Using iPod & iPod Shuffle on Same Computer

I have had my IPod for over a year and recently received an IPod Shuffle. I would like to use both on the computer that I currently have iTunes installed on, but can't figure it out:(
When I attempt to install the software for iTunes, it brings up all my information from my Ipod...Help!!!
1. Do I even need to install iTunes again? To me it looks like the same disk that came w/my iPod a year ago.
2. If I do need to install the disk, do I enter my iPod Shuffle's information in there? Therefore, removing my iPod information?
3. Will I lose any of my music that is already loaded in my Libary on iTunes?
Sorry for asking the basic 101 of apple but I couldn't find anything about this on the website or discussions.

Nikki,
Welcome to the discussions. All you need is the most recent version of the iPod updater. You don't need to reinstall iTunes.

  • 2 Ipod's on the same  Computer ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to have 2 ipod's on the same computer? I want to have a different library for each one.

I received the following info from Apple Support because we have a mini and the new 5th generation that we sync to our Mac. Hope this helps.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer Do you want to use more than one iPod with the same computer? You can! In fact there are a couple of different ways you can do it.
    Method One
If you share your computer with other people, the simplest way is to maintain separate user accounts on the computer for each person and his or her iPod. This is useful if everyone has different musical tastes; each person gets to maintain his or her own personalized iTunes music library, and can customize the iPod with his or her music.
    Mac OS X users:
See " Mac OS X: How to Share a Computer with Other Users" to learn how to set up additional user accounts.
    Windows users:
Look in your computer's Help documentation to learn how to set up additional user accounts. To locate this information, do the following:
    1. Click the Start Menu, and then point to Help or Help and Support.
    2. Enter new user in the Search field.
    3. Press Return.
If you create multiple user accounts on one computer but want the same music to be available in iTunes for all users, see "iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer ."
    Method Two
If one person wants to use multiple iPods on a computer, or you don't want to create multiple user accounts to support multiple iPods, you can set iTunes to update each iPod with only certain playlists. This way, you can put all your music on, say, your iPod photo and keep just your workout music on your iPod mini. Here's how to do this:
    1. First, create a new iTunes playlist for each iPod that contains all the music that you want to send to that particular iPod. Learn more about how to create playlists here .
    2. Then configure the iPod Options in iTunes so that each iPod gets updated with only your selected playlists. Learn more about how to send certain playlists to different iPods here .

    - Disable autosyncing: go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says "Prevent iPods ...syncing">
    - Connect the iPod and go to the music, apps and other panes for the iPod and check the boxes that say only sync the checked items.

  • Can you use two iPod's on the same computer?

I currently have an iPod Video, and my mother wants to get a shuffle or nano. The problem is, we only have one computer that will let iTunes run. Is it possible to use two iPods on the same computer, or even with the same iTunes?

If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • IPod Nano - Shuffle plays same songs over and over

I have several playlists on my iPod Nano with varying numbers of songs.  But it seems that every time I use my iPod, no matter which playlist I'm using, I get some songs over and over.  I'll hear the same couple songs multiple times in a day/week.   I turn it off when we aren't using it.  So it seems like it's resetting the shuffle every time I turn it on.  Is there some setting I need to change to make it shuffle the songs more?  I don't remember having this problem with my iPod Shuffle.   I'm considering making multiple playlists (like a several workout ones with different songs in each so I get more variety) but wondering if there's a simpler fix
    Thanks

That is probably the Repeat setting.  It can be set to repeat ONE (repeats current song), ALL (repeats current list), or OFF (does not repeat).
Which iPod nano model do you have?  Does it have a touch screen interface, or the (older) click wheel interface?

  • Multiple Ipod nano's on same computer with different libraries

I have tried to create two libraries on the same computer for my Nano and my wife's. We have very different music tastes. The Itunes program will not let me choose a library. It goes into the last one created. I have tried starting Itunes with the "shift" key but it will not let me choose a ilbrary. Any ideas??

You might find it much easier to simply create a new user account on the computer for your wife. By default, she will get a brand new library she can call her own and sync her iPod to it. Now, not only will she have her very own library she can do with what she pleases, she can also customize the desktop, have different desktop icons, etc. to her own liking.

  • How do you sync two ipod touches to the same computer?

Whenever I plug in my ipod touch to my computer, it still shows my husbands library and I can't sync. Even if I log into the iTunes store, it still shows all his library. What do i have to do to use two iPods on the same pc?

Create a new library, either by launching iTunes with the Shift key held down or by creating a new Windows user account.

  • How do I set up my second Ipod and itunes library (same computer)?

I recently filled up my first Ipod, and want to load my second Ipod's software on the same computer without causing interference and problems with my first ipod and library. How do I load my second ipod's software and create a library just for it, without the libraries becoming confused, or not recognizing ipods, or double copying songs?
    Thanks in advance,

  • How do I sync a second iPod touch to the same computer?

I just bought a 2nd gen for my son and need to sync it to the computer that has my daughter's 1st gen itouch on it. Last time I tried it wiped her itouch clean and put everything on his.

    Hello Orlosky,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not sure as to how that happened, because there is no limit to how many devices you can sync to one computer. To sync to the 2nd iPod, simply hook it up, go through the registration and setup process, and then sync away.
There are several ways of managing multiple iPods with one computer. I think your best option would be to check out this Apple support document. Hope it helps.
