Users Network Diagram

Hi all,
First of all, let me give you what I intend to do in my
coming senior project. I would like to produce a developer
workstation as a web application that will help the developers (not
in the same city) to send their document (codes, pdf, and other) to
other developer to review it or help him/her codes.
The main part in this application (as I see it) is to display
who are involve in a certain developer communication as a network
diagram with some sort of effects (something similar to the
following diagram I draw it).

Network Diagram
So please, if you know something similar or something that
could help me, give me post.

It looks like you want to build a topology component. While I
wish there was one that ships out of the box, there isn't. I have
however seen third-party products that implement just such a
system, though I don't have any first-hand experience with them
yet.

  • Unable to Preserve Users & Network Settings

I am trying to go back to Tiger from Leopard on my iMac G4 (17" 1 GHz). However, when I choose Archive and Install, the option to Preserve Users & Network settings is dimmed out and I cannot select it. First time I have encountered this. Any ideas as to why I cannot preserve the users and network settings?

  • Network diagram to display various of activities

I’m trying to create an Activity Based Network Diagram for a Project Management Application. The application has been developed in Java AWT.
The Network Diagram will contain boxes which represent different activities and are connected to each other by lines signifying the predecessor and successor activities.
The general flow of the diagram has to be from left to right. This has to be developed in Java AWT or Swing or Java 2D.
Please let me know if any of you have developed something similar or can give any insight on how to proceed on this.

I don't know what knowledge there already is concerning Java development (I get the idea from your post that it is not you that is going to develop this). I would look into integrating this application into an existing application framework, like Eclipse or Netbeans. For example Netbeans already has an UML editor that has much of the functionality that is needed for your own application, so the foundation platform of Netbeans is sure to provide much of the nuts and bolts needed. Similarly on Eclipse, the JBoss tools plugin has a JBPM process editor which is very much like what you need.
If this is not an option, then go down the Swing and Java2D path. Most likely you will need to do some custom painting actions (the Java2D side). Then what you also need to do is identify what will be needed to implement the application (functional and technical design) and try to find existing solutions on the internet that might help speed up development. For example I would bet there is some API available that allows for drawing and moving boxes with lines between them, commercial or open source.

  • Drawing Network Diagrams For Virtualized Networks.

    Hi guys,
I'm looking at drawing up simple network diagrams of the virtualised servers and IP addresses.. To make it easier to remember the IPs of the virtual machines and the hypervisor, which can get confusing at times. Is there any basic starting diagram I could
use to give a simple, clear visual representation of the virtualized network, which I could then use as a template for drawing custom network diagrams for my clients.
nb. I dont have visio, but I have photoshop my plan would be to get an image file and just edit this as required.
    thanks,
    J

    Hi Jonathan,
it's a little bit off topic, but maybe my answer can help you.
I know that problem from my own environment. Recently we started to use VeeamOne (free version with a few limitations) for Monitoring the Workload on our Hosts and VMs.
A nice feature is that you can have an overview of the VMs per Host, including DNS-Name and IP-Address.
Maybe you want to have a look at it.

  • Maping users network folders to a MAC OS X

I have a number of domain users who need to get there individual network folder mapped to there profile when they log onto the domain from various MAC in the building.
We use a batch file that maps the users network home folder to there profile when they log onto a PC.
Does anyone know how to do the same process for those same users loggin onto a MAC OS X leopard machine.
Users network folders are stored on a Apple Xserve. Authentication comes first from Windows Server 2003 Active Directory.
(at the moment MAC users accounts are loaded entirely from the Apple Xserve, resulting in the user constantly writing to there profile across the network.
What I would like to do instead is to 'force the local home directory on startup disk', this is an option in directory utility on each mac. This will force the profile to load locally. Then using some sort of script or batch file map the users network home folder to the desktop of the MAC. Therefore reducing traffic across the network as the user profile will be loaded loally and will only be saving to there netowrk folder)
Does this make sense, and advice appreciated...???

I think you need to ask the folks in the Server forum or the Windows Compatibility forum. You might get more luck if you post it there. Someone who has done such a thing might stumble across it here, but you'd definitely find the folks who would know over there.

  • Forward and backward pass - network diagram

Does anyone have a .mpt file that allows you to perform forward and backward pass and display the ES, EF, LS, LF, SL in integer values instead the date formats?

Pardon me for bumping in, but I am assuming you want to show the date number for ES, EF etc.
You can with some calculations in Number fields.
    For example:
Number1 (Early Start No) = DateDiff("d", [Project Start], [Early Start])
    Number2 (Late Start No) - DateDiff("d",[Project Start],[Late Start])
You can continue in the same manner to calculate the number of days between the Project Start and Early Finish and Project start and late finish.
The Total slack field is a numeric value (in days) so no conversion needed.
You can then alter the network diagram view and replace the values as needed with [Number1], [Number2] etc.

  • Network user, network home folder, and the login keychain

I've got everything set up in WGM. I can log the user onto a workstation, and the home folder maps to the appropriate network location.
What I can't seem to do, is get a login keychain working. The keychain exists, in the proper folder on the network home folder. Keychain Assistant First Aid says everything is hunky dory. The problem is that the login keychain won't show up on the keychain list, nor can I add it. If I delete the file from the networked location and run first aid again, it says the login keychain doesn't exist and proceeds to create it, just like I'd expect. Only problem is, the keychain still doesn't show and I can't use it!
So any time I try to save email passwords, Safari passwords, etc. it errors out. Going through the prompted reset dialogs doesn't seem to do anything. I'm not seeing any console messages pointing to errors, either.
    Anybody gon any ideas?

Ok then, I got one for you. Similar sort of thing. Just created a 10.6 server, created all the relevant users within WGM, then imported the home folders from the previous 10.5 server. Ensured all new UIDs matched the UIDs from the 10.5 WGM because it then simplifies permissions - i.e. all the permissions are recognised by the new server automatically for the right users.
Now for one of my users, her login keychain is never open by default. When you start Keychain Access (she's on 10.5.8 btw) you get the System keychain and the System Roots list of certificate authorities, but no login keychain.
Have checked the permissions of her ~/Library/Keychains/ folder and they're correct, as are the permissions for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain.
Double-clicking on the login.keychain file opens it up just fine in Keychain Access, however as soon as you close KA and re-open it, the login keychain's gone again.
I've tried importing a keychain, adding an existing keychain (obviously the login one) and creating a new keychain called login, none of which work - there's no error, it just ignores me.
I'd rather not create a temporary user account, transfer all the docsuments/mail etc, delete the original and recreate a new one using the old name and copy everything back, but unless someone can help me out, that's what I'm going to have to do.
There has to be some guru's out there somewhere that can help???
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

  • Server 2012 R2 how to view RDP user network use?

    Hi All,
In Server 2008 you were able to go into tsadmin, click right on a user and click "Status" which would show their network usage (bytes received, bytes sent).
I noticed in Server 2012, when I check users under Collections this option is no longer there. How can I view a user's network usage?

    Hi,
I would like to check if you need further assistance.
    Thanks.

  • Multiple users, network, cannot save

We've been chasing some permissions issues around for a week or so. We have several workstations on a server-less network. Each editor has a unique user on each workstation. There are a couple circumstance under which file permissions are preventing us from saving fcp projects.
If I mount another workstation and open a project file from that computer, when I try to save changes, I get a "File Error: Unknown File" message.
If I use Save As to create a copy of the project on the remote computer, that file cannot be opened in FCP after it has been closed. The error message here says "File Error: Wrong Type"
The upshot of these two issues is that I can only open, save, create or copy project files on my local computer and still be able to save over them. Any attempt to save over the remote copy of the file not only fails with an error message (unknown file), but a save or save as to the remote computer corrupts to the project so that it cannot be opened by fcp anymore (wrong type).
There are also issues with multiple users saving the same project on a single workstation, not using the network at all. If user A is the owner of a project file, when user B logs on and tries to edit and save that project, the "File Error: Unknown File" is displayed from 1 to 3 times, as fcp encounters each file resource it is unable to overwrite. In this case, the date modified is updated on the file, and changes appear to be saved. The file is sometimes able to be reopened, and sometimes gets corrupted. I have found no combination of modifying the permissions for the file or the containing folder, applying to enclosed, which enables user B to successfully open and save any file created by user A. The "wrapper" level of the file seems to take the permissions changes, and be modifed at save, but there must be some internal resources in the project file package that are not getting their permissions cleared.
As part of my file management strategy, I always prefer to have one single project file that is my working, "final" project, renaming backup copies as I create them. Not only does this avoid confusion about project versions, particularly in a multi-user environment, but it also helps to keep fcp's internal management of the project's capture and render files nice and neat.
I suspect this is an issue that would require a software revision to fix, to allow the project files internal resources to recognize permissions and access by networked users as they are applied to the wrapper of the project file. However, if anyone out there has any recommendations for workarounds inthe meantime, it would help mmee keep things manageable around here. I the meantime, I will continue making new working copies of the projects each time I need to edit as a different user, or work from a different workstation. Just have to wrap my brain around managing all those copies of the project.

    Need a little more info.
How are the computers connected? How do you connect throught the network to view files from other workstations? Are all the computers identical?
If any computer has any updates that are not on all computers, this could cause a problem.
Also, are there any limitations to the user accounts? If each user does not have access to the files...
When you use a server, all of the computers have access to the raw files, (if the files are on the server...I've learned not to assume too much...) but when you have individual workstations you have to have all computers not only connected by cables (i.e.firewire) but you have to connect them through network settings, MY Network, and password in. Always connect to HD so you can choose where to get info. Of course all of this relies on the fact that you trust all of the users to not screw up the workstations they are on...
Basically, each computer has to be a clone of the others, even though they are working independently.

  • Very new user needs help setting up a three user network plus server

    Hi,
I'm an owner/manager of a recruitment company in the UK and we use three mac minis in our office to run our recruitment software (on a filemaker database) internet, mail and MS Office 2008.
We currently use one of the mini's as a 'server' in so much that it has a external HDD attached and shared across the network. We use Airport Extreme to share the internet.
Although to begin with this set up has served us well the amount of data travelling across the network and the prospect of a couple of new employees starting has made me think it's time to invest in a network and server of some description.
With my very limited knowledge i'm proposing the following but would greatly appreciate some assistance from the forum users!
Install OSX 10.5.3 Server on one of the Mac Minis
Get an ethernet switch and cable the three minis together
Use the external HDD as a time machine backup and store all files on the 'server' HDD
Continue to use the Airport Extreme to share the internet over airport.
I have a couple of questions:
Can the Server computer still be used as a desktop or do we need to buy a new mini
Does this set up make the airport base station redundant
As we grow I would envisage enlisting the help of a specialist Mac IT support company but in the mean time any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you again in advance.

I would get something better specified than a mini to be my Mac OS X based server, and although you can run it as a desktop I wouldnt advise it.
You ought to go out and buy the book Mac OS X Server 10.5 Essentials - The only Apple-certified book on Mac OS X Server - which Ive found to be a godsend of a book in getting Leopard Server going. Make sure you get the 10.5 version. Im in the UK and got it from Foyles in London.
Your approach is fine, but Leopard Server isnt as plug and go as the rest of Apples products. In particular it just doesnt function correctly if you do not have working DNS before you start. Period. If you dont understand DNS in your office or If having read the book you find its too technical you might be better off buying a no-brand Network File Store/Disk or even a Time Capsule from Apple if its mainly shared disk space that you need.

  • Question Marks in Dock on users network profiles

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem where my user's network profiles have question marks in their docks.
I am running OS 10.4.10 Server on a MacPro with 6 Intel iMacs all running 10.4.10. When I installed the iMacs I used CarbonCopyCloner so all the software is identical. The disk names are the same and all Applications are the same.
When a user works on one of the iMacs and then moves to a different iMac they seem to loose the icons for their applications in the dock, when you click on the icon usually the application will launch and regenerate the icon. Somtimes and mostly with Indesign the icon will become an alias to a folder within the .app!
This is strange behavior! And it does it on around 10 user logins!
    Has anyone got any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    David Lee

I've had similar experiences to many here. Running Tiger server with Tiger clients. Everything was hunky-dory until 10.4.10 update came out. Then I experienced all types of strange dock problems. Not only would I get docks with question marks, some items would have an icon but it would be the wrong one and the bad icons didn't point to the original applications.
This article shed some light on the subject:
    http://benkreeger.com/blog/2007/09/mac-os-x-10410-breaks-dock-app.html
After reading this article and running some tests, I've given up on managing the dock from WGM.
    Here is what I did:
Made the perfect dock. Then edited the plist with a plist editor and got rid of _CFURLAliasData key/string for each application. I then copied this edited plist to the User Template of all clients with ARD. I also copied it to the User Template on the server. Finally I wrote a script that replaced the dock plist with the "new and improved" dock for each user inside of the network homes directory.
Since then, no ? ? ? in dock. No bad icons either. And when a new user is created they get a good dock as well.
Hopefully Leopard won't find a way to mess this up.

  • Multi-user, networked set-up for Macs - ideas wanted!

Let me say at the outset that my preference would be to wait for the new Mac Pro Towers to come out.  Having said that, however, I'm looking for some ideas on setting up some sort of network environment for editing with either iMacs or Mac Minis.
I run a University Lab with 4 student work stations and 3 office editing suites.  All are connected to the network via gigabit.  In the past, we successfully used the FCP Server as an edit-in-place device.  Well... it was successful at *that* anyway   We shoot long-format, multicam, HD AVCHD (and we want to edit it natively).  Typically 4 or 5 two-camera, hour long shoots a week.  We also do occassional P2 work (2 or 3 camera shoots), DSLR (short pieces) and several three-camera (or more) multicam theater productions (2-4 hours each - AVCHD).
Does anyone have recommendations for a fast and reliable network solution (ideally over ethernet unless Thunderbolt would be a better solution) that would support, say, 4 simultaneous editors?  For the moment, let's say price is not as much of an issue as speed and reliablility.  I already have a 16TB network for medium-term storage of finished archived pieces and raw footage.  I'm looking for something smaller (4 TB), for working projects over the course of a semester.  TPTB would like to have it stored in the Server Room (which is why I said Ethernet over Thunderbolt).
As to computers... I'm no fan of iMacs (I prefer Minis) but the highest end one seems to have an Adobe supported graphics card.  As far as I can tell the minis don't.  Both iMacs and Minis have Thunderbolt but I really **really** don't want the nightmare of multiple external harddrives (been there, done that, hated it!).  Does anyone have experience using Premiere on either a mini or iMac?
Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  This isn't the route I want to go, but the money is available now and the new Mac Towers are not.
    Thanks
    Allynn

I have NO idea if these "exact problems" pertain to Macs, since I think most of these discussions are about Windows... but, some reading (not all PPro, but I put all the links I have saved, just for general information)

  • ??  installing small network/mobile user network --mini as server- wireless

    Hello,
Could someone point me to information regarding setting up a small wireless configuration, where each user node (probably mac laptops) can support multiple mobile users. I would like to use a headless mini as a file server ... again connected wireless,... and then run 3-5 laptops wirelessly.
My goal is that one could login to any node (laptop) and have the files seamlessly accessible. Do I need to load server software on the mini in order to support network/mobile users? I am not looking to control anything else. Are there any documented examples around?
    Many, many thanks

I ended up doing something similar, but I didn't want to be responsible for my son's Dock.  So, I set a different Managed Preference for "Mobility".  I added "com.apple.dock.plist" to the list of Excluded files.  Now the Docks won't sync back to the Open Directory master account, so there can be a different Dock on every Mac for this user.  I'd have to repeat that for other users too.
