Using realtime metrics in plugin pages

I'm using realtime refresh interval for a plugin page and it works great.
The problem I have is that if target is down, the components using realtime metrics produce an error in the pop-up dialog due to realtime collection error (like connection refused on the port). The metrics are normally not collected in the normal schedule if target status is evaluated as down but charts for the plugin UI page seem to ignore that. What's even more annoying is that every component on the page generates its own error dialog and keep doing that with the defined collection interval.
Perhaps, there is some special conditions I need to add in MPCUI or in the query descriptors of the target type metadata?
I'm using metadata based UI.

This is a limitation of the current meta-data only implementation. Errors that occur when retrieving data for components are delivered to the component itself to handle and there is not currently and special handling for cases where the target or agent is down. In a Flex-based implementation it is possible to handle these errors in your controller for cases where you specify the data provider for the component in the results handler, or in cases where a component (like a chart) specifies a metric name/columns by implementing a handleUnexpectedError method in the controller associated with the page or dialog where the component is included.
