Use of CC -xar

We are working with Forte 6 on Solaris 8 and are trying to build several libraries that contain a large number of template references.
When I build one such library using ar- r and use this library to construct an executable, I get a large list of undefined symbols that correspond to instantiated template constructors etc.
The direct correlation can be seen between the undefined symbols listed at link time with the symbols issued as informational messages by the compiler as it encounters the same template references during a build.
The Forte C++ Users Guide suggests the use of CC -xar to resolve exactly this kind of link problem. However, I get the following error when I try to use -xar to build the library:
ccfe: Sun WorkShop 6 2000/04/07 C++ 5.1
Unexpected flag '-ptm' for '/export/home0/SUNWspro/WS6/bin/ccfe'.
Could not open file "ir.out"
rm /tmp/ccfe.27703.1.s
SunWS_cache: Error: Error occurred in invoked compiler, exit status = 1(2). Aborting....
I had a scan through the options listings and there is no sign of a -ptm flag. Any help would be appreciated ?

Hi Gopinath,
After installing the patch we fall over with compilation with following error,
===================================
"/export/home0/SUNWspro/WS6/include/CC/Cstd/list.cc", line 259: Error: remove_if(bool(*)(const std::T&)) is not
a member of std::list<std::T, std::Allocator>.
"/export/home0/SUNWspro/WS6/include/CC/Cstd/list.cc", line 284: Error: Could not find a match for std::list<std:
:T, std::Allocator>::unique(bool(*)(const std::T&,const std::T&)).
"/export/home0/SUNWspro/WS6/include/CC/Cstd/list.cc", line 312: Error: Could not find a match for std::list<std:
:T, std::Allocator>::merge(std::list<std::T, std::Allocator>&, bool(*)(const std::T&,const std::T&)).
"/export/home0/SUNWspro/WS6/include/CC/Cstd/list.cc", line 344: Error: Could not find a match for std::list<std:
:T, std::Allocator>::sort(bool(*)(const std::T&,const std::T&)).
4 Error(s) detected.
============================
But with un-installing the patch the above errors doesn't comeup.
But we are able to create libs using -xar switch without patch 109490-01.
Our present problem is getting following message at link time.
======================================
/export/home0/SUNWspro/WS6/bin/c++filt: Sun WorkShop 6 2000/04/07 C++ 5.1
ld: Software Generation Utilities - Solaris-ELF (4.0)
Undefined               first referenced
symbol                in file.
======================================
Also we find UNDEF aggainst the symbols listed in libraries. Most of the undefined symbols seems to be member templates.
Any Idea what's going on?
Thanks for the help in advance,
Steve

  • How do you deal with browser incompatibilities?

    I have set up a modest private voluntary organisation website very successfully with CS5 and it shows perfectly on Internet Explorer, but not on Safari. The central section (table) of each page on Safari is offset to the right. Why is this and how can I correct it? Top and bottom sections (tables) are all OK.
    I've used CS3 for years and as far as I know have had no trouble, and could see it on both browsers OK. I know a bit about code but I do find that CS5 expects me to do more with code than I'm used to. I'm also very used to doing tables - is that the problem?
    I've even re-done one of the short pages from scratch to try and work out what's wrong, but same thing happens. I've got several CS5 help books but can't pin this down, apart from the suggestion of doing the Browser Compatibility test on Dreamweaver,which I did, but it said no probs.
    Most of you will know at once what's wrong - something very simple I'm sure - and I hope someone will tell me.
    Thanks to anyone who can help.

    I'm very grateful to everyone who has taken the trouble to comment, and I shall study the replies.
    But looking more at these Forums I think I can see that my problem is really Spry.
    For years I ran 2 amateur websites very successfully using CS3, with Xara MenuMaker as my Menu Bar.
    Then bought CS5 and Xara MM was not compatible with the new CS5 (Xara confirmed this - could only be continued with a long roundabout fix, too complicated for me).
    So tried doing the D's own Spry Menu Bar - eventually got the hang of it (well, partly, let's say). It hasn't turned out beautfully like Xara did (no doubt I'll get the hang of that better later), but more importantly it forces my text on the page below it to jump about, and I can see now that it is probably responsible for whatever rogue coding is causing my offset problem.
    Also - probably significant - the Dreamweaver pages as I work on them on my PC show the offset problem, although when I send them up they seem fine in IE but rubbish in Safari.
    I think CS3 plus Xara is better for me - though I don't like to think I'm defeated, having paid for the update. And Spry menus are much less clumsy to prepare than Xara was. (As an amateur who wants to use Dreamweaver so that I can control what I'm doing, I find that CS3 was less demanding in terms of code than CS5. I seem able to do less tweaking by keyboard and must do more code now.)

  • Xaralx crashing after latest updates 14.10.2007

    OK, after running pacman -Syu yesterday I can no longer use some of Xara's functions. Opening the Export or Options dialogs crashes the app. I have tried re-installing and deleting all dot files related to Xara but it doesnt help (even tried rebooting). One of the updates yesterday was libfont, could it be that something has changed in there that Xara was using and thus no longer allowing xara to run?
    Anyone else having these problems?
    Thanks for your time :D

    Yes 1780, but no it was the one from the xaralx.org site. I could put it up on my webspace, a little busy now but should have it up in a few hours.
    [edit] ok just checked the executable and its like 350MB big, but I stripped it and now its only 12MB and still works (funny) you can get it from http://www.holtegaards.com/xaralx uploading now so wait atleast 10 minutes before you download it.

  • Using process variables in conditional transition

    HI,
    I am usin Oracle BPM 1.03
    I wanto to have a value of a variable visible in the user's inbox. Therefore, I need to use project level variables.
    I also want to use this variable in conditional tranistion, but the condition editor only allows Instance level variables.
    Am I overlooking something? Is there an easy way to use project variable in conditional transtions?
    Matej

    you should be able to manually type the transition condition on the properties tab.
    xArea == "MyArea"
    where xArea is a Project Variable

  • WLS 8.1 hanging when using XA

    I am having an issue with BEA 8.1 hanging when using XA. I have configured it

    Running Windows XP (even fully patched up with SP3 and latest fixes), you probably will have an increasing risk of Windows and IE being attacked. Windows XP has been getting security patches every month for over a decade. So it seems likely that people will continue to discover vulnerabilities in Windows XP that, over time, will be exploited (i.e., used in attacks).
    Windows 8.1? For a good experience, you probably would be better off getting a new computer than installing 8.1 on a system that is several years old. I realize not everyone's budget permits.
    What else can you do? It remains useful and important to keep your third party applications, such as Firefox, and your browser add-ons, such as Flash, up-to-date. It's also a good idea to run quality security software. And practice safe browsing habits like avoiding questionable websites and peer-to-peer networking, and being suspicious of email attachments.

  • Unable to use dtrace USDT in conjunction with -xipo=2?

    We're currently using Studio 12/CC 5.9 and our C++ application includes an internal static library into which we embed several of our own dtrace userland probes (USDT).
    We're looking at updating to Studio 12.3/CC 5.12 but have run into problems with the dtrace probes in release/optimised builds only.
    The basic build process for the library is as follows:
    1) Use dtrace -h to generate a probe header file from a foo.d definition file
    2) Compile (C++) source file foo.cpp which references the macros from (1) to create foo.obj
    3) Use dtrace -G to generate a dtrace probe object foo_probe.obj and update foo.obj
    4) Use CC -xar to create a static library libfoo.a containing both objects from (3)
    This works fine in debug builds with both CC 5.9 and CC 5.12, however release builds with CC 5.12 fail when we try to link a binary against the static library with "Undefined symbol" errors referencing the dtrace probe functions in foo.obj.
    I noticed that with CC 5.12 step (4) above seems to 'undo' the changes made to foo.obj file at step (3). I also noticed that step (4) is much slower with 5.12, hence suggesting that the compiler is doing some extra work, which then led me down the path of removing -xipo=2 from my commandline, at which point I get a library which I can link ok without missing symbols.
    Questions:
    1) Have there been changes to CC -xar which would explain this (eg previously -xipo=2 was ignored for archive creation)?
    2) If it does 'make sense' that I'm having problems here, is there any better solution than simply removing -xipo=2 from the library creation step? Obviously I'd like to get the performance benefits if possible, but I suppose that it may simply not be compatible with the way dtrace USDT providers work...?
    Thanks,
    Matt.

    Hi,
    The way that -xipo works is that at link time it recompiles all the object files doing inlining and optimisation between the files at that point. This will have the effect of undoing the dtrace -G processing, leaving just the raw dtrace function calls.
    You are using archive libraries so one workaround is to use the flag -xipo_archive=... to either none - meaning don't process the archive libraries or readonly which will inline code from the archive libraries but won't inline code into the archive libraries.
    Regards,
    Darryl.

  • Downloading Iso Files (Programmes) and Using them

    Hello,
    I need some help please,
    I have downloaded some Iso files which are intended to be programmes, I can burn them to a CD with no problem using disc utility.
    However, they do not play as intended, When clicking on the cd icon mounted on the desktop, it just displays the contents of the CD and does not launch the programme.
    What should I do?
    Kind regards

    Ne0the1 wrote:

    No. An .iso is a raw disc image, not a programme. It may, however, contain programmes, just like the disc it images.
    Ne0the1 wrote:
    I thought an ISO was just a disc image
    Correct.
    Ne0the1 wrote:
    once the contents were burnt to a disc they would play as intended
    Correct, as long as the file system is compatible. Moreover, it's not necessary to burn an .iso file to CD. It can be mounted under Mac OS X as virtual disc, using DiskImageMounter (which is the default), again, as long as the file system is recognised by the operating system.
    Shootist007 wrote:
    ISO files are for Windows and will not run on any Mac running just OS X.
    Incorrect; .iso disc images can be mounted under Mac OS X without any additional software. The application DiskImageMounter is part of the Mac OS X core services. Moreover, .iso images can be created and manipulated with hdiutil, Mac OS X's disk image utility. From its manpage:
    Raw disk images from other operating systems (e.g. .iso files) will be recognized as disk images and can be attached and mounted if OS X recognizes the filesystems.

    Incorrect. Mac OS X programmes may be distributed in a variety of formats. A .dmg (Mac disk image, which may or may not be compressed) is one of them. They can also be distributed in various archive formats, such as zip, gz, tar, sit (obsolescent), and, of course, pkg (based on xar), which is used mostly by Apple.

    You're thinking in terms of Windows and AutoRun. This does not exist under Mac OS X, because it's a significant security risk (in fact, it's being restricted under recent versions of Windows). There are some automatic actions (configurable in System Preferences > CDs & DVDs) which can be performed by the system, but no equivalent of AutoRun.
    If you want to run software on the CD or disc image, you need to interact with it (eg, double-click) yourself. If the CD was intended to run software automatically, then it must have been designed for Windows, not Mac OS X. If you require more information, you need to give us details about the contents of the respective CD.

    Go to your domain/config/jdbc/portalDataSource-jdbc.xml file. The contents should be like this that is working for me. Make sure that it uses NonXA Driver. Most probably you are using XA Drivers I guess. Take a backup of this file. Manually edit the driver-name and last global transaction stuff. Stop and Restart ther servers.

  • Tutorial Request: How to use / access HTML in FC?

    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=FlexApolloComponents_09.html
    Looking for a step by step to place HTML in a container, iframe, or whatever will work, to access HTML code.
    this is what I'm looknig for:
    "while it is possible to use a subset of HTML with Flash "
    I have a Website that  is HTML
    Several pages of that HTML site need to be accessed from the Flash site built using FC.
    What is the procedure to make the HTML site Linked, or look like it's part of the FC website?
    Can FC use iframes or the equivelent of?
    I can build a site using HTML that can have Flash Placeholders.
    "What is Flash Catalyst? Adobe® Flash® Catalyst™ CS5 software is an approachable new interaction design tool. Transform Adobe Photoshop®, Illustrator®, and Fireworks® artwork into expressive, fully interactive projects without writing code, and leverage the reach and consistency of the Adobe Flash Platform."
    Flash catalyst, unlike XDP6 web generation, is all about generating Flash not HTML, so while it is possible to use a subset of HTML with Flash you should really not be trying to use a Flash generation tool as though it were generating HTML like the Xara software.

    Do you mean system-related access keys or custom-related...????

    I am trying to re-instal Acrobat Pro on my computer after changing OS and resetting everything. I am using the CC panel for installation. It shows it installed and won't let me install it. I doubled check everything on my computer and it is not installed. Even more, all my PDF files now show an HTML extension rather that PDF and only opens in my browser, which means the program is not here.
    How to re-install it, please, when the CC panel installer won't let me do it? Thanks!

    Try "Pacifist"!
    Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package

  • How do I 1)use airbrush type tool in illustrator CS4 or 2) use PS4 airbrush tool on vector line art?

    That's basically my question in a nutty nut.  I am drawing illustrations in Illustrator,
    can't find an airbrush tool there, so I export to Photoshop to use that airbrush and the
    lines pixelate.  I want the clean, vector lines of Illustrator with the yummy fuzzy airbrush tool.  In short, can I go back and forth from Illustrator to Photoshop without the line art ping ponging between pixel and vector?

    See this PDF for one approach. The subject was really more about exploring ways to exploit Isolation Mode, but it does so in the context of a poor-man's "airbrush" effect.
    I want the clean, vector lines of Illustrator with the yummy fuzzy airbrush tool.
    In reality, then, you're not wanting vector artwork to look like vector artwork. Here's the thing:
    Vector artwork, is by its fundamental nature "hard edged." That's one of its advantages and one of its disadvantages. Soft-edged fuzzy effect (and its sister, texture) is one of the mainstays of raster imaging. It's one of the main reasons why there are two primary kinds of computer graphics.
    Historically, soft edges and graduations are primarily done with Blends and Graduated Fills. A Blend is really just a semi-automated stack of multiple paths with incrementally changing color. Grad fills are mathematically-defined variations of a path's fill color across the path. Generally speaking, grad fills are limited to a small set of geometric shapes. For most of Illustrator's history that was a very limited set: linear or radial. So when you needed to render tonal graduations in more elaborate shapes, you employed Blends.
    More recently, programs have acquired a newer construct, which is an elaboration of grad fills: Mesh Grads. Mesh Grads are also mathematically-derived and remain as such up to print time--that is, they are vector. They offer more control over the shape of the color transitions. But that control is quite tedious, and is not at all like painting with an airbrush.
    That's about the extent of it when it comes to maintaining "clean, vector edges". With skill and discernment, the results can look just as realistic as airbrush work, and it can be entirely vector. But the interface for doing it is not an emulation of painitng with an airbrush.
    Far more common than a purely vector tool in a vector drawing program that tries to act like an airbrush is the workaround of applying filters or effects to vector paths. Doing that is not purely vector: It's actually rasterization that is re-applied whenever you edit the paths. If you set such an effect as the current default, then you can draw paths with the Brush tool, the Pencil Tool, or really, any of the vector path tools, and that's about as close to emulating an airbrush in a vector program as you'll get. The PDF mentioned above employs that kind of approach. But you should understand, you're really creating raster images when you do that. It's just that, rather than the raster images being "nailed down", they are effectively deleted and re-created on-the-fly if you edit the paths to which the effect is applied.
    Illustrator isn't great at this. Other programs--Xara Xtreme in particular--do it much faster and responsively. But again, even though it retains the lossless editability advantage of vector art, the soft-edged effects are not really vector art. The are on-the-fly rasterizations of vector art.
    Look up Blends, Grads, and Mesh Grad in Illustrator's Help files.

  • Search inside xar archive?

    Is there a way to search inside a xar archive without actually extracting the entire archive, as there is for the zip format (using the zipgrep command)? If not, is there a way to extract only one specific subfile from the xar archive?
    I need to get one small bit of information from a plist file inside a xar archive (specifically, the Info.plist file in a Safari extension file), and if at all possible, I'd like to avoid having to extract the entire archive just to get that. If necessary, that's what I'll do, I just don't want to.

    etresoft wrote:
    How about just reading the plist from "$HOME/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Extensions"?
    Intriguing idea... I didn't know that information was in there. Do you know if this data written to the cache each time Safari opens, or at install time, or what? I'm guessing the former, since I've got folders in there for all my Safari extensions, and haven't installed any lately. I'll have to run some tests to see if I can find out.
    The only issue I can see is that many of these adware programs are distributed with crapware "cleaners," like CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac and MacBooster. If users have allowed these programs to do their evil work, that data may have been cleared from the cache. Again, I guess some tests will say one way or another.
    Edit: Looks like launching Safari causes that data to be written to the cache, but if the cache has been cleared and Safari hasn't been opened, it would still be missing.

  • How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse?

    How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse - is it an update to load, a stand alone, how does it interface with Muse? I've updated to CC but have no info on this.

    Hello,
    Is there a reason why you want to use Edge Web Fonts with Adobe Muse?
    Assuming you wish to improve typography of your web pages, you should know that Muse is fully integrated with Typekit. This allows you to access and apply over 500 web fonts from within Muse. Here's how you do it:
    Select a text component within Muse, and click the Text drop-down.
    Select Add Web Fonts option, to pop-open the Add Web Fonts dialog.
    Browse and apply fonts per your design needs.
    Muse also allows you to create paragraph styles that you can save and apply to chunks of text, a la InDesign. Watch this video for more information: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/using-typekit-with-adobe-muse/
    Also take a look at these help files to see if they help you:
