does lie on the Windows CE platform and how do we install it, because if we install Oracle lite for handheld devices it installs it on the PC?
    2) How can the replication be done with the Polite.odb on windows CE device in the simplest possible way?
    3) If I want to connect to this polite.odb how can i do that from my PC?
    Previous question :
    ==================
    I am working on a prototype between Oracle Lite and Oralce 8i database. I have managed to install oracle lite on PC and also manage the replication between the Oracle database and Oracle Lite database. I can also connect to the Oracle Lite database (It is a ODB file) through SQL plus. But I am having a few problems :
    1) While connecting to Oracle Lite database I get a message
    "Server not available or version too low for this feature" without any oracle error number. The versions are as follows : Oracle Open Client Adapter for ODBC 6.0.5.3.0
    Oracle Lite ORDBMS 4.0.0.2.0
    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning and Java options
    PL/SQL Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    To connect to Oracle Lite database, your give the userid/password@odbc:<<oracle lite dbname>>
    What can be the possible reasons?
    2) I tried to create a database link between the Oracle Lite database and Oracle database and when I try to fire a select on a table in Oracle Lite database I get an error
    "ORA-06401: NETCMN: invalid driver designator"
    so how dow we create a database link between these 2 databases?

    Hi Aman,
    I was going through Oracle® Database Concepts 11g Release 2, Chapter 12 Logical Storage Structures (link below):
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25789/logical.htm#i19599
    *Automatic Segment Space Management*
    The ASSM method uses bitmaps to manage space. Bitmaps provide the following advantages:
    •Simplified administration
    ASSM avoids the need to manually determine correct settings for many storage parameters. Only one crucial SQL parameter controls space allocation: PCTFREE. This parameter specifies the percentage of space to be reserved in a block for future updates (see "Percentage of Free Space in Data Blocks").
    •Increased concurrency
    Multiple transactions can search separate lists of free data blocks, thereby reducing contention and waits. For many standard workloads, application performance with ASSM is better than the performance of a well-tuned application that uses MSSM.
    •Dynamic affinity of space to instances in an Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) environment
    ASSM is more efficient and is the default for permanent, locally managed tablespaces.Regards,
    Ankit Rathi

    This may be helpful (if you still need it)
    In order to use Oracle Lite with Windows CE, I had to write a dll using the libraries and dll's from oracle that were compiled for Windows CE (depending on your processor type: MIPS, SH3, SH4 are supported) There are also sample applications (with source code) that I used to help write the dll. If you install Oracle Lite on a Win32 system, the source code for the sample applications is under /<oracle dir>/lite/pda40/wince and then look under the appropriate processor type.
    I am still working on getting Replication to work from the CE device. I am focusing on HTTP replication, but if you have any idea of how to replicate at all from CE....

  • Where is Oracle Lite DB installed? In Soa Suite inst. dir? Service needed?

    As far as I know Soa Suite can use a separate "full" Oracle (Express) DB.
    However user can omit this separate DB and use the built-in "Oracle lite" Database.
    Is this Oracle lite DB installed in the installation directory of Soa Suite or somewhere else on the hard disc?
    Does it need a Win service to run (similar to "full" Oracle DB) or does it run on-demand
    in AppServer?
    Peter

    you can go from olite to full DB, but not the other way round. When you do this change you may lose state in your inflight messages.
    to migrate from olite to Oracle DB do the following:
    1.) Ensure that the new target database is running.
    2.) Run IRCA script to create schemas for BPEL, ESB and OWSM in the new Database:
    Eg: irca all "localhost 1521 v102" welcome -overwrite3.) Make a backup of the file:
    ${OC4J_HOME}\config\data-sources.xml4.) Change the following ESB and BPEL connection pools to point to new DB resource.
    * BPELPM_CONNECTION_POOL
    * ESBAQJMSPool
    * ESBPool
    You can use either Enterprise Manager Console to perform this changes or edit the file: ${OC4J_HOME}\config\data-sources.xml
    Below is a sample of configuration for BPELPM_CONNECTION_POOL:
    <connection-pool name="BPELPM_CONNECTION_POOL">
    <connection-factory factory-class="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
    user="orabpel_OracleAS_1"
    password="orabpel" url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe"/>
    </connection-pool>5.) If you are changing from Olite DB to Oracle EE, look in the project's build.properties files for DB_URL and change DB_VENDOR from "olite" to "oracle"
    DB_VENDOR=oracleotherwise no change is neccesary.
    6.) Update ESB Metadata - Log into ESB schema (ORAESB) and change the value of DT_OC4J_HOST and DT_OC4J_HTTP_PORT to match your environment Hostname and Port and by running the following SQL script:
    insert into esb_parameter values('ACT_ID_RANGE', '400');
    insert into esb_parameter values('DT_OC4J_HOST', 'soainternal.mycompany.com');
    insert into esb_parameter values('DT_OC4J_HTTP_PORT', '7777');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY', 'com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_DEFERRED_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyTCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_DEFERRED_XATCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyXATCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_DEFERRED_TOPIC_JNDI','OracleASjms/ESBDeferredTopic');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyTCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_XATCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyXATCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_TOPIC_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBErrorTopic');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_RETRY_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBErrorRetryTopic');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_RETRY_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyXATCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_MONITOR_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyTCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_MONITOR_TOPIC_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBMonitorTopic');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_CONTROL_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyXATCF');
    insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_CONTROL_TOPIC_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBControlTopic');
    commit;
    select * from esb_parameter7.) Restart the SOA container and verify the opmn and J2EE container logs for any errors.
    cheers

  • Managing a single Oracle Lite database file

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there's the possibility of using a single database file of Oracle Lite just like it can be done with SQL Server CE. At the moment, I'm using the SQLCE driver of .NET to manipulate my SDF file (SQLCE database for Pocket PCs) without using a SQL SERVER Merge replication; however, I was trying to change my SQLCE database to an Oracle Lite database without using the whole replication thing. I've already installed the whole Oracle Lite 10g kit but it seems it's necessary to create some DNS (that I don't fully understand :S) and that's not what I'm looking for. I hope my explanation isn't that vague and ambiguous. Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    César C.

    See Connection string  and DSN
    It appears that c:\windows\polite.ini c:\windows\odbc.ini need to be installed. odbc.ini must contain the DSN entry for your DB.
    Note you can create/modify these files when you install you application that uses Oracle Lite. If you happen to have an application that dynamically creates the DB then you can reuse the one DSN entry for multiple DBs. Just provide the DB location in the connection string along with the DSN reference.
    string dbpath = Path.Combine(
    Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Windows.Forms.Application.ExecutablePath), "Oracle");
    string constr = string.Format(@"DataDirectory={0};Database={1};DSN={2};uid=system;pwd=manager",
    dbpath, DB, DSN);
    OdbcConnection cn = new OdbcConnection(constr);

  • Oracle Lite Designer

    Hello,
    I ran into that problem, too.
    Bye
    Martin Hanff.
