A doctor should know that you can't just transplant any kind of code from system A to system B...wouldn't work with organ transplants either, would it.
If you have a look at the formula editor in either Answers or the Admin Tool, you will notice the absence of DECODE as a supported function. So unless you want to wrap your DECODE into an EVALUATE wrapper because you doj't want to re-write it, you'll have to reproduce the funcitonality with the funciton actually supported by OBIEE:
CASE WHEN "Incident Customer"."Customer ID" = 'emailuser' then COUNT("Incident Customer"."Customer ID") else COUNT("Incident Customer"."Customer ID") end
^-- which is what your decode does...

    Hey just on this particular point, there's a handy PL/SQL method for escaping quotation characters which may reduce the complexity of the string.
    For example, if I had a string:
    I can't understand why quoting my 'quote' characters never seems to "work"!and I wanted to pass that into a variable, I could do this:
    vc_foo:= 'I can''t understand why my ''quote'' characters never seems to "work"!';or I could use the q function, whereby you enclose your string within a quote delimiter of your choice, like so:
    vc_foo:= q'^I can't understand why quoting my 'quote' characters never seems to "work"!^';
    note: I used the caret (^) character by convention but any valid character will do
    ...all of which leaves your original string more or less unadulterated.
    I find this particularly useful for generating dynamic SQL and dynamic PL/SQL, as it leave the query looking a tad more readable, although if you are chaining together multiple strings with double-pipes, it can make it a little muddier. I find it particularly useful if I'm going to deal with string data from, for example, a field with Irish-derived surnames such as "O'Reilly"...
    Give it a go!

  • Converting Decode function in OBIEE

    Hi Guru's
    we are converting some BO reports to OBIEE and need to convert Decode function
    Below is the Decode function they are using:
    Decode ( sign(nvl(BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC.qty_shipped,0)), 0,decode(BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC.DELIVERY_NUMBER, 0,decode(BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC.Schd_Ship_date_fk,to_date('1/1/1990','mm/dd/yyyy'),'Next Month Backlog',decode(sign(nvl(BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC.Schd_Ship_date_fk, '01-JAN-90') -PAR.PAR_DATE), 1, 'Next Month Backlog', 'Current month will ship')) ,'Awaiting for collection') ,'MTD Shipped')
    i have tried converting into case :
    case when sign(IFNULL("BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC"."Qty Shipped",0)) = 0 then (case when "BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC"."Delivery Number" = 0 then (case when "BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC"."SCHD_SHIP_DATE_FK" = '01-JAN-1990' then 'Next Month Backlog' else (case when Timestampdiff(SQL_TSI_DAY, cast('@{ParDate}{28-DEC-2012}' as Date),(case when "BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC"."SCHD_SHIP_DATE_FK" IS NULL then CAst('01-JAN-1990' as DATE) else "BOOKINGS_DATA_UDTC"."SCHD_SHIP_DATE_FK" end)) > 1 then 'Next Month Backlog' else 'Current Month Will Ship' end) end) else 'Awaiting For Collection' end) else 'MTD Shipped' end
    But it is not workign as expected.
    Can some one please help me with this.
    Thanks,

    you can achieve it by using CASE WHEN condition END function in obiee. nested case also supported by obiee.

  • Using decode function without negative values

    Hi friends
    I am using oracle 11g
    I have at doubt regarding the following.
    create table Device(Did char(20),Dname char(20),Datetime char(40),Val char(20));
    insert into Device values('1','ABC','06/13/2012 18:00','400');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 18:05','600');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 18:55','600');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 19:00','-32768');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 19:05','800');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 19:10','600');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 19:15','900');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 19:55','1100');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 20:00','-32768');
    insert into Device values('1','abc','06/13/2012 20:05','-32768');
    Like this I am inserting data into table for every 5 minutes Here i need the result like
    output:
    Dname 18:00 19:00 20:00
    abc 400 -32768 -32768
    to retrieve this result i am using decode function
    SELECT Dname,
    MAX(DECODE ( rn , 1,val )) h1,
    MAX(DECODE ( rn , 2, val )) h2,
    FROM
    (SELECT Dname,Datetime,row_number() OVER
    (partition by Dname order by datetime asc) rn FROM Device
    where substr(datetime,15,2)='00' group by Dname.
    According to above data expected result is
    Dname 18:00 19:00 20:00
    abc 400 600(or)800 1100
    This means I dont want to display negative values instead of that values i want to show previous or next value.

    select * from

           lag(val) over (partition by upper(dname) order by datetime) prev_val,

             lag(val) over (partition by upper(dname) order by datetime)
           else
             lead(val) over (partition by upper(dname) order by datetime)
           end gt0_val
    from device
    order by datetime
    where substr(datetime,15,2)='00';Please take a look at the result_column gt0_val.

  • SQL Cost of using DECODE built-in

    I'm trying to tune some SQL and wondering about the cost of using DECODE. I believe that by using this function, it prevents any index on the related column from being used.
    Do any "Tuning Gurus" have opinions on the use of DECODE?
    TIA,

    As a general rule, the Oracle built-in functions are pretty fast to execute. You will not really see any difference in performance between a sql statement using a built-in function in the SELECT clause, and one not using one.
    However, a lot depends on where and how you use the DECODE.
    SELECT col1,DECODE(col2,1,'YES',2,'NO',3,'MAYBE')
    FROM table
    will be no slower than
    SELECT col1,col2
    FROM table
    If there is an index on col2, then
    SELECT col1,DECODE(col2,1,'YES',2,'NO',3,'MAYBE')
    FROM table
    WHERE col2 BETWEEN 1 AND 3
    will use it.  However
    SELECT col1,col2
    FROM table
    WHERE DECODE(col2,1,'YES',2,'NO',3,'MAYBE') IN ('YES','NO','MAYBE')
    will not (unless you have a function based index).  But,
    SELECT col1,col3
    FROM table
    WHERE col2 BETWEEN 1 and 3 and
          col3 = DECODE(col2,1,'YES',2,'NO',3,'MAYBE') IN ('YES','NO','MAYBE')
    will.Note that "will" in the above really means can. it is up to the optimizer whether it actually is used or not.

  • Basic query using DECODE not working as expected.

    Version:11.2.0.3
    Platform: RHEL 5.8
    I am trying to use DECODE function.
    In the below example, If the search encounters the string "Enterprise" , then the decode should

    I thought some hidden character was causing the issue, so, I used TRIM. But no luck.
    SQL> create table t (banner varchar2(80));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into t values ('Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production');

    Commit complete.
    SQL> select * from t;
    BANNER

    SQL> select * from t where banner like '%Database%';
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
    -- Trying to use decode. If the search encounters the string "Enterprise" , then return 'Enterprise'
    -- Although the string "Enterprise" is present ,  decode doesn't seem to work.
    -- I tried using trim , upper . But no luck.
    SQL> select 'EDITION', decode(banner,'%Enterprise%','Enterprise','Standard') Edition from t where banner like '%Database%';
    'EDITIO EDITION
    EDITION Standard
    SQL> select 'EDITION', decode(trim(banner), '%Enterprise%','Enterprise','Standard') Edition from t where trim(banner) like '%Database%';
    'EDITIO EDITION
    EDITION Standard
    SQL> select 'EDITION', decode(upper(trim(banner)), '%ENTERPRISE%','Enterprise','Standard') Edition from t where upper(trim(banner)) like '%DATABASE%';
    'EDITIO EDITION
    EDITION Standard
    SQL>
    Just don't understand why decode can't see the string "Enterprise"
    BTW . Where is the preview button ?

    It (a portion string matching) ain't work in DECODE, for this CASE has a advantage of using over it.
    Like
    with t
    as
    (select 'Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production' banner from dual)
    select 'EDITION',
    case when banner like '%Enterprise%' then 'Enterprise' else 'Standard' end edition

  • Using DECODE Function in SQL

    I need to know if there is any way to use a range of values from
    database and decode to certain text. I am able to do with one
    value.
    for example:
    DECODE(column_name,'216767111','Unlimited',column_name)
    above argument works with one value only. How about a range,
    ex: 216767000 to 216767111. I need to use only SQL. No PL/SQL.
    Kinldly need some body's help
    Thanks
    Munis

    Which version of the database? If it's 8i+ then you can use
    the CASE function
    for example:
    (CASE WHEN column_name between 216767000 and 216767111
    THEN 'Unlimited' ELSE column_name END)
    This won't work in PL/SQL because they're introducing a CASE
    statement does soemthing different.
    rgds, APCHello Andrew
    Thank you for response. I am using 8i. 8.1.6. However using
    CASE, I get inconsistent data type, ORA-00932: inconsistent
    datatypes. I able to work it out with other response using
    DECODE(sign(. Do you have any idea why i am getting this error.
    If time permits, let me know

    Hi there.
    Can we use different databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in a same report?
    If possible how?
    Another question,
    Can we change the Provider Name at runtime of the given report. If so the above question is useless...
    Thanks in Advance.

    I tried this using Oracle Provider for OLEDB (the one that supplied by Oracle Client) and Crystal Reports 9. you can drag the column into designer but the image does not appear in preview.
    I guess it's because CR does not recognized it as image, and there are no information that the blob data is an image at all.

  • Using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore

    We are working on implementing a solution using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore. We initially implemented the Cache as a distributed-scheme which in turn uses the backing-map-scheme. We are trying to introduce transaction management and I used a scheme-ref in a transactional-scheme to point to an already existing distributed-scheme. However when I bring up the server, my custom coherence-cache-config.xml file is not recognized and Coherence comes up with the default setting. Given below is the snippet of my configuration file.
    1)     I would like to understand why the below configuration doesn’t work and am I doing it the right way? If not, what is the correct way of doing it?
    2)     There are a multiple transaction management options given in the documentation. Which are the ones that will work with a distributed-scheme and read-write-backing-map-scheme?
    3)     If transactional-schemes cannot work with distributed-scheme, what is the best way to have a distributed cache with a oracle database as a cache store?
    <caching-scheme-mapping>
    <cache-mapping>
    <cache-name>id<cache-name>
    <scheme-name>example-transactional<scheme-name>
    </cache-mapping>
    </caching-scheme-mapping>
    <caching-schemes>
    <transactional-scheme>
    <scheme-name>example-transactional</scheme-name>
    <scheme-ref>distributedcustomcache</scheme-ref>
    <thread-count>10</thread-count>
    </transactional-scheme>
    <distributed-scheme>
    <scheme-name>distributedcustomcache</scheme-name>
    <service-name>DistributedCache</service-name>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <read-write-backing-map-scheme>
    <internal-cache-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <!--scheme-ref>categories-eviction</scheme-ref-->
    <scheme-name>inMemory</scheme-name>
    </local-scheme>
    </internal-cache-scheme>
    <cachestore-scheme>
    <class-scheme>
    <class-name>spring-bean:coherenceCacheStore</class-name>
    <init-params>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>setEntityName</param-name>
    <param-value>{cache-name}</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </init-params>
    </class-scheme>
    </cachestore-scheme>
    <!--refresh-ahead-factor>0.5</refresh-ahead-factor-->
    </read-write-backing-map-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    <autostart>true</autostart>
    </distributed-scheme>

    Hi,
    If you look at the documentation for transactional-scheme here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24290_01/coh.371/e22837/appendix_cacheconfig.htm#BHCIABHA
    you will see that it says The transactional-scheme element defines a transactional cache, which is a specialized distributed cache. That means that a transactional-scheme is already a distributed-scheme.
    You will see from the same documentation above that there is no way in a transactional-scheme to configure things like cache-stores or listeners or even the backing-map-scheme as these are not supported on a transactional-scheme - so you cannot use a cache store.
    Personally I would not use transactional-scheme unless you have some really big reason to do so - the restrictions far outweigh any perceived advantage of having a transaction. There are better ways to build applications so they do not require transactions, that is what we have been doing for years with Coherence so far, and there is no real reason to change that.
