Using LIMIT function in PHP/MySQL Dreamweaver RecordSet
I want to have a record set that skips the first record, and shows the next three. I've found several suggestions online to use the LIMIT function, but I keep getting "error in SQL syntax." What am I missing?
mysql_select_db($database_adventcms, $adventcms);
$query_rsSideNews = "SELECT * FROM tb_news LIMIT 1, 3 WHERE status = 'Live' ORDER BY `date` DESC";
$rsSideNews = mysql_query($query_rsSideNews, $adventcms) or die(mysql_error());
$row_rsSideNews = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsSideNews);
$totalRows_rsSideNews = mysql_num_rows($rsSideNews);
And there we go. That's the reason I need to go through PHP/MySQL training rather than relying on google searches!

(PHP/MySql) Create Recordset but no column
Thanks for reading this, I am new to PHP/MySql
I have created a website www.ritchiecraft.co.uk which uses
PHP/MySql with Dreamweaver 8. I have created recordsets on most
items pages and filtered data as neccessary. After the site was up
and running I was required to insert a new topic and when I went to
create a new page and insert the recordset no data was placed in
the columns area and the filter/sort options were greyed out. I
checked the existing pages and found that this was happening to all
pages with recordsets. The connection, table data was there.
The site still works fine but I cannot introduce new pages or
edit existing because of the recordset problem. I was advised
previously to delete the Dreamweaver cache file but this did not
help.
The site is hosted commercially and the database was created
with phpMyAdmin and dont seem to have any connection problems.
Thanks for your time and any suggestions are welcome.sweetman wrote:

You can't do it through the Recordset dialog box. The simple
way to do
it is to create this query in the Recordset dialog box:
SELECT * FROM myTable
ORDER BY myOrder ASC
Then go into Code view and locate the following line:
$query_recordsetName = "SELECT * FROM myTable ORDER BY
myOrder ASC";
Change it to this:
if (isset($_GET['id'])) {
$col = get_magic_quotes_gpc() ? stripslashes($_GET['id']) :
$_GET['id'];
$col = mysql_real_escape_string($_GET['id']);
else {
$col = '*';
$query_recordsetName = "SELECT $col FROM myTable ORDER BY
myOrder ASC";

Updating to 10.4.11 killed my PHP/MYSQL connections
Hi all - I use Dreamweaver CS3 for web development, and have been using some very simple PHP/MYSQL Select and Inserts. Everything was working fabulously up until this morning, when I updated to 10.4.11 (Macbook Pro, CoreDuo). As soon as I updated, I get a 'No Database Selected' message in Safari, Firefox and IE. I can see the database and work with it in DWeaver, just can't get it to go live in browsers.
I'm running PHP 5.2.4, MYSQL 5.1.8 and whatever version of Apache is bundled in OS X (I think it's 1.x - but can't find how to get that number!)
Just for record, I have stopped/restarted Personal Web Sharing, Personal File Sharing, OS X, MYSQL to just check whether something wasn't working there.
I'm about to close out, zap the PRAM and then come back in.
Any ideas?
VinceThanks - A couple of additional points. This is OS X 10.4.11, not OS X Server, so I had installed MYSQL and PHP as fresh installations. MYSQL has not changed since I installed and is running fine through direct client (Navicat).
For PHP I was running 4 and it had been running fine. When the update to OSX came through, PHP 4 didn't work - no change had been made to any configuration file that was working already. These are the httpd.conf instructions I had followed to set-up PHP 4:
+1 Launch Terminal from /Applications/Utilities.+
+2 Open the Apache configuration file and edit the UNIX shell prompt:+
+sudo pico /etc/httpd/httpd.conf+
+3 When prompted for a password, enter the Mac OS X administrator account password.+
+4 Uncomment the following lines:+
+LoadModule php4_module libexec/httpd/libphp4.so+
+AddModule mod_php4.c+
+5 Add the following lines (add these lines above: AddType application/x-tar .tgz):+
+AddType application/x-httpd-php .php+
+AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps+
+Note: All the commands for the pico editor display on the screen and you can start any commands with the Control key. Use the arrow keys to move around. Pico is a text editor, mostly for UNIX users to use at the UNIX command line. The pico text editor resides in /usr/bin/ directory.+
+6 Add a new index page for PHP (index.php) so that the web server will recognize it as the first page to load:+
+<IfModule mod_dir.c>+
+DirectoryIndex index.html index.php index.htm+
</IfModule>
+7 Save the httpd.conf file by pressing ^X (control & x keys). When the screen asks "Save Modified buffer?", press "Y". When prompted for "File Name to write : httpd.conf", press Return once to accept it. This will return you to the UNIX shell prompt.+
When PHP 4 stopped working, I took the decision to upgrade to 5 and then fix the breakdown (by now, I was convinced it was an Apache change (nothing in config had changed at all). So, upgraded to PHP 5 and, to do so, had to reverse the directions above. Since then, I've tried reenabling the above, replacing with PHP5 wherever PHP4 appears, all to no avail (in fact, it just froze the Personal Web Sharing that turns Apache on/off).
Right now, running the phpinfo check detailed above tells me the PHP 5 is successfully installed and running. The text from the test copied here:

I don't know if any of this helps, but it's what I find. From my online troubleshooting and reading, I believe all of the above looks right and that things should work. So, I'm still left with an informed gut decision that something in the set-up of Apache changed (location in file structure, configuration file, etc.) Could it be looking at a second copy of httpd.conf somewhere else? That would seem to make sense - however I haven't managed to turn up how to assess which version of Apache is loaded (I think 1.3) or where it's located.
If anyone can confirm what PHP5 code should be included in httpd.conf given the above, that would be a great next step.
Thanks for all your assistance!

PhP/MySQL Horizontal/Vertical Repeat Region
Hi Guys,
I'm pretty sure this question would have been asked many times before. If so, first of all my apologies for re-posting this.
Anyway, what I'm trying to do is create a repeat region that spans for 4 columns and then repeats the rest in rows. For example, if I have 100 records in my table (MySQL), then I want to display this in a table of 4 columns and and 25 rows (in reality, the number of records would be unspecified, of course, but still the records need to be displayed on a 4 column, X row table). For example:

At the moment, I have no issue with displaying the records either horizontally or vertically (explicitly) using the built in "repeat region" behavior. However, where I'm having the problem is with displaying the records in a table as the one I described above.
I'm using DW CS5 with PhP/MySQL.
Can I still do this using the built in "repeat region" server behavior, if so how?
Otherwise, how else could I achieve this (ideally without using any extensions)?
Thanks in advance for any help and support,
CheersI'm believe you should be able to modify the repeat region code to do what you want it to do. With that said we will need 2 things:
1. To see the code from the page.
2. To know the order of the results is it:
Horizontal: 1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8
Or Vertical:
1 5
2 6
3 7

CS6 Dreamweaver using PHP & MySQL - Delete Record Server Behavior?
When I try to insert the Delete Record server behavior. I get an error message about a DeleteRecord.js file, which seems to be missing or defective. I cannot use the server behavior. I have a file that I developed using CS5, and it does indeed delete the record, but does not proceed to the destination I want. I cannot change that except in the server behavior, so I'm stuck. I have noticed that server behaviors seem to disappear without apparent cause, as it seems to have in this case. I will appreciate any suggestions! Is there any way to embed a call to a target page manually? All is working WITHOUT the server behavior appearing, but I want to go to a confirmation display page that shows the record is indeed deleted, and we just return to the (now blank) delete confirmation page. That'll drive a user bonkers!
Thanks!
Delete Record in CS6 Dreamweaver using PHP & MySQL?Well, your error message is self-explanatory.
DW stores ServerBehaviors in 'Configuration' folder in installation directory. If one of the behavior JS files is missing/ corrupt, you'll see the error message you just did.
I've uploaded a functional, proper version of DeleteRecord.js onto my site for you to download. Here's the link:
http://www.sudarshan.me/adobeforum/dw/app/behavior-js/DeleteRecord.zip
Download this file, extract it and put DeleteRecord.js file in your installation directory as follows. If prompted, 'replace' your local copy:
Mac: Applications > Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 > Configuration > ServerBehaviors > PHP_MySQL
Windows: C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\[language]\Configuration\ServerBehaviors\PHP_MySQL
It should work as expected.
If that still doesn't solve the problem, reset your DW preferences and cache and try doing it. Follow the instructions here to reset cache: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
Let us know how it goes.

How to use spry in the dreamweaver with the php/mysql

The reason you get nothing when you save the page with a .php
extension
is because you have display_errors turned off, so you can't
see the
error message telling you there's a syntax error. The
semicolon is
missing at the end of this line:
> echo "<font color='white'>Hello
Swetha</font>"
The reason it doesn't work with an .html extension is
probably because
you haven't uploaded SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js. I have
copied your
page and tested it locally with the correct JavaScript file,
and the
tabbed panels work as expected.
There are lots of other mistakes in your page. You can't use
float and
position:absolute on the same element. In at least one place,
you have
used </br> instead of <br />. You have also got
an closing paragraph tag
after the paragraph that contains abc.jpg.
Getting Spry or any other JavaScript library to work
correctly relies on
good, clean code. Your mixture of inline styles and font tags
is going
to make it difficult to incorporate Spry into your pages. I
suggest you
improve your HTML and CSS before bringing Spry into the mix.

Using MySql and PHP with Dreamweaver on a Mac
Hello all,
As always if the answers to these questions are obscenely
obvious please humour me.
I use XHTML and CSS in my websites and realise that it is
time that I dabbled with SSI. So I've started using PHP.
However, I have been following the installation directions of
MySql and am running into problems. I am installing the relavent
software and am then unable to find it on my Mac, the startup files
are there but the actual MySql data appears to not be installed
despite my computer telling me it is...... I am using a G3 running
OSX 10.4 is this good enough? I noticed talk of needing a PowerPC
or Intel mac. Is this the case?
Also, would I need MySql installed on my actual computer if
the my servers have it already? And does Dreamweaver 8 have both of
these programs installed as standard?
If you could help out I would be very appreciative as I would
like to learn this stuff and I appear to be struggling at the
outset....
Cheers

MySQL is a relational database management system that
comprises a
database server and several utility programs. Although you
install it
like any other program on a Mac, the similarity stops there.
First, the point about PowerPC and Intel Macs is that there
are
different versions of the MySQL installer for each type of
processor.
I'm pretty sure that a G3 is OK, but you must choose the
PowerPC version
of MySQL, not the 64-bit or x86 (Intel Mac) version.
Once you have installed MySQL, you need to drag the
MySQL.PrefPane icon
from the disk image onto your System Preferences. This
installs a
Preference Pane that enables you to start and stop MySQL. The
Preference
Pane has an option to start up MySQL automatically, but in my
experience, it doesn't work on Tiger. You need to open the
Preference
Pane, and click Start MySQL Server each time you start your
computer.
The best way to work with MySQL is to use a graphical
interface, such as
phpMyAdmin. As Osgood has mentioned, I have written a book
about PHP and
Dreamweaver, which goes into all the necessary details. It's
also very
Mac-friendly with separate instructions where necessary for
PC and Mac.

PHP MySQL sites created by dreamweaver mx 2004 crash on safari
Hello,
The title says it all, but i will elaborate.
I develop PHP, MySQl driven database websites, I use
Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I work on a macintosh, using both safari
version 2 and 3.
i have noticed that whenever I post a database item (add,
edit to table) my safari hangs and I get a page cannot be displayed
error after 1 minute or so, even though the db function went
through.
Now, this only happens with safari and it only happens with
pages I build with dreamweaver, any hand coded websites I build do
not do this.
i have posted this on the apple website with no response, I
am hoping someone here can help me.On Fri, 23 Nov 2007 16:21:50 +0000 (UTC), "MacDaddy333"

Where to go next with Dreamweaver and server-side (php/mysql) applications?
This question is mainly directed at David Powers but I appreciate any input from anyone with the same concern or question.
I've been using DW since the change from Macromedia and have developed a number of applications using built in server behaviors and sb extensions from ADDT, WebAssist, etc. I've learned to customize these behaviors to fit my needs always keeping within the "canned" code. In this way I've "learned" php.
I own most of David's books and in fact, it was because of these that I have any idea about what I'm doing and went in this direction in my "developer" career (building php/mysql applications using Dreamweaver.)
With the decision to remove server behaviors (and the other "developer" panels) from DW and with the deprecation of the mysql extension from the php landscape, I'm wondering where to go next? I fully understand this has to happen.
I'm aware of some alternatives:
Zend or some other framework - to me, this seems extremely complex
Keep several versions of DW installed
Stick to Joomla/WordPress/Drupal - let others who know what they're doing build the architecture
Actually LEARN php - wish I had time; too much work to do (I know how illogical that sounds but it's a very real situation)
I know I'm going to have to switch out all that deprecated code or better yet, rebuild the many applications which used the DW (and other) server behaviors. I'm just not sure which way to turn.rjjacob wrote:
Since I wrote this post I concluded that there is no substitute for understanding and have started my re-education by delving further into the issue with updated PHP/MySQL books and tutorials so I can prepare for a Dreamweaver without this functionality.
Yes, I too have concluded that is the way to go as well. There really is no substitute for learning as much as you can. Whilst the DW Server Behaviours were very convenient they have not kept pace, Adobe prefering to spent their time on less important updates in my opinion. The Server Behaviours are what makes Dreamweaver the tool of choice for database integration for those who lack the knowledge. I feel the Adobe team will regret not coming up with an alternative. Anything that detracts from making the program what it is is a step in the wrong direction and for sure this is a big step in the wrong direction.
rjjacob wrote:
I have mainly used DW server behaviors in my development projects that's why I am curious about what others are doing to make the change. I'm surprised there haven't been more posts; perhaps I'm the last one to be taking action about this, or maybe no one is too worried about it yet.
I think a lot have changed their working practice but many more are burying their heads in the sand. sql_ support is a way off from being completely dropped yet.
rjjacob wrote:
Anyway, your assessment of how terrible the server behaviors are is correct. I'm finding that true after barely breaking the binding on a few books about the greater subject and looking into mysqli and PDO.
Yes, because I relied heavily on them I did not know how bad they were until I forced myself to look further afield. What you can do in a couple of lines of code the DW Server Behaviors produced quadruple or more to achieve the same.
rjjacob wrote:
But they sure were convenient!
Yes, I agree. Maybe some extention developer will come up with a set of new improved behaviours. I tell you if they do they will make a shed load of money. -
Problems with recordset in PHP/MySQL setting
We use Dreamweaver CS5 for creating dynamic pages (PHP pages with MySQL database). We test the site locally on a Windows 7 operating system with EasyPHP as WAMP server.
We often have a problem in managing the record set.
The following problem occurs quite often:
We take a PHP page. We create a recordset. We use a dynamic table or a repeated region to show the results of the recordset. So far so good.
Then we want to change something to the recordset for example the filter. When editing the recordset, the advanced mode is shown, it is impossible to swith to the simple mode.
By deleting the recordset the problem is not solved. By deleting and afterwards rebuilding the recordset, syntax errors occur. It seems that the php code for building the recordset didn't dissapear.
The only solutions till now seems to completely restart with a new PHP page.
Anyone has a solution for this or anyone did experience the same problem ?
Thank you very much in advance.
IlseYou cannot switch to Simple mode in the Recordset dialog box if you have made any changes to the SQL in Advanced mode.
Opening the Recordset dialog box to edit the settings does occasionally result in the code being inserted again instead of being changed. This appears to be an intermittent bug, which I have experienced myself, and know that others have complained about it, too. As far as I know, there is no solution other than to watch carefully the code that Dreamweaver generates.
If you don't understand the code, you would be well advised to learn what it means and does. Relying on Dreamweaver to do everything for you severely limits what you can do with PHP/MySQL. Adobe regards the server behaviors as quick prototyping tools, rather than for developing production websites. -
Database Connection using PHP/MySQL on OS X
I created a database connection originally on my XP machine
using Dreamweaver CS2 and everything worked as it should. I
recently switched to a Mac and CS3 and while I can see the
connection file in the Connections folder, it appears grayed out in
Dreamweaver. I tried to create a new data connection to see if that
would solve this problem, but it won't let me. I typed in all the
information and when I clicked "Test" or to browse for the
appropriate database it pops up an error message saying "An
unidentifiable error has occurred". I'm sure I could work around
this by manually coding everything, but I'm a novice in programming
and need to be able to use this feature. The worst thing about it,
is that anytime I have to make a change to the web page, even if
it's not regarding this section of code, it gets messed up. I have
made backups, but once they are opened on the Mac they are messed
up.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3, PHP/MySQL on a remote server as I
still can't get my local web server functioning properly under
Leopard. Any help would be appreciated because I haven't been able
to find anything regarding this error online.bouldersp wrote:

That usually means that something is preventing communication
between
Dreamweaver and the testing server. It could be a firewall or
anti-virus
software. In the Testing Server section of the Advanced tab
in Site
definition, Host directory and URL prefix should both point
to the same
place. The first is the physical path to the top level of
your site, the
second is the URL you enter into a browser address bar to get
to the
same location.

Dreamweaver CC and PHP / MySql
So what has happened to the database connections, bindings and server behaviors options. There are no DATA options in the insert bar.
I hope this is not going away.
Max OSX 10.8Another whinge at Adobe's knee-jerk decision to remove Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases & Components from Dreamweaver CC!
I have been in the creative advertising world since the early eighties and developing websites since the early nineties. I have seen many changes in technologies over that time and started using Dreamweaver when it was first born. I have been a fan of Adobe products for along time and recall one of the first Adobe products I bought was Illustrator'88 (take a guess when that was released!).
A few weeks ago I decided to 'upgrade' from CS4 to Creative Cloud. I looked long and hard at the pros and cons but did not come across the issue of the removed behavious panels. I have had a hard time recently (without going into any detail) and decided to commit once again to working freelance in an area of the business that I love - dynamic communication. This means combining databases, html front-end (and associated technologies) and my marketing skills. The core technology therefore is Dreamweeaver combining front-end design with back-end structure. Now I have lost that vital link.
At the same time as upgrading to CC I gained two very large pieces of work, one was to redesign and re-engineer an existing and quite complex intranet site that I developed and few years ago and another is to create a whole new database driven site. Now I am stuck as to where to go.
I have read alot about this issue and my understanding is that PHP have decided to remove the Mysql extension from PHP and replace it with the more secure mysqli or PDO_MySQL extensions. Fair enough, technologies move on, I can understand that. What I can't understand is Adobe's reluctance to keep their change in product from it's 'everyday' users like myself. We, the users, don't always keep up-to-date with these changes in technlogy. We have our heads firmly fixed on doing our jobs and earning an honest crust. We rely on the likes of Adobe to keep up-to-date with these changes and make the tools available for us to use without any interuption to our workflow.
Why therefore have Adobe not put a notice on the existing Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases & Components stating that they recommend not to use these functions as they are being replaced, rather than simply removing them and leaving us with nothing. It's as if we had a rusty but usable shovel, Adobe comes along and takes takes the head of the shovel away and says we will give you something better to replace it with sometime in the future, but for now we just have to stab at the ground.
Is there an alternative way of working built into Dreamweaver CC or indeed any other Adobe CC product to help me achieve what I (and many others) want?
Is Adobe building in a new mysqli or PDO_MySQL functionality that will be similar to the Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases & Components panels that we are used to?
When will this new functionality be available as an update?
Extension "Deprecated Panel Support v.1.0.0" doesn't work for me and I don't know why. I cannot connect to any of my existing MySQL databases and therefore further development or changes to existing sites comes to an abrupt halt.
All we want are some simple, clear answers, otherwise we will have to make some clear and simple commercial decisions as our livelyhood depends on it. Here's hoping...

Dreamweaver newbie - php & mysql help
hi,
new to dremweaver, have used .net in past with vwd and found it straight forward to drag over grid view etc to view data from sql database.
i want to use php and mysql now and looking at dreameaver cs4 i really want to know what each navigation is. i.e. how do i create my mysql database and drag say a grid view in dreamweaver cs4 over to view?
basically just need to know the basics navigation of what buttons i need for to interact using php and mysql?
any help would be great, and also if anyone can recommend a good book on php/mysql with dreamweaver cs4 as a by the by then would greatly appreciate it.
many thanks
andyTake a look at this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Guide-Dreamweaver-Ajax-Essentials/dp/1430216107
I didn't read it, but I am currently reading the author's another book (David Powers: PHP Object-Oriented Solutions) and he is good.
David is also a community expert on these forums. -
I am so far out on the limb of my techno capability that if I
even think of leaning forward I will fall into the abyss.
Am using Dreamweaver MX 2004 to create PHP
view/add/update/delete forms to connect to a MySQL 5.0 database
hosted by HotZona.com. Use PhpMyAdmin to set up and define the
tables (about 20 tables). All of the work I have done so far has
been done inside of Dreamweaver MX 2004. Have not modified or
inserted any original code in any of the Php files generated so
far.
Have been able to setup view/add/update/delete forms for each
table. That took me some time and a major learning curve. Oh, and
that was after spending a month figuring out what happened to the
DW connection to the MySQL database.
Some of the tables are lists to be used as lists in other
tables. That is where I am now stumped.
I can set up (useing DW) an add form for a table that uses
another table for a list in one field. It shows properly in the add
form. But, when you look in the table using PhpMyAdmin, the field
in the table does not contain the value of the list item selected.
I've made a couple more changes so I may have licked this one.
But, I cannot figure out how to use DW to pull up the
sub-list value in vew, update or delete forms. Any suggestions on
how to do this in DW or do I have to write the code independent of
DW?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Mike Gareyhi ,
you can always try the macromedia devnet sites , they have
ongoing tutorials and discussions on all areas, including php with
dreamweaver8.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/topics/php.html
be aware though that some of the tutorials require the use of
third party php extensions, like interakt products, which is a
shame because most of them are expensive to buy. But they are still
worth a read.
hope this is some help.

Dreamweaver PHP/mySQL poll problem?
Hi,
I'm a PHP/mySQL noob who's using some of Dreamweaver's 8
(8.2) out-of-box Update server behaviors to update a database of
results for a poll. I know there's a lot of free polling apps out
there but I need to have the poll show up in another page as
opposed to being refreshed/displayed in the same page/content area.
I've successfully built the backend in phpMyAdmin and I'm
able to list the database contents and do basic updates to the poll
questions and answers. However, I've been unable to pass an
incremented result value via a Dreamweaver radio button group
(which is the normal poll format) without previous unselected
results being overwritten.
When an answer is selected the result is indeed incremented
and is displayed in the Result Listing but unfortunately it also
overwrites any preexisting data for that poll and replaces it with
zero. For example:
Question:
Answer a) 0
Answer b) 0
Answer c) 1 (this would be the value that was selected)
Answer d) 0
If c is selected again the value is stored and incremented
and the value is now 2. However, if that value is not selected,
then another value is incremented and c would be wiped. I've even
resorted to trying to use javascript to maintain the original state
but to no avail I was just previously incrementing the inline php
radio button value and/or assigning different names to each of the
radio buttons. This, of course, allows people to select multiple
values which runs contrary to the whole idea behind radio buttons,
but I thought I'd see if that worked . Anyway, when the radio group
is assigned the same value it merely increments everything.

As you can see, i'm up to version 15 and gritting me teeth,
lol. Any help would be mighty appreciated.
