Using diskspacemonitor on machines other than osx server

Hi All,
I'm wanting to monitor disk space free on a box I backup to and get emailed a warning if the free % is less than a certain amount.
I have found df and can see it would do the job and would need more help if I was to use this. More about that in another post maybe!
My question for this forum (it may not be the right one) is can the osx server command line app 'diskspacemonitor' be run on the desktop os's? and if so, how?

as you undoubtedly have found, there is no 'diskspacemonitor' in the usual /bin, /sbin, /usr/bin, or /usr/sbin directories, nor is there a "man" page for it, on 10.6.3 client. I guess you'd have to find a copy of it and install it, which may or may not violate apple software licensing agreements.
I'm not sure of the mechanism that you are employing for the file backup, but on the target machine, you could create a launchd job that uses the watchpaths parameter. Just copy one of the com.apple.periodic-*ly.plist files in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons to a nw filename in /Library/LaunchDaemons and use it as a template to edit so that it does what you want. "man launchd.plist" will tell you about the watchpaths parameter - essentially, when a change is sensed in the directory or file specified by that parameter, a script that you specify (conveniently located in a "local" place like /usr/local), that would invoke df, will launch. IF you have enabled Postfix on that box, you could have that script pipe the output of df to the mail or sendmail commands

I have used a tasklist taskflow in my application, but when I deploy this application to any server other than SOA server, it gives an error saying that there is no connection to SOA server. I have tried to make JNDI connections, but this is not working.

You could always store it in a properties file.
java.util.Properties
You could then write your JSP page to load/save the properties file. Hide it under the web-inf directory.
Alternatively you could put them as environment variables in web.xml. But you would have to edit the file manually to change the details. How often would this change? Would it really be that much of a hassle?

Business area will not be supported by SAP in the future
The problem of splitting of account balance is more pertinent in case of tax accounts.
In month end procedures, there are big problem in reconciliation.
Not Efficient in Reporting.
SAP Recommends Profit Center Accounting instead of Business area

Can I do a back up on a machine other than my home pc?

Hey all.
I have a faulty iphone and have an appointment to take it into the apple store this evening, but I forgot to do my backup last night.
Is it possible to do my backup on a machine other than my home pc?
I can do one on my mac here at work, but not really sure if its possible to do a back if its not on the machine with all my apps and music.
Reason being is that if they replace my phone in the store tonight, I would like to be able to reinstall the backup to put my new phone back to the same content thats on my current/old phone (ie. contact numbers, music and app settings and all that stuff)

Yes. But make sure you disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu in windows) BEFORE you do so. Then simply connect your phone, right click in the device pane & select backup. When finished, eject your phone, DO NOT SYNC!
Itunes places the backups here:
* Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
* Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
* Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
You'll want to copy that folder to its proper location on the computer you normally sync with because after you restore from backup, you MUST sync to restore your itunes content.

i found out how to do this finally!
1) set up google gmail account to forward your emails to (from the [email protected])
2) go to your gmail account
3) go to settings (cog in right hand corner)
4) go to 'accounts and import'
5) go to 'send mail as'
6) click 'Add another email address you own' - add your [email protected] address
7) google will send a verification email with code to that email address.
8) enter code
9) go back to gmail account >'send mail as' and select 'make default'
10) close mac 'mail' program and reopen it.
as long as you have gmail account selected as the primary account in MAIL - mail will now come throught as being sent from that [email protected] address!!

Domain Controlling: Windows XP Machine to Mac OSX Server

We have a Mac OSX 10.6 Server and it runs our DNS and we want it to serve as a PDC, We are trying to connect a windows computer to it. When setting the windows computer to the specified domain it prompts for the Username and Password which is correctly entered and accepted, however it loads an error afterwards saying "specified domain does not exist or could not be contacted".
Any idea's? Would this be something to do with an SRV record?
It is the correct username and password as it definately aithenticates - When we type an incorrect password it tells us that it is incorrect. Also, the network firewall is open.

VPN Server solution other than Leopard Server?

Does anyone know of any VPN server solutions for Mac OS X other than the basic one included in Leopard Server?

I use the one that comes with Leopard as well as VPNClient from Cisco. I have to use the Cisco one for one connection which requires we use this client.

Is it possible to configure WLS6.1 to use a directory other than "/config/domain_name/applications"
as its default application directory.

Does anyone know if this was fixed, or is it still a problem. Do we really need
to run our applications from within the bea install/config/domain directory?

Script won't run on machine w/MAC OSX Server 10.4.9

Why won't the following script work on a machine that is running MAC OSX Server 10.4.9. On Machines running Mac OS X 10.4.9 it works fine, but on my server machine it won't name the file as per the script--the menu dialog box pops ("save as") up asking for a file name.??
The only difference between the machines as far as I can tell is the OS.

CalDAV client in iCal connecting to something other than iCal Server

Has anyone attempted to use the CalDav client in Leopard to connect to a CalDav compliant server other than Apple iCal Server? I've tried using a Merak server and it fails while Sunbird connects without a problem. The error I get from iCal is fairly generic...something like "Account information not found"

Kerio MailServer supports CalDAV.

How can I create a line width 0 when using a line style other than solid?

Every time I select a line style other than solid,
the line width gets reset to 0. This makes for a

Shared Variable VI development on machine other than server

I'm about to do my first shared variable code, I read the white paper

Something that isn't immediately clear to me is the expected work flow in actually creating ALL the VIs using the shared variables. I tried creating the project and the variable as per instructions, easy. But I'm going to have one of those VIs running as the server of the data and one as the client. Would these be two seperate project files with the same variable name and type? One project file with seperate builds for server and client executables?
Actually, SV might not even be the best way to do what I need.
I have a PXIe machine with a slot 0 controller that has a mux (a pxi-2503) and dmm (pxi-4072) for getting measurements from multiple channels. Rather than calling via VI server every time I want to grab a measurement I'd rather have an application running waiting on commands. I was thinking of creating a crude command/acknowledge data avail/acknowledge scheme to synchronize the PXI slot 0 with the client that will be requesting the data, but I can imagine there is probably a more suitable framework that someone else has no doubt tackled?
I just need to guarantee that the rack takes the measurement when I want it to (ie, after some other action I've triggered the system to perform) and that the data I get back from it is identifiable.
Ideally, I'd have a MXI controller and this gets really easy but I won't be able to get ahold of one for months if at all so I'm going this route for now.

When I drag a shared variable from the project window into the block diagram and then left click it and go to browse, I'm only presented with variables on my local machine to choose from. If I switch into programmatic access and then go to browse I'm presented with a nice list and am able to browse to the remote shared variables and select it for my constant/control. This works fine and I'll remember to do this from now on, I just wonder why the two different behaviors.
I have this working quite well provided I go ahead and start the VI running either with a built exe or through the vi. As these instruments are going to ultimately be sitting in a headless (no monitor/mouse/keyboard) PXI with slot 0 rack, I am now trying to figure out how to either start these VIs running remotely. I thought I'd just be able to drop the .exe into a windows scheduled task and have it run on start up. This works fine but my client VI doesn't communicate. If I go ahead and log in to the machine I can see the exe running in the Task Manager. If I kill that exe and start a new one then I'm able to communicate with the VI though with some initially odd behavior, almost as if when I was running it on the client the SVE had changed the states of the variables locally and then when the new process was started it latched those states and causes me to have race-like conditions. If I then kill that exe and start another one everything is in its expected "default" state and I don't have race like conditions or get into unexpected states. I can probably add some code on the client side to avoid this weird behavior but I'd rather understand why things aren't working. My guess is the SVE and other NI processes on the headless box aren't starting properly until I actually log in?

How does it work? Does it back up the data every hour, or is is possible to do it more often?

Time Machine is variously incompatible with the creation of backups of the Mac OS X Server box itself; while the basic TM configuration might (does?) work, but the advanced configuration won't work. Well, you'll probably get copies of what was once an "advanced" configuration, but whether you can restore and resume use of those can be problematic at best.
You need take explicit steps to gain consistent and restorable archives of various Mac OS X Server configurations.
Have a look around the forums for existing discussions of (for instance) shutting off dovecot to get a snapshot of the mail store.

Satellite A210 - How to use muldimedia buttons with other than Media Player

is it really not possible to use the Multimedia Buttons (Play, Pause, FF) on the top of my notebook for another application than the Windows Media Player?
Is there any reason for this? I would like to control Winamp with this buttons.
It seems quite sensless to restrict the acces to ONE application of HUNDREDS available, an then this one is the Media Player which is not used by the most people.
I have the Satellite A210 Notbook.
Can you tell my how to control my winamp with this buttons?

Unfortunately there is no solution at the moment. If you check this forum you can find several very interesting threads about multimedia buttons and Winamp player. The fact is that some people have found solution for older notebook models running WXP. Winamp has offered plugin that must be installed.
Now we have new situation. Your notebook runs newest Vista OS and I didnt find any plugin that can help. Problem is that your notebook is designed for Windows Vista and preinstalled OS contains all necessary plugins for running Windows media player as a part of preinstalled operating system.
It is no kind of restriction. With preinstalled OS you can do what you want and if you can find a way to change it do this. You know very well that there are hundreds of different players on the market. You cannot expect that Toshiba take a time and create a plugins for all of them and satisfy the customers all over the world.
