Using iVPN on OSX NON SERVER

I'm stuck. I downloaded iVPN to allow my external computers access to my MAC. I'm stuck at the server address... what is the server address? Looking through the threads, most of you are using OSX Server. I'm not. I've forwarded to appropriate port, and assigned IP's in iVPN, but am stuck at this point.

Hi
I've no idea what iVPN is. If it's like the usual VPN Protocols most of us on these boards are familiar with, then I think the IP address you're referring to, would be the external IP address remote clients would have to use before being allowed through the firewall to the internal/private address of the desired computer (mac or otherwise, server or client). Ideally both IP addresses (external and internal) should be fixed.
For example 81.80.90.24 > NAT/Firewall/VPN Passthrough > 172.16.16.254.
To find the external IP address launch any browser and in the url key in www.myipadress.com.

  • How can I use LDAP searching from OSX Lion Server to Mozilla Thunderbird?

How can I use LDAP searching from OSX Lion Server to Mozilla Thunderbird?  We have a super awesome contacts server that works great for our Mac users.  About 30% of our company are on PCs, and I would like to use the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client for them.  I see that in Thunderbird I can set up LDAP searching, and would like to have this feature point to our contacts server.  I've tried several different settings, and looked all over the web, but could not find the proper way to configure this.  Does anyone know if this can be done, or if not, would have a better suggestion?  Thank you for your time!!

try double clicking keychain acces should launch and ask if you want to install login, system, System roots
A dialog box will launch asking where to install the cert since your configuring a vpn I would put the certificate it in system.

  • Can i use osx lion server as a server for my online forum business? if so, what else do i need to get up and running. i know i need forum software. any suggestions?

hello fellow apple lovers. I am in desperate need of advice. I am going to be starting an online forum business in the coming weeks. I was wondering if osx lion server would be able to function as my business server. I also need mac compatible forum software. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bryan

If you have to use old Digidesign now Avid stuff, try to get hold of a DIGI 003 or a MBox pro. The 002 really sounds horrific (no offense) and I doubt it will be of any use in ML, even the MBox pro sounds better……..
By the way, I thought that since ProTools 9 one could use any hardware of choice in combo. If you must use PTools, I would defiantly look for a more up to date hardware and Avid wouldn't be my first choice!
    Have a nice day!

  • How Stable is the OSX eMail Server?  Do you Use it, or have you dropped it?

We used the email server in Panther and it was crap.
Spam protection was crap, and it was somewhat insecure, so I ended up spending $1,000 a year to maintain it.  We shifted over to a company called Fastmail, which is less hassel, but still $1,000 a year.  I'm wondering do people use the OSX mail server for small office enviornments, and how does it work for you?  Is it ready for prime-time?
Please let me know your experiences (good and bad)...

Had a good experience with Panther mail services. Better with Tiger, better still with Leopard and better again with Snow Leopard.
Your milage will vary depending on what you invest in the tools provided.
Start by understanding that the server tools provide a fairly basic configuration. To get the most out of them, you'll need to move beyond the GUI
and edit some configuration files directly. Backing them up first of course (standard practice).
Learn about the MTA provided - namely, Postfix.
By learning and understanding Postfix' configuration files and options & abilities,
you can achieve far far far better rejection of spam. Which is what you want - not to queue the junk mail and waste your server's time & resources on chomping on obvious spam.
The MDA used to be Cyrus, but as of 10.6 server that's been replaced by Dovecot which - so far - has been very good. More stable overall and better performance. As of 10.4 server there have been zero stability issues but the systems involved were typically serving about 20 users at most. Others have been using OS X Server with far more users, but you have to plan & allocate appropriate resources in terms of your server or servers.
I used to bother with custom-installing newer versions of amavisd and spamassassin but don't much anymore, I took advantage of Postfix's capabilities and between that and the zen.spamhaus.org RBL, very little spam gets through at all.
But what are your needs ? Start there. Who will support the product and what is their experience and/or understanding of servers &/or ability & willingness to learn ? Can you afford to have a novice mail/sysadmin ?
If not, what resources do you have to allocate to ensuring your mailserver is properly configured, monitored and maintained ?
If you needs are not met by what OS X Server provides, but you really want the underlying OS to be Mac OS X, then look at Kerio Connect.
If you try working with OS X Server again, then run don't walk and buy the Book of Postfix (it's on my tech bookshelf). http://www.postfix-book.com/
If you don't have it already I'd also suggest DNS & BIND (O'Reilly Press) by Cricket Liu & Paul Albitz,
Unix System Administration Handbook (now "Unix & Linux" (etc.)), Essential System Administration (O'Reilly) and while it's "only" for 10.3, be sure to invest in "Essential Mac OS X Panther Server Administration" by Michael Bartosh. There's much in there that's still appropriate and relevant in terms of understanding the architecture(s) of OS X Server and best practices in troubleshooting.

Hello, I use MAC AIR OSX 10.6.8 and have Adobe CS2, that I was using 2 years ago on my older computer. I stopped using it because it would close down in the middle of work. Now I would like to reinstall it on the MacAir but I can not get it working. It tells Adobe doesnT support my System. But I can not update my old version or activate it. What can I do?

The mac you want to install photoshop cs2 on is running mac os x 10.6.8 Snow Leopard?
(photoshop cs2 won't run on intel macs with mac os x newer than snow leopard)
Did you ever have cs2 installed on this particular computer before?
If the problem is that you already installed cs2, but it won't activate, that's because adobe took the activation servers offline for some older adobe products such as cs2.
You'll need to use the non activation version of cs2 from here and the supplied serial number:
Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products

  • Replace Snow Leopard Server OS on Mini Server with Snow Leopard non-Server?

I have a Mid-2010 Mini Server which came preinstalled with Snow Leopard Server. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with attempting to replace the OS-X Server software with OS-X non-Server in order to run Parallels for the Desktop. If this worked, then one should be able to re-install the OS-X Server software as a client using Parallels. Parallels states that it supports OS-X Server as a client, but the real question is whether one can install the OS-X (non-server) on a Mini which came with the OS-X Server software installed.

    Hi
Your problem is going to be finding a Client OS that will actually boot and install on the MacMini:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159
According to MacTracker the build version of OSX Server 10.6.3 shipping with the MacMini Servers is 10D2235. It may work if you have a comparable client that's fully updated to 10.6.4. One way of finding out is to target disk mode an appropriately updated mac to the MacMini Server. If you can, select the System on that unit as the Startup Disk and see if it boots and works successfully with no kernel panics.

  • How do I set up my OSX Leopard Server to host a website?, how do I set up my OSX Leopard Server to host a website?

I own a small video game store and want to host my own website since I really don't want to spend the money on a hosting plan. I have a old G5 with OS X Leopard Server installed and have spent many countless hours reading tutorials on how to set it up, but none of them simply tell me what exactly to do. I have a very good knowledge of IT and didn't expect to have this much trouble.
I would like to set up the server to host the website, and also have it be able to do email as well (have a email address like [email protected])
I bought a domain from godaddy (www.g4uoc.com) , Have my G5 OSX Leopard Server up and running, have my website all built and ready to go, but I don't know how to set anything up. Can someone help me out at all?

There are numerous walkthroughs and tutorials on this, I'm surprised you couldn't find something.
    Short answer:
    1) dump your web content (HTML files, images, etc.) into /Library/WebServer/Documents
    2) Configure your router to forward connections on port 80 to your server (the specifics will vary depending on your router make/model)
    3) Use GoDaddy's web portal to setup www.g4uoc.com to map to your router's public address.
You're done. Remote users will lookup www.g4uoc.com on GoDaddy's servers and will get your router's public address. When they try to connect the router will forward the connection to your server which will serve the matching request from /Library/WebServer/Documents/

  • OSX Lion Server/Clients TimeMachine Location

    Dear Community,
I have a problem with Timemachine for OSX Lion Server on a MacMini and hope you can help me out. I have an attached TB drive (Pegasus R6, RAID5) and set up TM sharing for the clients of my small workgroup to this drive. The Backup folder location on the server is /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Shared\ Items/Backups. Everything fine so far, clients can backup into that folder with TM sparsebundles.
My Problem is that when switching "on" TM Backup for the Server itself, I am able to choose the Volume "Backup-Volume", but it backs up to /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Backups.backupdb as a folder, not a sparsebundle.
Don't beat me, I know this is just a cosmetic issue, but why ain't it possible to store them in the same folder, with an equivalent type of structure (sparsebundle/folder). I like to have my system clean and don't like to search on different locations for my backups.
Does anybody know a workaround to manually set the location for Backups, either for clients or server. I don't care which folder it actually is, /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Shared\ Items/Backups/xxx.sparsebundle or /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Backups.backupdb/..., both are fine but it should be consistent.
A different question in this context: If this works out, I will set the HDDs the following way:
    Pegasus:
2*2TB RAID 0 as Share Point "Data-Volume" for fast access, backuped
4*2TB RAID 5 as Share Point "Backup-Volume" as the name indicates for backups :-)
    Mac Mini:
    1*500 GB for OS, backuped
1*500 GB as Share Point "Scratch-Volume" not backuped
    Any objections regarding this setup?
    Thanks, Alex

When you say 'manage', what do you mean?
If you're talking directory services where you're just sorting account credentials that clients use to authenticate, then... oh several thousand... or tens of thousands, because the server is only involved when a user logs in - it validates the user's credentials and passes back details about the user's account.
However, if the user's home directories are also on the server (so the client mounts the user's home directory when they log in) well now you have a file sharing component, and network bandwidth requirements when the user logs in, etc.
Assuming you have 100 active users and a perfect gigabit network (which never, ever happens) then each user is going to get an average of 10mpbs to the server (and to their home directory, for opening/saving files, etc.). Double that to 200 users and you're down to 5mbps each. Consider that most networks never work at more than about 50% efficiency (due to protocol overheads, etc.) and you're down to 2-3mpbs each. That could be an issue.
Of course, if you have 200 users in your directory, but there's only ever 10 or 20 people active at a time those numbers change, but the point is there IS no hard number as to how many clients you can support - it's dependent on multiple factors, and way more than you've listed here.
None of that is directly relevant to whether you need a second machine or not. I'd argue that with 80 users you absolutely need another machine, if only for redundancy's sake if not load. Consider the business impact f that server is offline for any reason and you don't have a spare server to carry the load.

  • How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation?

How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation? We're waiting for our server to arrive and in the interum we're using a Pegasus 2 R6 attached to an iMac running Mavericks as our fileserver. It's been sketchy, the connection to the server being dropped once in a while or the inability to mount the drive after a week of success. The Pegasus we're using now will be attached to a server once it arrives. For now I need to figure what's coausing trouble before I commit to this being our main storage as planned. The data is backed up every night so I'm not worried, its the usability issues. 5-7 people are mounting this drive and opening/saving at the same time. Is there a limit to Maverick's fileserving ability that may be causing this? Understandable if so.

The file server in the client version of OS X has a default limit of 10 simultaneous connections. That limit can be raised by installing OS X Server, or lowered by setting a hidden preference. Assuming you've done neither, you may be able to solve the problem temporarily by stopping and restarting file sharing in the Sharing preference pane, or permanently by setting another hidden preference on the server to break idle connections quickly.
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool YES
Stop and restart file sharing. To reverse the change, run this command in the same way:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool NO
Credit for this solution to ASC member suter:
this file server will not allow any additional users to log on

  • Can port 25 be used for SSL-enable SMTP server ?

    Hi,
Our customer is using port 25 for a SSL-enabled SMTP server without certificate. When our email client tried to connect to it, the following exception thrown:
DEBUG SMTP: exception reading response: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Unrecognized SSL message, plaintext connection?
Since we don't want to ask our customer to change their port configuration unless absolutely necessary, we did some tests with our own SSL-enabled SMTP server that uses certificate. Here is what I got:
    1) with port 25, got the same exception as above;
    2) with port 465, worked fine;
    3) with any other randomly pick up valid port, worked fine.
This made me wonder if 25 is for non SSL SMTP server ONLY. By the way, I'm using Javamail 1.3.4 and JSDK 1.4.2_02. My question is whether we can configure javamail so that port 25 can be used by SSL-enabled SMTP server?
    Your help will be appreciated.

Yes, port 25 is intended for non-SSL servers only, although that doesn't
prevent a client from making a plain text connection and then using the
STARTTLS command to switch the connection to SSL/TLS. JavaMail 1.4
    supports that usage.
You can configure JavaMail to use port 25 for SSL connections if you
really want to. JavaMail 1.3.x requires you configure an appropriate
socket factory to get SSL connections; you can configure whatever port
you want for use with that socket factory.

  • (new?) performance problem using jDriver after a Sql Server 6.5 to 2000 conversion

    Hi,
This is similar - yet different - to a few of the old postings about performance
problems with using jdbc drivers against Sql Server 7 & 2000.
    Here's the situation:
I am running a standalone java application on a Solaris box using BEA's jdbc driver
to connect to a Sql Server database on another network. The application retrieves
data from the database through joins on several tables for approximately 40,000
unique ids. It then processes all of this data and produces a file. We tuned
the app so that the execution time for a single run through the application was
24 minutes running against Sql Server 6.5 with BEA's jdbc driver. After performing
a DBMS conversion to upgrade it to Sql Server 2000 I switched the jDriver to the
Sql Server 2000 version. I ran the app and got an alarming execution time of
5hrs 32 min. After some research, I found the problem with unicode and nvarchar/varchar
and set the "useVarChars" property to "true" on the driver. The execution time
for a single run through the application is now 56 minutes.
56 minutes compared to 5 1/2 hrs is an amazing improvement. However, it is still
over twice the execution time that I was seeing against the 6.5 database. Theoretically,
I should be able to switch out my jdbc driver and the DBMS conversion should be
invisible to my application. That would also mean that I should be seeing the
same execution times with both versions of the DBMS. Has anybody else seen a
simlar situation? Are there any other settings or fixes that I can put into place
to get my performance back down to what I was seeing with 6.5? I would rather
not have to go through and perform another round of performance tuning after having
already done this when the app was originally built.
    thanks,
    mike

    Mike wrote:
    Joe,
This was actually my next step. I replaced the BEA driver with
the MS driver and let it run through with out making any
configuration changes, just to see what happened. I got an
execution time of about 7 1/2 hrs (which was shocking). So,
(comparing apples to apples) while leaving the default unicode
property on, BEA ran faster than MS, 5 1/2 hrs to 7 1/2 hrs.
I then set the 'SendStringParametersAsUnicode' to 'false' on the
MS driver and ran another test. This time the application
executed in just over 24 minutes. The actual runtime was 24 min
16 sec, which is still ever so slightly above the actual runtime
against SS 6.5 which was 23 min 35 sec, but is twice as fast as the
56 minutes that BEA's driver was giving me.
I think that this is very interesting. I checked to make sure that
there were no outside factors that may have been influencing the
runtimes in either case, and there were none. Just to make sure,
I ran each driver again and got the same results. It sounds like
there are no known issues regarding this?
We have people looking into things on the DBMS side and I'm still
looking into things on my end, but so far none of us have found
anything. We'd like to continue using BEA's driver for the
support and the fact that we use Weblogic Server for all of our
online applications, but this new data might mean that I have to
switch drivers for this particular application.Thanks. No, there is no known issue, and if you put a packet sniffer
between the client and DBMS, you will probably not see any appreciable
difference in the content of the SQL sent be either driver. My suspicion is
that it involves the historical backward compatibility built in to the DBMS.
It must still handle several iterations of older applications, speaking obsolete
versions of the DBMS protocol, and expecting different DBMS behavior!
Our driver presents itself as a SQL7-level application, and may well be treated
differently than a newer one. This may include different query processing.
Because our driver is deprecated, it is unlikely that it will be changed in
future. We will certainly support you using the MS driver, and if you look
in the MS JDBC newsgroup, you'll see more answers from BEA folks than
    from MS people!
    Joe
    >
    >
    Mike
The next test you should do, to isolate the issue, is to try another
    JDBC driver.
MS provides a type-4 driver now, for free. If it is significantly faster,
    it would be
interesting. However, it would still not isolate the problem, because
    we still would
need to know what query plan is created by the DBMS, and why.
    Joe Weinstein at BEA
PS: I can only tell you that our driver has not changed in it's semantic
    function.
It essentially send SQL to the DBMS. It doesn't alter it.

  • Neboot, 10.5.2 image from OSX Tiger Server fails to new macbooks

(I apologize in advance, I looked through several threads but could not find answer
to my situation. I also apologize because I tried to get help at the Bombich forum,
but an admin marked it "solved", when in fact it isn't.
Thus I turn to the Apple faithful for help with this matter.)
Using NetRestore 3.4.3, and I'm imaging MacBook (early 2008) labs,
    with 26 MBs in them.
How I Do it: I get one MB, and using Leopard from OEM, I then patch
up to Leo 10.5.2/QT 7.4.5/Safari 3.1 and I install the elementary apps
necessary ( Kid Pix 3, Kidspiration 2, and Nystrom).
I also install Office 2004, patched up to 11.4.1, and iWorks 08.
I verify the image is correct, and then firewire connect the MB
to my Master machine, a MBP running 10.5.2 and NetRestore 3.4.3.
I then create the NetRestore image from the MB, and then create the NetInstall
nbi for the image. I then copy the items from the MBP to my imaging server,
a PPC iMac running OS X Server 10.4.11, via FW.
I then set the Netboot options in the Server, and reboot the server for good measure.
I then start hooking up the 25 MBs into a Cisco 2950 switch, which the
Server is hooked into. I then boot all machines into NetBoot ( cmd-n)
and image ( slowly) all the machines.
    The Problem:
Once the images have been created on the machines, and after reboot,
I then log into as the local admin, then set the server binding.
Once the binding is complete, I log out, and then verify the binding sticks.
I then log in as a managed user.
This is where the image "breaks". The managed user becomes locked out
of most Universal apps, and apps that should run under Rosetta,
come up with their icons changed to the "ghostbusters circle"
(Circle with line through it), and give the error " This application cannot run
due to it not being supported on this architecture".
However, if I log back in as local admin, the applications act as normal.
Also, if I log in or log out as a managed user, the system often hangs,
either at login or logout, leaving me with just the Leopard space screen,
and will sometimes force me to force quit the
system to get it to respond again.
Contacting Apple, their only suggestion was to start again, but to use SUI
from a Leopard Server Disc, which I didn't have but they were nice enough
to send to me anyway, and create the NetBoot off of that.
I decided however to give NetBoot one more try, and tried it again,
this time making sure I repaired permissions on the original image
(MB) before making the NetBoot image in NR 3.4.3.
I still recieve the same problems afterwards.
I then did a test in which I created both a second local admin account and
a local standard account, and both acted like a managed account:
apps could not be used, "ghostbuster circles" and log in/ log out hangs.
I'm hesitant to use Leopard SIU, because I read all the reports of it's slowness,
but is there something in 10.5.2 that breaks Netbooting?
I've had no problems with Tiger Images in the past, so I'm pretty sure
    i got my steps down.
    Update in my testing :
Today I decided to try and troubleshoot the image again, so this time
I took the existing MacBook I used to make the image from,
and I re-installed the problematic applications again,
as well as delete the secondary admin and the standard user
from my config, as I would add these later after the computers
    have been imaged.
I then ran fix disc permissions on the image drive, and now I am using
Net Restore 3.4.4, to remake the image andwhen done, I will re- create
    the nbi for the netinstall.
I will test out the image shortly to see if it will work.
    ok, follow-up:
after completing my new image and re-creating through NetRestore 3.4.4,
as well as new nbi's, I copied them over FireWire to my OS X Tiger .4.11 Server.
Set Netboot in Server Admin, made the Leopard image the default, restarted
    the server.
Attached a new MacBook IC2D 2.4ghz to my Cisco Switch that the Server is on,
    and attempted NetBoot.
Net Restore came on and began it's duty. 36 mins later, the image was on,
verified, and the machine was rebooting.
Upon reboot, I logged into the MacBook, as the primary admin,
and verified the UniBi apps and the PPC apps would launch correctly.
I then created the Standard account ( Student) on the machine,
and the logged out and then back in as Student to test.
All Privalges for Student were correct, and the UniBi and PPC apps functioned
    correctly.
I then logged out as Student , back in as Primary Admin ( me) and then
went to System Prefs and created the Secondary Admin (Teacher) for
    the machine.
I then logged out as Primary Admin, and then logged in as Secondary
Admin, and verified the UniBi and PPC apps would launch.
I then recieved the "This App is not supported under this architecture"
error with the UniBi and PPC apps under this secondary admin.
I logged out, and then logged back in as Primary Admin (me), and everything
still was working correctly under my account.
I then trashed the Secondary Admin ( Teacher), and created a new secondary admin
    (called simply School).
I then logged out as Primary Admin, logged in as School, and same errors
occur, "This App is not supported under this architecture"
error with the UniBi and PPC apps.
I then called one of the PPC app makers Tech Support to see if they had seen
    anything like this under Leopard.
Of course they hadn't, but after digging around, we decided to try this fix:
Logged in as Primary Admin, I did a get info on the folder of the app
    that was" breaking".
I then added the Secondary Admin to the Get Info panel and gave them
a full ride ( rw) privalges to the folder. I then told the Panel to
push them down ( propagate) to all children within the folder, including the app.
I then closed out of the Panel, logged out as admin, and then logged in
as Secondary admin. I then tested the app, and success, it launched
    perfectly!!!
So at this point, I would say there is something more to the point
problematic with Leopard .5.2 's ability to distinguish privileges
to non Leopard based apps. Apps like the iLife 08 suite, and
iWorks 08 didn't exhibt any of the problems I saw with Unibi
and PPC apps under the secondary admin account; they worked as they should.
At this point, I will add this "fix" to my list of drudgery that I do
in finalization of the machine, like setting binding to the local
OS X Server for Managed Accounts, which is next on my list to test,
as that is also problematic with these Leopard .5.2. installs.
Ok, so in part two to continue with my problems
with 10.5.2 image and using NetRestore 3.4.4:
I took the image out to test in a wide deployment.
So with my same Tiger Server having the image,
and my trusty Cisco 2950 switch,
I set up 8 Macbooks to begin the deployment.
The first four I turned on and got connected to the
Server and they began to Netboot fine.
MacBooks five through 8, I then tried to boot them up
and get them in line to begin netbooting, but after taking up to
10 minutes to connect to the server, they all came up with the following
    error:
"You do not have read privileges to the source image. Please check
the permissions on the image and try again."
The first four were still imaging just fine, the next four would just hang
    at that error message.
So I waited for one to completely finish out of the first four,
and when it did, I tried to netboot one of the second group
of four, and after 10 minutes, it connected and began it's process.
I then tried another in the second group of four, and got the same
    "privileges on image" error.
    So what gives?
Why can I only do four machines at a time? I know the image is
fine and its permissions are ok, because I can do four machines
at a time. It's when I try to do more than that then the problem
    occurs.
Is this a Leopard issue or a Net Restore 3.4.4. issue?
Well, just for grins, I put a PPC eMac onto the CISCO 2950,
and attempted a Netboot from it with the Leopard Universal image,
just to see if it would mount ( the emac is 700 mhz, so it would not
    support Leopard anyway).
It attempted Netboot, but came back with the same
"cannot read the disc image error" as seen on the
    MacBooks.
But the image worked fine on the first four MacBooks,
only when I attempted to NetBoot #5 did it cause the error.
Could trying to put on that fifth Macbook corrupted the image somehow?
    or the NBI?

While patiently waiting to see if anyone else is having my same issues,
I tried a Firewire hookup to my 10.4 server directly
of Macbooks 5 and 6, and tried a Netrestore through Firewire to the Macbooks
off the same image in my NetBootSp0's Resources/Disc Image folder,
and it restored fine to both , with only one error, that came up when it
tried to auto-restart, but I suspect that having to do with it
being unable to shut down the 10.4.11 Server more than anything else.
    So:
    1. the Image is valid, I can firewire restore from it at the server level
    no problem.
    2. It did do four MacBooks before saying it was "corrupted" and
    "Could not read the image".
    3. The Machines all boot into the Leopard NetBoot screen just fine
through the Cisco 2950 switch, and get the nbi to bring up, but
at the point it should auto run, it throws up the "corrupted" and
"Could not read the image" errors.
Unfortunately, I am under a deadline to image 540 MacBooks within the
next 30 days, and my patience is wearing thin......

  • Time Machine backup on OSX Leopard Server, no user logged in

    Hi
I'd like to use Time Machine to do backups of a Mini running OSX Leopard Server. It has a TimeCapsule connected, which it backs up to fine, at the moment.
However, I've been wondering, if it still backs up, if no user is logged in? I've been reading a few old tips about making removable drives not dismount, when no user is logged in by adding/modifying a key in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount.plist, setting AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin to true.
    Is this still nescessary?
Is TimeMachine actually running when no user is logged in?
Is it a good idea to set the key, if my users homedirs is on a removable drive too?
If TimeMachine is NOT the way to do it, which way is the best/smartest?
    Best regards
    Nicolai

  • Problems with Boot Camp, OSX Lion Server 10.7.3, and Windows 7

My new Mac Mini Server is running OSX Lion Server 10.7.3. I want to install Windows 7 as a dual boot. I start up Boot Camp and use an ISO image to create a USB boot disk. I don't seem to be able to use the DVD to install, so I use an ISO image on disk. I continue with the Boot Camp installation, with all three options on the main screen checked.  When I get to the part where I have to pick a partition on which to install, the only one I can select, and must format, is the partition labeled BOOTCAMP. But the Boot Camp support software Windows is installed there. I can continue with the Windows installation, and boot into Windows 7 with no problem. But since the Boot Camp drivers were wiped out, I cannot connect to the network, etc. I don't have a Boot Camp control panel either.I did this once before on my other Mac Mini Server I have, running the same OSX Lion Server 10.7.3, and it worked without a problem. I'm writing this message on that copy of Windows. But this new install just will not work, after two days of trying. I *must* get this working. I'm stumped.
CAN ANYONE HELP ??? TIA !!!!

First, this is re-post of your other thread.
Your driverrs were not and will not be "wiped out."
Run Boot Camp Assistant. Download the drivers
Your profile says Lion so that will let you store drivers on flash memory card.
They are never placed where Boot Camp created a partition.

  • When using the built in web server, is there a way to specify a different

When using the built in web server, is there a way to specify a different error handler when you try to access a NON .CFM file? Right now I get the standard:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: filename.ext
Is there any setting to override this and direct the message to your own .cfm template? The missing template handler in the CF Admin work only for .cfm files.
    Thx

The in-built web server for ColdFusion 8 is JRun. I am on ColdFusion 10, however, and so cannot offer hands-on advice. (CF10 replaced JRun with Tomcat.)
My guess is that you have to modify the file {CF_ROOT}/WEB-INF/web.xml. Don't forget to create a back-up first!
You may then proceed as follows.
    1) In the ColdFusion root (CF_ROOT), create the file myCustomFileNotFound.cfm. Give it some content, like
My custom File Not Found page. Current time: <cfoutput>#now()#</cfoutput>
    2) Open the file {CF_ROOT}/WEB-INF/web.xml in a text editor. Add the following error-handling specification just before the end tag </web-app>:
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/myCustomFileNotFound.cfm</location>
    </error-page>
    Save the file web.xml.
    3) Restart ColdFusion. Test by browsing to a URL requesting filename.ext
