Using a DropDownList to filter data

I am working on my first aspx/CR that uses controls on the page to filter the displayed data. I have a crystal report that by default pulls all warehouse data. It is comprised of two separate views. I have added a DropDownList to the aspx page to allow the user to select a single warehouse. I have the crystalReportViewer hidden by default and on the SelectedIndexChanged event of the DropDownList, I have the code to set the crystalReportViewer to visible. I have the code in the ConfigureCrystalReports() section to define the selection criteria. My code is as follows:
    private void ConfigureCrystalReports()
        if (!IsPostBack)
            crystalReportViewer.Visible = false;
        else
            string warehouse = ddlWarehouse.SelectedValue;
            string selectFormula = "{VW_CURRENT_INVENTORY_GL.WH}=" + warehouse;
            crystalReportViewer.SelectionFormula = selectFormula;
<snipped>
    protected void ddlWarehouse_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
        crystalReportViewer.Visible = true;
The page loads with no errors and the report is hidden, but when I select a valid warehouse, I get this error because it's not capturing the value in the dropdownlist correctly:
A number, currency amount, boolean, date, time, date-time, or string is expected here. Details: errorKind Error in File CURRINV_GL_NOLOT_PROD {7FCFCEBF-94D6-4DF0-BA8E-816763C625B8}.rpt: Error in formula Record Selection: '{VW_CURRENT_INVENTORY_GL.WH}=Select Warehouse' A number, currency amount, boolean, date, time, date-time, or string is expected here. Details: errorKind
If I put Response.Write(selectFormula) right after the selectFormula is set, it's not getting the value in the DropDownList - it's keeping the generic "Select Warehouse" which is the default value in the dropdownlist. I tried moving that definition to the SelectedIndexChanged event, but it's not working correctly. I tried adding crystalReportViewer.DataBind() in the selectedindexchanged event but it's still not getting the updated value in the dropdownlist. I need that to fire anytime they change the value in the dropdownlist and then have the report refresh with the new data.

I got this working right after I submitted this question. I ended up moving the whole selectFormula definition to the SelectedIndexChanged event and it works like a charm.

    Hi manishcal16PPS,
    According to your description, you want to slice the fact data on Year 2014 and Product 4. Now you find the result missing the customer 1 and 4. Right?
    In this scenario, based on your Fact Sal table, both customer 1 and 4 are on Year 2015. So when you filter the data, it will not show customer 1 and 4. It returns correct result. For filtering data, either using sub select or specifying slicer axis
    can achieve your requirement.

  • How to use OData Date filter query to filter data from OData NetWeaver Gateway Service?

    Hello,
    I am trying to use the OData Filter query. to filter data records from the OData Service, using Date range for filters.
    Please check the below URL for the SAP's sample OData Service, with filter option.
    Service Query URL :
    https://sapes1.sapdevcenter.com/sap/opu/odata/sap/ZGWSAMPLE_SRV/SalesOrderCollection?$filter=CreatedAt eq DateTime
    It gives out following error :->
    <message xml:lang="en">'$filter ' is not a valid system query option</message>
    Please let me know, if there is any mistake in the Query or is there anything that needs to be done on the
    Backend  Service.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Suraj Kumar

    Hi Jitendra,
    Once again, thank you for your help.
    I am able to filter the records using a date range.
    I am sharing the information, just in case anyone out there might need it.
    The OData Filter Query for Date Range (i.e. with Two date values) will return the results only if the OData Back-end Service is modified to accommodate such filter requests.
    This has to be done in ABAP.
    Please refer the following links which talks more about the Back-end ABAP Service being modified to ensure that the service returns records of data, as per the date range filter query

  • To filter data in two dates using combo box component

    Hi,
    I have a requirement like, i need to filter data in chart between two dates from two combo box.. From combo_box and To combo_box.
    I am using one QaaWS to populate LOV's into Combo box's and another QaaWS for chart data. Universe is the same one on SAP  BI query.
    LOV's are populating into both combo's and chart as well, i used a query refresh button after choosing two dates and press button.
    Data is not reflecting as per the choice of dates.
    If any one have such scenario, request you to share the same....
    Thanks in advance...
    Raj..

    Problem is with ranges, not with dates, my data is working fine with CALDAY (in BI Query)....
    My query variable is on FiscalPeriod month, like "FEB 2011"  to "OCT 2011" and is optional, but it is fails in QaaWS to execute when i try to input any months.
    If we give default values in BI query format is like K4/010.2011 for october month. QaaWS doesnt fail and executes, but if i change any value in QaaWS it is taking as "OCT 2011"
    And in Xcelsius it is not recognizing eaither of the formats like, K4/010.2011 or "OCT 2011"
    the format is not matching with xcelsius.

  • Using a Search Window to Filter Data In PowerPivot on Sharepoint?

    When viewing a PowerPivot workbook natively all is well. However when I save it to Sharepoint and view it via a browser, I find that the option to filter data by typing in a value is no longer present. (All there is is an extremely LONG list of values
    which must be scrolled through and checked.) Being able to type in a value to search on is rather crucial feature when one wants to filter on a row where there may be thousands (or more) distinct values. Using a slicer or the standard filter drop-down in this
    case is pretty unworkable! Is there no way around this?

    Hi Ed,  we have a workaround that one of my team members found.
    Even though there doesn't appear to be a way to have a search window associated with a long filter list, it is possible to filter by column, by clicking on its respective drop-down to bring up a short-cut menu.  From there you can expand either the
    "Label Filters" or "Value Filters" sub-menu (depending on your data-type) and bring up, among other options,  the "Contains..." dialog box.  It's not as convenient but it does the job.
    Now we just need to check with our users that this is an acceptable solution.  Thanks.

  • Filter Data using LDB PNP

    Hi,
    I'm looking to filter data in a report which uses LDB PNP.
    When i enter the 'start dates' and 'end dates' the values goes into PN-BEGDA and PN-ENDDA respectively.
    I want to know whether the GET PERNR statement will filter out the data based on 'start dates' and 'end dates'
    or do i have to loop at each infotype and manually filter out.

    That means its useless to give a selection criteria on the selection screen.
    GET PERNR will get all records, means it will just filter the employee numbers nothing else, everything you will have to do manually by using loops.

    Hi Krishna,
    What is the datatype of the Variable lastupdate ?
    In my case
    Variable
    Name : LastUpdateDate
    Datatype : Alphanumeric
    Action : Historize
    Query : select to_char(to_date(sysdate,'DD-MON-YY'),'DD-MON-YY') from sys.dual
    Then in filter I used
    EMP.HIREDATE>to_date('#LastUpdateDate','DD-MON-YY')
    Thanks

  • Issue in using presentation variable as filter condition in the reports

    Hi,
    I have an issue in using presentation variable as filter condition in my reports the details are as follows:
    Details :
    We want to implement the Max and Min variables through Presentation variables only.we do not want to implement it through session variables in this case.
    We have two variables MIN and MAX to be used as Presentation Variables,for a column of the report (which is a quantity),so that the user wants to see the data for this column within a particular range.i.e the Min and the Max.This part has been implemented well . The issue is when the user wants to see the full data.In that case we will not pass any values to these two Presentation Variable or in other words we are not restricting the report data so we are not passing any value to the variables,this is when the report is throwing the error. we want to leave this variables blank in that case.but this is giving error.
    Please suggest how can I overcome this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    i think you have to use guided navigation for this. create two reports first is the one you are having currently and second is the one in which remove the presentation variable from the column formula. i.e. the same report with no aggregation applied.
    Now create a dummy report and make it return value only when the presentation variable value is not equal to max or min. guide the report to navigate between the first and second report based on the result of the dummy report.

    Hi,
    I'm creating a single XML view on 3 relational tables. These table represent:

    Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
       4 - filter(:B1<2)
    Note
       - dynamic sampling used for this statementSo, it doesn't use any index any more and creates a XMLSequenceFromXMLType instead. This one is then parsed which results in really bad performance.
    I've tried to add extra indexes to the tables, but that didn't result in an optimilization. From a SQL point of view this seems quite easy, but using the view it gives me problems.
    Is there someone who can explain me what is happening here? Or give me some pointers?
    Please let me know if you need to know more, or if something is unclear.

  • Using sql in the filter expression

    For a project I need to use a filter which is a construction
    with BETWEEN dateFrom AND dateTo.
    But the user does not choose these datevalues,
    he chooses timePeriods which have a unique startDate.
    The dashboard prompts are populated with these timePeriods and the user chooses 2 of these and 2
    presentation variables are set.
    Now I need to retrieve the according startDate for a chosen timePeriod.
    I tried to do this using a sub-query in the filter expression,
    but this seems not to be valid in Answers.
    In standard SQL it is expressed like this:
    select table1.* from table1
    where table1.dateValue  BETWEEN
    +(select table2.startDate from table2 where table2.timePeriod = 'theChosenValue1')+
    AND
    +(select table2.startDate from table2 where table2.timePeriod = 'theChosenValue2')+
    The return of the subqueries are single row, as it should in such constructions.
    I want the where clause to be in the filter expression for the dateValue column in Answers.(trimming of the WHERE keyword)
    Is there any other construction that does this trick in the BI Answers/Dashboard environment to do this?
    Kind regards

    Hi Micek,
    Thanks for your quick reaction.
    Yes you are right the ChosenValues will be replaced by presentation-variables in the final dashboard,
    I just am testing it with constant values in the Answers module.
    The problem seems to be that it is not allowed to use a sub-query in the filter expression.
    The Answers web application says there is a syntax problem near <select>, while I expect the SQL to be valid.
    I guess not all regular SQL is allowed in filter expressions.
    And since the report does not try to fetch data, no log of a generated, real SQL is written to the logfile.
    I need some alternative for the subquery, but one that is allowed in the filter expression.
    The problem is based on the fact that the user chooses a different value then the one that is filtered on.
    The timePeriods represent just one startDate, but I cannot use timePeriod itself to filter on.
    Because I need a between value, wich does not make sense for a timePeriod element
    such as '01-08' or 'JAN-08'.
    Several timePeriod notations are used, so using SubString and || to calculate a numeric value from the timePeriod varchar2 is not a good option.
    The error says:
    Error getting drill information: SELECT "....
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27002] Near <SELECT>: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012] . (HY000)
    Any input is welcome
    kind regards

  • Error while using the Geospatial Range FIlter

    Hello,
    When I try to use the Geospatial Range Filter I get the error:
    javax.portlet.PortletException: com.endeca.portal.data.DataSourceException: An error occurred while executing query: exception encountered while executing external function 'internal:navigation-query', caused by error endeca-err:MDEX0001 : Invalid input : Error in selection filter: "DISTANCE" is not a valid function on the types (mdex:geocode-set, mdex:geocode)
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks!
    Marco

    Marco,
    you are dealing here with trying to use a function DISTANCE on mdex:geocode type and mdex:geocode-set, where:
    mdex:geocode Represents a latitude and longitude pair. Used for atomic values (from single-assign geocode attributes).
    mdex:geocode-set  Represents a latitude and longitude pair. Used for sets (from multi-assign geocode attributes).
    However, many functions and operators work on atomic data types and do not support sets.
    Quoting from the EQL Guide:
    Important: With three exceptions, all the functions and operators described in this chapter work only on atomic data types. That is, they are not supported with sets. The three exceptions are
    ARB,COUNT, and
    COUNTDISTINCT. For information on the set functions, see  Sets and Multi-assign Data.

  • How to use, Case function and Filter in Column Formula?

    Hello All,
    I am using case function and also would like to filter value to populate.
    Below is showing error :
    case
    when '@{Time}' = 'Year' then "Time"."Fiscal Year"
    when '@{Time}' = 'Quarter' then "Time"."Fiscal Quarter"
    when '@{Time}' = 'Month' then FILTER ("Time"."Fiscal Period" USING "Time"."Fiscal Period" NOT LIKE 'A%')
    else ifnull('@{Time}','Selection Failed') end
    Thanks, AK

    when '@{Time}' = 'Month' then FILTER ("Time"."Fiscal Period" USING "Time"."Fiscal Period" NOT LIKE 'A%')I dont think Filter this works here or any other data types except number.
    Try to use option Column's->Filter->Advanced->Convert this filter to SQL

  • Question about using "current_date" in OBIEE filter

    Hello guys
    I have a metadata set up as the following:
    Logical Fact table has 2 LTS, each has a fragmentation content defined as:
    LTS1 ----- Dim.Dates < current_date
    LTS2 ----- Dim.Dates >= Current_date
    With this setup, when the filter on the dates column is selected to be current_date's date or after, the query will hit LTS2 fact, otherwise it will hit LTS1.
    I have a report that need to filter dates between yesterday's date and 20 days ago from yesterday, in other words, it's like a rolling 20 days. I configured the filter using "is between Timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-20,current_date) and Timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-1,current_date)"
    It is showing me the correct data as far as that goes, however, it is taking much longer time to get the result because the SQL query is doing a "union all" since "Current_date" is still being used to scan the table, the it seems that the filter is making the query to go throu both LTS1 and LTS2 and union the results. Therefore, not only it is taking longer to return data, but also returning incorrect data as well.
    Is there a way I can configure the filter so that it is still giving the right dates and without going throu both LTS tables with "union all?" I have tried creating 2 dynamic variables that has "select trunc(sysdate -1) from dual" and "select trunc(sysdate -20) from dual", however when adding these 2 variables on the filter, it will return no data.
    Please help
    Much thanks

    Hi, Shereen. Every Powerbook battery wants to be used — drained and then recharged — at least every couple of weeks. If you've always used your Powerbook on AC power nearly all the time, and not followed that pattern of discharging and recharging the battery every week or two, it's possible that your use habits have shortened the lifespan and prematurely diminished the capacity of your old battery. Of course it's also possible that your battery is merely old, as a battery's capacity also diminishes with age regardless of how it's used. You didn't say how old the battery is in years, so this may or may not be an issue. I mention it only because it can be an issue.
    For general information on handling a battery for the longest possible lifespan, see this article. My advice on the basis of that article and long experience reading these forums is that it would be OK to do as you propose, but I doubt that you'd derive any significant benefit from it. You would still want to be sure of putting the new battery through a charge/discharge cycle every week or two, even if you didn't have a reason to use the Powerbook away from home or your desk, because sitting unused outside the computer is just as bad for a battery as sitting unused inside it. And you should never remove the battery from your computer when it's completely or almost completely discharged and let it sit that way any longer than a day or two.

  • How to filter data from a source XML? Please help!

    Hi Experts,
       I have a source XML as shown below:
        <Inventory>
         <InventoryItem>
           <ItemCode>InTransit</ItemCode>
           <Quantity>1000</Quantity>
         </InventoryItem>
         <InventoryItem>
           <ItemCode>Available</ItemCode>
           <Quantity>1500</Quantity>
         </InventoryItem>
         <InventoryItem>
           <ItemCode>Restricted</ItemCode>
           <Quantity>2500</Quantity>
         </InventoryItem>
        </Inventory>
    My Target XML is as below
        <Inventory>
          <stock>1500</stock>
        </Inventory>
    The stock element contains Quantity value where ItemCode is 'Available'.
    But note that there are 3 InventoryItem nodes.
    So how to get the desired target XML in XI mapping? Basically I have to filter data from source XML based on value of an element. What is the best approach to handle this?
    Kindly help
    Thanks
    Gopal

    Hi venkat,
              Your solution does'nt work fine. But why are you using collapsecontext and splitbyvalue before putting the value into stock element?
               Kindly explain your concept.
    My target message is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Inventory>
       <InventoryItem>
          <ItemCode>InTransit</ItemCode>
          <Quantity>1500</Quantity>
       </InventoryItem>
       <InventoryItem>
          <ItemCode>Available</ItemCode>
          <Quantity>1000</Quantity>
       </InventoryItem>
       <InventoryItem>
          <ItemCode>UnRestricted</ItemCode>
          <Quantity>2000</Quantity>
       </InventoryItem>
       <InventoryItem>
          <ItemCode>Available</ItemCode>
          <Quantity>2500</Quantity>
       </InventoryItem>
    </Inventory>
    I am getting the output even though stock is unbounded and I have used collapsecontext and splitbyvalue as:
    <InvStock>
      <Stock>1000</Stock>
    </InvStock>
    I should get:
    <InvStock>
      <Stock>1000</Stock>
      <Stock>2500</Stock>
    </InvStock>
    Thanks
    Gopal
