Using log4j v.1.2 with Weblogic 7.0

I try to use logging pissibilities of Log4j with Weblogic 7.0 using com.bea.logging.WeblogicAppender
class from logtoolkit.jar.
When I use Weblogic's version of Log4j (v. 1.1.3), all is OK. When I try to use
current version of Log4j (v.1.2.6), I receive java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: priority

Does anybody know this problem?

Try changing "priority" to "level".

  • Using StoneBeat WebCluster load balancing with WebLogic

              Hi,
              I have done some testing of WebLogic Server with my company's StoneBeat WebCluster
              distributed load balancing software. This might be one more option to consider
              as a load balancing solution for WLS. It is advanced in the sense that load balancing
              is really dynamic, there are no single-points of failure (distributed architecture)
              and there is a very good, configurable test subsystem that runs on each cluster
              node to check for overload situations, HW/OS failures, ...
              In the initial testing, the WebCluster load balancing works with WebLogic replication,
              although there are some cases that need mroe consideration (please see below).
              I had to get a patch to WLS6SP1 on NT to make WLS' multicast work when there are
              several NICs on the cluster nodes.
              However, there is one case which causes problems:
              - I have 3 cluster nodes
              - P: 2, S: 3 (SessionServlet = 1)
              - 2: offline - P: 3, S: 1 (SessionServlet = 2; WebCluster randomly selected a
              new node to handle the connection)
              - 2: online - P: 2, S: ? (SessionServlet = 3, WebCluster redistributes the load
              when a node goes online)
              - 2: offline
              - P: 3, S: 1 (__SessionServlet = 1__) NB!
              The log messages show that when node 2 comes back online it retrieves the replica
              from the secondary (node 1) and not from the primary (node 3). After a while (5-6
              minutes), node 3 tries to update the replica on node 1. Node 1 considers this
              a stale update request and removes the Primary 16... (node name) and then the
              secondary for 16... (the replicated object). Then there's a message (still on
              node 1) that it is unable to find object 16... Back on node 3 the primary for
              16... is removed.
              From the WLS6 documentation (under the discussion of using replication with external
              HW load balancing solutions) I thought that this case would have been handled:
              - it is stated that after the failure of a node, if the HWLB box sends the next
              request to a node where there is no replica, WLS is able to retrieve the replica
              - to be fair, this is what happens: when node 2 came back online, it retrieved
              the replica from node 1 (the secondary) - I suppose that there is an assumption
              that if a request arrives to a node without a replica, the primary __must have
              failed__
              Is there any way to get around this problem?
              Admittedly, WebCluster has a problem in that the stickyness of connections is
              not perfect: - when a node goes online, a connection that was correctly persisted
              (based on either source-ip or source-network address) may be moved to a new node
              since the load is redistributed. Our load balancing is very dynamic, but doesn't
              maintain a list of who is connected to which node when resistribution takes place
              Regards,

    You may want to look at the Alteon and F5 configuration we have on edocs.
    Take a look at the following URLs for a possible solution

  • Problems using 4096 bit SSL certificate with WebLogic Apache 2.2 plug-in

    Hi,
    'm using WebLogic 9.2 MP3 and Apache HTTP Server (version 2.2) Plug-In. For security reasons, I have SSL installed on both Apache and WebLogic. So Apache must communicate with WebLogic via https.
    I get the following error when attempting to access WebLogic via Apache:
    Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
    These are the last lines in wlproxy log:
    Fri Feb 26 14:08:59 2010 <71212672221392> INFO: SSL is configured
    Fri Feb 26 14:08:59 2010 <71212672221392> SSL Main Context not set. Calling InitSSL
    Fri Feb 26 14:08:59 2010 <71212672221331> INFO: Initializing SSL library
    I've found that the problem is caused by using a 4096 bit intermediate cert. When I include this 4096 bit cert in the file referenced by plugin parameter "TrustedCAFile", it is unable to load it. I've tested 4096 bit certs from a few different certificate authorities, and consistently see this problem, so I know the problem is not related to the specific certificate. If I use a 2048 bit intermediate certificate, everything works perfectly fine.
    Do you know if there are limitations to the certificate length that the plug-in can use?

    Yes 4096 bit Certificates are not supported by the plugin.
    You can use up to 2048 bit.
    There is a Bug which clearly mentions it.
    I dont remember the Bug Number, but an Oracle Support person will be able to tell you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cant use log4j or commons logging with ease in OC4J/OAS 10g

    Hi,
    I have a simple JEE 5 app which just uses Log4J for logging. I have a log4j.properties at the right place. But deploying an EAR with this config fails
    Operation failed with error: Lorg/apache/log4j/Logger;
    or if i move to commons logging this...
    Operation failed with error: Lorg/apache/commons/logging/Log;
    Things as simple as using logging, I feel, shouldnt be any complex than what is inferred. Atleast there should more error detailing to it than a bozo message like the above.
    Anyone used logging in just a ejb jar app???

    We've run into this recently and were surprised to find out that Oracle not only "recommends" OAS over OC4J in a production environment, they require it. If you look at the license agreement that you accepted when you downloaded OC4J (you know, the thing that you never read) you'll find that Oracle expressly says that you are not allowed to use OC4J in anything other than a development environment.
    So, after years of using it for several applications, we now have to switch to OAS. Actually, we are doing this not only to stay legal, but also to take advantage of mod_oc4j for reverse proxy. We could not get this to work under OC4J so we started poking around with OAS and then found out that we were not licensed for either in production.
    If you are using OC4J in production, read the not-so-fine print. You are in violation of their license agreement.

  • Use of anti-virus products with WebLogic

    A customer's Weblogic architecture consists of the following in order:
    Internet - Firewall - Netscape HTTP server - Firewall - WebLogic server
    The customer wants to provide anti-virus protection for documents/data uploaded
    into this environment by external parties over the internet (the applications
    being developed support upload of documents such as MS Word).
    We are investigating use of firewall integrated anti-virus products. Using such
    a product at the first firewall is ok, but does not help if the application uses
    SSL as the firewall will not be able to decrypt the SSL traffic.
    Are there any issues with using an anti-virus product at the second firewall,
    ie between Netscape and WebLogic? If a virus is detected at the second firewall,
    the anti-virus product will block the request from getting to WebLogic and return
    an HTTP response to Netscape saying the transaction has been blocked. Does this
    pose any application issues?

    Hi,
    Have you installed the Symantec NAC Posture Plugin (Symantec Client Security Posture Plug-in
    ) ? You can find this MSI installer on the Symantec CD. This plugin provides an interface to CTA for checking the status of Symantec AV and its parameters as CTA has no way for directly getting this status from the Symantec Application.
    In most cases the Symantec AV attributes are already pre-loaded on the ACS. You can verify this by making sure that you see the System Token named "Symantec:AV".
    After completing the above steps then define a posture validation rule using
    1. Symantec:AV:Protection-Enabled (Healthy for a value of "1" and Quarantine\etc else.)
    2. Symantec:AV:Dat-Version (You will have to manually specify the minimum acceptable version (E.g. 2007.05.1... ) to declare a System Healthy).
    You probably will have to keep updating the 2 above to keep the minimum version in line with the latest available. A workaround to this is to use another 3rd party AV which relies on an external AV server to get this version dynamically (E.g. Trend Micro). In this case ACS doesn't make the decision but forwards the credentials to the external AV. Symantec support for NAC is very limited and i don't see that improving considering they have their own NAC solution to market.
    Thanks,

    The following links can be used to refer to login configuration

    Regards,
    Neetika

    I am not sure what you mean by 'plug-in', but it sounds to me like you want to run weblogic with 1.4.
    And that probably isn't a good idea in a production system. 1.4 is still beta and there are suggestions that it still includes debugging code. And if bea hasn't certified it then you loose all support from them when running under that. This will all lead to extra time spent figuring out if the problem is in your code, in weblogic or in 1.4.

    I guess SQL syntax for cloudscape may not be same as Oracle. Pls check
    cloudscape manuals.
    Also you are talking about rollbacks. Could you be more specific.?
    Pls post full stack trace here.

    I see there is a setting within Weblogic Admin console to see the

    explicitly call stmt.setFetchSize(100)!!!

    Agreed. The transaction must start before the connection. This is what
    is most likely causing the error.

    Hi,
    one more thing: The UserTransaction has to be started before you obtain
    the connection, not after.

  • Can I use IBM jre v1.3 with weblogic5.1.0 on win2000?

    I tried to simply change the JAVA_HOME to the IBM jre folder, but it

    What do I need to do or is it possible to use IBM jre v1.3 with

    I'm pretty sure that it is not certified. We do not know what will happen.
    I suggest using one of the platforms that we have certified.
    The platform support page for WebLogic Server is located at:

    This page has the latest and greatest information on the platforms that

  • How is ATG-Data utilized with weblogic compared to Jboss?

    Greetings,
    I have expertise with ATG on Jboss and am new to WebLogic. So far so good but I have a few questions that I have not been able to answer on my own.
    How does WebLogic handle ATG-Data? I have set the server start options within config.xml for each instance - the java options for module list, server name, atg data directory location and memory requirements as I normally do with the run.conf for jboss. However, nothing gets populated in the ATG-Data directory when starting up the servers. On set runassembler with standalone and liveconfig on as well. (understanding that i can use pack and standalone together with weblogic).
    Any ideas what I could be missing?
    Thanks!

    OK I got ATG-Data directory working as I was expecting. Seems CIM was my hindrance. I scrapped the managed servers that CIM created for me and recreated them from admin console and then redeployed the -standalone ears using nostage deployment plan.
    With this I now get ATG-Data directory where I wanted it: /opt/Oracle/ATG-Data/servers/store-a/localconfig (last entry for config layer in the store-a.out log)
    This ATG-Data directory is configured in the domains config.xml for server-start arguments under the managed server group.
    -Xms1280m -Xmx1280m -Xmn256m -XX:PermSize=512m -Datg.dynamo.data-dir=/opt/Oracle/ATG-Data -Datg.dynamo.server.name=store-a
    This is progress!
    However, the module list shows all modules that were applied during runassembler for that atg server in the log - I am unable to override the module startup list with -Datg.dynamo.modules= within server start arguments.
    The reason I want to override the list is because I prefer to use the same ATGProduction ear for lock manager and procedit servers without requirement them to load all the modules that were assembled in the ear.
    I appreciate any tips or suggestions for best practices!
    Thanks!

  • Problem in Using Log4J with Weblogic 9.2

    I am using Weblogic 9.2 and Log4j.
    By using Admin console I set the Severity Level to WARNING and inside my java code is given below:
    Logger logger = Log4jLoggingHelper.getLog4jServerLogger();
    if (logger.isEnabledFor(Priority.DEBUG)){
    logger.debug("DEBUG - Test Debug message");
    logger.info("DEBUG - Test Info Message");
    logger.warn("DEBUG - Test Warning Message");
    logger.error("DEBUG - Test Error Message");
    logger.fatal("DEBUG - Test Fatal Message");
    Somehow the logger.isEnabledFor(Priority.DEBUG) returning 'TRUE' and the follwoing message is displayed.
    <Nov 29, 2006 2:44:04 PM EST> <Warning> org.apache.log4j.Category> <000000> <DEBUG - Test Warning Message>
    <Nov 29, 2006 2:44:04 PM EST> <Error> <org.apache.log4j.Category> <000000> <DEBUG - Test Error Message>
    <Nov 29, 2006 2:44:04 PM EST> <Info> <org.apache.log4j.Category> <000000> <DEBUG - Test Fatal Message>
    <b><i>NOTE - The logger.debug() and logger.info() methods are not invoked because of the severity level to 'WARNING' in the console.</i></b>
    <b>I would like to know why the Somehow the logger.isEnabledFor(Priority.DEBUG) is having a value of 'TRUE'.</b>
    I expected only the Somehow the logger.isEnabledFor(Priority.ERROR) will have the value of 'TRUE'.

    Did you get an answer to your question? I have the same problem with WebLogic 10.0.

  • Log4J with Weblogic Server 10

    Hi,
    We are migrating an EJB application from Weblogic 8.1 to Weblogic 10.0
    In the current configuration, we simply include the following in the server startup script, so as to specify the log4j configuration file, and this takes care of the logging part.
    -Dlog4j.configuration=file:<complete file name>
    The same thing doesn't work with WL 10. Is there any other (special) way of using Log4j with WL 10?
    Note that inside the code, we use commons-logging to get hold of the logger as follows:-
    org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory.getLog(class)
    I would be grateful for any help on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Neelesh
