Using forms6i and reading data from MS SQL server 7

Hi!
I have been given a new task to connect to Microsoft SQL SERVER 7 with Oracle 6/6i development with ODBC and extract specific data.
I am realy stuck with this I hope some one will help me with this as soon as possible.
thanka

I did a similar thing with developer 2000 (Form 4.5) and SQL server6.5.
There are lots of things involved and there will be issues that need to be resolved in you application but you can take one thing at a time and you should be able to do it.
-First make sure that your SQL server is up and running.
-Then make a client machine that connects to SQL server.
-On the client install your Form6 or 6i.
-Install ODBC manager on your Client Machine.
-Get the Oracle ODBC driver for SQL server.
-There is a document available with developer 2000 for open data source. It should be with your Form6/6i documentation. It has got a section for connection with SQL server.
Start with this and where ever you get stuck ask away question on the forum.
Hope this help

  • Use evdre to query data from a SQL View

    Hi all
    I believe that it is possible to use evdre to query data from a SQL View. If this is possible then how does one go about setting it up in the evdre options (assuming that the view has already been created)?
    Regards,
    Byron

    Byron,  perhaps this is no longer supported, it might be worth opening up a case at service.sap.com on this.  However, I did find the following on Page 11 of the "Usages and Considerations of EVDRE" pdf file.  This doc is imbedded in the helpfile for BPC 7 SP5 (which was released in August of 2009, well after note 1315011 was last updated.
    It looks like you are limited to one custom view per application, since you have to name the view in a parameter at the APPLICATION level.  Go into BPC Administration, login to the application related to the custom view, choose "Set Application Parameters" and enter the name of the view to the Application Parameter called "EVDRE_QUERYVIEWNAME"  If it is not listed, go ahead and create it at the bottom of the Application parameter screen.
    Also:  I interpreted the following info from Page 10 of the same doc:
    In your EVDRE, set the following options:
    QueryEngine: MANUAL
    QueryType:  enter either NEXJ  OR TUPLE  see below:
    NEXJ  - Use two-dimensional queries using the nonemptycrossjoin function
    TUPLE  - Use two-dimensional queries using tuples"
    And I'm assuming you'd enter a Y for the following two parameters:
    QueryViewName
    "..to enforce the query engine to use a used-defined SQL view of the fact tables, when trying to read the values using SQL queries. This option is typically used in conjunction with the SQLOnly option (see below). "
    Option SQLOnly
    "..to enforce the query engine to only execute SQL queries, when reading data. This can be achieved using this option."

    You can find lot of information about Datasets in SCN just SEARCH once.

  • Best way to control and read data from multiple instruments?

    Hello,
    I'm building an application to test power supplies involving multiple pieces of equipment over a couple of different comm busses. The application will also send control instructions to some of the instruments, and read data from some of the instruments. The reading and control profiles will not run on the same schedule (variable length control steps, configurable read interval).
    I was thinking of using a queued statemachine (producer/consumer) for the control profile and another to read the data, but I got concerned that there would be collisions between sending control commands and read commands to the same machine. Is there a suggested design pattern for implementing something like this?
    Timing of the commands isn't critical down to the milisecond, but I need to collect reasonably accurate timestamps when the data is read. The same is true for the control commands.
    Here are the instruments I'm going to use, if the are control, read, or both, and the communication method
    Instrument Funtions Comm Method
    Power Supply Read data Communicates to PMBus Adapter
    PMBus to USB Adapter Read data USB (Non-Visa)
    Switch control relays USB (VISA)
    Power Dist. Unit read data/control outlets SNMP (Ethernet)
    Electronic Load read data/control load GPIB (VISA)
    Thermal Chamber read data/control temp Ethernet (VISA)
    Thanks,

    Hello, there is a template in LV called "Continuous measurement and Logging".
    It can give you some idea how to properly decouple the "GUI Event handler" top loop (where your Event structure is) from the DAQ and other loops.
    You do not need to totally replicate the above example, but you can find there nice tricks which can help you at certain points.
    The second loop from the top is the "UI message loop". It handles the commands coming from the top loop, and regarding to the local state machine and other possible conditions and states, it can command the other loops below.
    During normal run, the different instrument loops just do the data reading, but if you send a control command from the top loop to a certain instrument loop (use a separate Queue for every instrument loops), that loop will Dequeue the control command, execute it, and goes back to data reading mode (in data reading mode the loop Dequeu itself with a "data read" command automatically). In this way the control and data read modes happen in serial not in parallel which you want to avoid (but I think some instrument drivers can even handle parallel access, it will not happen in really parallel...).
    In every instrument loop when you read a value, attach a TimeStamp to it, and send this timestamp/value couple to the DataLogging loop via a Queue. You can use a cluster including 3 items: Source(instrument)/timestamp/value. All the instrument loops can use the same "Data logging" Queue. In the Datalogging while loop, after Dequeue-ing, you can Unbundle the cluster and save the timestamp and data-value into the required channel (different channel for every instrument) of a TDMS file.
    (Important: NEVER use 2 Event structures in the same top level "main" VI!)

    Hello National Instruments,
    I would like to use DDE to send data from a Lookout Server to an Excel
    Spreadsheet.
    I have Lookout 6.1 on a server connected to 4 client workstations
    The operating system on the server is Windows Server 2003 R2; Standard Edition;
    Service Pack 2
    I have opened DDE Share but after filing in Share Name; Static Application
    Name; Static Topic Name
    I get a message, "Can't bind to DSDM service"
    I also get this message when I press add a Share
    What are the steps to setting up this type of communications link?

    Ryan,
    I have followed the steps on the Knowledge Base "How do I use DDE To Send Data Across the Network To Excel From Lookout?" but what I am seeing is that the computer with excel (Computer B)hangs up displaying an hour glass continuously leaving me no option but to go into task manager to stop excel.  It appears to me that the dde share is not working properly on my windows xp where lookout resides or I do not have a certain service turned on.  I do have the DDE services turned on both computers.  I have my computer set up as computer A with Lookout and Process1 as the process with a pot set up as pot1.  On my computer (Computer A) I also have the dde share set up per the KB example.
    On computer B I have the dde services turned on and I am typing the following into an excel worksheet Cell  ='\\TAG23232\NDDE$'|'Process1$'!Pot1
    TAG 23232 is Computer A's Name
    Do you have any suggestions???

  • TRANSFER DATA FROM MS-SQL SERVER TO ORACLE

    hello everybody
    can anyone tell me how 2 transfer or convert data from ms-sql server to oracle
    is there any utility
    if yes let me know .
    thanks in advance

    There are various options depending on how much data we're talking about, where you want the program logic, whether it's a one-time migration, etc.
    Among the options
    - Use SQL Server's DTS
    - BCP the data from SQL Server into flat files and use SQL*Loader to load it
    - Create a database link using Heterogeneous Services and Generic Connectivity to extract data from SQL Server
    - Use the Oracle Migration Workbench, which is now integrated into SQL Developer
    - Use an ETL tool like Oracle Warehouse Builder

  • Export data from MS sql server table to an oracle table

    I need to move data from a sql server table to an oracle table and when ever the sql server table is updated it needs to automatically update the oracle table. Is there procedure to do this or do I migrate the data once and set up a trigger on the sql server table to update the oracle table? If the trigger is the answer how do I do that?

    You might want to check out Oracle's heterogeneous services functionality if you haven't done so already. Here are a few links:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/toc.htm
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/majfeat.htm#sthref74
    Also, consulting the Oracle streams manual may be helpful -- particularly Chapter 5.

    Perhaps someone who is more familiar with SQL Server could provide a more helpful answer.

  • Reading data from Sybase SQL Anywhere 7 database to write into a SQL Server database

    Hi,
    I need to import data from a Sybase SQL Anywhere vers. 7 database. This RDBMS was used more 10-12 years ago. I want to write Sybase data into a SQL Server 2008 R2-2012 database. For testing purposes I'm using SQL Server 2005.
    After that I've installed Sybase SQL Anywhere vers. 7 I can use the Adaptive Anywhere 7.0 ODBC. I'd like to use SSIS to import Sybase data, but I cannot create an OLE DB connection in a right manner while I can create and ODBC connection manager and so I
    can use an Execute SQL task (and not a data flow task, unfortunately!).
    Well, after using this Execute SQL task to read fe a table with thousands of data rows how can I write the entire data collection on a SQL Server table?
    Thanks

  • How to read and store data from an SQL resultset

    I'm writing a program to create testing scripts. I have a working version of the program that takes data from a specific input file, processes it and then outputs it as a test file that is readable by this other system. That's all fine and dandy, but now I wish to extend my program so that it doesn't need the input file, it shoud run an SQL query on the database itself and output this, with some other data to the output file, I have been experimenting with some code below:
              ResultSet rset;
              rset = sql.sqlweight();
              while (rset.next()!= false)
                   System.out.println("I'm getting to this loop");
                   scanCode = rset.getString(1);
                   System.out.println(scanCode);
                   rset.next();
              }And method sqlweight looks like this:
         public static ResultSet sqlweight() throws SQLException
              Connection connectiona = DriverManager.getConnection(//hiding connection details);
              Statement stmtW = connectiona.createStatement();
              String sqlW = "Select distinct (selc_code) from selling_code, prod_orgu_link where selling_code.prod_id = prod_orgu_link.prod_id and prod_orgu_link.prou_prod_handling = 20";
              ResultSet rset = stmtW.executeQuery(sqlW);
              while (rset.next())
                   //System.out.println(rset.getString(1));
              //rset.close();
              //stmtW.close();
              //connectiona.close();
              return rset;
         }Code is a bit messy at the moment as I am constantly changing and adding things so excuse the formatting. I can't get it to enter the loop (hence the testing line I put in it). I am wondering what the best way would be to get the data held in the results set into my String variable scanCode. Thanks for any help or advice.

    I haven't thrown it away, it just looks like this now:
         public static ResultSet sqlweight() throws SQLException
              Connection connectiona = DriverManager.getConnection(//hiding connection details);
              Statement stmtW = connectiona.createStatement();
              String sqlW = "Select distinct (selc_code) from selling_code, prod_orgu_link where selling_code.prod_id = prod_orgu_link.prod_id and prod_orgu_link.prou_prod_handling = 20";
              ResultSet rset = stmtW.executeQuery(sqlW);
              return rset;
         }

    dbo.MyCLR2('c:\fILES\MLSM.xml'),
    'SELECT * FROM [dbo].[Customer]') Input

    After I click 'Finish' in "Table Import Wizard", I can only get 1 column (FieldCount) in Power Pivot window. Why don't I get the other 4 columns? If I save the result to a table I do get all columns but my goal is to dynamically present the result
    so that's not an option. Can anyone shed some light?

  • Use LV to read data from a file that is already open in another program.

    My operators use an office application where they pull up PDF and Word data sheets for various components that we test.
    The URL looks like this:

    I have no idea how to get to this from LV.
    What I need: when an operator selects a document (PDF or Word) from this list I want LV to know what document was selected and have LV read the data from it.

    I mistyped. It's not an office application but a Windows application that stores documents on our company intranet. The user clicks on a hyperlink of a document that can be either in Word or PDF format and it opens the document. I want LV to "see" this somehow so I can get the text data from the document. I realize this is more Microsoft/.net/magic than LV but was just wondering if anyone else has done something like this.
