Using multiple attractor objects

Hi,
I thought I had this cracked, but alas no.
Ignore the graphics, I'm trying to get the physics working first.

This shows some varying sized particles in air going through an air filtration unit. In this instance I'm trying to arrest the largest (green) particles with the filter.
I've taken the front off the filter so that you can see the row of "catchers" I have placed inside. Currently one of these (the one that passes nearest the top particle) has an attractor behaviour, which is why the particle gets caught in the filter.
However, if I give this behaviour to all of the catchers then both particles fly off the screen before the filter gets anywhere near them, as though the attractors are all working in unison, but repelling rather than attracting.
The motion file is at http://www.electricsauce.net/particle_filter1b.motn so you can re-check the attractors and see the results.
I know I could manually keyframe these particles, but the smallest ones will eventually need catching and that's a 200 unit replicator so I really don't want to do that.
Am I missing something with the attractors, or is there a better way of doing this?

Reducing the drag helped immensely. I'm guessing that you are right, they must be additive and applied to all objects in the affected list whether within influence range or not.
Hence each object had such a high drag on it from the multiple attractors that it was slowed down to the point of accelerating off in the opposite direction.
At least, that's my theory! Very strange behaviour and perhaps something that should be addressed (as I can't imagine any situation where you would require drag to act to that extent - seems like more of a bug than a feature)
I then reduced the number of attractors and tweaked the settings until I 'caught' all the particles.

Oh, I did think of another way of achieving a similar effect.
If I blocked the end of the filter so that you couldn't see inside it then I could have just had a mask sweep across hiding the particles that had got to the filter... Hmmm... I like this way better though.
I also noticed that the random movement doesn't seem to work when the replicator item is the subject of an attractor, which is odd.

Problem with using multiple Entity Objects in a view Object.

I have create 3 Business components for 3 of my database tables and now
I must add 3 tables in a View object so i used Jdeveloper Wizard to create the View Object.
-I Add Entity Objects which are business components to this view (In Step 2 of the Create Vview Object wizard).
-In step 3 that I add Attributes all my attributes are marked as Transient
Can some one explain why it happens?
I need one of those tables to be updateable and two other tables are not updateable.
What should should i do to achieve this?
I should say that tables does not have any database relation (Foreign Key I Mean).

When you created your VO, on selecting the second EO, you'll note at the bottom of the same page on the wizard/editor, checkboxes for updatable or by reference. By default reference is checked and this will make your second EO's attributes transient.
In the JDeveloper Developer's Guide for 4GL/Forms programmers, the following sections outline the difference between updatable or by reference:
7.5 Including Reference Entities in Join View Objects
27.9 Creating a View Object with Multiple Updatable Entities
Make sure to read 27.9 if updatable is what you want as it indicates you may need to add some additional code.

Using multiple UIWebView objects with a Tab Bar Controller.

So, I'm pretty new to this cocoa touch language and seem to be hitting a road block.
I have an application that will use a Tab Bar Controller as a navigation. Each tab will display a different UIWebView object that's been linked to their own URL's. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get past the first UIWebView. If they're all the same object, with the same name, how can I set a different url for each??
I've been going nuts over this for the past few hours and can't find any documentation online so any help would be AMAZING. Thank you very much.

They're not the same object. You alloc and setup each UIWebView independently.
UIWebView is just a view so set it up the same way you would if you had a tabbar with multiple views.
The default template has 2 views as I recall. Change the UIViews to UIWebView. As you switch them in set the URL and have it load.

ASDM multiple network objects vs group for rules

I was just curious if there are any performance benefits of using multiple network objects on multiple rules vs consolidating them into fewer rules by grouping them?
For example, I have about 10 lines of NAT exempt rules from the same source to multiple destinations. Is there anything to be gained if I consolidated those into a single rule using an object group for the multiple destinations aside from cleaning up the clutter in ASDM?

Hello Tony,
Of course, it will be better because the processing that the ASA is going to use to determine witch rule to match would be decremented, also it would take less space on the configuration file (memory). those are some of the pros regarding creating groups for particular rules.
Sometimes a huge configuration file can increment the CPU usage,etc,etc. so it is better to keep it as small and organized as possible.

Multiple Consumer object per Streaming Connection in AIR

We are trying to minimize the active connections to the server.
My query is "If we are using multiple Consumer object instances with same channel and destination, will we have a single connection to the server shared by all Consumer instances or we'll be having different connection for each Consumer instance".

Excellent answer. It dovetails with the approach I've started to take here. I'm using something called NetConnectionClient to catch server calls. Does your NCMgr class extend NetConnection or EventDispatcher?
Mine extends EventDispatcher and has a method like the following. Just stuffs the message from the server into an object first before dispatching an event containing it:

All cool there. This works up to this point.
I'm hazy after that though. Who should listen for and handle the event? I'd like my chat component to listen for and handle it directly, like in your scenario. But my chat component is in a separate mxml file imported into the main app file. I'm hazy on how to have it grab what it needs.
I currently have the "application" listening for and handling the event. The handler method just relays the call by calling a method on the chat component instance, like this:
chat.receiveMessage(tempObj); //tempObj contains the message
I think that's too many relays of the same call, from the NetConnectionClient class, to the main application file, down to the custom chat component. I'd like to cut out a leg of that trip.
Should I have the chat component instance itself be listening, like this?

Is that a proper relay of the dispatched event to the target component. The syntax doesn't seem proper to me. I feel like something's wrong with the design of the last leg of the relay here.

You can create main condition as "any" and later add two sub-conditions - one that object in set "All People" and other sub-condition that object in set "All Contacts" or "All Groups".

Insert data into multiple entities at once using a view object

Hi,
I'm trying to insert data into multiple entities at once using a view object, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. The two entities have a 1:1 association. I created a view object which contains both entities and I made sure they aren't read-only. But like I said it doesn't work, I can't insert data in both entities at once... :(
Is this possible? And how (if it is)?

This is definitely supported and tested. Please send us the exception stack trace. You must running into other problems. A few things to note:
A) You have to mark the entities as both updateable (not read-only) and not reference-only.
B) If you're not seeing an exception stack, turn on diagnostic. Here is how:
To turn on diagnostic, go to the IDE,
1. Select the project.
2. Do right mouse click and select "Project Settings..."
3. On the Settings dialog, select Configurations/Runner.
4. In the righthand side pane, you should see a textbox for "Java
Options". Please add the following JVM switch:
-Djbo.debugoutput=console
Then, rerun. The run command should include
-Djbo.debugoutput=console as in
"D:\JDev9i\jdk\bin\javaw.exe" -Djbo.debugoutput=console -classpath ...
You should now see a lot more output on the IDE's message window. Here you should see the exception stack trace.
If you invoking your app directly from command prompt, just add "-Djbo.debugoutput=console" after your "java.exe".

Add multiple people using Javascript Client Object Model

I am trying to add multiple people to a SP column of type Person/Group i.e. people picker. I am able
to add one successfully using their userId, but HAVE no clue how to do that for multiple people. Here is the code for one user:

How can i execute multiple database operations using multiple objects

i have data in files which i need to read/parse and insert/update the database. can someone tell me how can i read multiple statements at a time and process using multiple objects.

This doesn't seem like too much of a JDBC question or at least the answer as I see it isn't unique or specific to JDBC.
If you want to run multiple processes within your single program then you need to use Java threads. I would recommend you read up on how to properly code Java threads and if you have questions unique to your multi-threaded JDBC implementation come back and ask those questions.
You may also want tot take advantage of a transaction manager that includes a database connection pool that will handle most of the complexity for you. Depending on the flexibility of your architecture you may not have to do any thread coding at all when using a transaction manager.

As I said, the 10-fc12-045d error would not be due to the drive's being AFT, but more likely the discs are not being read properly. New discs can be obtained from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here

Having audio object use multiple outs

is it possible to have my autoload setup to where my audio tracks and instrument tracks use multiple outs?
example.
setup audio track 1 to use out 1-2 and out 2-3.

i have my mackie hr824's on out 1-2, but i have another set of monitors that i would like to use for an a/b setup. i don't have the money to purchase a mackie big knob, or a presonus device. per other discussions i have my env setup with a layer to control the outputs of my RME. what i would like to do is to connect the other monitors to outs 3-4. keep them muted until i need to use them. i just need to know i you can setup audio objects to use multiple outs.

what do you have you PDC set to in the preferences?
I use all three settings, at times. I'll turn PDC off if I need to use software monitoring with high-latency plug-ins on other tracks, but really, the best solution is not to track with too many plug-ins on anything. PDC is designed for playback/mixing, not tracking, and in 7.2.3, I've found it works well (although not exactly the way I'd like it to). For tracking with plug-ins, you'd likely want different behavior, to compensate for the fact that you're playing along with tracks that are already delayed due to plug-in latency--it's different from playback.
At any rate, my best advice at this point (with any DAW, as far as I know) is that you shouldn't track with high-latency plug-ins on any tracks or busses that are time/rhythm references, regardless of PDC settings. For mixing, the "All" PDC setting should be fine.
And the PDC setting doesn't affect the mix bus routing at all (no latency at any setting), unless you have plug-ins on that mix bus when tracking, which again, isn't a good idea re: performance timing.

Using multiple instance variables or BPM objects in a single JSP

In my screenflow, for an user activity, I've selected a BPM object variable for my JSP and using this BPM object variable within the JSP to display or accept values related to this BPM object.
But in certain circumstances, I need access to some of the instance variables defined in my screenflow (which are not members of the BPM object), and to get these variable values displayed in my JSP. I don't want to overload my BPM object with all these instances as they do not logically fit as members in this BPM object.
For example, if I need to capture and display the logged in user name across the JSPs in my web application, then how can I do that without specifying this user variable in all of my BPM objects.
Is there any extensibility in using more than one BPM object variables in my JSPs? Why is it that a single BPM object variable is tied to a JSP? Or am I missing something else here?

BC4J Objects with PKs based on two columns using multiple sequences

I have implemented a BC4J object that is based on a DB table that has two columns as the primary key. For example Table A's primary key is Group and ID and there is a DB sequence for each Group.
I use the BC4J object using servlets and JSPs and I have been able to implement an Update form.
I now want to implement a Create (New) form. I've read forum postings and info on the help regarding using the SequenceImpl class to override the EntityImpl object's create method as shown below:

But as you can see I need to know the value of the group attribute before I can get the next value sequence:

I would like to put this code in the Entity Object where it belongs. I guess my problem is simply how to create a new row in the View Object with a passed parameter which is the value of Group.

How is the EO suppose to receive the group id? Is it from the view row? If so, the VO can pass that group id to the EO through the attribute list and calling the
public Row createAndInitRow(AttributeList nvp);
API.
Example code would be:

// GroupID is the attr name of the Group ID
nvp.setAttribute("GroupID", <some-value>);
Row row = myVO.createAndInitRow(nvp);
If you do that the create(AttributeList attributeList) method of the EO will receive the GroupID value coming from the VO.
Then, you can use that for your sequence.

New technique to place multiple anchored objects in InDesign story

Hello,
For a while I have been trying to figure out how to insert multiple anchored objects into an Indesign story. As far as I can tell, you cannot copy multiple objects that have already been placed in a document (such as a multi-page pdf) into an InDesign story, but must copy and paste them one-by-one into the story. This is a problem for a project I am working on where I want to have a large number of 340x52 pt pdfs to flow throughout a document in a master text frame interspersed with text.
I have now found a solution for this issue that I thought I would share in case it would be helpful for anyone. It utilizes Automator actions for Mac OS X and Microsoft Word 2011 [2008 may work also, but I don't have a copy of that to test]; I am not good with scripting but perhaps similar solutions could be found for other systems and programs.
1. If you want to place a multipage pdf within a text frame, first it into individual files for each page (with Acrobat Pro or pdftk or something similiar).
2. Create an Automator service or program with the action "Create New Word Document". You can also use another automator action to save the document, or save it manually (to change the filename). In the finder, select the items you want, then run the service or drag them into the Automator program you have created.
3. Place the word document into your InDesign story. Your items will now be anchored objects ordered in your text frame as they were in the finder.
Please let me know if this is helpful or if anyone has suggestions for doing this process is a more efficient way. I am not sure, but it may be the case that this approach would only work on Macs, as I gather from this thread.

I might note that I am using InDesign CS 5, and importing from a document stored in docx format.

Using multiple timer in the same SessionBean

Is it possible to use multiple timer in the same Stateless Session Bean. In my application a user can schedule some task to execute. To do so I was thinking of creating a Session Bean which would create calendar timer on user request and, when one of the timer expires, retrieve the task to execute thanks to the information stored in the timer.
When I tried the solution explained above, it seems that the @timeout method is synchronized on 1 timer. For example if I create a timer that will be executed every 10 seconds and another one executed every 30 seconds, the timeout callback is called every 30 seconds but 4 times.
My code looks like that :

This doesn't make any sense to me. If i were to write a bunch of schemas for a particular applicaion, would
I have them all in the same namespace? You would normally have one schema that describes the information model associated with the one namespace that the different documents in your application use.
If so, why can't I load more than one in the same name space?The parser chooses the schema based on the namespace alone. There is no other information used to decide which schema to use, so you can only have one schema for the namespace.
They all have different root elements.You can have different root elements in the one schema.
I don't even need the namespaces, but I can't
figure out how to get rid of them (the schema isn't valid with out them according to XML Spy). You can set the schema explicitily before parsing, but not (AFAIK) set after parsing has begun, except by using the mapping of namespace to schema location.
I have also tried to use the external-noNameSpaceSchemaLocationproperty, but it doesn't seem like you can pass in an array of schemas to that one. It only expects a
String as the Object you pass in to setProperty. Yes, you can only validate a document against the one schema.
So, how can I load all my schemas so I don't have to reference them in the XML documents? Either combine your schemas so you have one schema for your namespace that validates elements which are defined in that namespace (the formal/correct way of doing it), or construct a filter that inserts a PI to point to the schema once the root element is opened (the pragmatic/bit of a hack way of doing it).
