Using flash inside Spry

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with spry. I´m using "updateContent" of
Spry to load the contents of my site. However, it seams that it
doesn´t works well with Flash.
If I put the flash movie on the html, the dreamweaver puts a
script "AC_RunActiveContent.js" to see the flash movie, however
this doesn´t show the flash becouse the Spry.
If I take the script off the html, the Spry loads the flash
movie and shows it, however it doesn´t show the "loading" of
flash movie. It shows a blank screen until the movie loads
entirely.
Someone has an idea of what is happening and what should I do
to show the "loading" of flash movie? When I see the movie from a
simple html page, it shows the "loading", but if I use
"updateContent" of Spry to load a content with flash movie, it the
movie doesn´t show the "loading" of flash.
Please, I need help!
Thank you,
Luciano Popó

Hi Diana,
do you know what the parameters that "updateContent" accepts?
I didn´t find good documentations about Spry. In the Adobe
site, there are only few examples but doesn´t explain all the
aspects of the Spry. I also looked for this in search sites, but
there are only basics examples and texts explaining how to use it.
Maybe you´ve already observed that everyone that uses
the Spry are looking for better documentations. I understand that
the guys from Adobe are developing and writing the documentation at
the same time, but we all need better documentations and tutorials
to learn the Spry framework. I think this is the best feature in
the Dreamweaver CS3.
If you know someone at Adobe, please tell them to pay more
atention about this.
I will try to insert the AC_FL_RunContent function as a
parameter inside "updateContent". If it works, I will tell here.
Thank you for your help,

  • Interaction using Flash an Spry possible?

    Hello,
I am just curious, if there is a possibility to use Spry from a flash movie. For example, I like to have the Spry datagrid on a website using a typical master and detail area like this:
      <div class="MasterDetail">
        <div spry:region="dsccare2" class="MasterContainer">
          <div class="MasterColumn" spry:repeat="dsccare2" spry:setrow="dsccare2" spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected">{name}</div>    </div>
        <div spry:detailregion="dsccare2" class="DetailContainer">
          <div class="DetailColumn">{links}</div>
          <div class="DetailColumn">{navcontent}</div>
        </div>
        <br style="clear:both" />
Is there a way to use a Flash swf on the page that interacts with spry. I know, that you can call JavaScript commands from Actionscript, but is there a special way to use Spry tags or attributes from Flash? What is the code I need for Flash to include in the Actionscript of button for example to change the {navcontent}?
I think you thought of something like that doing Spry ;)
    Thanks Michael

  • Using Flash Components in multiple SWCs inside AS-only project

Ok, this is a somewhat complicated issue dealing with SWCs and compilers. I've outlined steps to reproduce the problem below. I'm using the method outlined here to bring in Flash content to my project. I have 15-20 SWCs already, and it's working fine for those assets, the problem is specifically related to Flash's components (ComboBox, RadioButton etc.) If anyone has *any* advice on this, please let me know as we are completely stumped at this point!
The issue we're having involves using multiple external SWC files which contain AS3 components from Flash CS4. When two SWCs are linked to an ActionScript project (using Flash Builder 4 Beta (build 4.0.0)) there are collisions in the referenced classes which cause the most recently published SWC to knock out any duplicate classes in the other SWCs. A simple way to replicate this is as follows:
    1. Create one FLA, called 'compA', drag one ComboBox, RadioButton and TextInput component onto the stage. Select all and convert to symbol, marking the symbol for export with a class name of Test1.
    2. Create a second FLA, called 'compB', drag one ComboBox, Label and UIScrollbar onto the stage. Convert these to a symbol with a classname of 'Test2'.
    3. Create a new ActionScript-only project in Flash Builder, called 'ComponentTest'.
    4. Create a 'libs' folder in this new project. Select 'Project -> Properties -> ActionScript Build Path' and add the libs folder as a new SWC folder in the Library Path window.
    5. Go back to compA.fla and right click the Test1 symbol in the library. Select 'Export SWC file...' and save it as compA.swc in the libs folder.
    6. Do the same thing for compB.fla.
    7. Edit ComponentTest.as and in the constructor, create an instance of Test1 and Test2, placing each on the stage.
    8. Run the app, and the ComboBox will only be functional in one instance (whichever was published last.) The other ComboBox will behave like a MovieClip, cycling over the two frames in the stage asset (avatar and skin.) It will have no association to anything in the fl.* package.
Looking at the 'Referenced Libraries' in Flash Builder, compA may show it contains classes for the RadioButton and TextInput, but no ComboBox classes are referenced (sometimes it will show no classes at all, but this appears to be an unrelated bug with refreshing external libraries in Flash Builder.)
Unzipping the SWC files and examining their catalog.xml manifests shows all the necessary classes are listed (i.e. ComboBox is in both.)
Removing either SWC will cause the remaining one to work properly, so the problem appears to be in compiling the ComponentTest project which includes both.
    Attempted Workarounds:
    1. Create a new FLA, drag all components used in both files onto the stage and export a SWC called 'components.swc'. Add this SWC to the project's libs folder. In both compA and compB FLA files, add this SWC as an external library in the ActionScript 3.0 Publish settings. Re-export both SWCs. The theory is that the compiler will look for the required classes in the components.swc first, and thus not include them in the export, however this is not the case.
    2. Same as above, deleting ComponentShim from both FLAs before exporting. The result is that no component classes are included, so all components act like MovieClips.
    3. Add the Components source folder to the external library path of both FLAs, assuming the compiler will favor classpath references over compiled class references (ComponentShim). Same result.
Summary: We have been unable to find a way to use Flash Components in a project if they are referenced in more than one asset library. If we were able to import them once, and have all SWCs which need those classes use a single source, this might not be an issue, but the compiler does not appear to handle this (and we are admittedly not advanced enough to even know if this is possible.)

    Hi!

  • Need help using flash buttons

Can anyone help me with flash buttons? I am trying to build
my first website, and my five flash buttons (inside a 5 col. table)
for page navigation work fine in testing all 5 web pages with
mozilla firefox, and they look the same on the index page when
testing with IE-7. However when I begin navigating to other pages
in IE-7, the flash buttons disappear, and the 5 cols in the table
where each flash button was placed now are not equal sizes anymore
like they are on the index page. In my files area on the right, I
notice 3 out of the five buttons I created have about 15 to 20
"generations" shown there, with numbers 1 through 15 or even more
to qualify them tacked on to the end of the names. Where do these
come from, and why are 2 out of the five only have 1 "generation"
each? I never expected this, and I think it has something to do
with the problem, but maybe not. Please help me if you can!

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
Your problem is caused by navigating away from the previewed
    page. In
general, this is not a good thing to do, since root relative
    links will not
work as expected when you do that (locally).

Thanks Janaki but how can I add a new application? I tried to do it using Flash Media Administration Console but it doesn't work
    Hi Salma,
To add an application to FMS follow the below steps
    1. Create a folder "my_app" under "$InstallRoot\applications" directory.
    2. For simple server side code... add "main.asc" file inside "$InstallRoot\applications\my_app" directory which has the content like
    application.onConnect = function(clientObj){
         trace('onConnect function");
         return true;
    3. To add streams to the application, creates 'streams' folder inside "$InstallRoot\applications\my_app" directory, within that create '_definst_' folder and then place your FMS supported streams within the directory. So your streams for the 'my_app' application will be at "$InstallRoot\applications\my_app\streams\_definst_\mystream.flv".
You can connect to this application using the url "rtmp://your_server_name/my_app". To play the stream mystream.flv using video player, use the url "rtmp://your_server_name/my_app/mystream.flv".

  • Graphics using graphic API are drawn below the loaded content created using Flash authoring tool

    Here is my problem.
I am developing a Analog Dial component. Here , I am
extending UIComponent and loading a swf file generated using Flash
CS3 authoring tool ( the swf basically has the circle and needle)
and adding the loaded content as child of Dial class.
Next I use Graphics API to draw the major and minor ticks on
    the dial.
As mentioned in the curveTo method of flash.display.Graphics
    class documentation (
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/langref/index.html),
if you are using graphics api and also loading content created
using the flash authoring environment the vector graphics will be
    drawn underneath the loaded content.
Well , Is there any way to make the graphics appear on top of
    the loaded contents?

It appears that this may be accomplished more easily if I do something similar to the StrobeMediaPlayback implementation. Looking at the StrobeMediaPlayback source code it looks like Adobe has done something a little different than their ControlBarPlugin, placing the controlbar and root media element inside separate MediaContainers and then adding those containers to the display list. Is this recommended over using the frameworks ParallelElements? If so, is communication between the control bar and root media element still a matter of just updating the target reference via metadata?

  • How to create an ad banner using Flash Catalyst

This should be an easy question to answer...I've been able to create a variety of ad banners using Flash Catalyst but none of the online tutorials show how to link the ad banner to a URL...i.e. when someone clicks on the banner.  I don't like the idea of having to create a button + Go To URL (on click) because the button doesn't appear on all screens/states, etc.
Is there a way to turn the entire project into a button without losing the animation action?  i.e. so that no matter what state the banner is in, if someone clicks on it, they go to the URL?

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for your advice.  It's for our own sites, so we can accept the overhead.
The animation is simply fade in image, fade out image, fade in text message, fade out text message, fade in next image, etc.
So, when you say "they are instead wrapped inside a single custom component", I understand it conceptually but need a few details:
    1.  Does this mean I first create the custom component (before doing anything else)?
    2.  At what point to I import/load my Photoshop file with all of the layers?

  • Using Webkit inside of AIR to load in PHP

    Hello,
We have a game that we are developing for tablets that we are porting over from a browser based Flash game. In that game, there is a link to a PHP script that loads in player information and displays it on a web page. We would like to be able to reuse this functionality without having to rebuild it all in Flash for AIR. I know that AIR has Webkit support built in but I'm having a hell of a time finding out if it can display a web page from inside the application, rendered with PHP. Also I'm having trouble finding any information on how to actually use Webkit inside of AIR, other than an old mx:HTML component. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

While it is possible to serve local html files to an instance of a StageWebView, it is not running as a server. Thus, your PHP code will NOT execute. You can display the html that lives on your server, since you are haing the user sign, some form of network access is need. You could look at using the SQLite DB to save the user information, so you could enable offline playability, then sync the data once there is a connection.
Here is something I wrote on using SWV and Google Maps. Maybe you can find it useful: http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2011/01/04/integrating-maps-into-your-mobile-applicatio n/
    Good luck,

do i use the MySoundClass inside of the SongPlayer class... when I
try to import it says I cannot use the import statement inside of a
class file. I know in AS3 you can use the package keyword to create
packages and do that... but as far as I can see there is no package
keyword in AS2... because I tried, and it just tells me htere is a
syntax error on the line with the package declaration... can you
use one custom class inside another? and if so... how?
P.S. just to be sure... i am using flash CS3 and writing AS2
    files. Thanks!

ack!!! thank you...I actually tried that and it didn't
work... but when I went back after you said it and tried it again,
it did work... so I guess I just had a misspelling or something

Ouch! That may be problematic. Where di you get the
    pre-built
    template?
    > Does anyone know how to get the buttons on the
    > template to link to files? Thanks!
The global getURL() function links to files (see details in
    the
ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference) -- but honestly, since
    the specifics of
your template are completely unknown to us, you may find a
    hard time getting
answers until you provide more information.
In general -- this is my opinion here, but I'll try to back
    it up -- 3rd
party templates are not a good way to learn Flash. The reason
    for this is
because template repositories, such as TemplateMonster.com,
    farm out their
template designs. There are no centralized standards of
    quality in such
templates: 10 to 1, you will not see consistent, clean FLAs
    -- on the
inside, I mean. Designers from all over the world throw
    together as many
templates as they possibly can (to make as much money as they
    possibly can,
of course), with no real quality assurance, because none of
    them work under
    the same roof.
I've seen countless posts to this forum along the lines of,
    "Hey, I just
bought this template, but I can't make sense of it!" And
    that's because the
FLA's layers won't be named, layer folders won't be used,
    Library assets
won't be named (or will be named poorly), and very little (if
    anything) will
be explained in regard to *how* the designer put together
    whatever's there.
That said, I certainly don't mean to frighten you into
    thinking
templates are a bad thing. Good and bad, in this context, are
    somewhat
subjective. But I encourage you to look elsewhere for
    *learning* Flash.
There are plenty of online tutorials and resources, and in
    fact, the
included documentation in Flash (F1 key) is a great place to
    get your
    bearings.

  • Using Flash/AS as Template possible?

    Hello Everyone!
I'm very new to flash (just started last week) so please bare with me if this quesion sounds ridiculusly stupid
I wonder if it's possible to use Flash/AS files as "templates" - in other words, we have the website http://shop.variuscard.com and the header is subject to change depending on the product-category you click in the shop. We will have approx 10 categories, and each will have a different product displayed in the flash movie, but the "background actions" should stay the same.
Now, in case I need to change something (let's say the logo changes from blue to red.. and the particle-size and shape) I don't want to change all 10 or more files again. So is there a way to use the "basic" flash file as template, which means - position of the Logo & shadow, and the particle code, and just change the variable pictures and stuff inside the categories? I took that red card-printer as sample of the card-printer category for example.
    Thanks in advance!

There are a few ways you can manage having a template file.  Probably the more modern approach is to have data file that defines certain characterstics of the file's content, such as the logo image it uses, the title it displays, where things get placed, etc.  Then you have your Flash file dynamically load/adjust the content per what the data file dictates.  So you data file could specify the name of the logo image file and where it gets planted and the file could use that info to load that file and place it where it goes.
Another thing you can make use of is the FlashVars parameter that the embedding code allows for.  So if you had the same banner in the same web site on different pages or sections of a page, you could use the FlashVars to indicate some parameter each file should use to decide what content it needs to make use of.
Combining these approaches can alow you to only have one Flash file, and one data file that you change as needed.

Glad you got it all working! Good job!
Just a note (for yourself and anyone else using Flash) on the rumor that all Flash files must be in the root folder... simply not true. In my opinion, as with any other type of files on your site, I'd suggest putting them in organized folders.... all the images in one folder... then subfolder for diff categories of images, flv video files in another folder, maybe keep all the .swf files in another, the xml data files in another, etc. Flash asset files can be just as organized as any other type of files.
From an old article.... for review:
    Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.
