Using DDE to create an Excel spreadsheet from forms

I'm able to write text to the sheet, but I've not been able to find a way to automatically set the width of the columns based on my data. It would be a big help if someone could even just point me to the correct manual to read.
Thanks,
Ron

OLE2 Package similar to client_ole2He didn't talk a bout an OLE2-package similar to client_ole2. He talked abouit THE OLE2-package (which in fact is the same which is called "behind the scene" in client_ole)
If your OAS is located on a windows-machine, you can use the standard-OLe"-package from forms. But, for that, all operations are executed on the server. So, if for example you do OLE-operations on excel, excel will be started on the server. WIth that, there will be no choice for a user to "interact" when something goes wrong and there are some Excel-fragment snot correctly closed. So, i would be cautious to use this, especialy if you have a lot of users.

I am using Jakarta's POI to create an excel file from MySql. The POI works well when a samll amount of data was written from MySql (created .xls file less than 3500KB). The problem is when a large amount of data need to be written to an excel file, java.lang.OutOfMemoryError Exception in thread "main" appears. In my project, I really need to have a large amount of data to be wriiten ton excel file. Do somebody has good solution for it?

What about using some text files like csv
(comma-separated value) file? It is plain text but
Excel (and other spreadsheet programs) will be able to
    read it.
But then there will be no formatting and bells and
whistles. It was just an idea.Excel will also read HTML <TABLE>'s, with full formatting. There are some extra tags for numeric formatting, also. Just create an HTML table, and save to a file with .xls extension, e.g.:
    <TABLE>

  • How to create an Excel file from XML in the Receiver File Adapter Comm Ch

How do I create an Excel file from XML in the Receiver File Adapter Communication Channel? I have my mapping done and I am outputting the file as a comma delimited csv file. However, the target can only process an Excel file (.xls). How can I generate an Excel in XI?
I saw this blog, but I don't know how to create a XSLT transformation.
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/12/10/xi-generating-excel-files-without-the-java-nor-the-conversion-agent-not-possible
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are the steps I took to create an XSLT transformation in XI 3.0:
    1. I created my source and target XSDs using XMLSpy.
    2. I created the XSLT mapping from source to target in XMLSpy (referencing the souce XSD schema).
    3. I created another XSLT mapping to format the target into Excel XML.
    4. Import the source and target XSDs in the IR's External Definitions
    5. Zip each XSLT mapping (.xls) and import it into the IR's Imported Archives
    6. Reference the XSL mappings in the Interface Mapping

  • Moving Excel Spreadsheets from Work to Home

I have had this problem for the past month. The problem is when moving Excel
spreadsheets from home to work only (1) out of (6) will not open. It says there is not enough memory. The other spreadsheets are larger so I know the allocation is ok. The work computer is an IMac running system 9.2, the home
computers are a G4 IMac and a G3 IBook. Both of these are running Tiger 10.4.4. These spreadsheets open on both of these Tiger computers.
I use a 128MB USBDrive for moving files back and forth. One thing I have noticed recently is that when opening at work the Icons say PC. I have a newer version of Excel at home, cannot load that version at work because it is not compatible with system 9.2.
    Help????????

    Hi, klugej -
I don't use OSX, so can't suggest a method there. However, in OS 9, try highlighting the icon of the drive (click on it once), then select Erase from the Special menu. With luck, that will offer one of the Mac formats (probably Mac OS Standard) as well as MS-DOS.

  • How do I download a excel spreadsheet from my iPad back to my Mac Pro laptop

how do I download an excel spreadsheet from my iPad back to Mac Pro. the tech at the store showed my how to upload but not down load.

It kind of depends on how it is setup to sync. You can try to reverse his steps.
If you have icloud and use numbers - it will be done by icloud and you don't need to do anything
If he used file sharing in itunes, you need to drag that document backwards.
    You can also email it.
And perhaps there are other ways as well.

  • Running JSP Excel report from Forms 10g

Perhaps this had been discussed before, though I didn't find an exact solution.
We have a JSP report that displays data in MS Excel. Works fine if called from the url.
The report shall be called from the form passing a parameter list with PARAMFORM=NO.
Problem: reports runs as designed but opens up an empty Excel spreadsheet. No errors, no data..
We are using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT with desformat=spreadsheet and paramform=no.
We can't use just web.show_document alone since quite a few parameters need to be passed.
I've read in one of the posts that a paper layout need to be created (in addition to web layout) to run RUN_REPORT_OBJECT. We've done that, but now it does not open EXCEL, and displays paper layout in a browser.
So, how to call JSP (Excel) report from Forms passing parameter list without displaying the parameter form?
    Thank you

What is the complete Application Server version you are using? Be sure you are using 10.1.2.2
What platform and version is it installed?
What version of Excel is installed on the client?
Does it work if you use an RDF report?
    Try this:
    o Change DESFORMAT to DELIMITED
o Append the following to the end of the URL created in the WEB.SHOW call:
    &mimetype=application/vnd.ms-excel
The result should be the same as using SPREADSHEET.

  • Help read excel path from forms 4.5

i have trigger on when-button-pressed which opens excel file whit HOST like
    host('"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\excel.exe" '||cFileName);
My question is: How to read excel path from forms 4.5 whitout any utility or extra pll, because excel.exe is not always on path C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11
    thanks

Storing the path of excel in some kind of file or db-table is not a good solution, for this may change with any version of excel.
Let the operating system decide on its on, just call
    HOST('rundll32.exe url.dll, FileProtocolHandler "' || vcFile || '"');
where vcFile is the file you want to open

  • Is there a way to create auto fill fields in an excel spreadsheet from AB?

Hey, so I've got an Excel spreadsheet that I'd like to tweak so when I enter a name, the boxes next to it labeled Phone Number and Email will auto fill the information in from Address Book. I don't know if this is possible in Excel, I have a Address Label Widget that does it though.

Being Applescriptable, you should be able to do that in Excel. MacTech magazine has a long article on applescripting Office. You might ask around in the Applescript forums or take a look at Macscripter.net.

  • Opening Excel Spreadsheet from ABAP

    Hello,
Is there any way to put data from an ABAP program into an existing Excel spreadsheet? I know how to put the data into a new spreadsheet but my users want to put the data into an existing spreadsheet where they have developed macros.
    Thanks,
    Becky

    Hi Becky
Here is a procedure using OLE automation.
    DATA gs_excel TYPE ole2_object .
    DATA gs_wbooks TYPE ole2_object .
    DATA gs_wbook TYPE ole2_object .
    DATA gs_application TYPE ole2_object .
    CREATE OBJECT gs_excel 'EXCEL.APPLICATION' .
    SET PROPERTY OF gs_excel 'Visible' = 1 .
    GET PROPERTY OF gs_excel 'Workbooks' = gs_wbooks .
    GET PROPERTY OF gs_wbooks 'Application' = gs_application .
    *--Opening the existing document
    CALL METHOD OF gs_wbooks 'Open' = gs_wbook
         EXPORTING #1 = <file_path_var> .
"*--After this point you can go on processing the sheet
    using OLE Automation techniques"
If it is just the template to be stored you can save the template .xls file at the application server each time downloading it to a temporary place to open. Or you can store it at SAP Office templates folder. For SAP Office operations you can inspect "BC_SO_*" masked FMs.
    And as a last thing, let me introduce you the SDN forums pointing system: You can assign points to posts you find helpful while solving your question. You can reward points by clicking the yellow star icon at header of each reply post. You can reward;
    - one 10 points (solved)
    - two 6 points (very helpful answer)
    - many 2 points (helpful answer)
    Kind Regards...

  • Want to open an Excel Spreadsheet from a link.

I am working with financial website and it has a link to a Excel Spreadsheet already design to performa complex calculation.  Spreadsheet is in Excel.  Clicking on the link does not open it and I cannot figure how to get it to open in Numbers - any ideas.

    Hi Laura,
This note, from a cell in the Excel spreadsheet, likely explains the difficulty:
If you are using on older version of Excel, you may need to install an “Add-In.” On the Tools menu at the top of your screen, click Add-Ins. Select the Analysis ToolPak box, and then click OK. If necessary, follow the instructions in the setup program.
The add-ons in Excel's Analysis Toolpak are, to the best of my knowledge, not supported in Numbers.

    Barry

  • Creating an Excel file from table with 40,000 records

I need help with creating an Excel file for client that has a
table of 40,000 records. I have code that generates the Excel and
has worked well in the past but with this much data it is timing

I've already informed the client that Excel has limit of

For so many records my guess is that the concatenation times
    the most
time so you'll need to use StringBuffer to build the string.
    Google for
    coldfusion and stringBuffer:
