Using a UI different from WebDynPro for Human activity forms

Hi Forum Dwellers
I am currently investigating the possibility of porting our product to use NetWeaver components. Specifically, we currently use TIBCO iProcess for our workflow/bpm engine. We already have a UI with custom forms that go with the steps (SAP: human activity) in each procedure (SAP: process). We would like to keep our UI with its custom forms and rip iProcess out and replace it with NetWeaver BPM. We interact with iProcess using the Java API that comes with it and hope to do the same with NetWeaver BPM through the UWL.
After playing with Process Composer in CE for a while I've come to the conclusion that it is not possible to specify a different UI to use. Or even to not specify a UI at all. Only WebDynPro appears to be supported. Is this correct?
With iProcess I can build the forms in anything, like VB, or VC++, or Java Swing, or, as we eventually did - in TIBCO General Interface.
I've downloaded and installed SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1 with EHP1 for my investigation.

Hi Martin
Thank you for your reply. I'm starting to think I asked the wrong question, though. The focus needs to be on an API. SAP doesn't need to support another ui for NetWeaver BPM. Instead, there should be a comprehensive API for the NetWeaver BPM engine. That way the question about a different UI becomes irelevant. We need an API through which processes can be started, attributes can be retrieved and updated, tasks can be completed and processes can be moved along to the next activities. We also need to be able to retrieve all the tasks for a group of users, or for a single user. etc. etc. etc. Some of these requirements are already satisfied by the UWL api, but some are not. In addition to that, the UWL may be too general.
An API like this is pivotal. It will determine whether we can port our product to NetWeaver or not. We cannot afford to rewrite the UI.
Oh, one more thing, for goodness sake, NO WEB SERVICES! This should be a server-side or standalone Java API.

  • Need to make a simple dvd from Habitat for Humanity video

    Hi,
    I work for a local habitat for humanity affilate.
    We are having our local fundraiser and I want to use 2 parts off the Habitat for Humanity's international video that they sent us...While I can just use their video I thought it would be nicer if I just had the 2 clips I needed on a separate dvd.
    How do I go about this??
    Thanks, Laura

    I need to take parts of the dvd off-and put them on a fresh dvd.
    I may need a slideshow in the middle somewhere.
    For instance the finished dvd will have 3 chapters, one video, one slideshow
    then one more video.
    so, step 1 is to convert the DVD content into something editable..
    depending on your version of iMovie, you have diff. options.
    esp. for converting just parts, Mpeg Streamclip plus the mp2 playback component (apple.com/quicktime, 20$) is the most recommended tool
    chapters usually mean 'bookmarks' in a movie..
    I would create 3 buttons in iDVD, to jump to each part indiviually ..
    allthough, you can produce a solid movie, with converted part1, slides, part2..
    all that is editing.. iDVD, as said is for encoding disks from movies ..

  • How to set FROM ADDRESS for EMAIL activity in Process Flow

    Hi all,
    Can any one tell how to set(which address) FROM ADDRESS for EMAIL activity in Process Flow?
    Thanks,
    Suvvi

    Did you set what OWB guide says:
    To execute a process flow with an email activity, you may need to access different host machines and ports. New security measures implemented in Oracle Database 11g Release 1 restrict access to hosts and ports. You must explicitly grant access to hosts and ports that the email activity accesses using the DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN package.
    For example, the user OWBSYS needs to send an email through the mail server mail.example.com using port 25. The DBA must perform the following steps:
    1. Create an Access Control List (ACL) for the user OWBSYS using the following command:
    EXECUTE DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.CREATE_ACL
    (’acl_for_owb_cc.xml’,’ACL for Control Center’,’OWBSYS’,’CONNECT’);
    The ACL has no access control effect unless it is assigned to network target.
    2. Assign the Access Control List (ACL) to a network host, and optionally specify a TCP port range. Use the following command:
    EXECUTE DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.ASSIGN_ACL (’acl_for_owb_cc.xml’,’mail.example.com’,25)
    3. Commit the changes made using the COMMIT command.

    We now use Acrobat xi for special active forms we created that include certifications and signature fields, some of the forms are programmed to create other forms, will we have a problem upgrading to DC
    Our users use a form template to create other adobe forms with calculated fields, signature fields (using digital signatures)
    , and buttons. Will we be able to continue developing these forms if we upgrade to Acrobat DC?

    Hi Alex ,
    In general ,you would not have any issues and problems moving to Acrobat DC .It has a different user interface and with more enhanced features .
    You would be able to develop the kind of forms you are referring to .
    You could refer to the following document to get more information about Acrobat DC .

  • Exchange Rate Type default different from M for a company code

    Dear SAP guru,
    Would you shed some light on this?
    How would we be able to default/assign a different exchange rate type from M at a company code level?
    I have a company code - finance company - that every foreign currenty transaction needs to be translated using different exchange rate type (i.e. daily hedge rate) than other operating companies.
    The OB22 screen makes it appear as M rate is specificied as 1st currency in company code, but grayed out and not able to change.
    Please help me with your expertise on this.
    Kind regards
    taro

    Hi,
    ExRateType is hardcoded in
    Main Program     SAPL0F03
    Source code of   L0F03I01
    *------- Daten zur ersten Hauswährung -
      rfcu4-curtp = '10'.
      rfcu4-bwer1 = '0'.                                        "AT 23039
      rfcu4-kurst = 'M'.               <<<<<
      rfcu4-cursr = '1'.
      rfcu4-curdt = '3'.
    The reason why the assignment of exchange rate type M to the first company code currency is a historical reason. A lot of coding within the SAP system is directly developed under the prerequisite that the exchange rate type for the first company code currency is M.
    As you described you want to setup several company codes in one client that all have the same first company code currency but should use different exchange rates. To solve that issue there are 2 ways available:
    The first way is that you use the functionality to assign an exchange rate type to a document type. That would mean a lot of work because in that case you would have to define all document types seperatly for
    every company code.
    The second possible solution is that you use different names for the fist company code currency.
    That means for example that you name the first company code currency in company code 0001 USD and in company code 0002 US1. So you can use different exchange rates for the same currency.because in that examle USD and US1 are only different names for the same currency. Using this approach you can have different exchange rates for different companies with the same company code currency by setting only different names even though the exchange rate type M is fix asigend to the first company code currency.

  • Problem in connecting to database from webdynpro for java

    Hi
    I have a problem in connecting to database from webdynpro application
    I am using oracle 10 express edition as database and was able to connect to database from a java application.But  was unable to connect from a webdynpro for java.
    <b>I guess webdynpro for java uses open sql instead of vendor sql(I looked in the visual admin ,DB is using open sql) so unable to connect to database.Am i right.?</b>
    Do i need to make any settings in the visual admin to make it work?
    How to solve this problem.Please give me pointers
    Thanks
    Bala

    Hi,
    For connecting to Oracle, either you can use the normal JDBC connectivty code directly which is given below :
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@Oracle_server_ip:Oracle port:SID of the Database","user_name","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("your query");
    In case you want to fetch data through ejbs, these are the steps to be followed :
    1) Open the J2EE perspective
    2) Create an EJB Module project
    3) Right click on ejbModule, create a new EJB (select your EJB type)
    4) While creating the ejb itself, you can add business methods by clicking ‘Next’ in the UI. Another option is after creating the ejb, write the method in the bean, then select the method from ejb-jar.xml -> <bean name> ->method. Right click and select ‘propogate to local & remote’.
    5) Double click on ejb-j2ee-engine.xml. select your bean and specify a Jndi name for eg: “MyJndi”.
    6) Right click on the EJB project and add ‘classes12.zip’ file (provided by Oracle) to it’s build path. (under libraries tab). Also check the same file under ‘Order & Export’.
    7) Create an Enterprise Application project.
    8) Right click on the EJB module project and select add to EAR project, then select the created EAR project.
    9) Right click on the EJB project, select ‘Build EJB Archive’
    10) Right click on the EAR project, select ‘Build Application Archive’
    11) Open the WebDynpro perspective, open a new project, right click on the project ->properties. Do the following configurations :-
    • Java Build path - select the EJB project from ‘projects’ , check the selected project under ‘Order & Export’
    • Project references – select the EAR project
    • WebDynpro references – select ‘sharing references’ tab, click add & make an entry as : <vendor>/<EAR project name without .ear extension>
    You can find the vendor name under ‘application-j2ee-engine.xml’ file of the EAR project. By default it is ‘sap.com’. So if my EAR project’s name is ABC, my entry would look like ‘sap.com/ABC’
    12) Now the configurations are over and the EJB can be invoked by writing the client code inside the webdynpro component. Like:
    InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
    Object obj = context.lookup("MyJndi");
    MyEJBHome home = MyEJBHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj,MyEJBHome.class);
    MyEJB mybean = home.create();
    int a = 0;
    a= mybean.add(10,15);
    wdContext.currentContextElement().setSum(a);
    where ‘MyEJB’ is my EJB name and ‘MyJndi’ is my JNDI name
    To connect to Oracle , you can write the usual Java code (given below) as a business methos of the ejb (similar to add() method in the example). And access it like mybean.<businessMethodName>().
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@Oracle_server_ip:Oracle port:SID of the Database","user_name","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("your query");

  • PDF generation from Webdynpro for java application

    Hi all,
    I have a scenario in which a PDF has to be generated from the datils present in a table in the same view, on click of a button. I have found many solutions for generating interactive forms but I need to generate it from the code directly. I have also found an application for generating an excel sheet from the table  data but it is not working with PDF.
    So anybody suggest me how to do it or please refer any applications that have been done.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi marco,
    Sorry for the late reply.
    I have got an application to generate an excel file and i will paste that code here for your reference.
        byte[] excelXMLFile;
        IWDCachedWebResource cachedExcelResource = null;
        String fileName = dataNode.getNodeInfo().getName() + ".xls";
        try {
          // create Excel 2003 XML data as a byte array for the given context node, attributes and headers
          excelXMLFile = this.toExcel(dataNode, columnInfos).getBytes("UTF-8");
          // create a cached Web Dynpro XLS Resource for the given byte array and filename
          cachedExcelResource = this.getCachedWebResource(excelXMLFile, fileName, WDWebResourceType.XLS);
          // Store URL and filename of cached excel resource in context.
          if (cachedExcelResource != null) {
            wdContext.currentContextElement().setExcelFileURL(cachedExcelResource.getURL());
            wdContext.currentContextElement().setExcelFileName(cachedExcelResource.getResourceName());
            // Open popup window with a link to the cached excel file web resource.
            this.openExcelLinkPopup();
          } else {
            wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException("Failed to create Excel file from table!", true);
        } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
          wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException(e.getLocalizedMessage(), true);
        } catch (WDURLException e) {
          wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException(e.getLocalizedMessage(), true);
    In the above code "excelXMLFile" is a byte array in which the data that has to be appended to the pdf (in xml format) is present.
    the toExcel method is used to convert the data in the table(i.e., the data that gets populated in the nodes of the view) in to XML format.
    My Problem is when i change the filename to .pdf extension and the WDWebResourceType.XLS to WDWebResourceType.PDF and execute the application the Acrobat reader is getting opened but it says
    "unsupported file type or the file has been damaged" .
    I mean i am unable to put data into the file.
    So, please help me in this regard.

  • Can I use logical databases in a WebDynpro for ABAP program?

    can I use logical databases in a WebDynpro ABAP program?
    I need to build a WDA screen that is similar to the SAPDBPNP selection screen (user can find the personnel number based on several criteria, such as last_name/first_name of the employee).  So it seems that the exisinting logical databases have already many nice features already built (like the selection screens, the logic behind the screens etc). So I was wondering if/how I can use them in my WDA application.

    Hi
    Please let me also know the solution to this. I am a beginner to WebDynpro  and want to know if I can make use of LDB's as we do in our normal HR programming do develop a WDA in HR.
    Thanks and regards,
    Uma.

  • How can we benefit from WebDynpro for ABAP over Normal ABAP

    Dear Guru's,
    Please guide me what are +Ves of WebDynpro over Normal ABAP. Once all Applications are developed how can we organize them. For Example In SD module there is sequence of Tcodes to be executed this is true for all modules . Is there any concept involved in this new technology.
    For What purpose we can suggest someone to implement in an Organization.
    Many Thanks in Advance.
    Regards
    Ram

    Hi Ram,
    Here Are some comparisions I made w.r.t Webdynpro for ABAP (also some benifits over Java):
    1     "Pros:it will be easier to move your development project through the system landscape if both the UI and business logic are in the same development environment.(Update: This is is less of a concern now that CTS+ lets you bundle your WD Java UI developement with ABAP development objects into a single transport, with SPS13. )
    2     tons of custom ABAP business logic is easier to access via WD for ABAP
    3     WD for ABAP has a code wizard, so easy to build
    4     SAP List Viewer and ALV handled better
    5      The biggest thing is the NWDI. Most of the SAP customer have ABAP stack, but not everyone has the Java stack. To develop WD Java you need to set up the NWDI envrionment, like SLD, CMS, CBS, DTR, etc. which is a huge effort if you don't have them in place. While for WD ABAP, the environemnt is normally there as given for most of customers if they have the right version.
    6     If your business is in SAP system, I would prefer WD ABAP. There are many WD components available in WD ABAP like select-option, Alv table, F4-help which are not available in WD Java. Beside in WD ABAP you can deal the context node in form of internal table which is much more performant than dealing with the contextelement which is the case for WD Java.

  • CE 7.30: Boundary event for human activity

    Hi there,
    one quick question:
    I have a approve/reject WDJ screen linked to a human activity.
    To avoid having too many ExclusiveChoice gateways in my BPM, I tried to use the WDJ error event as boundary event in my BPM.
    This event is fired when the user clicks on the reject button.
    But if you do so, the user gets the following message on the screen:
    Modeled error event triggered by embedded application: Corresponding error handling started for this task
    Is that always the case when I use a boundary event in a human activity?
    If so, that's not nice for the users to see that error message after rejecting a request.
    So the only way to handle rejections in BPM properly is to use Exclusive Choice gateways?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Stefan,
    thanks for answering.
    I've found a simple workaround for that issue:
    In my main process I call a referenced sub-process "Approval step" which includes my human activity together with an exclusive choice gateway "Approved?".
    This gateway has two gates: "Yes" goes to normal end event, "No" goes to an error event.
    If the user rejects, the sub process runs into an error event, which can be handled in my main process as a boundary event.
    The only tricky thing is in my opinion the creation of the service interface/message trigger for that referenced sub-process.
    You have to make sure that the service interface has a fault message, so that the referenced sub-process can have a boundary event.

  • Do we need to buy the license from SAP for EACH 'Z'form

    Hello
    I heard that, we (company) have to take license for the development of EACH adobe interactive form (even though its totally custom brand-new interactive form created from scratch), on individual form basis, is it true? (i know, its free of cost to play around with interactive forms in DEV and QA, but, if we want to move them to PROD, in that case do we need to buy the license from SAP for EACH form individually?)
    Thank you

    Thats true...license based on end user usage is required for SAP interactive forms. For more information read SAP note number 750784. The license comes in package like per 1000 users one time payment.

  • SSO-Logon from mobile device - create logon ticket from WebDynpro for Java

    Hi Experts,
    I'm developing WebDynpro-JAVA application for some warehouse stuff  (runs on a portal system, clients are mobile barcode-scanners with Windows mobile 5.0). JCOs from the portal system to the R/3-backend are confirgured for SSO with Logon-tickets and portal uses LDAP for authentication against a Windows-ADS.
    This works so far ... but my problem is the standard Logon-screen, which is nearly unusable on the mobile device (screen size, layout, etc.). Is there any solution to create logon-tickets directly from the WebDynpro application (using something from com.sap.engine.interfaces.security.auth or similar ?) or any chance to have a special logon screen for mobile devices (parameter sap-wd-client=Pie03Client is ignored for the logon screen).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Since you can't use the call transaction command in web dynpros components, I suggest you to create a report and fill a BDC table on this and use the call transaction in this report.
    So, in your web dynpro component you can use a command SUBMIT to create a job in background.

    Dear Nicholas,
    When portal server is installed, it assigns a specific port for running the portal. Normally the port is 500XX when xx is your instance number. There seems to be some problem in your case.
    Please carry out following steps to see/resolve the issue:
    1. Open the visual administrator
    2. Navigate to  Dispatcher -> Services -> HTTP Provider
    This HTTP Provider specifies the ports used by portal.
    You change the ports to something like : (Port:80,Type:http)(Port:443,Type:ssl)
    Save your settings and now open the browser and open the portal like http://<host>/irj/portal (because 80 is default port). If you specify some other port you need to enter like http://<host>:<port>/irj/portal
    This should resolve your issue:
    Enjoy
    Best Regards,
    Ravi
