Using JRUN Datasource from CF

I am running CF 6.1 on top of JRUN4. I've also have some java
code that is packaged in a jar and available for invocation from
CF. I would like to use a JRUN datasource from that Java code. Is
this possible?

Hmmm ... I have a datasource on the "default" JRUN server
instanced called: "DAwactlg"
JDBC Data Sources
Actions Data Source Name Database Driver
Edit Verify Delete DAwactlg macromedia.jdbc.MacromediaDriver
I also have a different ColdFusion data source in the
ColdFusion app running in the "default" server.
Connected Data Sources
Actions Data Source Name Driver Status
W09ORD Oracle
The JRUN configured DSN called "DAwactlg" is not showing in
the CF Admin.
Thoughts?

  • Advices about creating a datasource from an infoset query

    Hi all,
    i have to create a datasource with extraction from an infoset query in R3, i have many questions:
    1- i have heard about the bad performance using a Datasource from an Infoset query, how can i improve this?
    2- The infoset query doesnt exist in R3 Develop, but this exist in R3 Prod, what do i must to do? create a false infosetquery in R3 D, with just the same name of the info set query in R3 Prod? or what else?,
    3- some material to improve this development about create datasources from an infoset query.
    thanks guys!

    Hi,
    You can verywell use infoset query if you are doing following things
    Join using Keyfields to retreive data from tables
    If not using keyfields create index for those table fields  in those fields which will improve in accessing database
    Try to use minimum of tables of small size dont try to join big tables like GLPCA and all.
    Try to load small set of data like a period or month. Dont try for a year or so.
    if your performance is good for aperiod you can go for a year.
    If you are good in function module you can try function module in which you will have the option of specifying no of records to be selected usign package size.
    Hope this helps for you.
    Thanks,
    Arun

  • Runtime Datasource from Jboss/Weblogic

    I have a application running JBoss, which we uses the datasource in the deploy folder.
    I have the report viewer working it is using the datasource from within the report file itself. At runtime, i would like to change the datasource in the report to use the datasource from Jboss, or pass a open connection. My only want to have one connection pool managed by the applicaiton server(Jboss/Weblogic).
    Thanks. Please let me know if it is unclear.

    I understand that I don't have the ability to pass in a connection. However, it is possible to use  the Jboss/Weblogic datasource in the deploy folder. If so, could you point in the right direction. So I could share the database connection pool.
    I have tried to use the setting JNDI string in the propertyBag for the connectionInfo. However, I am unable to get it to work.
    Thanks in advance for your time.

    JBoss requires a special lookup type to lookup a DataSource, you need to set the lookup type to string (or possibly compound-name).
    i.e.
    <login>
    <datasource lookup="string">java:myDataSouce</datasource>
    <platform-class>oracle.toplink.platform.database.oracle.OraclePlatform</platform-class>
    </login>

  • How to connect SQL server using JRun

    I am relatively dumb into Java. I am running JRun server in Unix box, and I need to connect to the SQL server (full marks for guesssing that SQL server is on the Win2K box).
    Now I want to connect to the SQL server from Jrun using JSPs.
    Question:
    1. Is JDBC:ODBC only way to connect to the SQL server, if yes -
    2. Do I have to create a DSN on the server for the JDBC:ODBC bridge to work
    3. Can I write my own database connection package,
    Appreciate if any body can help me with this problem, and if you have written a package to connect to the database, then would be nice if you would let me try the same.
    If you have any responses, please email me at [email protected]
    Thanks in Advance for the anticipated help.
    Viviar Prasad

    Hi Prasad,
    There is two ways(what I have done) to connect to sql server in jRun..
    1) using your jdbc - odbc connectivity using your type one jdbc driver..
    2) using type 4 driver.. (type 2 and 3 are not available right now for sql server)
    in 1 you have to create an dsn and use it directly in program bypassing jrun management console(I mean u don't have to configure for that)
    in 2 case you need to use jrun proprietery driver for the jdbc... there is a problem here..
    this driver is available in Jrun 3.0 enterprise edition only and still has got some problem so you need to apply service pack-2 to your Jrun installation and need to download the driver.. jdbc driver from following link
    ftp://ftp.allaire.com/kbftp/jrun/all/jrun_drivers.jar.zip
    this will suply a html doc along with the driver . which will explain you how to apply..
    you can download jdbc driver specilly for sql server from this link http://www.j-netdirect.com/jsqlconnect2_26.zip
    but it will expire in a month..
    any way once you have obtain any of the above driver, follow these step to configure jdbc in jrun.. you need to put the driver in the classpath..
    1 - open your management console
    2- select the webapplication for which you want to configure from left frame of mc(management console)
    3- select jdbc data source click the add button and follow the wizard..
    for more info ref to jrun quick start configuring jdbc settings that came with your JRun..
    or you can directly click the link there and type
    the name of the
    first
    datasource(you have supply any name you will be using that to access db in your java prog)
    second name of the the jdbc driver
    for Jrun it's
    allire.jrun.jdbc.JRunDriver
    for net direct
    com.jnetdirect.jsql.JSQLDriver
    third
    url for jrun driver
    jdbc:jrun:sqlserver://hostname:portno/databasename = dbname; USER = uname; Password = password
    where dbname is your database name
    uname is your sql server user name e.g sa
    password is your password for the corresponding user name
    where hostname is the name of the computer where your sqlserver is running it could be an ip e.g 10.0.0.32:1433
    1433 is the default port no for the sqlserver if you are using tcp protocol to connect to the sql server
    url for net direct
    jdbc:JSQLConnect//hostname:port/databasename=dbname; USER =uname; Password = password
    for any more information on this you can mail me in this id

  • Access Datasource from Servlet Engine (Tomcat)

    Hi,
    I'm using datasource connections in my beans and event in servlets.. It works fine in JRun 3.1 environment.
    But when I port to J2EE1.3 its throwing this exception...
    I just want to understand whether it is a limitation in J2EE1.3 & Tomcat environment or it is a security problem or do I have to change any configuration file so that I can make the datasource connection available outside the J2EE environment.

  • How can I look up DataSource from one EJB to the other EJB?

    Image that, I have 3 databases:
    DB1
    DB2
    DB3,
    And then, 03 DataSources is deployed in DS EJB, named DataSource1, DataSource2, DataSource3.
    In the other App EJB, I have Connection Management function, as follows:
    public Connection getConnection(databaseKey) {
    if (databaseKey.equals("DB1")){
    connection = remote.lookup("DataSource1");
    }else if (databaseKey.equals("DB2")){
    connection = remote.lookup("DataSource2");
    }else if (databaseKey.equals("DB3")){
    connection = remote.lookup("DataSource3");
    return connection;
    How can I access DataSource 1,2,3 from the other EJB? How to config EJB server for that?
    Thanks in advance!
    Now, I have the other App EJB. Some class will require one of the above DataSource from DS EJB through function getConnection(databaseKey){}

    I strongle suggest you to use a ServiceLocator for this . It will be very easy to identify.Go to the sun home page and look for a servicelocator pattern.You can even directly use that code for you.

  • How to use jndi datasource on Weblogic instead of adding a DB data source

    Hi All,
    version: 11.1.1.4
    I am trying to figure out how in my ADF applications I can use an existing jndi datasource out on our weblogic servers instead of having to bury the Database db source in my adf applications. Like SOA I would like to reference the DB directly during design so I can pull in entities and build view objects, but when I deploy I want it to reference the jndi datasource out on the weblogic server.
    Is this possible? If so I am not sure how to configure it like I would a DB adapter in SOA.
    As always appreciate the info.
    Thanks,
    S

    If you use ADF in the model layer (application modules) you can configure them to use JNDI Datasources. Just right click on the application module and select 'Configurations...'. In the next dialog you see all the configurations currently available (one named xxxxxlocal and one named xxxxxshared at least). Select the local and hit the edit button. This open the DB connect dialog where you can change the connection from JDBC URL to JDBC Datasource (JNDI). Save your work and when you now start the app it will use the JNDI name.

  • Error when using OC4J Datasource

    Hi,
    A customer is using a Servlet to run in an OC4j instance and is using EJB's for data DML.
    To work around the possibility that XMLTypes are not supported we do an update in the DoPost.

    opstmt = (OraclePreparedStatement)oconnection.prepareCall(sql);
    System.out.println(sql);

    tempCLOB = CLOB.createTemporary(oconnection,true,CLOB.DURATION_SESSION);

    writer.write(inhoud);
    writer.flush();
    writer.close();
    opstmt.setCLOB(1,tempCLOB);

    When they are using the getConnection from the Datasource:

    DataSource dataSource = null;
    // Look up data source object in directory service using JNDI
    dataSource = (DataSource)context.lookup("jdbc/prlDS");

    When we change it to the connection setup with a hard string it does work:
    private Connection getConnection() throws NamingException, SQLException
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new OracleDriver());
    return DriverManager.getConnection(Receiver.DATASOURCE);
    Does anybody have an idea what the difference is with the direct connect string or the datasource from OC4J.
    I attached the full error and the datasource.xml.
    Regards,
    Remco

    Hi Remco,
    You may not be aware of this, but the "Connection" returned from a "DataSource" is not necessarily the same as the one returned from "DriverManager". If I remember correctly, there was a similar question to yours posted to this forum, not so long ago. As I recall, Steve Button mentioned that there are emulated and non-emulated "Connection"s. I saw no mention in your post regarding which version of OC4J you are using, so I will assume the latest, stand-alone, production version (9.0.3). The Data Sources chapter of Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE Services Guide has more details.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Datasource from a logical database.

    Hi all,
      I am in need of creating a datasource from a std.. Logical Database IMA in R/3. Is it possible to create a datasource directly from logical database or it is essential to find the base tables fetching data to the logical databse and look for the appropriate business content.
    Regards,

    Thank you,
      The document helped me to create a Infoset.Can anyone share ur experience of creating a datasource using a INFoset which extracts data from a LDB. The LDB which i am supposed to use has few structures,hence, I am having some performance isssues which i believe a more elaborate better document can help me with.. The LDB I am looking for is IMA.

    CFMX 7.0.2 is a separate application from JRun. If you have
    the multiserver or j2ee install of CFMX on JRun then you should
    install Updater 6. Also there are hot fixes on top of U6 that you
    might want to install. The following is a link to the JRun 4 hot
    fixes:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_18526
    You should check each one individually to see if it applies
    to Updater 6.

  • Using XML Datasource - is this possible

    Firstly, let me say I have searched the web, this forum and the tutorials etc to find something useful to point me in the right direction but had no luck thus far.
    I have some XML that looks like this;
    <StaffList>
        <Staff StaffId="1" Name="Fred Nerk" Mission="JMO">
            <SAC Code="001001"/>
            <SAC Code="001002"/>
            <SAC Code="001003"/>
        </Staff>
        <Staff StaffId="2" Name="John Doe" Mission="UKDEL">
            <SAC Code="001002"/>
        </Staff>
        <Staff StaffId="3" Name="Jane Citizen" Mission="UKREP">
            <SAC Code="001002"/>
        </Staff>
        <Staff StaffId="4" Name="Kim Hughes" Mission="JMO">
            <SAC Code="001002"/>
        </Staff>
    </StaffList>
    We have a dropdown list that contains the Name attribute of each staff element.  We have done that by using a Datasource and binding it to the XML.  Easy.
    Once a Staff member is selected in the dropdown list we would like to populate a control with the value of the "Code" attribute from the child SAC Code element(s) for the selected Staff member.  We would also like to populate a control with the "Mission" attribute for the selected Staff element.
    Is this possible using LC designer?  If so what tactic can we use to do it?  Any help appreciated.  Happy to reshape the XML if it makes it easier.

    Hi,
    I also think you will need some code but it wont be a lot.  In the change event of you dropdown list you will need something like;
    var
    staffDataNode = $record.resolveNode("StaffList.Staff.(StaffId.value == " + this.boundItem(xfa.event.change) + ")" );SAC.clearItems();
    for   (var i=0; i<staffDataNode.SAC.all.length; i++ ){
         SAC.addItem(staffDataNode.SAC.all.item(i).Code.value);
    Mission.rawValue
    = staffDataNode.Mission.value;
    where SAC and Mission are the controls for the dependent values
    Attached is my form to test the above code.

  • Using Single Datasource to Access Multiple Databases

    Hi,
    We would like to know the pros and cons of accessing multiple
    databases through a single datasource, versus accessing each
    database through its own datasource. Our environment includes
    multiple web servers w/ the latest version of ColdFusion MX 7,
    clustered through a load balancer. Each web server has 800+ dsns
    pointing to different SQL databases on the same SQL server. We have
    noticed that the ColdFusion administrator is taking a long time to
    display or verify all datasources and sometimes it even times out.
    Another problem is that sometimes the neo-query file gets corrupted
    (for unknown reasons) which results in the deletion of one, or
    more, or all datasources on the web server.
    Because of the issues above we are researching the
    possibility of removing most of the datasources, and then accessing
    each database through a single bridge datasource. In that regard we
    plan to change our queries by inserting the sql db name and user in
    front of each table in the query such as:
    <cfquery name="query" datasource="single_dsn_name">
    select * from [#dbname#].dbo.tableName
    </cfquery>
    In the example above, obviously #dbname# would be a variable
    that will hold the name of the requested database. The code above
    would similarly apply to queries using, update, insert and join
    words.
    Are there any limitations or negatives from scalability,
    performance, and reliability perspective in implementing the above
    scenario versus having one datasource for each database.
    Also, if there is a better way of accomplishing this, we
    would love to hear about it.

    Here is my opinion, because I work with both schemas. The
    main advantage to use one datasource for all DBs in a SQL Server is
    the simplicity of administration.
    But the main disadvantage is security, because you are using
    a single user to access all DB in a server, you don't have
    isolation, and a user that knows your schema can access data of
    other DBs that he sould not be authorized.
    Another issue is is a user must access 2 differents DB with
    different permissions (a DB only read and the other read/write),
    you'll have to create another datasource, user, etc for it.
    But the decision depends in the enviroment. If you are a
    hosting company, I would use 1 datasource for user or DB. If the
    servers and DBs are of the same company, I could use one datasource
    for each SQL server.
    Best regards
