Using Class to simplify scripts

Hi,
I have been making a lot of flash projects that require a lot of roll over effects. For example i have 8 images that are black and white and when each is hovered over i would like the colour to return to them. I have being doing this by adding a new event listener for each...
is there a way that i can make all of the images part of the same class so that i only have to write one event listener that will apply the same function to each image on hover?...
Thanks
Fraser

I don't know that classes are the answer to what you seem to want to do, but they certainly couldn't hurt as a way of coding it. Someone more adept in class matters than I can probably answer to that end.
Each object that you want to interact with needs to have a listener assigned, although there are ways of using the event.target property to have a single listener dealing for multpile objects. For instance, if you were to plant the image objects inside a movieclip you could assign a listener to the movieclip and the event target property of that in the event handler function can point to one of your image objects.
// mc is a movieclip holding a few differently named instances of movieclips in this example
mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, processTarget);
function processTarget(evt:MouseEvent):void {
trace(evt.target.name);
You wouldn't have to place the objects inside a movieclip, meaning you could just plavce them on the stage and assign the listener to the stage, but in that case anything else on te stage could also register as a target.
If the aspect of having to assign event listeners in multitudes in the real issue for you, you can make the coding of that more efficient by using loops and sequencially naming the objects, such as mc1, mc2, mc3... mc1000
for(var i:uint=1; i<1001; i++){
this["mc"+String(i)].addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, doSomething);

• How to use classes of packages in flex mx:Script/ or mxml/

Hi.I am just learning Flex using Flex Builder 3 facing one problem,
Suppose I declare one package with name alert.as
package
import mx.controls.Alert;
public class alert
public function alertBtn()
Alert("Hello btn 1");
Now in want to use the function in mxml that I declared in a package.
<mx:Button label="btn1" click="alertBtn();"  />
I have few questions
1)How to Import the class alert.as in <mx:Script> and where should i store the file alert.as in the directory folder of flex?
2)How to call the function alertBtn() when btn1 is clicked.
Thanks so much!

Hi Greg.I think I was not able to clear my problem properly.Let me try this time again.
What I wanted to do was that in the below written code I have the full access of the id=panel1 in the script tag .This works properly.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Script><![CDATA[
import flash.display.Sprite;
import mx.core.UIComponent;
private function addChildToPanel():void {
var circle:Sprite = new Sprite();
circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFFCC00);
circle.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 20);
var c:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
c.addChild(circle);
panel1.addChild(c);
]]></mx:Script>
<mx:Panel id="panel1" height="100" width="100"/>
<mx:Button id="myButton" label="Click Me" click="addChildToPanel();"/>
</mx:Application>
This above functionality when I tried to do using class Outside the code ,its not working !
Here is with the package:-
But suppose I make One package
package
import flash.display.Sprite;
import mx.core.UIComponent;
class getPanel extends Sprite
public function addChildToPanel():void {
var circle:Sprite = new Sprite();
circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFFCC00);
circle.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 20);
var c:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
c.addChild(circle);
panel1.addChild(c);
}//class
}//package
Now in MXML
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Script><![CDATA[
import getPanel;
]]></mx:Script>
<mx:Panel id="panel1" height="100" width="100"/>
<mx:Button id="myButton" label="Click Me" click="getPanel.addChildToPanel();"/>
</mx:Application>
So My problem is that this code doesnt do anything.
Neither the addChild function is working in it ,Nor the Panel1 is accessible here.
Can u pls help me here.
Thanks

• Convert to Transaction Class to Use Market Basket Analysis Script (arules) in the Execute R Script Module

Hello,
I need to do Market Basket Analysis for my data, and have a working R script when using it in R Studio. I need to transfer that R script to Azure ML Studio. I read in another posting that the arules package is pre-installed and that I need
to use the Execute R Script module since there is not other built-in module/function that does anything similar to Market Basket. I went ahead and copy-paste my R script into the module with some slight modifications in terms of importing the data.
I use the R function read.transaction to import and convert my data frame (a csv file) into a transaction class directly from my working directory when using R Studio. It appears that read.transaction does not work on Azure ML, and yet
I need my data to be in transaction class for the rest of the functions in arules to work. Therefore, how do I get around this?
Thank you.

Thanks.
This is my R script:
library(arules)
library(arulesViz)
# Contents of optional Zip port are in ./src/
#source("src/MOD Targeting MBA ML.R");
Data = read.transactions("src/data.csv", format = "single", sep = ",", cols = c(1,2))
itemFrequencyPlot(Data, topN = 37, type = "absolute")
Baskets = apriori(Data, parameter = list(supp = 0.001, conf = 0.8))
inspect(Baskets)
Results = as(Baskets, "data.frame")
maml.mapOutputPort("Results")
And this is the output log:

• Using a UNIX shell script to run a Java program (packaged in a JAR)

Hi,
I have an application (very small) that connects to our database. It needs to run in our UNIX environment so I've been working on a shell script to set the class path and call the JAR file. I'm not making a lot of progress on my own. I've attached the KSH (korn shell script) file code.
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows how to set the class path and / or call the JAR file.
loggedinuser="$(whoami)"
CFG_DIR="`dirname $0`"
EXIT_STATUS=${SUCCESS}
export PATH=/opt/java1.3/bin:$PATH
OLDDIR="`pwd`"
cd $PLCS_ROOT_DIR
java -classpath $
EXIT_STATUS=$?
cd $OLDDIR
echo $EXIT_STATUS
exit $EXIT_STATUS

Hi,
I have an application (very small) that connects to
our database. It needs to run in our UNIX environment
so I've been working on a shell script to set the
class path and call the JAR file.
#!/bin/sh
exec /your/path/to/java -cp your:class:paths:here -MoreJvmOptionsHere your.package.and.YourClass "$@"Store this is a file of any name, e.g. yuckiduck, and then change the persmissions to executechmod a+x yuckiduckThe exec makes sure the shell used to run the script does not hang around until that java program finishes. While this is only a minor thing, it is nevertheless infinite waste, because it does use some resources but the return on that investment is 0.
CFG_DIR="`dirname $0`"You would like to fetch the directory of the installation out of $0. This breaks as soon as someone makes a (soft) link in some other directory to this script and calls it by its soft linked name. Your best bet if you don't know a lot of script programming is to hardcode CFG_DIR.
OLDDIR="`pwd`"
cd $PLCS_ROOT_DIRVery bad technique in UNIX. UNIX supports the notion of a "current directory". If your user calls this program in a certain directory, you should assume that (s)he does this on purpose. Making your application dependent on a start in a certain directory ignores the very helpful concept of 'current directory' and is therefore a bug.
cd $OLDDIRThis has no effect at all because it only affects the next two lines of code and nothing else. These two lines, however, don't depend on the current directory. In particular this (as the cd above) does not change the current directory for the interactive shell your user is working in.
echo $EXIT_STATUS
exit $EXIT_STATUSEchoing the exit status is an interesting idea, but if you don't do this for a very specific purpose, I recommend not to do this for the simple reason that no other UNIX program does it.
Harald.

• Can I use classes in Flash 8? I get errors by doing so.

Hi All,
Whenever I use classes in Flash 8, I get the below error on
compiling. How do I create classes to make my programs more
modular? Can anyone explain me with a simple executable example?

>> Classes may only be defined in external ActionScript
2.0 class scripts.
That's your answer... classes have to be located in external

• How to Create Multiple Sources/Classes with one Script

I am trying to get all of my java sources, or classes, into one script so that I can move them all to another server without having to compile each file individually. When I concatenate two files and try to compile I get an ORA-29536: badly formed source error.
How can I get multiple definitions into one file and compile all of the classes?
Thanks,
Gregory

Gregory:
If you want to upload several Java classes in one script the solution is .sql file, for example:
set define ?
create or replace and compile java source named "my.Sleep" as
package my;
import java.lang.Thread;
public class Sleep {
public static void main(String []args) throws java.lang.InterruptedException {
if (args != null && args.length>0) {
int s = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
Thread.sleep(s*1000);
} else
Thread.sleep(1000);
create or replace and compile java source named "my.App" as
package my;
public class App {
public static void main(String []args) throws java.lang.InterruptedException {
System.out.println(args[0]);
exit
Then the .sql file can be parsed using the SQLPlus, JDeveloper or SQLDeveloper tools.

• Using class files with applets

I've converted a college project, a calculator, into an applet for a website resume. When the html file that loads the applet is opened on a machine with a JVM, the applet works fine. When I tested it on a machine that doesn't have a JVM, the applet wouldn't open.
I'm assuming its because I'm using methods from classes such java.math, java.awt and java.awt.event. I wanted to try to include the neccessary class files into a .jar file that could be included into the archive attribute. Would this work? and also, where can I actually find these files so that I can put them into a jar file. For example, which directories would I look at to find them? I'm on Mac OS 10.3.7.
Even with a search utility,I can't find the specific files with I'm looking for.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi,
It doesn't matter that you have used classes in the packages java.math etc. The application will never run if there isn't a JRE installed for the web browser. I think most people usually puts a script on the html page which detects if a JRE is installed, and directs users to the download page if there is no JRE.

• Problems when using RUNLOGIC Keyword in Script Logic

Hello experts,
I have a problem using RUNLOGIC keyword within Script logic. Both scripts are mentioned below.
Following scenario:
- combination of DESTINATION_APP and LOOKUP to multiply values from two source applications in order to to write results in target application
- data volume in source application VALCHAIN are approx 187.000 records; source app SALES = 500 records
- created data records in target application QUANTITIES are approx 204.000 records
Running LOGIC01_QUANTITIES.LGF without "RUNLOGIC" keyword:
- time to execute logic and write records: 10-12 minutes
- created records 204.000
Running LOGIC01_QUANTITIES.LGF via CALL_RUNLOGIC.LGF
- script does not finish; system produces dumps
- Tcode ST22 shows error messages called "TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED" as well as "SYSTEM_NO_ROLL" as well as "CALL_FUNCTION_SEND_ERROR"

Hello,
This error comes up when there is no enough memory.
How many members do you have in PRODUCT and how many parallel processes did you set up in PARALLELSCRIPT?
Also, I'd suggest to put *XDIM_MEMBERSET PRODUCT = %PRODUCT_SET% in your LOGIC01_QUANTITIES.LGF script.
Did you get anything in RUNLOGIC log? In UJFS you can find logs for every parallel process ran, name if it is just it's time stamp.
Can you see from those what scripts ran and with what parameters?
This should simplify resolution of your issue.

• Invoke an application using mxml or action script

Hi all
I am using flex 2.0 beta 3. And i would like to know if any
method is there to invoke a software using mxml or action script.
I tried with URLLoader and URLRequest to load and open a
file, with a hope that the file will open in the default program
that i configured for that file to open. But i got an error saying
Stream Error.
Can anybody guide me to resolve this issue ..
Rakesh

Here is one possible solution:
You can use the ExternalInterface (
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/langref/flash/external/ExternalInterface.html)
class to communicate with JavaScript. JavaScript can then popup the
media player very easily like this:
http://www.webreference.com/programming/javascript/jf/column5/index.html
The documentation on the ExternalInterface class has a nice
example (in the bottom of the page) on how to communicate with
JavaScript in a browser. Hope this helps,

• Using classes in the library

Hello all ,I just read an action script book ,for an exercise
the book told me to download a library to use it's actions script
files in the library ,I downloaded the library from
http://www.rightactionscript.com/ascb
, I tried to set the library folder in classpath of the flash file
,but the following codes doesn't work:
package {
import ascb.drawing.*;
import flash.display.*;
public class PenClassTest extends MovieClip {
var sampleSprite = new Sprite();
var pen:Pen = new Pen(sampleSprite.graphics);
pen.drawLine(0,0,10,0);
pen.drawLine(15,0,25,0);
pen.drawLine(30,0,40,0);
pen.drawLine(45,0,55,0);
and the errors are :
1120: Access of undefined property pen.
and it means that it can't distinguish the Pen class wich is
resides in ascb/drawing directory :
would you please help me .
Sincerely yours Mohsena

Hello and thank you very much for your attention ,I examined
both of the way you recommended me ( setting ascb in the
actionscript preferences , and either put the ascb folder next to
the movies .fla file ,but the I encounter the following errors:
1120: Access of undefined property pen.
1120: Access of undefined property pen.
5001: The name of package 'ascb.drawing' does not reflect the
location of this file. Please change the package definition's name
inside this file, or move the file. C:\ascb\drawing\Pen.as

• Using classes outside of the default package in OATS 12.3.0.1.0

Hello,
OpenScript - Version: 12.3.0.1 Build 376.
The test fails when I use classes that are not in the default package.
Here is a simple example:
TempClass - in the default package, I can create new objects and use it's methods without any errors.
AlienClass - in another package (which name is anotherPackage) of the same project, I import that package into the script.java but I get an exception while creating new class object:
"An unexpected exception occurred in the script. Script section: Unspecified. Caused by: ClassNotFoundException occured. anotherPackage.AlienClass "
import anotherPackage.*;
public void run() throws Exception {
TempClass tmp = new TempClass(); // no errors while creating
info(tmp.generateMessage()); // this method works correctly
AlienClass al = new AlienClass();
/* here I've got error
*An unexpected exception occurred in the script.
* Script section: Unspecified.
* Caused by: ClassNotFoundException occured. anotherPackage.AlienClass
There are no such problems in OpenScript Version: 12.2.0.1 Build 223.
Could you help me, please?
Best regards,
Natalie

Hi, Sri!
It was not necessary to name the root package "lib" in previous versions of OpenScript (12.2.0.1, 9.X.X).
Except the default package, my work project in 12.2.0.1 included one main user package named by the testing application (let's call it "myApp"). And other packages and classes were located there.
For example:
D:\Development\TestProject\myApp\core\DB.java
D:\Development\TestProject\myApp\test\Test1.java
D:\Development\TestProject\myApp\test\Test2.java
D:\Development\TestProject\myApp\web\common\Authorization.java
etc.
Project with such structure worked in OpenScript 12.2.0.1 but doesn't work in 12.3.0.1.
According to your advice I created a new package - D:\Development\TestProject\lib, moved "myApp" with all included packages and classes into that package and corrected import statements (like lib.myApp.core.* instead of myApp.core.*).
And then no errors appeared! So thank you very much! But it's interesting, why behaviour of OpenScript concerning package's name has changed?
As for example from the first message, import statement was in the same place where OpenScript added others packages during creating a new project. I've just tried to save some space in the message
The full script.java is:
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.basic.api.*;
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.browser.api.*;
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.functionalTest.api.*;
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.utilities.api.*;

import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.utilities.api.xml.*;
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.utilities.api.file.*;
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.webdom.api.*;
import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.adf.api.*;
import anotherPackage.*;
public class script extends IteratingVUserScript {
@ScriptService oracle.oats.scripting.modules.utilities.api.UtilitiesService utilities;
@ScriptService oracle.oats.scripting.modules.browser.api.BrowserService browser;

@ScriptService oracle.oats.scripting.modules.webdom.api.WebDomService web;

public void run() throws Exception {
TempClass tmp = new TempClass(); // no errors
info(tmp.generateMessage()); // this method works correctly
AlienClass al = new AlienClass();
/* here I've got error
*An unexpected exception occurred in the script.
* Script section: Unspecified.
* Caused by: ClassNotFoundException occured. anotherPackage.AlienClass

• Can I use classes and methods for a maintenance view events?

Hello experts,
Instead of perform/form, can I instead use classes and methods, etc for a given maintenance view event, lets say for example I want to use event '01' which is before saving records in the database. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys!

Hi viraylab,
1. The architecture provided by maintenance view
for using EVENTS and our own code inside it -
It is provided using FORM/PERFORM
concept only.
2. At this stage,we cannot use classes.
3. However, inside the FORM routine,
we can write what ever we want.
We can aswell use any abap code, including
classes and methods.
(But this classes and methods won't have any
effect on the EVENT provided by maintenance view)
regards,
amit m.
