Used 30GB in 2 days?!!?!?

Hi, I've used 30GB in 2 days and it seems to be coming from "124-149-191-162.dyn.iinet.net.au" on port 548 which is Apple Filing port, if you need any details just ask.
Screen Shots of port and other
This is just when I started the app (rubbernet) to see what it was, it has since gone up way higher than that.

I realize this may be 2 months too late, I saw your issue when browsing similar topics.
That is somewhat worrying if you don't know why 'the internet' would be using AFP on your Mac.
I would strongly suggest you disable AFP in 'System Preference > Sharing'. Disable file sharing.
Your router should protect you from external requests into the network (that is what a firewall does), so either the router is misconfigured with port 548 pointed to your Mac (never a good idea).
The Firewall may be disabled (a terrible idea).
Or your Mac is running something that causes it to connect to an AFP server at the address mentioned.
Do you have access to the router settings? If not speak to whoever set it up. If port 548 is letting in traffic it may also let in many other ports too.
'Shields Up' can indicate what the router is looks like from the internet (what ports are open, closed or 'stealthed'  etc).
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
The tool looks a little old but the guy who makes it is very good
Run the 'Instant UPnP test' & the sheilds up 'All Service ports' tests, post a text summary here if you want assistance.
Don't keep trying shields up though or your ISP may assume his server is attacking you & block his server (it's just a portscan, but some ISP's don't like it).

  • Useful Code of the Day:  Splash Screen & Busy Application

    So you are making an Swing application. So what are two common things to do in it?
    1) Display a splash screen.
    2) Block user input when busy.
    Enter AppFrame! It's a JFrame subclass which has a glass pane overlay option to block input (setBusy()). While "busy", it displays the system wait cursor.
    It also supports display of a splash screen. There's a default splash screen if you don't provide a component to be the splash screen, and an initializer runner which takes a Runnable object. The Runnable object can then modify the splash screen component, for example to update a progress bar or text. See the main method for example usage.
    It also has a method to center a component on another component (useful for dialogs) or center the component on the screen.
    NOTE on setBusy: I do recall issues with the setBusy option to block input. I recall it having a problem on some Unix systems, but I can't remember the details offhand (sorry).

    Since ios 7 I can no longer use google translate in safari.  I use this page every day to translate friends Facebook entries.  Anyone else having this problem?  And is there a fix?  Currently it is in my bookmark bar beside Facebook and worked fine until I upgraded top ios 7 a few days ago.

    Go to your Google translate bookmark.
    Type in a word then tap whatever language.
    Make a select for the language to be translated to by tapping Dutch (or whatever language you see in the box all the way to the right. You should see a language menu.

    I have CS2 and I use it almost every day.. Today when I tried to launch it, a prompt came up saying my Activation was no longer valid and it closed automatically.  Then when I tried to re-open it, a prompt came up saying "A serious error has occured"  Please re-install the software...  I have no idea where my software is... That was many many years ago?  HELP!!

    When you go to the download page, you must do two things:
    Download this file: PhSp_CS2_English.exe on the download page.
    Use the serial number on the download page in order to install your non-activation copy.
    Do not use your old CD or serial number. It no longer works.
    If you have Windows 7, the advice is to turn off UAC and run the installer as Administrator.

  • In the past month or so my iPhone 5 battery is dying in hours, whereas it used to last all day at least.  Also, I am getting constant "message send failures" when texting and frequent dropped phone calls.

    Just recently my Iphone 5 battery is dying in a just a few hours, it used to last all day or more.  I'm not doing anything different with it, although I have started shutting down apps etc. to conserve battery.  I get constant "message send failures and frequently dropped phone calls.

    My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

    It's actually even easier than using Save As to see the full path to the currently open document. Just do a "Secondary click" on the document title in its window's title bar.
    Like you, I relied upon Save As my whole life to check a file's location and considered it a must-have capability. Turns out it's even faster to use the single-click method to reveal the full path to the open document. It displays the entire path to the current document starting from the level of your Mac, and works for files stored on drives as well as iCloud.
    If you're not sure how to do a secondary click, go into System Preferences, select Trackpad, Point & Click to find the current preference for secondary click on your Mac. If you happen to have a mouse with more than one button, it's probably the right button. As a trackpad user, I check the box to "Click or tap with two fingers," so a simple two finger tap on the title of an open document reveals its full path. This feature actually has been around for a very long time.
    Note that this is not the same thing as the Autosave and Versions menu, which is exposed using a little drop down triangle to the right of the title. There is no visual clue for the presence of this feature - you just have to know it's there, probably because this feature goes all the way back to pre-OS X days.

    Hi,I cannot use Acrobat after 30 days on my new PC Win7, seems to be an issue with activation.
    Thanks
    Wolfgang

    Hi Sukrit,
    The software package was bought from german distributor CANCOM on 2013-01-03.
    I set up my account at Adobe and posted the serial number.
    This is the licence:
    After 30 days I could not use Acrobat. Most time I only need the distiller for creating pdf from
    Indesign. I reinstalled Acrobat several times, after 30 days it stops working again.
    I contacted the support but without success. This PC used WIN XP.
    Now I got a new PC win WIN7.
    I got the message to visit may account, which I did. I can't remember to ckeck the serial
    number.
    Photoshop and Indesign are working. Acrobat stopped after 30 days, this is the point my
    request started.
    Trying to put in the serial number again yields this:
    Please be so kind to clear this issue.
    With my best regards
    Wolfgang Sauer

    Hi ,
    Could you please elaborate more about the issue?
    What are the challenges you are facing with activation of Acrobat ?
    The basic method to activate/license Acrobat is by typing in your Adobe credentials ,i.e Adobe
    ID and password.
    That will let you access Acrobat easily.
    Let us know if you are experiencing any more difficulties in activating Acrobat .

  • Hi, I've been using the 3D function in PS, upgraded to CC2104 and it was disabled (need more VRAM). I then reinstalled CS6 and was able to use it for a day and now, today, I am getting the same message I got with PS CC2014 saying my VRAM is too low again.

    Hi, I've been using the 3D function in PS, upgraded to CC2104 and it was disabled (need more VRAM). I then reinstalled CS6 and was able to use it for a day and now, today, I am getting the same message I got with PS CC2014 saying my VRAM is too low again. I'm in the middle of a project that needs to go live tomorrow. HELP!!! Please.

    Photoshop requires 512 Meg of VRAM or more to use the 3D features - that's been the same for version 14 (CC) and now 15 (CC 2014). Check Help->System Info to see how much your card says it has.

    Your nano would really have nothing to do with it at that point. It is really something between iTunes and whatever server out there on the internet that it is trying to connect to for the update.
    Try posting this one in the iTunes forum, they might have a solution for you.

  • Useful Code of the Day:  Multipart Form File Upload

    So, you want to upload files to your web server, do ya? Well, I've seen this topic posted a few times in the last month or so and many of the response I've seen here haven't included definitive answers. Of course, the actual problems vary, but ultimately, a bunch of people want to do file upload from an applet or application to an existing file upload script (CGI, PHP, JSP, etc.) on a web server. And invariably, there are problems with formatting the HTTP request to get things working.
    Well, I had a need to do the same thing. I realize there are other solutions out there, such as some sample code that comes with Jakarta Commons Upload. But since we all like reusable code, and we also all seem to like reinventing wheels, here's my go at it: MultiPartFormOutputStream!
    MultiPartFormOutputStream is a specialized OutputStream-like class. You create your URLConnection to the server (a static method included can do this for a URL for you, as some of the settings, doInput and doOutput specifically, seem to confuse people). Then get the OutputStream from it and create a boundary string (a static method to create one is provided as well) and pass them to the constructor. Now you have a MultiPartFormOutputStream which you can use to write form fields like text fields, checkboxes, etc., as well as write file data (from Files, InputStreams or raw bytes).
    There are some convenience methods for writing primative type values as well as strings, but any higher level objects (aside from Files or InputStreams) aren't supported. (You can always serialize and pass the raw bytes.)
    Sample usage code is below. Also, any recommendations for improvement are requested. The code was tested with the Jakarta Struts.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    * <code>MultiPartFormOutputStream</code> is used to write
    * "multipart/form-data" to a <code>java.net.URLConnection</code> for
    * POSTing.  This is primarily for file uploading to HTTP servers.
    * @since  JDK1.3
    public class MultiPartFormOutputStream {
          * The line end characters.
         private static final String NEWLINE = "\r\n";
          * The boundary prefix.
         private static final String PREFIX = "--";
          * The output stream to write to.
         private DataOutputStream out = null;
          * The multipart boundary string.
         private String boundary = null;
          * Creates a new <code>MultiPartFormOutputStream</code> object using
          * the specified output stream and boundary.  The boundary is required
          * to be created before using this method, as described in the
          * description for the <code>getContentType(String)</code> method.
          * The boundary is only checked for <code>null</code> or empty string,
          * but it is recommended to be at least 6 characters.  (Or use the
          * static createBoundary() method to create one.)
          * @param  os        the output stream
          * @param  boundary  the boundary

    I have a weird problem here. I'm using the Java POST (slightly altered for my purposes) mechanism but the receiving script doesn't receive any form variables (neither files nor regular form fields). If I try using the same receiving script with a regular upload form, it works. Because I've been pulling my hair out, I even went so far as to analyze the ip-packets. I can see that the file is actually sent through the Java POST mecahnism. Anybody any ideas. Here's the ip-packet of the failing upload:

    The one that works (from the regular post) is as follows:

    HTTP: Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, application/x-gsarcade-launch, application/x-shockwave-flash, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint, application/msword, */*

    HTTP: Date: Sun, 07 Mar 2004 17:14:41 GMT
    ....[data packets]
    One detail worth mentioning is that I don't read a file from harddisk, I'm streaming it directly to the connection outputstream from an image compression utility. But I can see the data in the ip-packets, and even if that somehow didn't work right, it doesn't explaing the fact that the receiving scripts reports no form fields whatsoever.
    Thanks,
    Marc

    How to preserve battery life ~ used to last all day, now it runs out by lunchtime

    I would advise updating to iOS 7. It might improve your battery and the bugs are worked out by now.
    If not wanting to update because of the new look, here are some tips:
    -Turn off bluetooth when not needed.
    -Connect to wifi and turn off cellular data when possible.
    -When not around wifi, turn wifi off.
    -Keep your screen at around 50% brightness.
    -Disbale certain apps or features in Settings<Privacy<Location Services if they are not necessary.
    -Close out of apps in the multitasking bar.
    -Enable airplane mode when you plan on not using your phone for a while.
    Hopefully these tips help you. If your battery does eventually get too bad, you can get it changed out by apple. If youve had your device for under a year, you can take it into an Apple store and theyll give you a new phone in return. Have a good night and good luck!

  • MBR95 using one gig per day.

    My router usage was 1 to 2 gig per day before the new MBR95.  Now it is using one gig per day.  The manual has firewall controls but the router does not.
    What can I do?
    My version is v5.0.4.  Is there a better version?

    Thanks for the modem information. People with those might be interested in knowing they work with the Cradlepoint MBR95 and this is the kind of thing that a search will pick up.
    1 GB a month is 34 MB a day, that’s pretty tough to do. You can eat that up from a couple websites with video ads. 10 GB/mo (341 MB/day) and 12 GB/mo (409 MB/day) is more realistic and pretty much the minimum for a private network with multiple network devices and multiple users sharing the data plan.
